Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Honestly aside from the $25 promo flipping these isn't as great as it requires you to get 6 games per batch to be worth it. The $25 bonus for certain games is 100% awesome though.
yes, the candy bundles are one of our top priorities that get tracked along with direct access and game presales.
And people wonder why Blockbuster is a failing business... ;)
Has anyone tried flipping any of these sale games to the Best Buy $20/$30 trade in spring special they have going on right now? There are a bunch that can be traded in there, plus a bunch that trade in for the $25 off $29.99 and higher GS thing.

Only reason I'd buy anything from the BOGO sale is to flip it to GS to make Assassin's Creed 2 $5 or to flip to BB to get enough credit to get a copy of LBP GOTY once they finally frickin' drop the price to $30 like everyone else.
While I'm not going all-out and getting 10 games that will net me an extra $25 credit or anything, I did pick up 2 copies of one game that all by themselves will get me $25 more than what I paid by trading them to BB. Since it seems the BB trade-in is only online like Amazon, hard to say how successful it is yet.

As to AC2, has anyone actually been able to get the 29.99 price using that trade-in deal? Last I heard it didn't qualify due to being on sale already.
Picked up a few good titles at my BBV today:

Overlord 360 (complete) - $9.99
Lair (complete) - Free
Tomb Raider Anniversary 360 (complete) - $6.99
Enchanted Arms 360 - Free

I am *still* trying to find Folklore. My BBV didn't have it. Anyone that did willing to trade? There were a lot of good titles at my BBV that I could pick up for you as a trade if you couldn't find what you were looking for.

Thanks!
I checked 10 BBV the last time they had this sale and no dice. I finally got it in a trade from a member here. It seems like it is hard to find in some places.

So..let me get this straight. The games that are on the list on the first page, I can buy one..Say Fear 2 for 9.99 on PS3 and get another game on the list for free?

I only go after the higher TIV games if they're available and I wouldn't waste my time and energy going for the tiered bullshit, since some of these BBV games would probably get refurb fees from even the nicest GS employee, thus lessening my profit on each. Gamestop's promos are only good if you know how to exploit them and have good enough games TO exploit them.

Of course, that Best Buy trade-in promo has me intrigued too, cuz I have two copies of Hot Shots Golf: Out Of Bounds for PS3 that I could trade in and get $20 TIV on each.:D

Checked another store today with no luck, but it looks like they are starting to advertise in store about the sale. The first store where I got some good games in the beginning looked like there were going to be restocking with more games soon, so be on the lookout.

One of the best deals EVER. My backlog just threw up it's so full.

All 6.99 games were POG games.

This was 3 Blockbusters in Denver, CO. Still good games out there!

AC2 would require you getting a very lenient employee or manager who would allow an on the spot return on something else that goes for $30 new now like Little Big Planet GOTY or Killzone 2.

However, that would definitely look a little fishy if the employee did an on the spot return of a game you just bought. So unless you have 2 Gamestops within close distance of each other or really cool employees at one to allow the above, you might be SOL.

what $25 promo?

Couldn't you just request a gift receipt with the purchase of one of the valid games (LBP:GOTY, KZ2, etc.) and then return/exchange the game within the next 30 days (with the new game sealed)? That's what I'm planning on doing and getting a copy of AC2 in exchange.

Yes, and keep in mind I have by no means updated all the prices in that list so, if anything, many of the games are even cheaper than listed. Many of the $14.99 games will be $9.99 and many of the $9.99 games will be $6.99.

Of course, just to be clear, these are used games and for the most part ex-rentals, so condition and completeness will vary. The good thing about PS3 games is that they can withstand quite a beating so if that's what you are after chances are you can get them in pretty good shape.

You could, but some(me) would be doing the $25 off promo at Gamestop to get Assassin's Creed to flip to Best Buy for $30 in credit there, which is why I would try to find the cheapest game on the qualifying list at Gamestop with the BOGO at Blockbuster so the max I'm paying for it is $7.50 as part of a pair of $14.99 games.:D

Btw, I highly recommend calling a store and seeing if they have a copy of a title in stock. A store by me was able to check and see what store had a copy of a game I was looking for without a problem.

My Blockbuster (only went to one so far) didn't have many good titles for the sale. I mainly went to see if I could get a cheap copy of The Incredible Hulk. Surprisingly, I did.

I got:

Incredible Hulk (complete, 360) - $6.99
Lego Indiana Jones - (complete, Free)

I wanted both games, and $7 for both is awesome. I am pleased.

Dont have an xbox 360 but managed to pick up

Fallout 6.99
Resident evil 5 6.99
Ninja Gaiden 6.99
Dirt 4.99
Total 18+ which includes high ca tax
For the ps3 just
Brutal legend 9.99
Stars Wars 9.99

I wonder if the rumors of slim 360 are true if not ill just wait till holidays to buy one
Ah, I see what you mean :D Forgot about the Best Buy trade value, but I plan on actually getting AC2 to play. I am thinking of trading in my other copy of Mario & Sonic to Best Buy for the $20 value in addition to some other PS2 games which get a surprising TIV there compared to GS and other places.

You could just trade-in your BB games for LBP:GOTY at GS so you don't have to worry about the return/exchange issue. It also nets $30 at Best Buy.

I ended up giving one of my Hot Shots PS3 as a gift and the other I'm trading to Amazon for $19.25, the $20 at Best Buy is nice, but Amazon has a better selection of merchandise.

Wow so I got another round of Best Buys and had to swing by the one I went to yesterday and already got the good stuff (anything Mario, Beautiful Katamari, etc)

So I get a $14.99 Lost Odyessy and $14.99 Kingdom Hearts then a $9.99 Drawn to Life and a Final Fantasy DS game (Echoes I believe) just to trade into EB to get the 40% bonus and the guy at the register instisted that he had to do a $14.99 and a $9.99. I could understand but argued against it (I mean he wants best for his failing company) and he told me it was the same price ($35) that it should be...which didn't make sense (again BBV employees...really nice guy but as I told him it was simple math...$10 + $15 = $25+tx not $35). He got frustrated and I just gave him the ol' thumbs up and went back later when I figured someone else was going to be there since its next to the GS I was going to go to, so grabbed dinner and went back when someone else was there. He still looked bitter...

If it wasn't for the fact that I got 6 complete games and $100 in GS credit (More to come when I return the GH games) I would be really frustrated..but I thought I would share.

Ok, could someone explain to me in detail how the gamestop $25 off deally works ??? I've looked at the site and it seems mind numbingly confusing to me (I don't know if it's just me or what).

lol gamestop asked me if all my trade ins were stolen, i said no way! lol
yeah 25 off ac2 doesnt work, i tried it and they said it didnt combine with gamedays sale items.
should be b1g1 for 15 and under
At one blockbuster, I was told that the B1G1 was only on games 9.99 and under. Is this true?
no, it's $14.99 and under

Hit a Blockbuster tonight - did ok - got Beatles Rock Band for $19.99 then

My son got Spongebob Globs of Doom and a Spyro DS game for $10 total

I picked up Viva Pinata 2 and Mario vs Sonic Olympics for $10 total
Btw, I highly recommend calling a store and seeing if they have a copy of a title in stock. A store by me was able to check and see what store had a copy of a game I was looking for without a problem.
Oh they can check other stores in the area? I called for a couple games and the lady was more than happy to hold them for me.

I'll call back and have them check the other stores.

Mind numbingly confusing? You're serious?

How hard is it to understand? Take one of the games from on that list on Gamestop.com(some of which can be bought with this B1G1 sale) into Gamestop, bring up a $29.99 or higher game saying you want to buy it. Pay the difference that's left after the $25 discount and you're out the door in like 5-10 minutes.
so which are the ones people are flipping at gamestop for the 25 off credit?
http://www.gamestop.com/gs/specialty/tradeins/save25/

Judging from the list, it's safe to say most of the Mario games are being traded for.

I was wishing for a copy of Layton, and sure enough I found one!
Professor Layton and the Curious village
Final fantasy XII (12, not 13)
Both were mint, 7 bucks. Great deal!

BTW, does somebody know if I should pick up Kingdom Hearts DS? Dunno if it's my cup of tea, since I like turn-based more than action -RPGs...

:bomb: You're supposed to let the newbie figure this shit out for themselves. Now that you spoon fed them the info, they'll just ask(and ask and ask and ask till someone answers out of frustration)instead of researching how to get in on a deal anymore.

OMG my BBV had some many goodies(Soul calibur PSP, dissidia, KH 358/2) but i had NO CHANGE ON ME. UGHUGHUHGUHG

Hmm...I got like 30 something in GS credit. Should i try to buy something, return it for cash, and then buy all the stuff i want?

I found nothing good at the two closest BBVs today. I was told by a local CAG that when he was in at the one earlier El Hoardo! was in there with his kids loading all of their arms with the good stuff. :(

Picked up PS3 QoS and Tiger Woods 2009 tonight for the BOGO sale. Not much of a selection unless you have a 360, which I rarely play anymore. Scouring the area tomorrow for more deals. My closest Blockbuster had a huge sign up inside.

Doesn't matter. Pick it up anyway. It trades in for more than it costs at BBV right now. That's not even considering B1G1. Get a second game to trade in with it and you'll trigger the extra 10% for two promotion, bumping it up even more. Zero risk to you.

So very true. Seems like it's all the newbies who just signed up this month asking too. Oh well I guess...

Yea, I went to 3 blockbusters and pick up only Dirt & Virtual Fighter 5 for Ps3. There were still whole bunch of 360 games..... I wish I had 360... T_T

Damn

I grabbed 4 9.99 and 2 14.99 at my store.
360: Gears of War, Red Faction Guerrilla
ps3: Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Folklore
psp: Crisis core, dissidia

My manager got confused pricing them, so he mixed up crisis core's 9.99 and dissidia's 14.99. RFG was my other 14.99, so that ended up getting paired with just a 9.99(CC) and we can't credit employee accounts so I lost 4 dollars. NOOOO, still only cost 33 for all 6 but the cheapass in me regrets paying more than I should have.

I wondered why dissidia was already 9.99 while CC was still 14, guess I should have checked their prices. Infact, I almost always do, even for just any customer to make sure there won't be any surprises. Stupid stupid stupid...

I should have gotten to my BBV sooner, but the selection wasn't terrible. Just way too many $19.99 games just out of reach of the deal.

I got..

Boom Blox BP $14.99
Dark Void (PS3) Free

Dark Void was miss marked at $9.99 so I got an even better deal than I though I was getting when I headed for the register.

They had a bunch of Dirt 2 games but they all rang up $29.99. That made me a sad panda.

Hey dude, if they had a wii one thats 14.99, go to the cashier and show them it. They MIGHT override it for you. I went in earlier today and asked the lady @ the cashier, and she scanned the wii one and said "Price is 14.99, the xbox 360 one is mismarked" LOL. I couldnt get it(i didnt have money on me, but will go back tomorrow and grab their goodies).

Seattle, WA - went to 3 stores on the Eastside that were very much picked over, less than 20 PS3 games total at all 3. Picked up Pure and Eat Lead for $10 just to come home with something.
I scored

No more heroes
Animal cross city folks.

I don't think I want them anymore, since I cant find the trade list for these BBV games, I'll do it right here I guess. I'll let them go for $19 shipped. Either that or I'll return it. Don't know why I bought these games..
you can't return them...

Preorder a game, then cancel it and your trade in values will bump up ;)

So Broke from Pax East.. Oh well, I got a few little games. Don't really need anything much right now anyway.
