Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Got transformers 2 for 15 and far cry 2 (both x360) free
Then a buddy and I went to another BBV and split one: He got tomb raider (ps3) and picked up ghost buster for 10 total. (Can't beat 5 dollar games). I've made out better than the game fly sale. My backlog is so deep. Wife hasn't noticed the growing game collection.

i had a great haul from this sale, got like 15 games, the highlighs of which were valkyria chronicles, beautiful katamari and civ rev, thanks CAG

Stopped in my local BBV today. Saw Zelda:Hourglass ($15), SF4 ($15), Kane and Lynch ($5), and some odd DS game for ($10). Took them all up to the counter, the guy told me I'd get the two cheapest games free.

I was like...Um...Do them separately then. He told me that he couldn't, and that I'd have to come back in tomorrow to buy them then and that he'd hold them for me.

What...The...fuck is wrong with Blockbuster?

I just bought the two 15s and left, fuck that shit-hole (I'm glad I screwed them out of so many games last year(and a couple Visa gift cards))
Nothing's wrong with blockbuster, that guy is either a moron or a douche.
I'd say both but that's just my two cents.

Today...was a GOOD day.

Went to 2 different BBV and picked up Rock Band 2 for (PS3) and Mario Super Sluggers (Wii) at each for 14.99 for a total of $30 + tax.

Traded in each of the Mario Sluggers at Gamestop for the $25 deal. Employee let me get Bayonetta (360) and Assassin's Creed 2 (360) from the gamedays sale. He had a flyer for the promotion in store. He manually bumped the tradein price of each to $25.00 and with edge it jumped to $27.50 each. Walked away with Bayonetta for 12.50 and Assassins Creed 2 for 2.50 + tax.

Then went home and signed into Amazon to trade in the two Rock Band 2s for 18.75 credit each.

So in total wound up with:

Bayonetta (360)
Assassin's Creed 2 (360)
$37.50 of Amazon credit

for a total of $45 + tax cash out of pocket !!
So Broke from Pax East.. Oh well, I got a few little games. Don't really need anything much right now anyway.
I wish I was you... all I've been doing is scoring some great cheap games. When I get home and I empty my bag of games on the floor, I look at them and wonder... why!
I'd say both but that's just my two cents.
Frankly I love Blockbuster. I've gotten plenty of great deals there the past couple of years. And many of the people who work there are friendly.

I realize this won't stop all the MBAs here from finding holes in BBV's business model, but I just wanted to stick up for a company that gives us B1G1 deals but then gets dumped on so frequently.
Hey dude, if they had a wii one thats 14.99, go to the cashier and show them it. They MIGHT override it for you. I went in earlier today and asked the lady @ the cashier, and she scanned the wii one and said "Price is 14.99, the xbox 360 one is mismarked" LOL. I couldnt get it(i didnt have money on me, but will go back tomorrow and grab their goodies).
I mentioned that to the employee but I think he misunderstood me. The Dirt 2 games were actually mismarked as well @ $34.99. I noticed alot of the same games with different prices.

So I when I took a Xbox 360 version of Dark Void marked at $24.99 I assumed it just hadn't been marked down. They were kind enough to give me the PS3 DV for $9.99 so I wasn't going to push my luck.

i think we are all feeling the burn after EA spoon fed us...oh well ima head out agian tomorrow...find some more mario games and flip them
;)

question anybody play eat lead:return of matt hazard on ps3?
I bought it along with lair
ended up exchanging Eat Lead b4 I played it for mario and sonic for a GS flipp

I was wondering if im missing out on something?

got lair...actually liek it even though it got a 5.0/10 on gamespot...
can't trust um always

I went to the Mira Mesa store today and it was..buy 2 get 2 free 14.99 or under. Only game I saw that was worth it was Revenge of the Fallen (PS3) but since I had to buy two games it wasn't worth it. Their higher priced used games weren't too bad though. Saw Avatar for 20 bucks, although it's 20 new at Target right now and a complete Spirit Tracks for 20 bucks as well.

Well I'm off Saturday so I'll try some other BBVs for better deals.
Hmmm which would be better, trade in rock band 2 for 19.75 at amazon or 20 at Best buy?
Is this a joke? Best Buy doesn't even try.
Hmmm which would be better, trade in rock band 2 for 19.75 at amazon or 20 at Best buy?
I've never traded at best buy. Can you trade games in-store? How does it work?
Found batman arkham asylum for ps3 at my BBV for $30 but couldn't find another game so walked out with nothing.
I'd say "read the title of the thread again" but I'd probably be wasting my time.
I'd say "read the title of the thread again" but I'd probably be wasting my time.
That's weird, there was a bin that said buy 1 get 1 free I guess there was fine print that it's not all games in the bin or someone put the game in the bin by mistake. I guess my reading comprehension is really bad: misread this title and probably misread the sign at BBV :)

Oops...forgot to post what I found earlier. Good thing I did search again but then again also not good. Either way I think I'm good and done with the BBV game hunting for the time being. Here's what I found earlier:

Mirror's Edge (PS3) Complete
No More Heroes (Wii) missing manual
Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3) complete
Beautiful Katamari (360) missing manual

So, I had some fun. Hit a few stores, and added the following to my collection:

360:
Afro Samurai
Bionic Commando
Blue Dragon
Brutal Legend
Gears of War 2
Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad
Overlord II
Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes
Terminator Salvation
Vampire Rain
Viva Pinata: Trouble In Paradise
Watchmen: The End is Night Parts I & II

NDS:
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
Overlord Minions
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time

PS3:
Ratchet & Clank: Future

PSP:
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Dissidia: Final Fantasy
God of War: Chains of Olympus
Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier
Loco Roco 2
Secret Agent Clank
Star Ocean: Second Story'

Wii:
Mushroom Men
New Play Control! Pikmin
Overlord Minions

Overall, I spent about $450, and I ended up with those 25 games, a couple other extras I put aside for friends, and about $300 in GS credit and $350 in Amazon credit. I found some nice DS games to flip to Amazon (anything Disney, really, is a $5-->$9-10 flip, but I'll follow along with the "do your own damn research" that's the new attitude of this thread) so most of the actual flipped games were either garbage or POGs (or Kingdom Hearts! $21 at GS with bonuses), but $3.50->$10 flips are delicious.

Meet my gaming/blu ray budget for the summer. =)

EDIT: One thing I learned from this sale -- Amazon now limits you to trading in 3 copies of a game per several-month timespan. So, no more ten copies of KotoR at a time, as fun as that was!
I've never traded at best buy. Can you trade games in-store? How does it work?
I've never either but I just got a trade in ready for BB and the prepaid label they supplied has the exact same address as Gazelle.com. I've had good experiences with them lately(gazelle), no problems.

got lucky and found a copy of Mario and sonic olympic games and supper slugger for WII, traded them into gamestop and got Assassins creed 2 and Oblivion for $10. So $20 total for both games :D, I can live with that

I've got an extra Cod 4, Cod WaW, RE5 and Fallout 3 from pog, anyone want to trade? Pm me. I'm looking for Infamous, Killzone 2, Resistance 2 or Uncharted 2.

I picked up Prototype and Dead Space today for $7 and change total, fucking awesome yo.

My friend grabbed UFC '09, Brutal Legend, Fallout 3 and HAWX for $23 or something, pretty damn good if I say so myself.

i gots a QUESTION???
ive read that franchise stores (I think) dont do the same promotions as corporate stores, such B1G1. does anyone know if this is the same for the DVD sales, such as 3 for 20$? if not, does anyone know how one can find out if as store is corporate or franchise, so i can save a trip to a store? the employees are morons, so they know nothing, yet i understand the computer does the B1G1 on its own, so i can easily save myself a trip based on my knowledge of their DVD promotions. thanks for any help.

I managed to stop by 3 BBVs after work. The selection at these BBVs wasn't that great. I didn't find any Mario games

This is what I did manage to pick up:

PSP Dissidia Final Fantasy $14.99
DS Pokemon Pearl $14.99---FREE

DS Kingdom Hearts 358/2 $14.99
PS3 Star Wars the Clone Wars Republic Heroes $9.99---FREE

All those games were complete so that was a big plus:)

Please help, what can I do?

I found a few PS3 POGs (in the clear cases, no artwork, no manual), but they are all ringing up like they were normal priced games (the ones with artwork and manual). I told the worker that they are POGs, but he said that the bar code sticker is not POG # and that they are the same price as the normal games. I believe it is mistake...and that a worker didn't put the POG bar code sticker and used the normal bar code sticker by accident. What can I do? Call the DM? Please advise. Thanks

Not all stores get POGs. Some stores legitimately have converted rentals that are missing the case and manuals and just entered into the system as the game as normal. You're probably seeing these "orphaned" converted rentals, and not actual POGs, which are resurfaced and ship from corporate.

Don't be an entitled customer and cause a big stink with the DM, that's retarded. Also, very rarely, you may end up with a clerk that actually knows how to do their job. It seems like this one did.

They had other POGs, but for cheaper games like
iconps3.gif
CoD W@W for $9.99 and some
iconxbox360.gif
Comdemned for $6.99 and some other cheap sports games.
I compared them and they all look like, there are no difference....they are all in clear cases locked in the plastic case. The only difference was that the cheaper games had the POG bar code.

Also, converted rentals are 99.9% displayed in their rental or original cases as far as I seen them (I might be wrong).

I'm not an entitled anything....I was just asking what I could do to see if the wrong barcode stickers were attached.

Also who would buy a
iconps3.gif
Madden 10 with no artwork and no manual for $34.99 when there was another complete
iconps3.gif
Madden 10 (orginal case, artwork, and manual for the same price? There was no disc inside the complete Madden.

How does one know if an employee accidentally added the wrong barcode sticker?

Ugh.

Prepack games come from distribution as prepack games. Games inserted, stickers already on. You can't "tell if the wrong barcode stickers are attached" unless you do a count on all ps3 prepacks and all ps3 copies of bayonetta and see if there's a difference, and you need the computer to do that which you don't have access to.

And why would you buy a madden with nothing over a madden with everything? No reason, unless you really don't give a F what it comes with. But when it gets down to the last copy in the store, if you want it, you have no choice. The store can't magically generate new books and covers if for whatever reason they're short, that happens commonly enough.

EDIT: One thing I learned from this sale -- Amazon now limits you to trading in 3 copies of a game per several-month timespan. So, no more ten copies of KotoR at a time, as fun as that was!
I'm not even sure if I should post this (io, delete this if you think it's inappropriate), but I was able to trade in 6 copies of a game because I used my amazon account to trade in 3 copies and my mom's amazon account to trade in 3 copies. It actually worked too even though i used the same address. The only downside is I have giftcards on 2 accounts now ($156 total for 6 LFD2's from gamestop.com ).

All of the games at my local blockbusters come in clear cases with front cover inserts and manuals. But the clear cases aren't the original cases right? so does that mean that Amazon won't accept them?
Example: I found rock band 2, metallica, and world at war which have trade in values of $20 each (w/ blockbuster clear cases, front cover insert, and manuals).

Also, I have a general question about trading in games. Besides making sure they work, are we supposed to delete save games and that's it? Or do you have to do anything more b4 trading at gamestop/amazon? Thanks.

....Wha...what? 1: Ask for real cases at the store is best, though I believe the actual case(not insert/manual/disc) is a pretty lax requirement for amazon trading, atleast it was when I last traded. 2: Game's save on hard drives or memory cards, it is literally impossible to write anything to a game disc after it's been pressed.

of course. why did i even say that? i'm such a moron.
At least remember to delete all the pr0n off your psp before u trade it into GS :p
Hell no don't do that. Barter with the GS guy that it improves the console's value. They should give you more!

Lax you say? Every experience I've had with Amazon and many I've read here on CAG suggest they are anything but lax. They expect complete games in original cases and no variations in UPC (even when they are legit - like two different cover versions of the same game). If I were you PublikDefender I'd simply ask for some real cases from the BBV you got the games at. Usually they have extras that they just trash anyway. Granted, I've never tried sending original art work/manual in a non-standard case. That may be not be a problem since they can probably just swap it out themselves. Interestingly enough, disc condition does not seem to be too important to them either (except in the case of very minor cracks - they look for those) but that's because NorAm (Amazon's partner for game trade-ins) has a resurfacing business on the side.

I couldn't help myself and went out again Thursday evening. I picked up some stuff I wasn't expecting. For one, I got PSP Jak & Daxter The Lost Frontier. Fortunately an awesome CAG (I forget who ;)) had posted it a few days ago so when I saw it I knew to have it checked. The problem was that it was tagged $24.99 with a BBV bar code dated 4/3/10 and the clerk assured me that was the price since she just repriced those herself a few days back. Still, I asked her to check and much to her surprise it came up $9.99! Maybe that one just had a huge drop since the 3rd of April? That seems odd, but I can't imagine it got confused with anything else (and the BBV bar code says it is for that game). Anyway, I got another one I don't think I've seen mentioned at all here and it is one I was glad to find. I can't say I was looking for it because I had no idea they even carried it, but I got Star Wars Battlefront Elite Squadron for PSP, also for $9.99 (and this one was tagged correctly). I was quite surprised how well stocked this store was nearly 3 days after the sale started. I got KH DS, Rock Band 2, Dissidia, Overlord II, and several other things and the store was overflowing with lots of flippables that I left (yeah, I took a few, though, no doubt ;)). I mean, it seemed utterly untouched up to that point. The only things it was missing were all the Mario games that everyone else seems to find in abundance. But I've now hit up 7 or 8 stores early on in this sale and have not seen a single Sluggers here and only 2 Mario & Sonic, 1 SSBB, and 1 Mario Galaxy. They just didn't exist around here even before this sale started.

That's what I said and only what I meant, lax about the case and only the case. Non-standard, sticky, partially cracked. I've read all of that, about the cases only.

Vortextk - Perhaps, but I still wouldn't risk it. It sucks to get stuff sent back and have it drop in value in the mean time. If it isn't too much trouble I'd get nice cases. And I do remember people getting games sent back because the cases were cracked.

On another topic: hey, I haven't seen this mentioned, but one store tonight had most of their toys and games (meaning board games and DVD games and such) on clearance. I picked up the Mario Kart slot racing set for $14.99, marked down from $39.99.

There's something wrong with that particular guy, not with BBV. He was being a jerk.

I brought up two $15 games and two $10 games yesterday, and I asked if we'd have to do two separate transactions. The guy just laughed and said, "No, I'll take care of it." And I got one of each pair free. That's how it should work.

Oh, and ditto on others explaining that not all clear packs are POGs. That's actually a pretty bad name for them, considering that ALL the used games are technically "previously owned" (either by the store or by individuals). One store by me got in nearly 500 games, disc-only, and almost none of them were considered POGs.

I have to disagree with you. The problem is BBV, not that guy. Well, OK, it's both. BBV's system is designed to screw the buyer. If they ring all 4 games up it will automatically make you pay for the two most expensive. That's bull. Gamestop, in contrast, has a system where it automatically gives you the best deal. So, yeah, the guy could ring them up in a way that would make it work, but the system is designed to screw you over, and I really doubt that they train the employees on how to properly ring them up.

EDIT: and further, they have the most bogus return policy I've ever heard of. If you return a game because it doesn't work, they will only let you exchange it for another equal value game. No refunds. Well, the guy told me that it depends on who rings you up. What? Are we still of the opinion that BBV isn't the problem here? And people complain about Gamestop. Gamestop lets you return a used game within 7 days for any reason and for a full refund, even if the reason is that you played the game to completion and are done with it.

On a completely different note, I've noticed that the used games at BBV are much better these days, in way more of them being complete, with good (even great) condition case and manual. At least at my local BBV.

Not being able to return a USED product for a refund is "bogus"? LOL. Reality check: GS's return policy is incredibly generous for used items. It isn't a standard. You have no right to request a refund for a used item at other businesses. If it's busted, you get it replaced. That's reasonable.

I mentioned this before. Lack of proper training and failing to upgrade systems to help out the customer is a sign that the company is going down. Failing companies just want to save money and not invest in an uncertain future. Thus helping the company go down even faster. It's a terrible spiral, but companies are too short-sighted to ever change.

That's because nobody goes there anymore to rent anything! That's why they're in such trouble financially... :-({|=

The 2 blockbusters I have near me, both of them will ring them up in price groups 14.99, 9.99, 6.99 and so on. Then promt the discount after ringing up the first 2.

Like the other day, the manager rung up 2 14.99 games first and discounted them (giving me one 14.99 free), then he rung up the 2 9.99 games I had together and discounted them (giving me one 9.99 free). This is all in the same transaction.
