Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Wow, I'm glad the Beatles RB drop didn't actually happen today as I was at 3 or 4 BBVs and would have missed it. They did a "restock" today at one store and it was about 5 games cobverted from rental. I got the 360 Metal Track pack for $9.99 which was probably too much to spend but I hadn't seen it before so I felt like I needed to buy it ;).

I also found a bunch of 360 prepacks at one store - I probably missed the good stuff but got some good trade-in fodder nonetheless.

I also took a Mario & Sonic to GS and got a sealed SMT Strange Journey for that + about $8 more in GS credit. That was a good deal, but I can't think of anything else to get there now.
I'm just joking around. If I found an Iphone right outside a BBV I'd probably give it back, especially with my luck - I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of those stupid hidden camera shows making me look like some asshole. If I found $100 in the parking lot I'd probably keep it unless I saw a person searching for it. Otherwise, like you said it would probably end up in the wrong hands.
I'm just a lil sick of the 'karma' thing being thrown around so much on here. But yeah, there's people who would be desperate for either, so just blurting it out wouldn't find the real owner.

And din88, I don't even own a cell phone, so I have no idea what an iPhone is worth. Personally, it wouldn't be worth more than $5 to me.

I also took Mario Sonic and got Endless Ocean Blue World w/ wii speak mic bundle for 29.99. Endless ocean game was in the drawer sealed. It sells for 25-29 new on ebay - game only no mic.

I'm on blockbuster's website, and it's letting me see stores that have certain games in stock. Can we really look up which ones have what then swoop down like vultures, or am I confused and it's telling me what's for rent?

anybody find prototype for ps3?

does it qualify for sale?

I think some1 reported getting it, but my local store quoted me at $19.99
boo hope drop happens soon

Looks like rental quantities to me, since they say "all copies checked out" on the list of results.

I checked a few noteworthy titles like Mario and Sonic at the Olympics and a couple games I bought my BBV out of, and it says they have them available. It has to be rentals.

quote is correct. both platforms are $19.99 and do not qualify

Wait, really? I could swear I saw a 360 version for $14.99 at my BBV.

^the only reason i remember this is someone asked me about it today. we didnt have any but i remember it being $19.99

Dude, it has been worth way more than that to me just this last week to be able to look up trade-in values while shopping at BBV ;).

So, I'm a bit confused on the Beatles Rock Band talk. Are we expecting the Wii and 360 versions to be $14.99 tomorrow but not the PS3 one? That kind of sucks because I already have a 360 one and would have liked a copy on the PS3. I also don't really remember seeing any Wii versions for sale used at any of the stores I've been to. I think I may have seen a few 360 copies though.
Dude, it has been worth way more than that to me just this last week to be able to look up trade-in values while shopping at BBV ;).
I rely on my memory and/or a hastily jotted down list of games on a piece of scrap paper. I'm just old school like that.

Though I guess I'd better cool it and stop trading to Gamestop for a while, since a few said on the $25 off $29.99 thread that they got banned for trading multiples and only found out once they went in to trade some stuff again.

Then again, I've never done multiples at one store, save for during this last Best Buy coupon glitch with the Nerf games. I got rid of three at one store, but it was after manager's approval and me showing them a receipt showing $.00 all the way down.

I think I'll test my closest GS store today with one of the games I got last week to make sure my account is still ok. Cuz even though I hate some of their practices, their promos are fun to exploit when you have cheap enough games to make 3-4x what you paid.
I rely on my memory and/or a hastily jotted down list of games on a piece of scrap paper. I'm just old school like that.
Yeah, but when you find that oddball Disney game that wasn't reported in the thread its nice to be able to look it up and see what it might get ;).

I'll have to look into this banning thing. Fortunately for me (I guess) I was out of town for the Nerf thing and missed out on it entirely. However, I probably will trade a few duplicates from this sale, though I'm really not trading that much to GS from it. But I will have 2 Mario & Sonic Olympics to trade, for example.

would love to pick up a copy of Beatles: Rock Band for 360, hope that holds true, still haven't gotten out to that part of town to check out what kind of stock my BBV has but definatly will soon if Beatles: RB is a new addition. thnx for the info!
BIG SCORE...went to my blockbuster and found and IPHONE 3GS 32GB right by the door outside. Took it to pawn shop and sold it for $475!!!! Profit=$475...
just kidding...I gave it to store clerk for when the poor person came back looking for it..no restock gaming-wise..sigh
You did the right thing my friend. They're easily traceable (down to the phone's current location). Unlike most cell phones, people live and die by their Iphones and have a lot of sensitive info on them. Any Pawn Shop would give you $400+ in a minute, because the phone (as well as the info on it) is easily worth a couple of thousand (especially to people who steal identities). Good job on not hesitating and bringing it in the store. Check CL Lost & Found to make sure the BBV employee actually gave it back to the customer once he realized he lost it. Would suck if you did the right thing and the employee didn't. :)

I have one at my BBV, but it is marked at $24.99.
Wait, wtf. I bought F.E.A.R. 2 from Blockbuster a couple of days ago for $6.99 and no one told me anything about how I could get another free; I saw something about a B1G1 off, but it was only one bin filled with a bunch of shitty DS and PS2 games.

I want to go back and complain, but I don't know if it will do any good; the Blockbuster I got it has always been terrible at customer service; fuck.
From my experience, stores in CT dont participate in this program because they are franchises. So you might not be so lucky.

I'm pretty sure all three versions of RB Beatles are $14.99. The $14.99/$19.99 talk was about Rock Band 2.
From my experience, stores in CT dont participate in this program because they are franchises. So you might not be so lucky.
that not true, it depends on what part of CT you are in. I did a raid in CT last year and found that near the hartford area was not franchises.

Well most of the Blockbusters around me have closed down but from what I was able to stop at this is my current haul from this sale.

Okami (Wii)
Smash Brothers (Wii)
Trauma Center: Second Opinion (Wii)
Red Faction (Ps3)
Far Cry 2 (Ps3)
Afro Samurai (Ps3)

All games are complete and mostly mint except Okami's booklet looks as though it may have been wet at one point.
Was hoping to get more PS3 titles but they seem to get snatched up as soon as these type of sales go live.

Glad I locked mine in, but for the rest of the unfortunate souls - Amazon dropped the TIV for RB Beatles to $15 for Wii and $12.50 for the 360. PS3 is still $9. I wonder what the current TIV's are at GS...the values here are a bit out of date.

If Beatles Rock Band is $14.99, then I need to go back and pick that up. Not sure what else I'll get with it. Is Lego Rock Band dropping too? If i could get both Beatles and Lego for the Wii for $14.99+tax total, I'd be pretty happy.
I rely on my memory and/or a hastily jotted down list of games on a piece of scrap paper. I'm just old school like that.
i'm REALLY oldschool, i use a hammer, chizel, and stone tablet to write my game lists on and i'm really, really in shape from carrying around stone tablets everywhere. And tomorrow i'm suppose to go into the mountains to make TWO stone tablets for a good friend of mine and then bring these to my peeps!

Beatles Rock Band is $20 a copy across all three platforms(PS3, 360, Wii) at the Best Buy Trade-in Center: http://www.bestbuytradein.com/bb/QuoteCalculatorVideoGames.cfm?kw=beatles+rock+band&pf=all

And at the Toys R' Us trade in site(www.toysrustradeincenter.com )it's coming up as $15 for Wii, $12.50 for 360 and $9.45 for PS3.

Toys R'Us trade in prices for B: RB: http://www.toysrustradeincenter.com/products.aspx?searchstring=beatles

The best part about TRU is you should be able to do the trade-ins IN-STORE.

You may not have traded many duplicates, but that's been my MO with both Gamestop and FYE for a long time now. Once I find a decent flip I can get cheap, I dump as many copies as I can.

During their $20 off any purchase promo that allowed you to take the $20 as $20 in credit instead, I traded in at least 3 copies of Uncharted(1 I had, 2 from those $60 Holiday bundles), at least 2 copies of Ratchet & Clank: Tools Of Destruction and multiple of multiple Hollywood Video $5 games(including 2-3 Midnight Club LA Complete) to get the aforementioned $60 bundles.

For a while I had like 4 'spare' Dual Shock 3's from flipping the games from those bundles, then I think I sold two of those off on the local shops for $20-25 each.

Plus the three duplicate Nerf bundles at one store the one time. So I'm a bit worried I've received the banhammer from Gamestop trading. It would only suck for me since they do serve their purpose when I find cheap enough stuff to flip. But otherwise, I still hate 90% of their practices and I haven't scored a penny guide in months from them, so they're expendable in that area to me.

Last time I saw Lego Rock Band at a BBV it was $19.99 for the Wii. You may want to try Target; the 360 & PS3 versions clearanced out over there so the Wii version may be next if they haven't already.

I'm gonna hit up a few stores today. Anybody else finding Beautiful Katamari for $6.99 at their Blockbusters? That is a steal of a deal considering it's somewhat rare.

Picked up:

PS3 - Prince of Persia $9.99
PS3 - Dead Space $9.99
PS3 - Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction $9.99
X360 - Fable II $6.99

Also doesn't hurt that I work there and finding missing cover art or transferring rentals isn't an issue :)
This sale is awesome!
anyone know an easy way to tell if a store is franchise or not without actually attempting to buy anything? whenever i ask at stores there is always some bitchy women who knows nothing and gets pissed when i ask about anything.
I had a tough time with this too. The best I can suggest is to seach BBV's website for store locations. The search results will have a column for the "Total Access" pass. I know that a lot of franchise stores kvetched that they had to honor the unlimited rental plan, so now it only works at corporate stores. Or at least that's what an employee told me. So, to summarize: Total Access Pass yes: corporate; Total Access Pass no: franchise.

I may be wrong, so someone more knowledgeable than me should correct me.

Got it at that same price a few montsh ago at BBV... Traded it in for $20 immediately after buying it at GS during their $20 promotion back a few months ago...
Sorry guys looks like it's just the x360 beatles rockband that is $14.99. Other 2 platforms stayed at $19.99
So is there going to be a drop tomorrow? One store told me that the PS3 & Wii versions are dropping tomorrow rather than today, but ive never really heard of two sets of reprice reports one day after another.
I also noticed Velvet Assassin dropped to $9.99 from $14.99.
Good to know. Might stop by my BBV to pick it up. I wasn't biting at $15 with B1G1, but I might go for it at $10 if I can find another $10 game to go with it.

Price drops only happen on Mondays. No price drop tomorrow

tiv for damnation dropped to $6. X360 rogue warrior still at $22

Pissed about this BRB deal. Was at a store this morning and they had 4 copies. I immediately called GS and found the 9.25 value, which is not really worth the gas to drive around for. Didn't think to check the best buy trade-in value! Not only that, but they offer $13 CASH for the complete game. Would work out to something like $20 of free CASH profit.

I basically confirmed that over lunch - both that Rogue Warrior held @ $22 and that only the X360 version of Beatles RB is @ $14.99.

GS TIV is at $9 for both X360 and Wii while the PS3 version only gets 6.25. What's up with that? I will hold out on modifying my Amazon trade-in until we find out whether or not the Wii BRB drops during the week (unlikely). Will look into BB, though...

I haven't had any problems with my BBV all week, but either the lady working there is bullshitting me, or I've got some serious competition here in Cookeville, TN. They had three copies of Beatles Rock Band for 360 and at least one Halo Wars for sale on Saturday- the day before they took them off the floor to change their prices. I went in at 11 this morning to pick a couple Beatles Rock Bands to flip to GS, and the table they should have been on hadn't changed at all. So I checked the section, too- nothing. I went to the counter and asked if I could buy a couple of the ones they had behind the counter- the guy I talked to Sunday said it could be Monday afternoon before they had them on the sales floor. But she said all the games they had for sale were in the section. As I was leaving, I saw a stack of four DS games I'd be willing to guess will be on the sales floor tomorrow, so I don't know what to make of it.

I really doubt someone came in and bought every game that got price dropped yesterday... I mean, I'm about the only person who's hit up my BBV for flips. The B1G1 games have hardly changed all week aside from the ones I've bought. What do you guys think I should do?
Can anyone confirm they restocked today?
I was in one of the Blockbusters I previously was at again yesterday and only can confirm this sale has cleaned them out ha ha
