Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

my BBV's only have bioshock 1 to rent...i asked them when they would convert them...cashier said no idea

wondering if I need to speak with manager

Stopped by both BBV stores near me again today; I did not see any new games converted or added to the sales, though a few games did drop in price (Beatles Rock Band for 360 to $15, as others have reported). I grabbed a few 'meh' titles, but I don't think I'll be seeing any more must-haves from this deal.
I haven't had any problems with my BBV all week, but either the lady working there is bullshitting me, or I've got some serious competition here in Cookeville, TN. They had three copies of Beatles Rock Band for 360 and at least one Halo Wars for sale on Saturday- the day before they took them off the floor to change their prices. I went in at 11 this morning to pick a couple Beatles Rock Bands to flip to GS, and the table they should have been on hadn't changed at all. So I checked the section, too- nothing. I went to the counter and asked if I could buy a couple of the ones they had behind the counter- the guy I talked to Sunday said it could be Monday afternoon before they had them on the sales floor. But she said all the games they had for sale were in the section. As I was leaving, I saw a stack of four DS games I'd be willing to guess will be on the sales floor tomorrow, so I don't know what to make of it.

I really doubt someone came in and bought every game that got price dropped yesterday... I mean, I'm about the only person who's hit up my BBV for flips. The B1G1 games have hardly changed all week aside from the ones I've bought. What do you guys think I should do?
Nothing.

Arg, people they don't "restock"! They might pull a few rental games for conversion to used sales but that's about it. I was at one store Sunday when they did this and it consisted of about 6 games, so don't get too excited over so-called "restocks" this week. Last week it may have seemed like they restocked if they were late on the big rental conversion in preparation for the B1G1 sale (which should have been done before the sale started but some stores put off till after - thus it appeared like a "restock").

anyone get tomb raider underworld on ps3 as part of BOGO FREE sale?

my stores are quoting me at 19.99!

man why are all my stores giving me different used game prices than what other cag's are reporting...no they aren't franchises.

anyone know a link to a coupon for renting a game at BBV for free?

Because employees are giving you sticker prices, not scanning prices. A lot of times they are too busy (or lazy) to reprice the games when the drops occur. So old stickers show higher prices than what it will scan for.

I got one of these, it should be 9.99. It is possible that it is new though, and so it could be 19.99. I randomly came across a R&C: ToD that was marked 19.99, and was told it was a new copy, so the sale did not apply.

just grab one of the entertainment books on the counter in store they have rent 1 get 1 free coupons inside. At least in my area every store has them.

Just back from a trip to Webster, MA BBV. Got the following:

normal cases
4x Beatles RB xbox360 @$14.99

POG cases (@ $6.99)
3x Midnight Club LA xbox360 ($10 TIV @ GS)
1x Mario Party 8 ($25 off $29.99 @ GS)
1x Bolt Wii
1x Need for Speed Carbon xbox360

My 3 year old wouldn't leave the store without Bolt, so I just threw on NfS:C to pad it.
Had me to the list of people who found Beautiful Katamary
I flipped two in the last week from POG -> GS on max tier for $18 each.

I found Beatles Rock Band at my local store, not yet retagged. Then I went to another store 8 miles away and they had none and only had about 20 used games total for sale. It was very odd, as this store used to get tons of prepacks and such. All in all, not too useful of a trip...

Oh, yeah, but I can confirm the $9.99 price dropon Velvet Assassin.

And I returned a defective Star Trek Legacy (tried HD install and it failed) and they gave me back the full $6.99, so that made my $14.99 B1G1 purchase of Beatles RB only $8 (plus the $3.50 I originally spent on Star Trek Legacy of course).

Not bad at all, yesterday i got....

SF4 (360) 14.99
Chaotic (360) 9.99
Dead Rising (360) 14.99
and Brutal Legends (360) 9.99

all for about 26 dollars, today i went back and got....

Kingdom Hearts (DS) 14.99
and Soul Calibur Broken Destiny (PSP) 14.99

Then i went and returned Dead Rising (360) for Dead Rising (Wii), and had an epic time at gamestop ^_^

Ended up keeping SF4, Chaotic, and Brutal Legends and trading everything else, easy 80 bucks with 2 other games i already had thrown in

I had a grumpy manager lady try to tell me that she was only allowed to sell me two copies of the same game when I tried to buy three copies of Beatles: RB. I went and looked at the B1G1 signage and the fine print said a customer could only buy 20 used games per day and only 5 copies of the same game per 90 days. I showed her that and she relented, but she was clearly irritated and said something like "that's different.... I've worked for Blockbuster for 20 years and its never been like that" (which is a crock of crap).

Moral of the story: BBV employees are not always right... as if most of us needed to be told that.

Hmmm... I have to admit I have not seen the new fine print but they used to have a 2 copies per game limit in the past, so that's what she's going from. On the other hand, I have not had anyone put any sort of limit on me and I think I bought 22 at one store, though for the most part they were unique titles (maybe 2 duplicates - OK, 3, see below). When I went in my local store the guy working there who knows me well got a call from his former manager who moved on to a bigger store. I was there last week and told the clerk to tell her manager that I "raided" her store (just as a joke since she knows me pretty well). She asked him to ask if that was me then they proceeded to have a big talk about limits and such. I think either she or the DM wasn't too happy with me purchasing so much, but the guy at my local store said he doesn't understand what the problem is - they want to get rid of that stuff anyway.

Looking back at my receipt from there (and the purchase was not using my account) I did buy 22 games and 3 were dupes, and no more than 2 of anything. I got 2 Dissidia, 2 Republic Heroes, and 2 Jonas DS. I also bought a Mario Kart race set there which they ought to appreciate (it was on clearance). Though even with that I only spent $142. She said I spent $200 - a little exaggeration there ;). Though possibly they got me mixed up with someone else too. Note that I didn't get there till late Thursday evening so there was plenty of time for regulars of that store to get whatever they wanted (if she was upset that maybe I wasn't a regular there). When I was looking through all the awesome games tons of people came in for movie stuff and didn't take a single glance at the used game section.

It's not like I have credit any more or do any trading there anyway, so that's why I was a little flippant (heh, no pun intended) with the comment to the clerk to tell her manager I "raided" the place. When I had cheap credit built from crappy flipped games I always felt a little bad buying the good stuff from them. But now that I am using actual real cash money, I don't feel one bit bad about giving them tons of it in exchange for decent games!

The fine print has been 5 per title per account for the last year or two, the only thing is that since the fine print says "PER ACCOUNT" you can essentially buy however many you want since you dont need an account to purchase.

:whistle2:?

Is it possible to swap the same game for a different platform? I got Damnation for the PS3, but I'm thinking I rather play it with a friend over Live.
Had me to the list of people who found Beautiful Katamary
Also to the list of people who can't form acceptable sentences with proper game names.

Yeah, I just purcheesed Little Big Plantation!

Sorry, I'm not trying to be a dick, it just seemed funny. Also, my local one didn't add anything.

Well, by decent I meant either decent for me to keep or decent for me to trade to Amazon ;). Actually, they should be even happier that I am taking some of these oddball games that for whatever reason they have 3-5 copies of. I've seen that one everywhere. No one else is buying them!

I haven't seen you around here much - thought you may have given up CAG, or at least BBV there h2dk. Now all we need is a Botticus and Shipwreck post in here and it will be all about 2006!

I stopped by the closest BBV to me today, and they actually had POGs. I'm wagering it was put out Monday as I didn't see them on Wednesday. Virtually all the games were for the 360 (which is fine since I don't have a PS3). They had multiple copies of COD4, Bioshock, Conan, GTA4 and several others. No recent A list titles, but it was nice to see they existed so close. Scooped up the games that I needed and a welcome find.
nuthin new at my BB. btw is velvet assassin any good?
Its not the greatest but a solid pickup imo for $9.99. I got it last Monday when the deal started and it was $14.99. You can definately do worse.

Don't even know why they care.

Not CAG...but definitely BBV (been working the GS "system"). Didn't catch this thread until Thursday evening and made a sweep on Friday of the local stores. Two kids birthdays this month so I scored a few cheapies for them (plus several for Amazon). Not used to spending cash at BBV, felt strange. Went into a store I hadn't been in in over a year and the girl behind the counter remembered me and pulled up my account without asking my name.

Anyhow, Today I grabbed 3 Beatles: RB (the guy went to talk to his manager after I handed him the cases...must have been regarding purchasing more than 2) and a Halo Wars. I may follow your lead and grab a copy of Jonas DS and Princess and the Frog to feed to Amazon (need to buy a GPS for the truck).

Oh...I did find the local store (albeit, too late) that gets POGs, next time I'll be ready:)

Eh, some people want others to have the chance to get a copy of the game or she probably assumed it was going to be resold and had an issue with that.

It looks like most Reno area BBV's are depleted. I just came from one with 14 copies of Beatles Rockband for 360. They had 7 mint cases w/o manuals and 7 BBV cases with the manuals as the cover art. The lady putting movies back freaked out when I removed the "cover art" and put it in the game box. I couldn't find another decent game from their limited selection so I ended up putting it back, for now. At least I snagged Sex Pot in 3-DDD for $2.99

My new PS3 came in today, which I ordered from Gamestop. I also ordered Pure and Fallout 3, but after doing a bit of research, I've decided to return Fallout 3. I don't want to have to deal with the glitches, and I think the goriness (severed heads and limbs) won't sit too well with my wife. Pure isn't coming in until tomorrow, so I decided to go to my nearest BBV to find some games to play on my PS3.

There wasn't much of a selection on the racks, so I decided to walk out. However, one of the employees knew I was looking at games and told me that he had a bunch of games that weren't on the shelves yet. He let me look through them, and I was able to find Resistance: Fall of Man, Mercs 2, Lair and Rainbow Six Vegas 2. If Resistance had been $9.99, then I would've picked up all 4 games. However, since it's still $14.99, I decided to just get Lair and Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

I'm looking forward to trying out both games tonight. Tomorrow I'll be getting Pure as well as my new copy of Burnout Paradise from the EA store. Woohoo!

She's probably just angry because she's been working at Blockbuster for 20 years and is still working in-store... ;)
Pfft, people should be happy we have jobs the way things have been going.

I scoured 3 different Blockbusters in the area today and not a one of them was selling ANY games! Frustrado. ARGH.

Are the stores in Simi Valley or San Fernando Valley just not participating?

FYI, the Blockbuster in Macedonia, OH by BB on OH-82 has 6 days left. Still piss poor sale prices.(games are still 40% and there are only a little bit left)

HD-DVDs disc only are still $2. DVDs are at $4 still.

BBV's corporate must be a lot stingier than HWV corporate since they are both being liquidated by the same people.(same signs, et cetera, as HWV/MG, CC, and FYE)

I only found 2 stores out of about 10 around here that got any (all 360 - never any Wii ones). But even given that, I was able to swing by the first store again yesterday (that I was at last Tuesday when the sale first started) and pick up several more than apparently people don't think are worth buying for $3.50: GTA IV, Saints Row 2, NFSU, and a couple of others. Considering that they got these in 2 weeks ago that's not too bad. The only one I remembered being there last time that was gone was Fallout 3.

I love mispriced games. Picked up Bakugan and Boom Blox Bash Party for $15.75. Only reason they were there was because they were marked at $24.99.

I saw Kingdom Hearts 358/2 but it was in a generic Blockbuster case and no manual :(. It was also mispriced but I would have picked it up if it was at least semi complete.

Bought Star Wars Republic Heroes and Transformers Revenge of the Fallen for $15. Almost bought these separately on 2 different occasions :D
Last time I saw Lego Rock Band at a BBV it was $19.99 for the Wii. You may want to try Target; the 360 & PS3 versions clearanced out over there so the Wii version may be next if they haven't already.

I'm gonna hit up a few stores today. Anybody else finding Beautiful Katamari for $6.99 at their Blockbusters? That is a steal of a deal considering it's somewhat rare.
I went to one BBV and found Beautiful Katamari but it was POG. I ended up loseing it somehow in all the games I was shuffling around, But I then went to another BBV and found it complete! same price too. $6.99!

Saints Row 2 is an *awesome* game. Just finished the story last night. Most fun I've had playing a game in a long time.
Glad I locked mine in, but for the rest of the unfortunate souls - Amazon dropped the TIV for RB Beatles to $15 for Wii and $12.50 for the 360. PS3 is still $9. I wonder what the current TIV's are at GS...the values here are a bit out of date.
Hmmm, the bbv in simi on Cochran had some good pog s a few days ago.... but yeah the valley is weaksauce right now.

Can anyone confirm if the Beatles Rockband for PS3 is also $14.99? I found one tagged this weekend at $19.99 and the employee scanned it and said it actually was $19.99.
