Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I've seen :360: SFIV for $14.99 at every BBV I've been to. Not sure about :ps3:.

Dunno if this was posted or not...

Halo Wars XBOX 360 has dropped to $14.99. I saw it today when I was in there, no new shipment of games, so I left empty handed.

I got:

:360: Red Faction: Guerilla
:360: Devil May Cry 4
:360: The Club
:360: Unreal Tournament III

All for just under $24. All perfect and complete except for UTIII which was disc only, generic case.

The girl that worked there had no idea there was a sale. The only indicator was a hand-written-in-ball-point-pen sign stating all games $14.99 and under were B1G1 free. She then asked a manager about it and he replied as if she SHOULD have known.

Ahhh, Blockbuster, you're a dinosaur of a company but I love your sales. :applause:

Stupid question but my BBV is closing so is this sale for all BBV or is it just regional? Also, do you need a BBV membership card to purchase games? I'm guessing you don't but i just want to make sure. I'm thinking about going over there tomorrow to see if they have anything good left. Thanks in advance!

B1G1 is for all corporate owned non-closing stores. If its closing, then you get a liquidation sale. If its franchise, you are pretty SOL. You aren't required a membership to purchase any games or videos, thats only for rentals.
I'm guessing you got Wolverine non-POG for $9.99? Guess that was a recent drop, if so I would of grabbed it when I blew more cash yesterday since they had it (was marked $19.99). Curses.
I'd like to know this as well. I had this on PS3 and never quite finished it, but for $9.99 I might pick it up again.
(Telephone & Bellfort and 75th & Lawndale). Neither stores had signs about the promo. The other location had a horrible selection (75th & Lawndale).
You are poaching on my hunting grounds! .. no really, this means I just beaten you to it ^_^ .. but better not come down here anymore .. hehe

I don't know if this applies to the entire country, but here in chicago several stores that I have been to over the past week added more 14.99 and under games to the selection yesterday. So you may find a better selection this week (YMMV). I am leaving now to go find some more deals!
For those wondering, I've seen Wolverine for Wii for (I think) $9.99- it was on the B1G1 table.
the ps3 version doesn't apply to sale?
were ppl able to get it for $9.99?

anybody know if BBV charges renters the preowned price for games if they are rented past the due date

i really want bioshock 1 ...no store has it to buy...they suggested i rent it then just keep it...however one employee concerned me when she said I would be charged somewherei n between 19.99 and 9.99
I was like what!

Well, I am going out in a bit and will try to settle the Wolverine dispute. Hopefully it fall under the price and I can nab that and R6V2

Stopped by a store today that had LOTS of used games...
This store had almost NO clear POGS :( Nothing worthwhile anyway.
Some NOTABLE titles...

Still $19.99 or more per price check (rental conversions, not clear case POGs):
RE5
Guitar Hero Metallica
COD4
Midnight Club LA
Dirt 2
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2

$9.99
Brutal Legend (360) (just bought new for $3 on EAstore deal)
Jean De Arc (PSP)
Ghostbusters
The Club

$14.99
Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Red Faction Guerrilla
HAWX
Boom Blox Bash Party (I don't have a Wii)
Mercenaries 2 (just bought new for $3 on EAstore deal)
Street Fighter IV (360)

I ended up buying for about $23 with taxes...
Red Faction $15 (360, disc only)
Ghostbusters $10 (360, disc only)
Spiderman 3 $7 (360 +slipcover, for my son)
Sega Rally Revo $7 (PS3 complete)

Was going to get Transformers game for $7, but they were all scratched to shit.
I was having a hard time finding 2x of any price point $15/$10/$7 that I actually wanted, or were flippable.

Got for the 360 in the Hazleton, PA are the other day

Condemed 1 & 2
Brutal LEgend
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, all for $18

Looking for MUA2, Saints Row 2, and Ghostbusters
Price drops have since happened after the beginning of the sale, so here is to hoping. I am heading out now to check!
And this week there was no wolverine. I only saw like 2 or 3 14.99 drops on the list this week, beatles 360 was one, the others I don't remember because apparently they're either that bad or very low TiVs maybe.
Did Lego Rockband 360 drop to 14.99 with Beatles?
No, and I don't get it. I always thought Lego Rock Band would drop before Beatles (just in general: MSRP and used sales price). Not only that, but they seem to have a lot in stock at many BBV stores.

The other notable one that everyone seems to be ignoring is Guitar Hero Smash Hits for the PS3.

I also noticed that Star Ocean for 360 dropped from $29.99 to $19.99 - so close!

I picked up Overlord 2 (360) and prince of persia (360) and it came out to $16. It was buy 1 get 1 free, but the lady told me the price was 50% off? Can't blame her, she looked like she just wanted to go home, oh well, still a good deal :)

Grabbed another PS3 Smash Hits for Best Buy flipping, found out that X360 was still $19.99. Had to throw in a random Wii game to match for $14.99. Girl also hooked me up with the rental copy case of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and matched that with a Dead Space.

May have to go back through both Blockbusters and grab more for Blockbuster -> Game Stop -> Best Buy flipping.

That's B1G1, not 50%. Overlord is $14.99 and PoP is $9.99, so 50% off would be $12.50 + tax. You paid $14.99 + tax.

You know, in theory this sounds great, but by the third time you're doing it, you're like "I have too much time on my hands..."

or playing his other games that he got cheap (this is cheap ass gamer after all).

Wow, I just got back from a Blockbuster on the way back from the mall and it had like 12 Beatles Rockbands lol

I guess I should go buy them all and flip 4 a piece at Bestbuy, Gazelle, and gamestop.

I finally got in on this deal. Visited the only Blockbuster we have left around here and got:

PS3 - Mirror's Edge (9.99)
PS3 - Dirt 2 (it was marked 9.99, rang up 24.99 but she gave it to me for my free game)
PS3 - Valkyria Chronicles (14.99)
XBox 360 - Rock Band: The Beatles (Free)

All in regular cases with manuals and so forth, not bad.

I had them scan a copy of :360: Origins: Wolverine and it rang up as $19.99 still.

I ended up walking out with :360: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 $14.99 and :360: Bionic Commando $9.99 (Free)

Brings my total games bought from this deal to 10!

I have a question about Gazelle. I have a copy of Kirby Super Star Ultra but the sticker on the ds cart is ripped off, so Gamestop won't take it. Will Gazelle or Amazon? It has everything else with it.
I REALLY wish someone had mentioned Gazelle earlier. Seriously? $9 for Jonas and Tinker Bell for DS? I'm going to have a LOT of fun with this next pay day. :3
I can't believe you are not keeping those games. Hoarder! :bomb:
If anyone could find a Bully Scholarship Edition for 360 please PM me and let me know.
Damn I just flipped a couple of pre-packs to GS. I guess I don't feel as bad since they were disc only but still. They were only $3.50 after the split.

I might be heading to another BBV tomorrow. I'll keep an eye out.

Picked up Soul Calibur, MUA2, Dissidea and KH358/2 to trade - cannot believe they were still there after a week.

BTW, is anyone else bemused by the picked up 16 games, picked up 10 games so far stuff?? I recall in the days of credit farming a couple of years back doing 50 or 60 games a week easily between GS and BBV. Ahhh... the good old days :)

Went out again tonight and got the following titles:

iconds.gif
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (Complete)
iconpsp_r2.gif
SoulCalibur Broken Destiny (Complete)
iconwii.gif
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Missing Manual, cover has the Display Only box)
iconps2_r2.gif
Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence (Been wanting and only $6.99, no manual though plus discs look a bit beat up. Gonna try it out in a bit)

Then a couple of days back I picked up some other games I forgot to list here which are:

iconps3.gif
Bionic Commando (missing manual, was curious)
iconps3.gif
Rad Faction Guerrilla (missing manual)

Me and my friend decided to do another Blockbuster run and I came out with...

Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise (missing manual)
Dark Sector
FEAR
Rayman: Raving Rabbids (POG for my sister)
MLB Power Pros 2008
GTA: Chinatown Wars for DS

Total of 20 gotten from this sale.

Stopped at a couple stores today to look for Beatles RB to flip, Halo Wars to keep, and see what else was still around. Found both the games I was lookin for at the first store I checked, but the guy said Halo Wars wasn't actually in stock.

Then at the 2nd store, I got to talking with the clerk & he actually brought up this site. Guess that means I'll never find anything amazing at that store, lol. Anyway, ended up with

360
Beatles RB - 14.99
Disneys Bolt - 9.99
Eat Lead - 9.99
Eternal Sonata - 9.99
MLB Front Office Manager - 9.99
Spiderman Web of Shadows - 9.99

DS
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 - 14.99

Quick question since I just got GTA: Chinatown, but how the hell do I create a new save file? I Know wrong place, but I'm impatient and now it's bugging me...
