Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Does anyone have a link to the best buy $20 FTF coupon? It's no longer hosted on their gamer zone website and would't mind getting a copy for own/trade in.
Anyone trade FTF's today?? Just wondering if the $22 TIV is still holding. I would call, but my BBV aren't open yet.
Not a clue. After them denying me yesterday on trying to trade in 2 more FF's at the first store I traded to on Sunday after getting them and being told that 'once our manager calls our DM and sees if you can trade anymore, we'll call you' I'm done with this Blockbuster since they're a pain in my ass.

I mean, I understand that they don't want to take more because they may think I 'stole' them, but I have receipts to prove otherwise.:D

Oh well. I'm headed to the same GS I hit up yesterday and hopefully I can trade them 2 more copies, then I'm going to try and trade 2 to the local game stores.:D
My gamerush has Wii's for $200. Hmm, it's tempting but I just don't see myself ever playing it. I hope DJ hero goes on sale there soon because they have tons of those and I wouldn't mind trying it out.
I know the PS3 DJ Hero is $99. It's not a great price, but it's better than $119. (Not sure why they sent my store 2 PS3 versions and none for the 360. Silly Blockbuster.)

Your lucky to find anything good at your blockbusters.. after seeing your $22 TIV I took mine along with me and the two BB I checked were baron of anything remotely decent for PS3 so I did not trade in my lone sealed 360 copy of FTF ;)

blockbusters here are a bust - My account is still flagged for no trades. I'm sticking with TRU - no probs with multiples, no probs with buying PSN/Wii/360 cards, no problems with putting it on a gift card/accumulating credit.

yep. corporate is PISSED
my manager noticed the 10 FF on the shelf and shot off an email to corporate
the guy who traded them in is banned at my store and every other store in our district
i hope the rest of you get what you deserve :)

Well, assuming you can get one of your Gamestops to take in one of each(if you have more than one, that is), they were getting $9 each yesterday in credit before the $5 bump for trading 4 games in. That's assuming you can find 2 more games to trade in with them. Another possibility is $16 from GC/HWV or $18-22 from FYE depending on whether or not you want cash or credit.;)

As of now, I have to go liberate a copy of Resistance 2 that I bought from HWV's $5 sale from my buddies' house. I'm pairing that with my WWE Legends Of Wrestlemania for PS3 that I got from Blockbuster using credit I had leftover from my last run there and 2 more copies of Fairytale Fights to try and get enough to pay off my pre-order of God Of War III for this coming March.:D
Does anyone have a link to the best buy $20 FTF coupon? It's no longer hosted on their gamer zone website and would't mind getting a copy for own/trade in.
The coupon expired on the 20th, the day the game went on sale for $19.99, which is why everyone was running to get copies.

I've never traded to Blockbuster and don't plan to, but how can they ban someone who has credit to spend? Do they give them cash for the credit and tell them to fuck off?

Nah, I was banned last year after probably trading multiple copies of Oblivion, Legendary, Infinite Undisovery, etc. All those super high GS-BBV-GS-BBV etc flips.

I was just surprised it was still in effect. I laughed at the guy and said I was surprised it was still in effect - He said a district manager had put it in there! ;)

I just said that was from those good old days when I could get free Visa Gift Cards on BBV's tab and left.

no you are wrong
blockbusters are closing left and right, budgets are already tight and a store that gives out 200$ for games that wont sell until they qualify for the b1g1 are gonna get screwed. next step, bb will stop doing trades. some stores have already shipped out all their pv games.

Yeah all the HWV left around me dont even sell games period .. no Gamecrazys within reasonable driving distance now and Blockbusters are dropping off like flies around here lol.. I dont have anything to trade in to stack on the promo for EB/GS so I may just happen to check the lone BB by my work or else be a dick and slap it on Ebay for like $9.99 BIN to further deplete the value seeing its going around $13-17 as of now lol....

I played the PS3 version which I got for myself on Sunday and its not bad for what it is they just needed to add some sort of lock on so your not swinging aimlessly like you do at times...

My brother gave me the 360 one and now im stuck with it lol

That's exactly why they probably should stop doing trades, or learn how to do it correctly. It's their own fault for diving into a market they aren't willing to do one moment of research on. If BBV was savvy at all they'd have adjusted the TIV down to like $5 two days ago, instead it's still sitting at $22, which we can only assume is a fair market price for BBV to buy it at, in their mind. (of course, those breaking the rules by trading in more than 2 copies is a whole other thing)

Nobody's more well equipped than BBV to change their own damn TIV prices. Why don't they do it? Who knows? Why was Cranium Kabooki worth $20 for 9 months? Cause they're stupid about it. They don't deserve to be coddled cause they dont' know how to run their own business. They have the right to refuse trades, but we have the right to bring them shitty games at overpriced values, too.

So it's not as glitchy as I've heard it is? If so, I may actually keep 1-2 copies for the PS3 and give one to my one buddy to try out like I intended to.

That's good to know, since I know I don't like playing glitchy games(Mercs 2 for PS3:roll:). I don't know what the hell happened with that game after the first one being so much fun. I couldn't even play it through to the end.

So true, this is why BBV sucks and is going to die. You cant just get into a market you know nothing about and have a dumb system in place. I know everyone hates them, but this is why Gamestop is where they are. They know their business and do it to be as successful as they can be. Cant blame them for knowing how to make money.

Well it wasnt any better on the 360 (Mercs 2). I will give FTF more time before I make a whole hearted opinion of it but so far its interesting and just packed with humorous things. In just looking so far the game is great for free lol but the devs should of budget price released it or worse case made it a DL game for like $14.99 or something because its a fun little hack n slash so far with a ton of dark humor but they doomed themselves releasing it for $60

Sorry for the double post, but you are so right on the Mercs 2. What a peice of garbage. How can a game with so many issues even be released? I will play fairytale fights over mercs 2 anyday considering it is actually playable. Even if it is still a boring game.

Fairytale Fights would have been bearable if they hadn't made you flick the right stick to attack. That's really awful.

I actually like the analog attack scheme they use.. it works and makes the fighting fluid instead of button mashing or putting in some complex moves to pull something off.. its a simple idea and to me fits the theme of the game.. Sorry I have been an avid gamer since the days of the Atari 2600 lol and maybe a little more forgiving then most gamers and sometimes not as hard to please unless it comes from the big name developers, then you just expect quality on every aspect.

Actually, Godfather and Godfather II made you use the sticks for attacks and those games are still among my favorites, though Godfather II kind of tanked in price pretty quick I thought.
I know the PS3 DJ Hero is $99. It's not a great price, but it's better than $119. (Not sure why they sent my store 2 PS3 versions and none for the 360. Silly Blockbuster.)
Not even for $60.
$50 is a stretch
$40 and maybe

I remember when Mark of Kri did that on PS2! I loved that game and I thought the combat was wonderful.

Rise to Honor (or something similar) on PS2 did the attack with sticks scheme pretty well and was fun. Think it had Jet Li in it too.

Price is still $22 for FTF. After getting told I couldnt' trade any at my local store, I took 2 copies of each to 3 different BBV's and got 47 and change for each 2. I'm waiting on a slim PS3...

How are you getting $47 and change?? Are they giving you tax as well? I think mine just give you the $44.

I bought a gift card for an xmas present with some credit. Hopefully b1g1 comes in the next few weeks. The ones I have visited are planning on getting new games next year as well. They were taking reserves for Darksiders, Mass Effect 2, and Bioshock 2.

I have recently tried to make a purchase (Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection PS3) with my value/gift card online. I made partial payment with CC and value/gift card and it went through alright, but in 5 minutes or so I get an email stating that the order has been canceled and the total amount will be refunded to the credit card info given. Ummz...does that mean I got my value/gift card amount onto my credit card? I tried checking the balance on the value/gift card and so far its at $0.00. The credit card statement so far has no refund (only the pending charge for the original payment).

I sent an email to BBV, but in the mean time does anyone have an idea of what to expect?

No, not like that. This is a button masher, so you are constantly flicking the stick in the direction you want to attack, but you can't hold it in that direction or you charge up a power attack. To do any quick repeated attacks, you flick the stick, return to center, then flick again. It's super annoying.

there is a possibility of having buy 1 get 1 free on new games at blockbuster? i never purchased any games for BBV before, so sorry for the silly question. i do have some in-store credit with them, so i might save it until that sale.
I've never traded to Blockbuster and don't plan to, but how can they ban someone who has credit to spend? Do they give them cash for the credit and tell them to fuck off?
It is usually just a trade ban but you can still buy stuff there.

1: No. I've never seen a deal on a new game at my store other than at best a 5$ gift card with pre-order.

2: Sure we do pre-orders on a select few large titles and we may end up with like 5-20% of that stock leftover, which at my store is still literally 0, but I haven't seen extra copies of new games come in for like a year.

Since when has Blockbuster started selling stuff online? I assume you mean that you bought a pre-paid credit card at Blockbuster with some of the credit from the trades you made, since I don't think they sell anything online at this point.

As far as the amount going onto your credit card you used besides the value card/gift card, I doubt that would happen, but you never know. I guess you just need to take a wait and see approach to this.

I have never seen b1g1 on new games, but they have ones normally a few times a year on used.

I was able to make a purchase online through the link on top. Everything worked out great, but it seems they were sold out of that game (I think). Buying games from BBV online ain't great (by no means Amazon competitor), however I was able to make a purchase with my gift card. Sadly the order has been canceled with this following message:
"We have cancelled the following item(s) of your order *xxx* as we are not able to fulfill. This is your refund confirmation for the following item(s)..."
"Your refund will be applied to the credit card displayed below..."

Checked again with my giftcard and still at $0.00. I know usually it takes 2-3 business days for CC to be credited with a refund (experience from Amazon). I'm just confused why the refund hasn't been already credited to my gift card.

**edit**
I just got this email from customer rep (basically in response it will get refunded to)
"Hi *xxx*,

Thank you for contacting Blockbuster Customer Care.

I understand that you need more information if the refund that was processed on your account will be applied on your credit card.

It appears that the cancellation and refund of your order was processed on 12/22/2009. Please allow up to three to seven business days for the refund to post to your account and it will be refunded on your credit card that we have on file.

Should you have further concerns, please let us know.

Does this definitively mean that even the gift card balance gets transferred to my CC? If so then I would just make the purchase on Amazon (cheaper too). By the way... I got this gift card after trading in Lego Batman ps3 with Fairytale Fights ps3. I only got one Fairytale Fights for the kids and it was more violent than I thought so I traded it in to get another game for them. Don't get me wrong...I would've gotten more ^^ but only one copy was available (probably for the best).

Okay, that makes sense. I couldn't see how they could block someone from using credit they just issued.

I'm assuming you missed out on the $10 online coupon a couple summers back. Probably for the best though, you may have ruined it for us all.

The joke's on them though. Have you seen the price of new copies of this game on Amazon? Instead of getting a mere $16 per copy you can be getting a lot more that that now ;)

May have ruined it for all of you? Riiiiight. What's the $10 online coupon you're talking about? I remember a 5/$25 coupon that was a regional thing that someone on here posted and everyone started using and people were getting hauls of really new release titles for $5 a pop.

While it was found to be a real coupon, it was abused like crazy and Blockbuster put an end to it's use REALLY quick.:D But not before some people posted pics of stacks and stacks of used titles that were $49.99 or over.

thanks for the info, Vortextk. :)
i want to buy demon's souls with the $30 gift card i got, but i wish blockbuster online had at least free shipping (or free ship-to-store pick ups) or no tax for game purchases.

it sucks that all my local BBV are closing, except this one store that's 15 miles away. the ones that are closing have games like time shift, mercenaries 2, bolt, nothing i really care for. maybe if they have such sale i might travel those extra miles. :)

Blockbuster had GREAT real deals when it first started. Trade in ANY 2 games and get a Pre-Order for $30 or something like that. I remember I preordered like 5 360 games when it was at launch....I basically got my 360 and all those games for minimal out of pocket cost.

I would love a B1G1 or some more flips to get my credit to $300ish....currently at $144.

It was a $10 off any order over $10 multiple use coupon code. Shipping was also free if I remember correctly.

Now this I don't recall at all - we must have missed it here. I kind of remember looking online at some point when they started selling stuff and many of the prices were way over what they charged in store so it didn't seem worthwhile. I don't remember the coupon though - not sure it would have made much of a difference.

As for new games, yeah, since the demise of GR-specific deals there hasn't been much on new games. Of course, as doubledown pointed out they had the trade 2 get a preorder for $30, which was awesome (but only at GR stores). Combining their (then) great trade-in values with $30 for any game was incredible. It was at the end of the Xbox/PS2/GC days, though, and was not supposed to apply to 360 games (YMMV as some people managed to swing it). They also had frequent clearance markdowns on new games that applied a both GR and regular stores which at the time stocked a lot of older new games.

Then there was a period when the regular stores ditched all their new games and with my GR store closed I thought it was the end for BBV - this was 2006 or 2007 I think? Then, all of a sudden, they decided to stock new games and even systems which was a new thing for non-GR stores. That was like the second golden age there, even though they never had the trade-in deals. But then last January they cut all their trade-in values down to be more in line with Gamestop which started to make them irrelevant (you might as well trade at GS, then, where the selection is 1000x better). Then, they had one last clearance sale last spring and ditched all the new stuff yet again. I haven't seen any new games at any Blockbusters in a few months now. The only thing keeping them somewhat useful these days are the occasional out-of-line cheap prices (Wii Music and Mario Sluggers for $9.99 for example) combined with B1G1 sales and frequent rental conversions to keep the used game section stocked. They are overflowing with cheap stuff now and really need to have another sale!

I just traded in the last of my 6 about 10 min ago and I got 47 and some change for the last of mine (2). Made enough for another PStriple!

Yeah, it was 2 summers ago (before I became a member here). I didn't buy any games, just dvds. For instance, you could buy 2 dvds that were priced at $5.99 for $2 w/free shipping (6+6-10=2). As long as the total was $10 before tax, the coupon took $10 off. One of the craziest and best deals I've seen. It ended up lasting nearly 2 weeks if memory serves correct.

Looks like my main GR/BB only has the larger PS3's. Have ANY of the BBV or GR's gotten slim PS3's??

The bundles mine has are $400 so if they are the only ones I can find, I will probably just buy Blu-Ray's and try to get my PS3 somewhere else. Unless I can find something to get at BB that I can flip to Gamestop.

to me the glory days of bb/gr was when they had trade 3 games get a used for $5, which also led to my lifetime ban at some stores. i learned then not to go overboard, but i had all the new games. 2 psp and orginal xbox off of it
