Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I traded in my copies of FTF @ 4 different Blockbuster stores today & yesterday. My total store credit was about $330. The last store I stopped @ had a 40 gig PS3 bundle left. It included Spiderman 3 Bluray and Little Big Planet. $299.99 retail & including tax, I still had a few $$$ in credit left.

So, I basically got a brand new PS3 for FREE! I am so happy w/ it so far, words cannot express. :D
Yeah, it was 2 summers ago (before I became a member here). I didn't buy any games, just dvds. For instance, you could buy 2 dvds that were priced at $5.99 for $2 w/free shipping (6+6-10=2). As long as the total was $10 before tax, the coupon took $10 off. One of the craziest and best deals I've seen. It ended up lasting nearly 2 weeks if memory serves correct.
I remember what you're talking about (it was all over Slickdeals), but I don't think there were any games either on the site or eligible for the coupon...

From that I got Da Ali G Show (Season 1), About Schmidt, American Splendor, The Producers, and The SNL Tracy Morgan Collection all for ~$2.

This morning in NW Ohio I attempted to trade in my Fairy Tale Fights for PS3 (one copy) and the lady told me that they were no longer accepting it as a trade. I had some credit there and they still have the $10 coupon so I bought Uncharted 2.

TIV:

Xbox 360 TNA Wrestling - $2.50
Xbox 360 Rainbow 6 Vegas - $4.00
PS3 - Saints Row 2 - $6.00

2 of these 3 would not qualify for the promotions at GS.

Uh Oh looks like they may have pulled the FTF plug. Hopefully most of you traded your copies in. I know I got a strange look and a question to the manager from the girl doing my trade last night. I had been in the same GR/BB 2 days before with the same game to trade. At that time they gave me a gift card, this time they said something like "we don't have any value cards and can't give you a gift card, do you just want it on your account?? I was fine with that, hopefully they aren't trying to flag me as a thief or something. lol

I had to go to 5 BBVs to trade in 3 copies of FTF yesterday. At one store, the manager very loudly told me that she "wasn't going to accept any more copies of that F'in game." :whistle2:# It seems that most BBVs got a lot of copies of this game, so they are pretty pissed. She asked me how and whhere I got them for free, so they are aware of it. Trading it in right now must be considered YMMV at this point.....

And by the way, why does it really matter how much I paid for it. When I traded some in the other day, the manager commented that $22 was pretty good and I was getting almost half my money back (like I should feel good about them ripping me off). But when they know that I got it for free, they are pissed off......

I traded in two copies last night and tonight will try another store nearby. I will let you all know how it goes... If not, I will take them to ToysRus for $10.50
lulz at whoever still has copies of this game that they didn't already trade in. gotta get on these deals quick guys.
I have a PS3 copy im actually playing, but Im sitting on a sealed 360 version and I checked 2 blockbusters around me and they had next to nothing for the PS3 so I held off on trading it in.. I didnt trade and just apply to card because who knows when I would use it with the chitty selection around me and on top of it Blockbusters are closing like crazy around me so I dont want to be sitting on credit I cant use : ;)

Ya, I know what you mean about selection, I'm from pretty nearby to you ;) I was thinking about going up towards you (because of my lack of things to buy at BBV), but I stop my flipping line at a certain point because I don't wanna go on other CAGs "turf" (mainly because I know the general area that you are in lol).

It was just simple finding things to easily flip from BB to GS, and I picked up MW2 for the ps3, monsters inc on blu and a few other thigns I can't think of off the top of my head. Oh, and I kept a copy on ps3 to play, and a 360 one to give to my kid brother when I go home for Christmas.

Went in to trade a couple of FTF and got shout down at BB. Worker said they got an email this morning that they could not take FTF trades.
^I had a feeling they were going to do this. Not like the old days when BBV was oblivious to TIV's.
considering how many easy under the radar flips there are, i'm glad i steered clear of this one.
considering how many easy under the radar flips there are, i'm glad i steered clear of this one.
You're glad you steered clear of this? Why is that? The game was free.
What's the best way to move my BBV credit to either cash or over to Gamestop so I can buy a Slim PS3??

I have $110 in credit.
I would wait till after Christmas to see if BBV has a B1G1 sale on $14.99 and under used games. If the current $20 bonus promo at GS is extended that will make for a pretty easy transfer. Even without the B1G1 there are probably a few titles worth picking up - just check the GS TiV thread against what your BBV has available.

Rat bastards!!! I still have 20+ copies to unload. Looks like its playntrade for me or tru but that TIV is low as hell.

15 copies * 22 = 330 + tax (16.50) on value card

bought 6 50.00 gift cards for the 6 (5.00) free gift cards promo

bought an opened/display 40 GB PS3 Tranformers the game/Spiderman Bluray/12 week rental bundle for

320.00 + tax = 336 and still 41 dollars credit left

since the box was open, no remote or Transformers video game but manager replaced it with 2 used games

I picked out 2 copies of COD: MW2 for xbox 360

There was a block buster with a two 400.00 80 GB bundles with another movie/game
walle/little big planet
transformers2/something

did I get a good deal?

LMAO...

I'm glad I traded in 15 of my 17 copies of FTF to BBV when I did! Man, I love my PS3...it's so awesome! :bouncy:

I might trade in my remaining 2 PS3 copies @ GS w/ a Wii game I don't play for the bonus $10 towards MGS4, RE5, or Valkyria Chronicles. My wife was kinda pissed w/ me that I was late to pick her up from her doctor's appointment (I was trying to find a BBV that wasn't going out of business), so I told her that as a consolation I would get RE5 for her to play (I've been wanting to play it also). ;)

There's quite a back catalog of PS3 games I wanna get, or @ least try out.

You got an insane deal. I wish my local Blockbuster stores still had systems in stock, but the most they carry are DS systems and I don't want one of those. Though I could've probably flipped it on CL and sold it for $90-100 or so just to convert some credit into cash.

I'm just glad I got rid of the four copies I did to two Blockbuster stores(and four copies to two seperate GS stores) before they were told to stop taking them in.

Oh well. It was fun while it lasted, which wasn't very long. I really wish Blockbuster would've remained oblivious like in the old days, back when I was flipping copies of Cranium Bukakke and Dynasty Warriors Gundam for PS3 and 360(back when both DW:G versions got $32 and $35 or so in credit each).

anyone know where I can flip the spiderman 3 bluray for quick/most?
I'm thinking 20 dollars on craigslist

Where's the best place to flip the MW2 now?
TIV for MW2 on amazon for 37.50, says my time expires on 12/31, does that mean drop off to UPS by then?

I thought I was being bad, by trading in 12 copies to Game Crazy netting me 160dollars credit. Guess Blockbuster was the way to go with the Fairy Tale Fights fiasco. They made me sign a piece of paper, saying not to trade in any more Fairy Tale Fights. I thought it was funny. I still have 5 copies left that will be used as gifts on Friday for my cousins.

Craigslist might net you the most cash on it, however who knows how long it would take for someone to bite. I was gonna keep my copy of it, so I opened it. I might keep it still, or trade it. You're not gonna get much from Amazon, that's for sure. They only give $2 trade for the Bluray.

I'm in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area of NC & each BBV I went to said they could take 2 copies of the game PER PLATFORM. This basically meant I was able to trade in 4 copies of FTF @ each store. I still have one sealed PS3 copy & an opened PS3 copy. I played it, & I can understand the frustration from the control scheme. I can get $10 TIV @ Best Buy, or $9 @ GS. I am not sure if I wanna keep a copy to play through & get the trophies or not. At least one of my remaining copies will be traded though.

If Madworld for the Wii ends up being free after coupon this sunday, I'm gonna go hit up about 6 Best Buys & get another Wii through TIV. I had one, but had to sell it a few months ago to pay some bills.

We shall see... ;)

I went to two Blockbusters last night, but I went after 9:30 and in Chicago you can't trade in games after 9:30 at blockbuster. Not sure why. But yeah, I used the credit to get the assassins creed psp bundle at Game Crazy. Also traded in my original psp 1000, so I ended up only paying 20 bucks for the tax. Pretty sick deal imo.

I've seen spiderman 3, it blows.

Whats the TIV for MW2 @GS and whats/wheres this 50% coupon I keep reading about?

Yeah, I saw it in theaters. It was ok, but not nearly as good as I had hoped. The ONLY reason I was interested in watching it was because of Venom. However when I think of Eddie Brock, Topher Grace isn't the actor that comes to mind for the part.

I might watch it once or twice, but will most likely trade the Bluray in to Amazon. I figure @ $2 TIV, if it decides whether or not I can use it to get a PS3 game that I want, then it's worth it.

How's AC on the PSP?

Lol this FTF (Fairy Tale Fight I'm assuming) ruckus reminded me of the Fantastic 4 flip back in the good ole days. $5 a copy into $20 in BBV. Got myself a playstation 3 from that and a ban from trading in 1 store lol.

Haven't gotten into it much yet. Still playing AC2 on the ps3, and I heard the stories, go with each other so I want to beat AC2 first.

LOL

:applause:

LOL about not going into another CAG turf.. This area is so overrun with hoarders its very slim pickins for me but I have gone all around at different times so im sure I may have stepped on toes before but most of the time im out to get a copy to play and leave lots behind for the clean up crews.

Same thing here in Ohio I tried to trade Too Human at around 9:30 once and got denied so I put it on Goozex for 1000 points :).
You're glad you steered clear of this? Why is that? The game was free.
yeah and most if not all of you are now flagged in the system. now anything you guys trade will raise eyebrows before 1000 get traded in regionally. glad i'm not on that list :)

lolz "flagged in the system"

I think it'll be a lucky surprise if all the BBV stores around me aren't closed by the time the next good flip comes around, the way it's been going, so who gives a shit?

Third'd. The way Blockbuster is going, they'll be lucky to survive another year or two before joining Circuit City and other stores that're no longer around.

With the BBV store closings, it sucks that the employees are losing their jobs, but with the way corporate has managed the business, it is no wonder it's failing. I mean come on! Almost $10 to rent a game for 5 days?!!! Sure, some people have time to finish games in that amount of time, but a lot of these games can be purchased (most likely elsewhere) for just a few $$$ more.

Not to mention netflix.

Hit a BBV/GR while out shopping today ... they had a bin of "clearance" titles, and I was excited to see stuff like Batman:AA and Brutal Legend in the pile ... until I saw the prices: $54.99. Gee, thanks for that deep clearance discount!
I left disappointed, but hopeful those overpriced titles will be marked down at some point.

No, I won't be flagged in any system. I've never traded any games into Blockbuster. I haven't even rented at a Blockbuster in nearly 2 years. Only sales for me. I'm guessing you're just upset you missed out on all the hoarding that the others here participated in.

I doubt anyone has anything to worry about. Worst case you get banned from trading. They STILL have to honor the credit you have accumulated, spend that and walk away. I highly doubt BBV will be around after about 12-24 months.

The thing is, NOBODY has done anything illegal. If they get BBV employees to take more than the daily alloted limit (1 per platform per day at my BBV) then it's the employees or local managers fault. We haven't stole anything and have receipts (at least I do) to prove it.

Puh-lease. I seriously doubt the company that allowed Cranium to trade in for $16 while selling it at $6.99 (for months) is going to have the intelligence, organization, and diligence to flag people for this.
FYI just called Gamecrazy and they are offering $16 before MVP for FTF.
thx, I'll flip my last copy to them
