Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

All right! I got called off of work today, and I don't think I could be happier. :p I got my Gazelle check in today, so I cashed it and hit up my BBV one more time:

Toy Story Mania/Toy Story Mania- $15
Toy Story Mania/Spongebob: Truth or Square (DS)- $15
Overlord II (360)/Guitar Hero: Metallica- $15
Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter/Tinkerbell: Lost Treasure- $10
Timeshift/Stuntman: Ignition- $7

Except for the last two and Guitar Hero Metallic, I traded in all of those and a Star Wars: The Clone Wars Republic Heroes I got a while back for fodder. I ended up paying ~$75, got $110.25 in Gamestop credit, and kept the other three games. Plan on trading GHM to Gazelle for $13, and keeping Timeshift and Stuntman. :D Thanks, OP! It's been a great run at BBV. This sale has certainly put them on the map for me- not just for games, but for DVDs, too. They're 3 for $20 on Previously Viewed DVDs is really sweet, especially for new releases, so I'll probably do business with them for that whenever month-old or so movies get put on there. ^_^ And, of course, I'm looking forward to the next B1G1! Until then, it's been fun, everyone! :p

Had quite the afternoon. Six BBV's in four hours lol. Ended up buying games at five of them, all paid with cash (didn't feel like going through the GS to BBV flipping). Most of the stores were ok, but two couldn't find same of the games I wanted and one did not want to ring stuff up the right way (giving me the wrong games for free). All told spent $167.42 total and traveled 66 miles roundtrip. Ended up getting the following:

4 Wii Beatles Rock Band
7 Wii Cars Race-o-rama
6 Wii Toy Story Mania
2 Wii Guitar Hero Metallica
1 PS3 Guitar Hero Smash Hits
1 360 TMNT (easy achievements lol)
1 360 Wall-E (had to pair something with TMNT, was this or Viking)

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention what happened with the manuals. Before I checked out, three of the games I was planning on buying had no cover art with them. I asked the cashier if he didn't mind letting me have the one they put on display for rentals, but he said they probably had one in the cabinet somewhere. Confused, I asked him what he meant, so he took my games behind the counter and opened up a cabinet.

Inside were about five shoebox-sized boxes filled with only cover art and manuals.

He said they had shipped out or sold a good majority of the games that had cover art or manuals in the box, but sometimes people were lazy and didn't put them in. He found all three cover arts for the games I had. :O Once he was done, he said sometime soon they were probably going to go through to see which ones they needed, and they were going to throw out the rest. I was like, "you may not be allowed to do this, but once you find that out, I'd love to take them off your hands if you were just going to throw them away." He said that would be okay.

I may end up with a BUNCH of manuals and cover art sometime soon. That would be awesome. :p Anyway, long story short, don't be afraid to ask for cover art/manuals at your store. I was planning on taking a $10 hit in credit before, but now I'm really glad I asked!

Don't know anything about Wall-E (other than it being a great movie), but Viking is actually a really solid title. Definitely worth $5, imho.

Holy ****. You're looking at $303 in Gazelle credit with the first four titles alone. o_O
Holy ****. You're looking at $303 in Gazelle credit with the first four titles alone. o_O
More or less, yes. One of the Toy Story's didn't have cover art so it'll probably be going to Gamestop. All the time I spent on this today (and other days looking for deals) really make me glad I work nights lol.

I picked up SIX copies of Toy Story Mania earlier from my local Blockbuster, then took them immediately to Gamestop. They told me again that as long as I have a receipt I can do multiples, so I traded all six to them.

After EDGE and new 30% extra bonus, I received $113.40. Not bad. I almost tripled my money. Now I just have to see if the guy who bought my other GS credit will still hold up to his promise to buy anymore GS credit I get dollar for dollar.

It was either that or lose $40 in credit and take $70-ish in cash and still make $25 over what I paid.

anyone have good ideas on getting wii white cases? I got 3 toy stories (3D glasses included) in pristine condition but they came black dvd cases.

Flipped 3 Toy Story to GS for 18.90 each and a Cars for 13 and change and still have another Toy Story.

So spent 45 + tax today and got TMNT Smashup, the Super Street Fighter 4 guide and around 50 dollars in Gamestop credit (19 more once I trade the other Toy Story)

One BBV I was at had Valkyria Chronicles for $14.99, but since I already own it (and purchased it new) and couldn't find anything to pair it with, I decided to leave it. Was the BBV on Ridge Road in Cleveland for anyone interested.
Well I missed out on the Toy Story Mania flip but all in all it was a great sale, I hope they extend it.
I figured I HAD to try and flip SOME games before this sale ended today, since I'm running low on GS credit and I may want Nier and Transformers: War For Cybertron(depending on whether or not they come out with gameplay footage for T:WFC anytime before the June release date).

Otherwise though I have more than enough games to keep me occupied for months to come.:D

Left one copy of TSM at the Darrow/Graham BBV in Cuyahoga Falls, OH and 2x TSM at the one down past Rt. 8 on Graham.
So anyone know what I should do with my copy of Katimari forever? :p
You can get $20 in Best Buy GC or paypal from Dealtree.
So anyone know what I should do with my copy of Katimari forever? :p
I traded mine on goozex I think it gets 450 points

I decided to make another stop to a Blockbuster I had visited a few weeks ago, and finally found a copy of Ratchet and Clank ToD for $9.99, and got FEAR for free. WHOOOOOOOOOO

I didn't go into this deal looking for opportunities to flip for profit.. I already saved a crapload of money, and I have enough games to last me till tons of newer games go down in price
Left one copy of TSM at the Darrow/Graham BBV in Cuyahoga Falls, OH and 2x TSM at the one down past Rt. 8 on Graham.
You left copies of a game that's flippable? :shame:

:lol:Kidding. I left behind about 6-8 copies at my closest store, including four with no manuals. I also left behind a complete Cars: Race-O-Rama, Ice Ace: Dawn Of Dinos and disc only Beatles Rock Band.

But I'm glad I waited till this late in the sale, since I guess whoever cleared out my store earlier must be broke this week cuz I casually strolled in around 7pm and grabbed whatever I wanted with no problems whatsoever.

I still had about $60-ish in real cash I could've used to buy some more copies, but I was shocked when my closest GS took all six from me in one shot.

I was sitting on a bench out near the store taking the stickers all off and sorting them by condition, with the best two going to BB/DT or FYE if I could get there before the value there drops for cash.

With what I bought earlier today: 3 copies of Toy Story Mania and 1 copy of Cars RaceOrama, I traded in 2 Toy Story Manias and Cars RaceOrama and got a 1600 pt card, Disgaea 3, and $11.

So for $19 I got a 1600 pt card, Disgaea 3, and Toy Story Mania. Can't complain. :)
Don't know anything about Wall-E (other than it being a great movie), but Viking is actually a really solid title. Definitely worth $5, imho.
I keep hearing that, but I hated Viking. It seems like I was the only one, but I really could not get into it. With as many crap titles as I play, I feel like I can sit thru most anything. But this and BCFX come to mind as games I just could not play more than ~15 minutes.
Jericho - $50
I guess it's time to unload my copy if I can get $50 for it. ;)

eBay, or play it as another suggested.........

I was pretty busy driving around to BBVs today instead of studying for finals or doing homework assignments.

x6 Beatles Rock Band Wii
x6 Toy Story (traded 1 into GS already for $18.90 because it was disc only).
x1 Cars Race o Rama
x1 Beatles rock band 360
x1 Tinkerbell the lost treasure (please tell me this is the one with the high TIV).
x1 Wii Ski and Snowboard (needed something else $9.99 for my tinkerbell game). :p
x1 Jurrassic the hunted wii ($9.99 at BBV and trades in to GS for $20 with the Read dead/ mario galaxy deal, so $5 BBV-> $20 GS).
x1 Marvel super hero squad
x1 Chaotic shadow warriors.

yes, Thats the right Tinkerbell game. Nice call on picking up Marvel Superhero Squad too. I traded in a copy of Tinkerbell and Marvel Super Hero Squad and got $21 trade in credit at Gamestop after bonuses and Edge. So $10 turned into $21..very nice. Turned Toy Story into about $19.00 in Gamestop credit....so $7.50 into $19..even better.

I only hit up two BBV on my lunchbreak. Picked up a total of 4 copies of Toy Story Mania, and left several more behind. Also got one each of Beatles Rock Band and Cars Race-O-Rama. (I was the one who submitted the Race-o-Rama GS TIV to the other thread this afternoon.) The new 30% bonus deal at GS started at the perfect time, since I didn't have to worry about pairing up 6 games, but only one copy of Toy Story, at each one. Stopped at 1 GS at lunch, and 3 more on the way home to get them all flipped in. Good day for me! Thanks to Hawaiiboy (I think it was) for posting those price drops.

I'm pretty sure it's been documented already, but I can also confirm that Rogue Warrior is still getting $22 at BBV as of this afternoon.

Damn right it is.;) If I had more cash on me, I would've probably picked up the other 4-8 copies I left behind too, but I really pushed it by trading six as it was(after restickering my copies I traded with permission and showing them the receipt, they put them in the back room:cry:).

I gotta say that I'm sorry to see the BOGO go, even though I only picked up a total of 8 games from it in the three weeks or so it ran.
Where are people buying Rogue Warrior and for how much?
Gamestop, for $26.99 in store or $24.99 online, minus Edge/Cag16/etc. Not a great money-making flip, but it served as a more-or-less even money transfer of GS credit to BBV credit for use in the BOGO sale. Now, with the sale ending tonight, it's not as useful.

I saw a ton of Toy Story Manias at every store last week. I went to 2 stores today and one had none and one had 3 with only one complete. I picked up that one.

The other fun story from today was accidentally dropping my phone when I was in a store. It bounced under the table and when I got it, I found a ton of games underneath, including a Wii Mario & Sonic in Beijing for $9.99.

so it was really only useful if you had gamestop credit that you wanted transfered....I see.....pointless for me then. I thought people were buying it dirt cheap and making out at Blockbuster.

I was able to pick up TSM and BRB at my local Blockbuster... I ended up trading them at Gamestop for 32 dollars... Not too bad especially since I also just netted a new Bioshock 2 with a 10 dollar coupon with 32.09.

Did my last runs at BBVs in my area today. Guess the end of the sale took its toll as there wasn't much left. I was shopping for stuff to keep today, not to flip since the 40% trade at GS is done so:

Brutal Legend (finally) - $10
Tomb Raider Anniversary - Free
BulletWitch (PPG) - $7
Def Jam Icon (PPG) - Free
Watchmen: The End is Nigh 1 & 2 - $10
Tenchu Z - Free
Okami (Wii) - $10
Need For Speed ProStreet - Free

Awesome sale, once again. Hope it comes back soon.

I don't know if this is a new drop, but GTA Chinatown Wars (PSP) rang up $14.99 today. I'm going to miss this sale. I was able to get a ton of games I wanted either directly from Blockbuster or by trade credit from Blockbuster games.

Pretty awesome day for me i got....

Beatles Rockband (One for 360 and one for Wii)
and 2 copies of Toy Story Midway Mania (The store had like 8+ o_O, the guy would only let me buy 2 though
wasted $320 bucks. Am getting back $500 from gazelle, and $250 in gs credit. Score!
nice!

Picked up Beatles Rockband and GH Metallica at one store. Went to another store and had Mario Power Tennis and another GH Metallica in hand but left them cuz I got into an argument with the guys working there about them lying right to my face and was asked to leave. Ha, I'm gonna miss this sale.

one of the Toy Story's had 3D glasses with it! I decided to keep one...anyone know if this game is any good? what about the 3d?

I was wondering why everyone was going ape shit for Toy Story ... now I know could have made $40 on the games today
Well, when I saw the mass quantities at nearly every store the last few weeks and noted that it was $19.99 I was hoping for a drop. We just got back from Disneyland and the kids loved the ride. The game is pretty much the same thing without the moving car part ;). My boys played it this evening and seemed to enjoy it.

Damn, you stole my thunder. I found one of these at the very last store I went to tonight. This store was still jam-packed with lots of stuff. I was there on the second or third day of the sale and it barely looked like they sold anything since I was there. In fact, they had some stuff that definitely wasn't there before like 2 x Kingdom Hearts DS!

A few other notable things: World of Zoo for Wii also dropped to $9.99 (like the DS version). I wish hawaiiboy had mentioned the price as I didn't make full use of the sale having paired that up with a $14.99 game (since it was marked that way). Drawn To Life Next Chapter for DS also dropped from $14.99 to $9.99. A lot of stores seemed to have just converted Where The Wild Things Are for PS3. I picked that up and now have a useless 360 copy from earlier in the sale (as I'd rather me and the kids play it on the PS3). There also seemed to be a lot of PS3 Rock Band Metal Track Packs, which again I picked up after having gotten a 360 one a few weeks back. I also seemed to notice more copies of The Bigs 2 for all 3 systems. I also picked up an oddball game I hadn't ever seen at any other store: Wii Ski and Snowboard was $9.99. I may finally have some use for that balance board ;).

it should also be noted that as I was locking in a few trades to Amazon a lot of the prices plummeted. I clicked on Velvet Assassin for $9, then went to add another game and Velvet Assassin dropped to $5! That is pretty evil right there ;). (Gazelle came to the rescue though).

Yeah I have a worthless where the wild things are for 360 also. I wish I was thinking/checked cag more often and could have got drawn to life next chapter ds or that spongebob game. It's tough when you are in the store and don't remember if something is a good deal or not. I should have known the 360 version would be worth less, but oh well, only a few dollars. all in all, this month has been insane. eastore.com, gamestop 40%, BBV B1G1. Thanx Cag for a wild April :) I'm not even disappointed there isn't any bestbuy freebies this month ;p
Peace

Closest thing to a freebie at BB this month is Star Trek Online for $10 for the vanilla version.:D But those online MMO's with monthly fees would only be fun for me if I could switch sides in mid game without having to make an X and a Y account. I'd love to be playing as the 'Federation' one second, then transport over to the enemy ships and blow mine up remotely the next.

Although I saw a release list for Gamestop and the PS3 is getting DC Universe Online(Hero Edition). It's coming out in September(28th). So that may be an option for me, as long as they don't do a monthly fee bs for it.

I think the TIVs for both the PS3 and 360 versions are the same. Its not a bad game for $5. Though I already rented it and beat it.
