Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
I wait a day so I can plat where the wild things are and it drops from 9->4.50 tru tiv. this is after i picked up spiderman web of shadows and it dropped from 12.50->6.25. i keep losing my tiv's. doh!
That's why I only bought stuff I was intending to trade immediately, so I didn't lose out on the TIV by waiting till I completed the game(s).

I mean, it only cost me $5 so keeping it wouldnt be a problem, i feel sorry for those that would pay full price for some of these games tho. but i don't like having (bad) games in my game library. i mean, i will let my kids play and then i play to pad my psn trophies, but i dont want it seen in the future, lol. i got enough slack for the nite my kids were playn hannah montana and then i platted it and almost all my psn friends frazzed me, lol.

anybody know how much Mario Party 8 or Super Mario Bros. Wii go for pre-owned at BBV?

looking to pick these up since my local stores don't have SSBB for sale and no one will do a rental transfer for me :(

Wow, this thread came to a grinding halt .

I'll make a new one some time this weekend - might as well start fresh after the sale. Hopefully once I finish off FF XIII this weekend (I hope) I'm gonna start diving into some of these BBV games and maybe knock out some of the short/easy ones.

Not sure if anyone else noticed this, but my local BBV where they had probably 200 titles available even at the end of the sale don't appear to have any of them left. I need to do a little more investigation, they may have been moved to a shelf rather than a box layout. I just found it odd yesterday when I was trading in Rogue Warrior.

I got a handful of more hours into FF....then I started Nier. WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME?! Atleast I can finally make my own party in final fantasy now =)

I really have to log off of CAG for about a month or two, so I don't find anymore deals to buy stuff from. Having a backlog again completely frickin' sucks. This is especially true when you have games like Demon's Souls, GTA Episodes and Just Cause 2 in your backlog.
Io you platted FFXIII? that's insane/awesome. good luck on your short/easy ones, which are you going for?
Not quite - I need one more (the one that takes forever).

I think I may try Overlord II or Where The Wild Things Are after that (to keep this somewhat on topic since those are BBV B1G1 sale games ;)).

So hold on a sec.. Is this the sale extended? Cuz my BBV had 2 Toy Story Manias sitting on the shelf but I asked the manager and she said the sale had ended

Nope.

So i bought Viva Pinata yesterday ($7) and it would freeze up at a certain point
I even tried installing it and no go...
When i purchased it i asked about the return policy... Her response 30 days with receipt
I went back today to return it and since it was the last copy they told me to pick out another game or get store credit.
I asked if i could get my money back and they told me straight out no...
I didnt want to argue so i just took the credit
I read the receipt and saw no mention of return info...
Should've i been able to get my money back or is it a store credit return policy?

Lol. your lucky you even got store credit. Last time I tried to return something at one store I straight out got denied of being able to get any kind of refund.

I think the reason why stores don't like to do refunds on the B1G1 games is that if you bought two games for $15, then returned them, you'd get $30 back.

Yeah. I can understand the B1G1 refusal refund, but I straight out got refused a refund for a used game that wasn't even apart of the B1G1 promo.

There were a few drops this week but nothing worth mentioning at least at my store. Avatar dropped to $19.99 and everthing else was big titles that dropped $5. I remember army of two 2, bioshock 2.

ALL BLOCKBUSTERS have to TAKE BACK A DEFECTIVE USED GAME within 30 days with receipt, This is fact as i called customer service, and the rep Read it to me directly from the Company rulebook. I only did this Because I bought like 4 games at the 50th street BB, and the employee, who was rather rude, told me I couldnt return anything no matter what, and this was before the B1g1. I told her that I just came from 3 other Blockbusters, and they all told me that I had 30 days, and she told me that THEY didnt know what they were talking about. thats when I called customer service and the rep confirmed what i already knew. so if you have any problems, just call customer service while at the store and put them on the phone with the employee whos giving you a hard time. Blockbuster employees more so than anywhere, i dont know why But they seem to be the least informed about their own policies, pricing etc. and then they usually give attitude and a bunch of BS, you would think to expect more from such a struggling company. but i guess thers my answer, why should the employees care theres only going to be one blockbuster in NYC in like 2 years

That's weird. The employees at every BBV I buy used games at tell me at the time of purchase that I have 30 days to return defective merchandise.
That's weird. The employees at every BBV I buy used games at tell me at the time of purchase that I have 30 days to return defective merchandise.
Same here. However, when I actually went back to return a defective game I was given the runaround, but eventually got the money off of another game I was going to purchase anyway.

They're the only store that has given me such a big hassle for trying to return their crappy defective product.

Yeah i mean i had my receipt and everything... I know its not alot $7 but that money can be used somewhere else... now its just in limbo where i wait untill a good movie or game drops to the price i like... I loathe store credit... :/

I think a lot of it has to do with their financial picture. Giving you money back would in a sense be giving you money they don't have. They would rather give you another game or money off a different game because they don't have to part with cash that they really need. I know we're only talking about $7 but I'm putting this into the company-wide perspective. In general I would think that they would make it burdensome to do a money-back return.

Just to chip in, Overlord II has been known to have shoddy servers. Be warned if you're aiming for the plat. If you're going to go for it though, add me! I picked up a copy as well.
In case anyone was wondering x360 rogue warrior still holding at $22. Just ordered 3 more using GS Dotd.
I read the game was not good at all and seeing the gameplay confirmed it. i hope you're getting it to get credit otherwise uh oh...

it's an easy way to move GS credit to BBV.

If he's ordering 3 copies of an allegedly crappy game to play, I wonder how many copies he'd order of an excellent game.

Answer: 5
In case anyone was wondering x360 rogue warrior still holding at $22. Just ordered 3 more using GS Dotd.
Wow, I thought the TIV finally dropped at BBV because I saw some
iconxbox360.gif
Rogue Warrior with a new $24.99 sale stickers like the

version at BBV.

I sold so many
iconxbox360.gif
Rogue Warriors to so many BBVs that the employees started to recognize me. And some BBV no longer accept this game....some managers told me that they reached their limit.

FYI, RW sells as a convert at BBV for $15. That's the sticker price I saw someone buying it at during the BOGO sale.

my bbv guy laughed when I was trading it in and saying it got the same tiv as god of war 3 and he thought they had more than enough but he still took it :)

Anyone have any trouble trading in Toy Story Mania to Amazon? Mine got rejected. saying it was incomplete. The only item that it didn't have was the 3-D Glasses....

I have a bunch going to eztradein for paypal. What I could find out was the glasses did not come with the game, but could be ordered for free. Anyone else have some experience with this one?

Hah, makes me glad I never sent in my Amazon trades for Toy Story Mania. Hopefully Dealtree is better about it since, yeah, I don't think it was an included item (not to mention nearly $7 higher TiV). Of course NorAm will expect them though .
There is a sticker on the front that says they're not included.
Yeah, well, we all know how NorAm (Amazon's third-party used game trader) is about this stuff - it is no surprise to me they would reject them. I also wasn't sure if the stickers that say "available upon request" weren't put there by BBV to hand out to renters. Either way, though, they don't appear to be standard.

Well i would buy 4 copies of Rogue warrior for 9.99 each and traded them to Blockbuster for the deal where you trade 2 games in and get a new game for 9.99. I got Red Dead Redemption for 32.00 and change. I also got and UFC for the same price.

I received estimate verification emails from ebay eztradein this morning for Toy Story Mania sans 3D glasses so it looks like they are not required by Dealtree. I'll post again when I actually get my paypal payment.

It has been a few weeks so I'm tempted to buy/tradein some RWs again, but I was wondering if it really true that there is a "Store Limit" (not a "Personal Limit"). For example if the store already has 8 or more RWs, can they reject my tradeins?

This question is directed to actually employees.
Thanks
