Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Sale was live at two local stores in Greenville, SC. Picked up Bionic Commando, Fear 2, Spiderman: Web of Shadows and Street Fighter IV for $25+tax. Also was tempted to rebuy Far Cry 2 (a $6.99 clear-case POG), but I just could not get into that game the first time around so I passed. Not too bad of a haul anyway, considering I've been wanted to get SF IV for a while now. The choices were fairly slim. Lots of Wii titles, however.
Is Street IV now $14.99? If so, then I'll definitely pick it up.
Negative here in Southwest Ohio. Lady said that the sale may start later in the week - they plan on pulling 65-70 games and marking them down. Going to be a good sale!
Where in SW Ohio are you? Sale is live at the Loveland, Ohio (suburban Cincinnati) location.

My haul so far:

Red Faction Guerilla (PS3) - $14.99
Super Hero Squad (Wii) the kids will enjoy it despite the horrible reviews - $14.99
Princess and the Frog (DS) - $9.99
Tinkerbell (DS) - $9.99
The other Tinkerbell game for the DS - $9.99
LOZ: Spirit Tracks (mismarked at 14.99, manager override) (should be $19.99)
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 - $14.99
Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter (Wii) - $9.99

For those of you who have already made purchases, would you mind posting the prices of your games? Thanks in advance.

Edited my post to reflect prices.
And this is why I'm single. I'm free to come and go as I please and I can check prices and bargain hunt for as long as I want.;)
i'm not convinced of this, please post a pic of yourself so we can judge for the true reason LOL!

Can anyone confirm whether or not SFIV on the PS3 is $14.99? When I check my stores last week, the game was marked $19.99. Thanks.

Can't confirm, but don't trust the price stickers, at Blockbuster or any other store.

Good thing I decided to check this thread today or I'd have had no idea there was a sale at all. I'll be going out later today.

If anyone has picked up Mario Sluggers,Brawl or Mario and Sonic at the Olympics at BBV B1G1, you can trade it in for $25 towards Assassin Creed 2(which is 29.99 for Gamers day) and get it for 5 dollars. It gets $22 at BBV.

I have only done this with the PS3 version.

Well I just wasted my lunch hour. I visited two BBV's and came up with nothing. Neither one had POG's or a B1G1 sale. I'll check out another store that's on the way home and then the store near my home. Hopefully one or both of them have something.

BOGO confirmed in Greensboro, NC...picked up Ghostbusters (PS3) and Lair (PS3) for $10...there were no signs up but an employee volunteered the information when he noticed me looking around the game section

This isn't hollywood video, guys. It's the same as before. If it's active, it's automatic. And dont just ASK an employee and take their word for gospel and repost their response. It's a waste of everybody's time and fills the thread with inconsistencies.
So wait is the B1G1 sale automatic or not? I don't really want to drive around and waste this gorgeous day if some aren't even running the sale.
If you buy something and the BBV employee pushes total, the computer should automatically take it off.

I'm hoping the CSRs I deal with will be kind enough to group the same priced games together so that I get the most bang for my buck.

In that scenario, you spend a total of, I suppose $20 and come out with a credit of $22. Is that accurate? Is that worth it? Or are we assuming one of those games can be had for under $10?

One of my BBV is also giving 10% more on games traded in. The Employee says that there was an email about it and all BBV should be doing it. He said it has to be manually entered.

Mario Sluggers is supposed to be $9.99. With the b1g1 sale, it comes out to $5 plux tax. If you trade in that game for a new copy of AC2, then you just have to throw in another $5 plus tax. If you trade AC2 in to BBV, then you'll have essentially spent $12+ to get $22 in BBV credit that you can use to get more games to keep or flip.

All of those games can be had for 3.50 - IF you are lucky. They're POG's (clear case) and are clearly marked 6.99.

Only if it is B1G1, correct. Also if you have credit lying around at BBV(like I do ;))it is just one way of moving credit from BBV to GS and back.

If you happen to get 2 of them at 1 BBV you can get them for 10(or 15 since Brawl is 15) and get two assassin creeds at EB which gets 44 credit.

I told the store in Wall, NJ they were having the sale. They said no, and called another store to confirm the no. Then I had them ring it up, and sure enough, sale.

for 40 and tax I got...

Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Transformers 2
Matt Hazard
Dead Rising: CTYD
Rockband 2
Ninja Gaiden Sigma

All with original cases, a few with manuals. Only POG's I saw were a bunch of Soul Calibur 4 360's, and an NCAA 08 Football.

They still have Dead Space, Overlord 2, and a few other decent ones for PS3. Decent stuff for 360 as well -SF4, Quantum of Solace, Red Faction.

One of my BBV is also giving 10% more on games traded in. The Employee says that there was an email about it and all BBV should be doing it. He said it has to be manually entered.

You heard anything about it Hawaii?
any other games that qualify to get AC2 for $5?

3 locations, all crap. Waste of a trip, but I'll do it again next time when this or another deal comes up. I never learn. :)

Jeez, seems like every time BBV or HWV run a deal all I find is that another local store has closed. This one was 2 doors down from a GS/EB location too. R.I.P.

Better question is: has anyone verified that you can get the bonus for AC2 at the $29.99 price (or use this offer in conjunction with any Game-Days sale price)? Or will they only give you the $25 off of the game's regular price? It might be considered part of the "Cannot be combined with any other offer" disclaimer. :whistle2:k
any news for the Houston, TX metro area?
I'm in Cypress and two stores I've gone to have been clueless. It's funny because one of the employees 'tipped me off' a couple of days ago about the sale but the manager today said it had not gone into effect today. I didn't press my luck because he was really cool with me when I dumped all my Fairytale Fights games when BBY had them for free and he always tells me about price drops when I walk in. So, I'll check with him later today. He said he'd make some calls. At another store on Jones rd near Grant, in north Houston, they had an awful selection so I didn't bother but there were no signs to state they had a sale going on.

Just do it! As long as it's not a franchise store, it will be automatic!!! Do not ask and give them the games in matched pairs (same price) only. Have them "total" after each pair. They will be suprised, shocked maybe, and thusly informed.

Some of the more shady (and uninformed) BBV employess will say this as a way to take the opportunity to clear out the good stuff before you return.

BTW - the easiest way to tell if the location is NOT a franchise is if they have a board on the wall near the registers that lists a District Manager along with the store manager, asst manager, etc.

@readthepost: I checked out that blockbuster 2 days ago and you're right. Nothing. I was thinking of checking out the Blockbuster on 125th, have you been to that one yet?

Picked up the following:

Super Smash Bros :wii: 14.99
Drawn To Live: The Next Chapter :wii: 9.99 (0.00)

Professor Layton and The Curious Village :ds: 6.99
Beautiful Katamari :360: 6.99 (0.00)

I've had worse days.

If it's automatic then I gotta head back out. Thanks!

I love "educating" of Blockbuster employees. Today at lunch I hit up two BBusters for the BOGO sale (Dearborn, MI-area). The first store had just one bin for all games. I asked her about the BOGO sale and if she had rec'd any of the POG $6.99 games. She knew nothing on both accounts. I explained to her the details of the sales. She sys, "You sure know a lot. Are you sure you aren't a store manager or employee?" I just laughed and left.

The second store I went to the employees was clueless about the sale. The employee (manager?) insisted that the sale had not started yet. He had no email or "official" announcement of the sale. I told him my intel is usually right on. Then a older guy walks in the store (not dressed like a BBuster employee). The employee says, "Here is the guy to ask! When does the BOGO sale start?" He replies, "Today." The guy was either the "real" store manager or a district guy.

I wanted to tell the employee, "DON'T EVER QUESTION MY INTEL!!!"

I got FF: Crisis Core (PSP) and Eternal Sonata (360) for $10.
Can anyone confirm whether or not SFIV on the PS3 is $14.99? When I check my stores last week, the game was marked $19.99. Thanks.
Yes, I can confirm that the 360 version was $14.99 at one of my local stores (Greenville, SC). Not sure about the PS3 version.

Web of Shadows (PS3) was $14.99. And Bionic Commando (369) was $9.99. As mentioned, I also got one of those clear-case things with Fear 2(360) in it ($6.99), but another BB had the full version marked at $9.99 so it still would be part of the sale.

You should have asked the older BBV guy, why there isn't any signage for the sale.
Really stupid question that I probably know the answer to but just had to ask: does BOGO apply to closing stores?
Lol, went to the BBV closest to my work during lunch (still a good 20 minutes away by subway) only to find out they're closing down and are not participating in the sale. Not many games left, but it wasn't a total loss, however, since their games were marked 40% off. Snagged H.A.W.X for the PS3 ($19.99) for $12.

so anybody know if I bought 2 games @ 9.99 each
could I go to another BBV and 'exchange' the recently bought game that I dont want for a game at another store

I want ironman and rainbow six (both 9.99) but they are at two seperate stores...im wondering how I can get the BOGO to apply to games at two different locations

Picked up
4 games total so far:

Folklore Ps3 $9.99
Banjo and Kazooie Nuts and Bolts 360 $9.99

Final Fantasy XII PS2 $6.99
Star Trek Legacy 360 $6.99

The cashier didn't know about the sale. Then pressed total and it rang up automatically. She was in the store by herself, and was upset her manager didn't tell her. Proceeded to call her manager and ask what was up. I asked if she could ask her manager when the sale is ending, but the manager over the phone didnt know....figured it was worth a try.

I just called and the lady knew nothing about it.

Some great PSP games for sale:

Soul Calibur- $15
Little Big PLanet- $15
NBA 10- $10
