Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I want ironman and rainbow six (both 9.99) but they are at two seperate stores...im wondering how I can get the BOGO to apply to games at two different locations
I don't know if that would work or not, but if it does, the game you're going to replace should be 9.99 as well. I say that, because last time they did the deal here, I went to replace one of my games, and although the one I bought was 14.99, the one I wanted to replace was 9.99. Because of that, they said I had to get a 9.99 or less game to replace that one.

I picked up the following:

Overlord 2(360) $14.99
Ghostbusters (360) $9.99

Mario Super Sluggers: $9.99
Burnout Paradise (360): $9.99

I'll try some other BBV locations later.
I just called and the lady knew nothing about it.

Some great PSP games for sale:

Soul Calibur- $15
Little Big PLanet- $15
NBA 10- $10
Whaaa?

Just picked up-

Store 1-
NCAA Football 10 (360) POG $6.99
Madden 10 (360) POG Free
Eternal Sonata (360) $9.99
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii) Free

Store 2-

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (DS) $9.99
Mario party (DS) Free
Professor layton curious village (DS) $6.99
NCAA Football 10 (360) POG Free
could anyone explain to me what POG are and did anybody pickup anything good in the boston area?
POG = previously owned game, and technically, all of BBV's used stock are "POG"s.

However, people (myself included) are using the term to describe the clear-case, disc-only 360 and Wii games and are currently 6.99 (eligible for the B1G1). The 360 games may be marked 9.99, but they dropped in price last week to 6.99.

Anything in it's original case or a white box will be marked, priced and will ring up differently - even if it is the same game.

Probably not. Their return policy is pretty restrictive. They only allow swapping out for the same title I think and very, very, VERY rarely will allow you to get an actual refund or an exchange.

The only way they would allow that would be if they didn't have any of the same title you're trying to exchange for something differe and ONLY after you lie and say that the title you're trying to exchange is messed up(freezing, skipping, etc).
Just do it! As long as it's not a franchise store, it will be automatic!!! Do not ask and give them the games in matched pairs (same price) only. Have them "total" after each pair. They will be suprised, shocked maybe, and thusly informed.

Some of the more shady (and uninformed) BBV employess will say this as a way to take the opportunity to clear out the good stuff before you return.

BTW - the easiest way to tell if the location is NOT a franchise is if they have a board on the wall near the registers that lists a District Manager along with the store manager, asst manager, etc.
so a board without a district manager is a good sign?
so a board without a district manager is a good sign?
A board without a district manager would lean towards a franchise.

Which is a bad sign.

Yeah I went to a blockbuster and told them they were having a sale. I couldn't find 2 good games, so I just got nomoreheroes and marionsonic olympics. Then I went and told gamestop they were having a sale. lol. 25 off 30 ac2 didn't work for me because they said it was a gamedays sale item so i picked up killzone 2 for $5. Doesn't mean you can't do it, some stores don't even care.

So that answers that question. Rogue Warriors (X360) it is! (GS 24.99 used -10% edge = 22.49 --> $22 BBV credit)

I haven't stepped foot in a BBV in ages so hopefully I find some POGs at the stores. I never do get the CSR to scan like priced games together maybe my luck will change this time.

rogue warrior in store in $26.99. the online price is $24.99. came out to $25.xx.

I've done it tons of times on various 'save $20' or 'bump to $40 TIV when you buy X or Y game' deals. I made probably close to $200 in credit just returning the games and other crap I bought with those promos.

Of course, some(me at times) use gift receipts to return the stuff, but it still probably shows who bought it and where. So anymore I'm just like 'I don't want this' and return it normally.

Just do separate transactions - that ALWAYS works
Just do separate transactions - that ALWAYS works
I was at the other store in town one time, they had more games than ours, and the guy rang it up incorrectly. I didn't even think about it because it's so automatic with me to ring whatever(used games, used dvds, candy deals) in the best way I can. I asked him to fix it, wonder if he ever got talked to since it was on an employee account at the store so I could use my discount. I know our DM always go ballistic when we credit employee accounts.

Kinda wish I waited to leave this morning (or even checked myself) to see that Rogue Warrior held, cuz I spent too much cash. Oh well, here's my haul.

And I won't include in the list cuz io asked us to not cofuse people, but I scored pogs (all 360) of CoD W@W, Halo 3, WWE SvR09, Fallout 3, Grid, Madacascar 2, NHL 2K9, Hitman, & Wall E. Spent too much, but I figure most of it can be made up easy enough with these $3.50 games.

Major haul today; I was very pleased to see the prepacks still sitting, waiting for the b1g1.

Picked up:

$14.99
360-Lost Odyssey, Red Faction Guerrilla, SFIV

Wii- Dirt 2, Mario Power Tennis New Play Control, Boom Blox Bash, Marvel Superhero Squad

DS- Kingdom Hearts 358/2

$9.99
360-Brutal Force, Banjo Kazooie, Star Wars Clone Wars

Wii-Mario & Sonic @ Olympics, Big Brain Academy

and the prepacks, @ $3.49 each-

COD:MW, skate 2, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fable II, Midnight Club: LA, SCIV, GHWT

Other games of interest at 9.99: 360 - Prince of Persia, Dead Space, Onechanbara (disinterest, maybe), EDIT: PS3 - Ratchet and Clank (ToD?)

and at 4.99, Wii Sports

I believe Dirt 2 and Mario and Sonic Olympics are eligible for the GS promo (it's like $25 toward a new game, right?). I don't know what I'd do with the credit - I already have more games than I'll ever be able to play.

Have people really been getting Dirt 2 for Wii to work with Gamestop's $25 promo going on right now? The list only shows the 360 and PS3 versions being eligible... And I already bought 2 copies at Blockbuster. T_T;
I think NHL 2K9 is $1.99 for both 360 and PS3 at Kmart if I'm not mistaken, Gertle.
Thanks iatcg, but there's no KMarts in San Antonio.

Oh really? I only thought I saw it on the list, but haven't actually tried at GS. I also got 2 so I really hope it will work (but now I'm doubting it).

My gamestop knows me and they don't care if I do New returns. I did this alot like Cheapest said with Uncharted 1 bumped to 20 (so I could get another dualshock for cheap and trade in the game from the bundle)and I think it was Bayonetta and Darksiders bumped to 40 in the last few months. I only use credit tho, so I don't know if it would work if you tried to get cash back. My gs knew nothing of the sale and I had to grab one of the fliers off a stand they had. The blockbuster didn't know about the sale either, lol. I love being a CAG!

I think that's what's been going on with the majority of people. I may have to return them now, if I can. Anyone know BBV's return policy when it comes to things like this?

Been waiting for this ever since last fall finally it happened again! None of my local stores have gotten POG's for a long time.

Valid in Columbus, Ohio

First store Westerville:

:ps3:
Rock Band 2
Overlord II

total 16.08

Second store Lewis Center:

:ps3: Rock Band Metal Track Pack
:wii: Are you Smarter than a fifth grader?

:psp:
Star Wars Force Unleashed
God of Wars Chains of Olympus

total 21.33

Third store Powell Road:

Almost picked up Dead rising and Dead Space for :wii:

Checking two more stores tomorrow after class. Still got 43.62 left in BBV cred to use.

Some highlights of games I have seen:

:ps3:Valkyria Chronicles 14.99
:wii: Dead Space Extraction 14.99

I would like to know if Dirt 2 for :wii: is included in that deal cause I have seen at least five copies so far.

They only ever offer exchanges on merchandise from what I've seen(and experienced)and only if you say 'it's defective'. Then you end up with another copy of the same game if they have one.

tl;dr version: NO CASH REFUNDS(from my experiences anyway)!!!

Couple of $14.99 games I found today that could be added to the OP list:

:psp:
Dissidia Final Fantasy

:ps3:
Red Faction Guerrilla

:wii:
Super Paper Mario

I came away with a nice haul myself. I got enough games with good TIVs to flip over to GS and FINALLY get myself a PS3. I'm keeping Dissidia (PSP), Mirror's Edge (PS3) and Boom Blox Bash Party (Wii) for myself. I'm not sure if I want to keep Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party (Wii) or Lego Rock Band (DS). I'll test them out to see if they are worth keeping.

Out of all the games I bought, the only noteworthy price is Lega Rock Band DS for $9.99. Everything else is pretty much known.
If anyone has picked up Mario Sluggers,Brawl or Mario and Sonic at the Olympics at BBV B1G1, you can trade it in for $25 towards Assassin Creed 2(which is 29.99 for Gamers day) and get it for 5 dollars. It gets $22 at BBV.

I have only done this with the PS3 version.
This did not work for me at Gamestop. The computer did not allow both promos to be combined automatically. Specifically, the promo that bumps up Mario Sluggers (or other eligible title) to $25 would not combine with the Gamedays sale promo that brings AC2 down to $29.99 (new). Instead, I just bought a new copy of Rogue Warrior (360) since it still gets $22 at BBV.

Hit up a couple local stores and got a decent haul. Thanks for the heads up everyone.

Hmmm. That kind of sucks that you can't get AC2 to stack the promos. But I will just buy a game with a gift receipt, and then return it for the credit. I especially don't mind this since Gamestop.com banned me for bogus reasons.

Here's what I got today:

:wii: Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter - $9.99
:ds: Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter - $14.99

:ps3: Brutal Legend - $9.99
:ds: Kirby Super Star $9.99

These were all complete in excellent condition, not POGs.

Wait what? How?

Just came back from another BBV and all they had were piles and piles of various music games for all systems, but nothing that interested me. They also had 4 mint copies of Left 4 Dead 2 for $19.99, but I already scored on the GS deal.

Picked up with the B1G1:

Mario: Super Sluggers (Wii) - $9.99
Too Human (360) - $9.99

Saw more things like Mirror's Edge, Brutal Legend, Red Faction: Guerilla, SFIV but I decided to pass for now.

Was hoping that I could trade in for the $25 promo GS was having to get AC2 but if I can find a copy I may trade towards LBP: GOTY

Going from the Hollywood Video sales to this sale is a lot like going from a hot, sex-crazy girl to a girl who ... you're pretty sure is a girl? Right? She has girl parts? So ...

Nothing real exciting going on at the 3 sorta-girl stores I went to. Dead Space Extraction was at one store, but there was nothing worth getting along with it. I saw Brutal Legend, Red Faction Guerrilla, Prince of Persia, and SFIV at other stores, but these are easy to get on goozex ... all meh to me.

The good stuff: Wolverine, Fallout 3, Wet ... they were all 19.99. Maybe there will be a price drop before the sale ends.

Went to two stores today, Totowa and West Caldwell NJ. The Totowa store did not have any good games for any system. The West Caldwell store was loaded with games for all of the systems and the manager even let me know about the sale unlike the other store.

I picked up
Rock Band 2:ps3: 14.99
Spiderman web of shadows:ps3: 14.99
Tiger woods golf 09:wii: 14.99
Guitar hero Metallica pog :ps3:(it had a 14.99 sticker on it and rang up 19.99, but manager still gave it to me for the 14.99)

Fear 2 and Bionic Commando for ps3 were both 9.99 as well
I have a couple store to check tomorrow as well to see what I find.

Well my store were crap. But i did pick up Brutal legend PS3 which made it all worth it. Also got some star ocean psp game that ive never heard of before lmao. Star ocean second evolution. Never heard of it before i just got it cause it was complete. Probably will just trade in into GS.
