Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Dammit, CAG, you'll put me in the poorhouse. I have no self-discipline. I just got 8 new games via credit or super deals! I hit 4 stores today - 1 at lunch which had empty bins (maybe they were late setting up), and 3 after work. Closest store apparently had been picked through early, but I found some stuff. Second store had a lot more PS3 titles, and third store had a bunch of PSP but hardly any PS3. I don't own any Nintendo consoles, but those seem to be pretty well covered everywhere.

What I got: (someone tell me the tags for the little console icons??)
360
Overlord II - 14.99
Lost Odyssey - 14.99
Eternal Sonata - 9.99
Ninety-Nine Nights - 9.99
Brutal Legend - 9.99
Mass Effect (!) - 6.99
Resident Evil 5 - 6.99

PS3
Ninja Gaiden Sigma - 9.99
Folklore - 9.99

PSP
GoW: Chains of Olympus - 9.99

Of course, what I WENT FOR was Prototype and CoD: W@W, but found neither at any store. So, if anything I got looks good to someone who did/can get one of those, let me know.
Did anyone see Little Big Planet PSP for $15? The thread on SD said it was but at the store I went to it was $35 or $25.
I saw it and jumped on it but it rang up for $24.99 and the wouldn't honor the sticker price.
why x3 Gears 2, x2 Mercs 2?

Can't even flip those for much, a loss without bonus. and can't see why you'd keep more than one copy? (unless gifts, if so nvm lol)
Well, they were sitting there all day. It was a rescue mission. ;)

But seriously, even though there's no huge profit in flipping them, there's money to be made in the margins if selling them. That and I always keep extra stuff around for trades and gifts.
That will haunt you for the rest of your life. You will live every day wishing you didnt do that. It will morally drive you crazy. In a year's time, you'll be in a straight jacket in one of those white rooms they show on tv.

JK lol.
it was kinda funny how i'd pick up a pog or a game w/o a manual and then just stroll to the rental section and pull said manual out and act like i was reading it for a reallly really long time and then just insert it into the case that was missing such item LOL LOL LOL!!!

Picked up tonight after making my first trip to 3 BB/GR's (would've been 5 if I didn't get to one till after they closed for the night and the other hadn't been turned into a parent/teacher store...):

360
Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise - $9.99
Tomb Raider: Underworld - $9.99

Wii
Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games - $9.99 (like someone else mentioned happening to them, I was given an Olympic Winter Games disc by mistake)
Mario Super Sluggers - $9.99

DS
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 - $14.99
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time - $9.99

PSP
Soul Calibur Broken Destiny - $14.99
Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier - $9.99

Decent first pass, nothing too sensational. Now I don't know if I want to keep the Olympic Winter Games instead of giving it to Gamestop...hmm. Will give it a test drive since that promo lasts till 4/25.

I just wanted to say this is a very typical selection for this sale. I saw nearly all of those same games at at least 3 or 4 stores today. Throw in Overlord II (360/PS3), Star Wars Republic Heroes (Wii/360), Transformers Revenge of the Fallen (PS3/360/DS), Lego Rock Band DS, SimAnimals (Wii/DS), G-Force (Wii/PS3), and Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure DS and that probably covers about 50-75% of the total selection!

totally went over limit today...sigh..all but one for personal collection though

PS3
Mercenaries 2 - 9.99
Madagascar 2 - 9.99

bough 2 Kingdom hearts because I've got nothing else to pair it with and will be looking to sell one. Otherwise, as usual I did not buy 2 of the same game to be fair to others. I am still looking for Mario Slugger to do the Gamestop thing but I must resist going to another BBV with a risk of buying even more games...

I went in the morning, dumb broads told me they weren't doing the sale. I asked to go ahead and total it up and tell me what it would be. She looks at me after thinking about it and says, "about 25 plus tax."

... no fuck, I can add 10 and 15 together. Actually, it's 26.48, I work retail...

but alas I withheld my comments and left. I returned at night, and they had the little paper sign printed out for the sale, and all 4 games I was going to buy were still there thankfully.

I nabbed:

Call of Duty 4 (14.99)
Bionic Commando (9.99)
Brutal Legend (9.99)
Folklore (9.99)

All PS3. I saw Smash Bros at another BBV and almost bought it, just because $15 is a damn good deal for such a good, valuable game (already own it), but I held back.

Wish I didn't own so many of the other great games that were on sale already. There's still some stuff I wish they had, but the BBV's around here always have next-to-nothing when it comes to video games on sale. GameStop is the king of southeast Michigan.

Went to two Blockbusters, both after work. First store had the sale, second was a bust. I got:

Ratchet and Clank: Future Tools of Destruction ($9.99)
Folklore ($9.99)
Fear 2 ($14.99)
Trauma Center: Second Opinion ($9.99)

I also found a few copies of Pokemon Platinum and Scribblenauts for $14.99; Prince of Persia 360 for $9.99.

The second Blockbuster I went to had three guys clean the bin and had a stack of about thirty to forty 360 games, then the guy at the counter said they weren't having the BOGO and the guys left the games. I didn't get a chance to check them as the guy just left them behind the counter.
I just wanted to say this is a very typical selection for this sale. I saw nearly all of those same games at at least 3 or 4 stores today. Throw in Overlord II (360/PS3), Star Wars Republic Heroes (Wii/360), Transformers Revenge of the Fallen (PS3/360/DS), Lego Rock Band DS, SimAnimals (Wii/DS), G-Force (Wii/PS3), and Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure DS and that probably covers about 50-75% of the total selection!
yup, reason why is that ALL of those titles were on last weeks transfer from rental to PPG, so I would definitely expect those titles to be at all corporate stores.

I noticed yesterday that they were brining out new signage, totally forgot about B1G1. Guess i'll be making another trip out tomorrow after work

Random question for Akron, OH area CAGs: is the blockbuster at Darrow and Graham in Cuyahoga Falls closing/closed? It's no longer listed on their site, so that's why I'm asking before driving over.

I'm not in OH but that is a clue. Let me guess, you called and no answer, right?

I went in today and picked up:

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days- $15
Dissidia Final Fantasy- $15
Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PSP)- $5
Dirt (360)- $5
Bully Scholarship Edition- $10
Folklore- $10
Dirt 2 x 2- $15 each

So I spent about $52 after tax, and flipped them all to Gamestop for $92.18. :D I ran into a bit of a bump in the road, though.

One of the games I originally bought at BBV was Pokemon: Explorers of Sky for the miraculous price of $6.99- it seemed too good to be true. After I drove to Gamestop to trade in the games I had (thankfully only a couple minutes away), the guy pointed out to me that they had given me Pokemon: Explorers of Darkness instead. So I drove the couple of minutes back to get my copy of EoS. However, when I showed them they had given me the wrong game and handed them my receipt, they pointed it out that it showed they had sold me Explorers of Darkness. At first I figured someone had just mixed up the stickers- it did just say "Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorer" on it, after all. But once they went through their games, they only came across one rental copy of Explorers of Sky that they couldn't sell to me. So what happened?

Apparently one of the employees had put the wrong cover art in the box. Needless to say, this was a huge "FFFFFFFFFFF-" moment. I explained that I already had the game, though, and asked what I could about it, and the employees were surprisingly cool about it. The guy took the game and asked if I wanted to look to see if there was anything else I wanted, so I went and found Dirt for 360, and picked up Bully and Folklore (which I had previously passed on.) He gave me Dirt for free (which I didn't have a problem with, considering it would have been $5 with my SW:BFII purchase), and I bought the other two games and left. The only other problem I had with my visit was that the Battlefront II I got's case was cracked, so I got slapped with a refurb fee at Gamestop. Otherwise, I'm really happy with my haul, and I'm really happy with the employees' understanding.

tl;dr- Make sure you get the right games and check their condition before you buy them.
No. I just discovered it at 2AM. They would be closed regardless at that time in the morning.
I'm inside a Blockbuster right now and they're having an awesome sale. Buy 0 Get All Free? YMMV of course.

Is that with the 5 finger discount? :p

10 fingers and a shopping cart. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to break into a Gamestop and trade the games in.

I would dump all of left over BB credit to flip to gamestop on this much not much good promotions going on! Only worthwhile title I see on here is Mario and Sonic which can be used for $25 cr to GS

Just FYI, I'm a GameStop employee, and we don't consider game cases when it comes to trades. They aren't even required to get full value for games. All that matters is disc condition, so I'm guessing that Battlefront II disc was a little rough.

If they told you it was because of the case that's a load and you should talk to the manager/district manager and force that store to get educated.

I made a minor update to the list in the OP - mostly from stuff I saw or bought myself on Tuesday. I'll comb through the posts some time tomorrow and make a more thorough update (of the $14.99 and under games that is).

I tried to buy LBP psp but it rang up at $24.99. I ended getting Drawn to Life: NC along with FF Dissidia (both $14.99). At another BB, I found Mario Super Sluggers and Mario & Sonic at the Olympics for $9.99 each. I traded them in to GS to build up some credit.

Three out of the four BBVs that I checked had a good amount of games in stock. I didn't buy anything else since I already own most of the games in the b1g1 price range. I did cringe at seeing games like Banjo Kazooie for $9.99 since I bought them at a higher price at GS. Atleast, I bought those games using store credit so it wasn't that bad.

to the fellow CAG's that got dirt 2 was it for 360 or ps3 cause i couldnt tell in some of the posts what system it was for

thanks

I don't think it's PS3. I scanned a :ps3:Dirt 2 and it came up $29.99.
IIRC, Dirt 2 for 360 is also $29.99. It's the Wii version that is $14.99 (?).
Yeah, that sounds right.

Does anybody know how long this sale is going on for? While I would like to pick up a couple games, I was forced to buy a new laptop last night (current one's hard drive died) so money's tight until my next pay check.

:lol: Let's see if you're this helpful once people start demanding Media Mail shipping for no more than $2 a game(which doesn't even account for a $1 mailer unless you have one or more already), no Delivery Confirmation # n they won't waiver on that.;)

$3 is fine for shipping since it's $1.06 for a mailer after tax where I am, and it's $1.92 through paypal to ship a normal game via First Class w/DC. Then again, you are still in the stone age without paypal or a cell phone. :p

Atleast until next monday

Man, I just hopped a bunch of Blockbusters last week looking for cheap games and now they do this? Lame.

Oh well, I guess I'll have to try some more today while I'm out.

Meh. I rarely buy more mailers than I need for the deals I have at hand and most times I include the price for one in the shipping cost unless I'm shipping Priority Mail flat rate box. But lately I have some extra game sized ones from various other deals(GoHastings, Gamefly games, etc), so I've been using those up even when mailing PM, since it pads the game inside the mailer.

I bought a pack of about 5-10 from one of the major chains when I first started trading/selling on CAG and it took forfuckinever to get rid of those 5-10. I spent way too much on them as well. But I have done the 'cost+shipping' thing before like you, but wait and see....you'll get someone very unbearable.

I had one guy the one time who out and out demanded I send stuff Media Mail with NO DC#, yet first class shipping was just .40 more. As for the no DC thing, I would never do that ever again. It's really for both people's peace of mind, since you can track and make sure it arrived.

selection was pretty skimp...

super mario sluggers + rainbow six vegas 2 for 11.xx should net me just enough for a 30$ game after using the current gs promos
