Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Kingdom Hearts for DS is $14.99 and flips to Amazon for $19. I did 2 of those for $23 profit.

You just have to be creative and read the gamestop trade-in thread / use the amazon/gamestop trade-in trackers. I like to make it as complicated as possible so I can feel like I accomplished something.
$3 is fine for shipping since it's $1.06 for a mailer after tax where I am, and it's $1.92 through paypal to ship a normal game via First Class w/DC. Then again, you are still in the stone age without paypal or a cell phone. :p
Who pays $1.06 for mailers? Just reuse them, or order in bulk online, or buy them from Wal-Mart. They should only be about 50 cents at Wal-Mart.

edit: Also delivery confirmation is like 17 cents if you print postage from PayPal multi-order shipping, and then you don't have to wait in line at the post office, like a pro!

What is the deal with X360 Beautiful Katamari? I got it from BBV with another $6.99 game and now I checked on ebay and it's going for more than $20. I was going to trade it in @GS for $12.75 (with 40% plus 10% edge), but now maybe Ebaying is the way to go. BTW, I never sold anything on ebay before. Any thoughts?

Don't know what the sudden interest is, but I love how it is listed as "rare" when there were 30 sold in the last two weeks and 30 more for sale currently. Should be listed not as "rare", but "inexplicably expensive". :D

I think it's pretty tough to find new and has amazingly been able to hold it's value despite being one of the worst entries in the series (damn hot/cold level .. grrrrrr).

When I turned my roughed up BBV copy into Gamestop (totally sun-bleached with a scratchy disk and messed up booklet) the girl working there started having a minor stroke at the sight of it.

Shelf at my closest BBV was sparse. Was able to pair :wii: super paper mario & :ps3: red faction guerilla for 14.99 + tax. Saw a :ps3: warhawk for 6.99 but decided against it. I got excited to find the :wii: mario and sonic but it was the winter olympics at 29.99 so false hope. Not a bad deal on my find for keeping.

I don't think it is "rare" as much as it is just "uncommon"...it has been a bit hard to find for some time now. I don't know how to explain it though. I can't imagine there is that high of a demand for it. I'd definitely sell it on eBay though.

Just made my day at the closest BBV that some how managed to have POG's for the first time ever.

Modern Warfare (x2)
Elder Scrolls Oblivion
GTA 4
Devil May Cry 4
Soul Calibur 4

For less than 25 dollars :) Happy days

I had so many mailers from things shipped to me (mostly from goozex) that I was forced to get rid of 80% of them because they were becoming a fire hazard, and the pile only kept growing. :)

Went into my Blockbuster, had a bunch of POG's out, also they were clearing out the PSP racks and putting what they have on sale, so...

I pick up Dissidia Final Fantasy PSP for $14.99, looked like it never been played. My free game was Fallout 3 X360 POG for only $6.99. Ask the manager if he had a extra box with the art and book and he did.

Might return up there, they had a ton of Fable 2's, and some other randoms like Prince of Persia PS3, Devil May Cry 4 360, Fallout 3 360, Army of Two 360, Halo 3 360 and Gears of War 360. 2 Games for $10 isn't bad, even if the chance of me playing them often is slim.....god my backlog :(

They also had Dynasty Warriors 6 360 for $6.99 and that's with the art/manual....so that be a price drop.

Picked up tons of great games, FF Dissida for 14.99, Kingdom Hearts DS for 14.99, etc. Then I went to a closing store and they had two sealed original Game Boy games. Almost 20 years old. Bizarre! 29.99 a piece though, then 40% off. I did pick up one called Rolan's Quest, hopefully that one was a good find for sealed. TMNT: Fall of the Foot Clan was the other one, but it's common so I didn't know if it was worth picking up for 18 bucks.

Also got Dark Void on price mistake for 6.99, with a free copy of Beautiful Katamari. :D

looks like you found the one bezerker found, tho he got most of the good sealed retro games :whistle2:D

I picked up:

PS3
------
Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction $9.99
Dark Legends Untold (or is it Untold Legends of Dark...IDK!) $9.99
Lair $9.99

Wii
------
Go Diego Go Rescue Safari $9.99
Mario Super Sluggers $9.99

Xbox 360
------------
Viva Pinata $6.99

So with B1G1 free, I got three games at $9.99 and the rest free...total was $32 with tax!

I visited another BBV that was liquidating. Very picked over except two aisles of Wii gamer graffix stickers (for decorating your Wii). How weird. And then one more that had some of the same games marked up.

Lots of BBV are closed and more are closing. Not too many more places to stop and look locally.
$3 is fine for shipping since it's $1.06 for a mailer after tax where I am, and it's $1.92 through paypal to ship a normal game via First Class w/DC. Then again, you are still in the stone age without paypal or a cell phone. :p
You are correct and I'm staying that way. Thanks.;)

See above. I don't do Paypal because of two reasons 1) I hate being at the whim of some computer to properly assess my payments I have pending in or out(though for some reason I'm ok with using my credit/debit card online to buy shit) and 2)I don't want to have to keep repeating 'pay the fees for the transaction in addition to the total I mentioned for the item and shipping' since I'm not going to be the one paying the damn fees for taking a payment via Paypal.

Since I deal only in cash or USPS MO's, I get my payment and can cash it at the PO when I'm going there. Unlike many on here, I do actually prefer the social interaction at the post office.

As for buying mailers in bulk, see one of my prior posts. I was stuck with 5-6 out of a 10 pack for over six months or so when I had a drought of deals. I'd rather have that cash in my pocket than junk laying around the house. I also hate WalMart with a passion, so unless it's a gift that came from there, I try not to shop there, especially since they don't know what the word CLEARANCE means(.02 off of MSRP is not clearance).

And in order to print postage, I would need a printer first and I'm too f'n cheap to spring for one, especially since I don't wanna pay the outlandish prices for replacement ink carts.

Picked up:
Super Smash Bros. Brawl - $14.99
Mario and Sonic at the Olympics - Free

Traded to Gamestop:
SSBB - $17.40 (receipt says $14.50 w/ a 2.90 bonus applied?)
Olympics - $25 (promo towards new $29.99+ game - Heavy Rain)

Balance on Heavy Rain was $21.

So spent around $36 for Heavy Rain. Pretty happy with that.

FYI: Other Base TIV's @ GS (all PS3):
Ghostbusters - $6
Motorstorm PR - $9.50
Madagascar Kartz - $6.25
Monsters vs. Aliens - $6.25

Im with you on the printer, but I went and bought one. They are made to be obsolete anyways, when the ink runs out trade in the ink cart for some piddly $$ and the printer for a new and better one for the cost of new ink.

Are all Blockbusters converting their PSP rentals? I was scoping out a lot of portable titles I'd be interested in, but they hadn't been converted yesterday.

Way off topic, but where do you trade in ink cartridges?

I had something strange happen to me. I went in and saw Diddy Kong Racing marked with a "Pre-Viewed" sticker for $9.99. I figured I try to pick it up along with Lego Rock Band, Boom Blox Bash Party, and Soul Calibur Broken Destiny. She ended up scanning Soul Calibur with Lego Rock Band which I wasn't too pleased with. However, when she scanned Boom Blox with Diddy Kong Racing, DKR rung up for $19.99 but made it the free game. I was kind of surprised and it took me a while to process it.

I did notice the receipt said DKR was a credit rather than L:RB's coupon.

I picked up the Following today:

Wii:
Okami (9.99) - Free
Pikmin (9.99)
Marvel SuperHero Squad (14.99)
Bomberman Land (14.99) - Free

PS3:
Brutal Legend (9.99)
Bolt (9.99) - Free
Red Faction: Guerrilla (14.99)
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (14.99) - Free

I don't have too many stores within what I consider to be a worth while driving distance, so of course the one store that is close to me I decided to finally hit today and literally as I'm walking in there is a giant douche buying no fewer then 60 games. I never have a problem with people flipping stuff, but seriously based on the games I've seen posted here, 90% or more of these will only get you a real profit on ebay or craigslist. If this person trades to GS or Amazon they may turn their $300 plus dollars into $350. Anyway, enough ranting, just thought I'd say that if the person who raided the Mainville, OH Blockbuster reads this, you sir are a Grade A, Douche!!!

Yea, I found that this sale wasn't great for flipping as past ones have been. Just blew the rest of my credit on a couple of items for myself:

Farcry 2 14.99
Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 14.99
Afro Samurai 9.99
PGR 4 9.99
Condemned 2 6.99
Dirt 4.99

All 360. Still cheaper than I could get anywhere else and mostly intact with only a missing manual for Farcry 2.

My haul for today from one store:

Dublin Sawmill Location 1

:wii: Boom Blox Bash Party
:ps3: The Godfather - The Don's Edition

:ds: Spyro Dawn of the Dragon
:wii: Drawn to Life

:psp: Secret Agent Clank
Store had no other 6.99 games :(

total 34.13

I found Mario Super Sluggers and Mario and Sonic at the Olympics Games both for 10$ each. They also qualifiy for the 25$ trade in offer that Gamestop is doing so im probably gonna be trading both of them in.
Many times, it not the profit that counts but transfer of credit.
For me it's always about 'how many times over what I paid am I making?'. If I'm not making at least 2-3x what I paid, then it's not a good flip to me, since Blockbuster is pretty useless for buying new games with cheap credit anymore. Their TIV's suck 90% of the time, they don't do any 'extra credit' promos at all and even if I could buy some used games from them most are stuff I've already had or is still overpriced compared to elsewhere.

Let's see I got...

XBox 360:
Eternal Sonata
Spider-man: Web of Shadows
Virtua Fighter 5
Watchmen: Parts 1 and 2
Far Cry 2
Fight Night Round 4
Just Cause
Saints Row 2
Civilization Revolution
Turok
Bad Company

Wii:
Boom Blox

Here's a couple games I came across that I didn't see on the list(dunno if they were trade-ins, but figured I'd mention them):

-Yakuza 2 $10
-Megaman Starforce 3 (Red and Blue Versions) $10
-Monster Madness: Grave Danger Ed. $6

Pretty good haul today, very happy with what I got.

All PS3 Games
Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway $9.99
Far Cry 2 $9.99
Lair $9.99
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction $9.99
Red Faction Guerrilla $14.99
The Bigs 2 $14.99
Turok $9.99
Ultimate Alliance $9.99

Also the guy gave me the disc for Ultimate Alliance 2 by mistake, awesome.
...Also the guy gave me the disc for Ultimate Alliance 2 by mistake, awesome.
From what I hear, you have got the raw end of that deal. :)

Also, any chance of seeing Mass Effect under $14.99. I really need to pick that up again to finish it.
Fight Night Round 4 qualifies for B1G1? It was listed at $19.99 at my store.
$9.99 Was the price on mine before the disc only discount was added.

Went to 4 locations today. All with horrible selections. One older guy came in and hoarded before I got a chance to. He was holding a stack of games for each console, didn't bother to check what he grabbed. I assume this guy was from slickdeals or something, I can't imagine a CAG being that old hoarding all those games (he looked 45+). Found little big planet for the PSP, but rang up 24.99.

I'm hating myself right now as I saw Mario Super Sluggers, Mario and Sonics at the Olympics, and Brawl all yesterday and didn't pick them up not knowing it had $25 trade in towards a new game at GS. FML

Totally agree on flipping prices. I've learned that it's simply not worth it to buy/resell a game unless you can make at least 2x the purchase price. Online commissions, shipping costs and driving to the post office usually kill flips for me.
