Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Totally agree on flipping prices. I've learned that it's simply not worth it to buy/resell a game unless you can make at least 2x the purchase price. Online commissions, shipping costs and driving to the post office usually kill flips for me.
that's why there is Goozex, using shipping via paypal you don't even need to drive to the post office, you must not know the true methods to being a cheapass! ;)
What is the deal with X360 Beautiful Katamari? I got it from BBV with another $6.99 game and now I checked on ebay and it's going for more than $20. I was going to trade it in @GS for $12.75 (with 40% plus 10% edge), but now maybe Ebaying is the way to go. BTW, I never sold anything on ebay before. Any thoughts?

Don't know what the sudden interest is, but I love how it is listed as "rare" when there were 30 sold in the last two weeks and 30 more for sale currently. Should be listed not as "rare", but "inexplicably expensive". :D
Nothing "sudden" about it. BK has been semi-valuable for about 2 years now. They are long long gone from any BBV around here though.
Are all Blockbusters converting their PSP rentals? I was scoping out a lot of portable titles I'd be interested in, but they hadn't been converted yesterday.
Someone said that but I'd say it isn't the case across all stores. I didn't find much PSP stuff because either they were still renting them or they converted them but for some reason shipped them off to other stores. The latter was the case at one of the bigger stores that otherwise had an awesome selection (only place I saw KH DS for example). This was the first store I hit up yesterday morning because I knew they had a lot of stuff. They were the only store out of 5 or so that had any of the newer prepacks (no Wii though, just Fallout 3, GTA IV, CoD WaW, etc).

Funny thing - at this first store they asked my name to look up my account and I told them not to bother since I was just buying. But they insisted so I said why not... Well, it turns out I had a $22 credit sitting on the account at this store. I had no idea - though I sort of vaguely remember one of my last trades a few months back was at this store and I think their card scanner wasn't working so they told me to come back later to get my credit on my value card. Clearly, I had completely forgotten about it. So that was nice - it paid for the 4 prepacks + a couple of $9.99 games. I also burned up the rest of my Value Card. I had about $80 left total including the store credit - it is long gone now ;).

Picked up Mario & Sonic at the olympic games ($9.99) and Beautiful Katamari ($6.99). I was kind of bothered that I didn't maximize the B1G1 but hey whatev.

I picked up for the :Wii: Marvel Super Hero Squad ($14.99) and Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings ($9.99). Not a great selection over all.

Yeah the Wii selection at the 3 stores I went to was pretty sad. I ended up grabbing Tony Hawk Downhill jam for me and picked up Sims Kingdom (or something like that) for my wife for $10. I was really wanting to find a copy of Mario & Sonic Olympic.
Went to 4 locations today. All with horrible selections. One older guy came in and hoarded before I got a chance to. He was holding a stack of games for each console, didn't bother to check what he grabbed. I assume this guy was from slickdeals or something, I can't imagine a CAG being that old hoarding all those games (he looked 45+). Found little big planet for the PSP, but rang up 24.99.

I'm hating myself right now as I saw Mario Super Sluggers, Mario and Sonics at the Olympics, and Brawl all yesterday and didn't pick them up not knowing it had $25 trade in towards a new game at GS. FML
maybe you could have made some small talk to see if he would share. if not, you could have knocked all the games out of his hands. do they impose limits on resellers at BBV?

BBV is certainly at the point where they are just happy to take money from anyone willing to give it to them.

Yesterday I went to Blockbuster after work and found a bunch of cheap games and POGs(mostly old sports games).

I bought X-blades(9.99) and Prince of Persia(9.99) for the 360.

As I was being rung up, the manger was talking to another employee about getting all the games out for the sale. It looked like the had about 50 more used games to put on the shelf, but didn't plan to do it until today. Planning on making another trip there after work. Hoping to get COD:wow!!

Some Prices

Trauma Center Second Eval Wii - 9.99
Madagascar Kartz Wii - 9.99

Well that freaking sucks. I drove for 21 miles to the blockbuster and I get there and I didnt see any signs about the sale. So I proceeded to the front desk and ask the lady where the used games are that qualify for the B1G1 , she says " This store isnt based off of the corporate office so there isnt any sales going on at the moment"

FML !!!

Yes, get a DS for cripes sake! Those are some good pickups. And yes, Lock's Quest is an awesome game and that is an incredible price. I remember it was $9.99 during the last B1G1 and for the most part disappeared then. It was lucky you found one now. I paid $20 for it when it first dropped to that price at GS. I wish I had waited till the last BBV B1G1 at least but I did play it 95% of the way through (should finish it) and it is an awesome game.
I saw that yesterday and I went 'huh'. It's probably someone pretending to be Shrike, since I don't think a mod from CAG would take the deal from here to post there.
There's no way that is the real Shrike unless he's gone rogue ;).
Unfortunately, No SUPER PAPER MARIO WII or OVERLORD 2 PS3 for me. If anybody finds an extra pair of those.... feel free to msg me ^_^
I wouldn't expect to find Super Paper Mario, but Overlord II seems fairly common. I'd keep looking. That was my major goal for a "keeper" game as well (as opposed to stuff I got for the kids or gifts or trade-ins). It seems like every BBV converted that just recently from rental.

Does anyone know if Blockbuster can check if they have certain used games in stock over the phone? I can't currently check because the phone is tied up (for awhile..)

I really want to snag Eternal Sonata and Folklore.

I hit three up yesterday after work and then went back around today... as one store had a stack behind the counter they were "repricing". So I knew more would be out.

So I got

PS3:
Far Cry 2 - $5
Ratchet & Clank TOD - $5
Brutal Legend - $5

Wii:

We Wki - $5
Elebits - $5 (was marked $6.99 but matched with a 9.99 game)
Mushroom Men - $5
Overlord Dark Legend - $5
Boom Blox - $5
Tenchu - $5
Super Smash Bros - $7.50
Bomberman Land - $7.50

DS:

Mario Party DS - $5

All for the grand total of $65 plus tax. I am happy with that. Most stores new and signs were up, one did not get the memo and didnt have anything that great.
Does anyone know if Blockbuster can check if they have certain used games in stock over the phone? I can't currently check because the phone is tied up (for awhile..)

I really want to snag Eternal Sonata and Folklore.
Yes they can check local inventory over the phone, I have done it before. I'm not sure if it varies by area.... but this was my experience in the past, might do it again this time.

might also depend on who you get working there on how helpful they'll be
I had something strange happen to me. I went in and saw Diddy Kong Racing marked with a "Pre-Viewed" sticker for $9.99. I figured I try to pick it up along with Lego Rock Band, Boom Blox Bash Party, and Soul Calibur Broken Destiny. She ended up scanning Soul Calibur with Lego Rock Band which I wasn't too pleased with. However, when she scanned Boom Blox with Diddy Kong Racing, DKR rung up for $19.99 but made it the free game. I was kind of surprised and it took me a while to process it.

I did notice the receipt said DKR was a credit rather than L:RB's coupon.
i was checking out today and the guy was training a new person... he said whatever game is rung up second it will make free so watch how you scan it..... Given what you just said, there is obviously a serious issue in their checkout system. I am surprised they have not fixed that given the opportunity it leaves open.....

Not true - I have a receipt with a $4.99 and $6.99 game rung up (in that order) and $4.99 was taken off. In the post you quoted he said it was listed as a credit rather than "Coupon". That means the cashier overrode it manually.

Nabbed

:360:
Condemned 2 - $6.99
The Club - Free
Quantum of Solace - $9.99
Terminator Salvation - Free

They had a LOT more for all systems, but I had played or at least owned a majority of them already (for 360, that is). This was at the Wooster, OH location. I'm heading to the Massillon, OH one tomorrow or Friday.
Good god reading about this deals makes me sad, I've drove to like 5 houston, tx location and fucking nothing.
That sucks. Almost every BBV I've been to has had a ton of stock. I just own most of the games already and don't want to buy the PS3 versions of 360 titles I own. I did grab a few today and will be headed out later to check a couple more stores. Only found a couple titles I didn't own that were complete

Picked up:
:psp:Dissidia $14.99
:360:G-Force $14.99

:wii:Pikmin $9.99
:360:Madagascar 2 $9.99
:ps3:Untold Legends $9.99
:ps3:Gundam: Crossfire $9.99

Going back out later for:
:360:Onechanbara
:psp:God of War Chains of Olympus
:ps3:Monster Madness Grave Danger
:psp:Secret Agent Clank

Still looking for Ratchet & Clank and Folklore. I've seen just about everything else people have said they picked up. Found a complete Shadow of the Colossus at one store but I'll never play it so I left it for someone else.

Picked up:

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (DS): $14.99
Boom Blox Bash Party (Wii): $14.99/FREE

They also had Mario & Sonic Olympics which I was going to match with Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise, but the Mario & Sonic disc was scratched to hell. I was planning to trade it to Gamestop for the $25 off $39.99 deal or whatever it is, but it was so badly scratched up I was worried they might reject it. I may go back later and see if I can find another $9.99 title to match Viva up with, though. Everything was complete except Mario & Sonic.

They had quite a few games and most were complete, which surprised me. There's another Blockbuster I'm going to check out later tonight or tomorrow.

:360: Onechanbara (this is the reason I went)
:360: Bionic Commando

10$ yay but I would have loved if they had Eternal Sonata =(

I would have gotten The force Unleashed instead of Bionic Commando but it didn't have a case or manual...
Scan first, ask questions later.
I tried buying Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics for the Wii, but it didn't ring up as $9.99:(
That's because it's not the Winter Olympics that's 9.99, it's the other Mario and sonic Olympics game.

It sucks only have one nearby, which had virtually nothing of interest. Only thing I found was the newer Boom Blox, but ended up passing because I couldn't find another decent 14.99 to pair it with.

I snagged today:

Boom Boom Blox
Mario Super Sluggers
Pikmin
Sims Party

Total paid $20.

I saw Super Mario Smash Bros on Wii for $15. Could not find anything else for $15 though. Another store had Animal Crossings Wii for $15 but no Smash Bros. :(

Went tonite and scored:
Wii:
Drawn to Life (Priced at 9.99) FREE
No More Heros (Priced at 9.99) FREE
Mario Strikers (Priced at $14.99)
Dead Space: Extraction (Priced at $14.99)

360:
Kingdom Under Fire (Priced at $9.99)
Cars Mater National (Priced at $6.99) FREE

all for $43.17

In hindsight I could have gotten them cheaper had I made two separate purchases pairing each $14.99 together since they only took the 3 lowest priced free.

Has anyone found any decent games to trade in to BBV from GS yet? Just curious as I only have a few bucks left at BBV but have some GS credit I wouldn't mind using for this.

Anyone find a Fire Emblem Wii lately? How much is it now? I saw it at one of my stores for $19.99 and when I asked for a price check the guy wouldn't do it saying it is priced how it is marked.

Went back again today and picked up:

Red Faction (360) 14.99
Mass Effect (360) 9.99

Already have ME but figured I can trade or sell it for $10+ making my RF around $5.

I would've said dirt 2, but you wanted GS->BBV right?

The 2 blockbusters near me were stacked! It is like i'm the only one in my area that knows about it!
Remember to split up your orders to order $9 games in pairs and $14.99 games in pairs, even if it means leaving the store and coming back later.

My booty (ps3 all):

mirror's edge + dead space for $10
fear 2 + need for speed undercover for $10
red alert 3 + killzone 2 for $15

i may go back for the following (ps3 all):
resident evil 5 + silent hill homecoming for $15
I saw Dirt 2 for PS3 and XBX360 but not at 14.99, so are people buying the WII one or are they getting the price match?
i doubt people are getting dirt 2 (ps3) for $14.99. this game has been on my radar b/c it is the only racing game i want before gt 5. it is $40-45 new everywhere i've searched.

Fond memories of traveling around the area last summer to scour local BBVs for this sale, but now I am out of the area and there is only one BBV here.

I got Dirt 2 14.99 for 360, to flip LOL. But yea, when the guy rang it up, it came up 29.99 but he adjusted it to the sticker price.

Funny thing is, i went to another BBV, they had Dirt 2 for 360 at diff. prices. Some 34.99 some 29.99. They had a wii one 14.99, and i took both to the register, and asked how come one is 14.99 and one is 29.99, he rang em up and he laughed, and he was like "Probably cause the wii one sucked"

Still $19.99 unfortunately. Had one scanned today.

Might want to swing by your sears. They have it for 19.99 which is what I paid for it. But crap if it were 14.99 that would make it ~8 after tax paired with another 14.99 game.
