Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I saw like 3-4 copies of that Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter for Wii which gets about 9-10 bucks at GS, Amazon, Toysrus.

ya, i found 2 and 1 copy of Madden 10 (360) pog. The NCAA's got me $21 each and Madden was $25.xx after 50% bump. Thank u BBV!
I saw an NCAA Football 10 a few weeks ago, along with Tekken 6, Bayonetta (all 360), and Darksiders (PS3).
Damn, would like to find any of those 4 games.....

i got $25.87 for Madden 10 (360) at GS after 50% bump. Not bad for $3.50
I have to disagree with you. The problem is BBV, not that guy. Well, OK, it's both. BBV's system is designed to screw the buyer. If they ring all 4 games up it will automatically make you pay for the two most expensive. That's bull. Gamestop, in contrast, has a system where it automatically gives you the best deal. So, yeah, the guy could ring them up in a way that would make it work, but the system is designed to screw you over, and I really doubt that they train the employees on how to properly ring them up.

EDIT: and further, they have the most bogus return policy I've ever heard of. If you return a game because it doesn't work, they will only let you exchange it for another equal value game. No refunds. Well, the guy told me that it depends on who rings you up. What? Are we still of the opinion that BBV isn't the problem here? And people complain about Gamestop. Gamestop lets you return a used game within 7 days for any reason and for a full refund, even if the reason is that you played the game to completion and are done with it.
Well, I've bought stuff at 6 or 7 stores and only once did the employee not know how to ring them up. And she just said "Oops, I forgot about the sale" and just gave me a credit to make up for the difference (two $9.99 games got taken off with two $14.99 games so she put a $5 credit into the transaction). I have had them do it in some strange ways though. One manager "cleared" the transaction after every grouping of like-priced games. This meant it went on my account as a balance, and I got a seperate receipt for every group. Then I paid for th elast group + my balance all at once at the end. That was very odd - hitting total after each group (or pair) is much easier and neater ;).
I'm also not sure if the bogo comes up automatically because every BBV I went to had to scan a special upc for the sale.
Absolutely not necessary - it is 100% automatic.
I have never found any POG games at Blockbusters. It sucks. So many people are getting like, Gears 2 for only $6.99 and BOGO...I wish my Blockbusters showed some more love. I may hit a couple more this weekend to confirm they don't have them either...
Yeah, tell me about it. The dude above who found tons of Mario games as prepacks -. I have now been to just about every store relatively close to me and only ONE got any of the April prepacks and it was just 360 games, no Wii. Some other stores had prepacks but they were leftover rejects from the Nov 2009 batch that no one has wanted at 2 B1G1 sales (GH III, Turok, Viking, old sports games, etc).
4/9/10

PSP MUA2 is $7.75

I didn't buy it....I just know the TIV because I asked over the phone on Wed night and confirm the TIV @ GS today when I was trading other games.

I would have gotten $11.63 so it's not worth the flip....my goal is 2 times or more for flips...sometimes 1.9 times or if I need an extra game for the extra bonus.
Yep, which is why I left that one last night along with the DS version which is also $14.99. The Amazon value for both wasn't worth it either. Now MUA 1 for PS3, on the other hand...
How is EVERYONE finding Beautiful Katamari (Except for me, of course.) It is supposed to be "rare" but we find them at every single BBV..haha
I haven't seen a single one at all the stores I've gone to. Most of the stores around here converted their one and only rental copy about a year ago. I guess these are bigger stores than had more copies and finally got around to converting their last one. I have seen a couple of Eternal Sonata and I noted that they didn't have it for rent any more - so they converted the last of that one. I can't find one with a manual though (which is why I looked in the rental section ;)).

I got:
Cid Meyer's Civilization Revolution - 9.99
Afro Samurai - FREE

Both for PS3

I've visited a few BBV locations that had FAR more games available then were out on the floor. One in particular had around 400 discs in a back room. :whistle2:/ If you're deadset on finding a game (Like Beautiful Katamari), make sure to ask. At worst, they'll be able to tell you the nearest store that has the game in stock.

Didn't know there was tracking being done on the POG titles. So far, I've seen:

10+ SSBB
5+ GTA VI 360
3+ Beautiful Katamari
Halo 3
Need for Speed Undercover 360
Call of Duty W@W 360
Call of Duty 4 360
Guitar Hero 5 360
Street Fighter IV 360
tons of sports games

I've gotten a kick out of some PS2 prepacks with 2003-2006 sports games in them. Something tells me they cost more to fix than they'll ever sell them for.

Geez. It's like no one buys games in this area. Hit a second Blockbuster. Left a ton of stuff there for others to find (including complete PS3 Army of Two, Saints Row 2, and Oblivion), but left with...

2x @$14.99: Soul Calibur IV (360), Dirt 2 (Wii)
2x @$9.99: Lair (PS3), Eternal Sonata (360)
2x @$6.99: Worms A Space Oddity (Wii), Earth Defense Force 2017 (360)

What kind of strange, magical land do you live in?

Why couldn't Blockbuster spread the love around and at least send a handful of these (Wii prepacks that is) to my metro area! Damn. But to add to your 360 list, Fallout 3 seems like a common one, and I think others have seen Fable II. At the one and only store with new POGs I got Fallout 3, GTA IV, Rock Band 2, CoD WaW, and DaH Path of Furon. I wish I had picked up NFS Undercover since it gets $9 at GS. I thought CoD WaW would be higher but it is only $5 apparently. I've been so busy with the BBV sale I haven't even had time to go to GS yet though .
sale runs thru 4/19
Thanks hb. My PS3 is coming in on Monday, and I'll have Fallout 3, Pure and Burnout Paradise immediately available to play. However, I'll definitely visit my local BBVs at least a couple of more times before this sale runs out in hopes of finding a couple of more games.
What kind of strange, magical land do you live in?
I live about 25 min from 10 BBV stores in southern mass/northern ri. The 3 stores in Worcester paid off big. There is a store near Quinsigamond in north Worcester where I found all those SSBB copies. I "only" bought 4 of them, so there are prolly a ton left still. That store and the one near Millbury (but still in Worcester) had so many POG games in the bins that I had to take them out to sort through them.
sale runs thru 4/19 so we have 2 more opportunies for rental conversions and price drops.
Rental conversions and price drops happen on Sundays, correct?

Has anyone noticed if BBVs have restocked their used game inventory? The BBVs I visited the past 2 days were quite bare:(

There actually have been several people who've reported that their stores replenished their used game shelves.

Yeah. I went yesterday morning and they didnt have much. Today, they had a bunch of stuff. The guy at the counter even showed me, and even let me pick out games from a stack they didnt put out since they didnt have enough cases.

This whole "replenishing" thing is very odd. They've never done that before for B1G1 sales - it has always just been whatever that store had and when they ran low they ran low (barring new rental conversions that happened during the sale).

Can anyone who works at BBV explain where these "replenishments" are coming from? Everyone here seems to think it is normal and expects it. I think it is very odd and unexpected, having shopped at BBV extensively for games for over 5 years now. Is this stuff from all the stores that have been closing? Otherwise it makes no sense for them just to get more used game stock out of the blue.

I have a hunch that some of it is the "old" new game stock they got rid of a while back being sent back out to stores for this sale (and sold as used). Either that or games they overbought for rental but never sent out. I think that explains why there are so many copies of Drawn To Life Next Chapter at so many stores (4-6 at some stores - they surely never had that many to rent). I mean, one store I was at said they got a big shipment before the sale started which makes sense - getting them halfway through makes less sense.

I picked up DOA4 and Blue Dragon this time for $6.99. They had Army of Two for $14.99 but it was in the Army of Two 40th Day casing. I tried to see if I could dupe them into giving me 40th day. Almost worked but the chick who was working there knew too much and corrected the cashier who was assisting me else I'd have a nice steal.

Just a quick note guys. If you try purchasing two 10 dollar games and 2 7 dollar games, the system will take off the two lowest prices. At least the employee was nice enough to tell me and make two separate transactions on one receipt.

I didn't read your whole post IO but here is what happened to me yesterday. I went to a BBV and while browsing the used game selection, the lady told me that anything I wanted from the rental section could be converter if I wanted it!

It turns out that the store was closing soon and BBV corporate wanted the games to be shipped back instead of putting them on sale during the liquidation. This is the first I am hearing of this since I stocked up when I went to a closing store about a month ago, they were selling their old stock.

So in a nutshell, I'm thinking that games are from closing stores.

Well, on the first day I was at a store that was going to begin liquidation in 5 days. They were still active with the sale until then and I asked if I could get any rentals converted and he said no way - they will all be going on sale when the liquidation starts (and probably at something lame like 20% off for 3-4 weeks like the other closing stores I've checked out).

So you were lucky - I wish they had let me grab stuff - they had multiple rental copies of SSBB, Mario Galaxy, Mario & Sonic, etc...
Is Afro Samurai any good? If only they would run this sale couple weeks earlier...:bomb:
Yes, it is good.

It got a bad rap from a lot of sources but it is fun, has great music, Samuel L. is in it and has fun achievements.

I paid $9.99 in early Feb. and wholly enjoyed it so for $5.00 it is even better.

Anyone else feel any pangs of remorse when they dig to the bottom of the hex-barrel and find multiple copies of Sudoku Ball Detective? ;)

Not a whole lot of SSBB, Sluggers, or M&S Olympic in these parts. I got enough to trade towards EO:BW, ACII, L4D2, and WWDIY at GS, though, so I think I did alright.

Also bought 6 prepacks to keep: AC, Bioshock, Gears of War 2, CoD:MW, Soul Calibur IV, and Prince of Persia, all 360.

Just about out of BBV credit...

Ah, cool. Thanks for the reply. What type of game play is it similar to? Devil May Cry/Ninja Gaiden type, except as samurai?

I never traded any there but interestingly enough I did see one copy at one store. So someone around here must have flipped it, but not to any great extent. I almost bought it too.

Now, those copies of Rock Revolution, on the other hand ;).

I think I will see if my local store still has Afro Samurai. I left it there yesterday but what the hell, I might as well get it to play if I can find another $10 game to pair it with (assuming it is still there of course).

Okay so here is what I scored at my blockbuster on the B1G1 free sale.

Fable 2-6.99
COD:World at War-6.99
Stranglehold-6.99
Beautiful Katamari-6.99
50 Cent: Blood in the Sand-6.99
Street Fighter IV-6.99

That's it for now. I still have Fallout 3 for 6.99 I have to buy as well.

Ha, you got Stranglehold instead of Fallout 3. I'm actually kinda glad I got SH though, I was stuck on the level where you have a band playing in the center of a lounge and you have several waves of goons to kill...was stuck on that way since back in the day and finally beat the level the other night :) I got wise and used my skillz to pay da billz...and by skillz I mean health regeneration >_>

Picked up a game I had never heard of, Vampire Rain, for 6.99 tonight. Haven't had the chance to try it but by the look of things on the interwebz, blockbuster may have gotten the better of me on this one game.

Vampire Rain.....ouch! Yeah I think BBV got ya on that one.

I'm still going back to get Fallout 3 obviously. Ever noticed that if you haven't played a game in a LONG long time because you got stuck on a level then you go back to it years later yo beat it like nobody's business?

Oh has anyone played Velvet Assassin? We have it for 14.99 and I wanted someone's opinion on the game.

Even at $7.50 it may not be worth it, I think its a clunky stealth game that basically fails in every aspect. If Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell (and Vampire Rain lol) are your favorite games then check it out, if not then pass.

Damn, I didn't know this was going on till I walked into my local franchise BBV.
I have store credit from FairyTale Fights.
This store is doing 50% off on all games all prices.
This make me wonder what they had when the sale started.

Bioshock 2 - $15
Halo 3 ODST - $10
Fallout 3 - $5
Brutal Legend - $5
Super Mario Galaxy - $5

.

Went to five Blockbusters in CT (Winsted, Avon, West Hartford, Plainville, Bristol). Four of them were an absolute waste of time. The Blockbuster in West Hartford had Punchout for 9.99 so I grabbed Overlord for Wii, also priced 9.99. I waited in line for an eternity and checked out - and they both rang up differently (Punchout 39.99, Overlord 24.99). The manager lady told me they were mislabeled and I told her she should've done a better job on that but she still wouldn't sell me the games. Long story short, net loss of several hours and half a tank of gas.

I grabbed these a few days ago. So not too bad a deal for me.

Star Wars The Force Unleashed 9.99
Midnight Club LA Remix 9.99
Dissidia Final Fantasy 14.99
Boom Blox Bash Party 14.99

(along with some non-B1G1 anime from the $4 bin)

My Blockbuster must have restocked or something because I went earlier this week and again tonight. Tonight I found Saint's Row 2 for ps3 for 14.99 and also picked up kingdom hearts ds.

Anyone know the trade in value of Kingdom hearts for DS at gamestop?

Well, you can get the most of it if you trade in 5 other games, they have tiered trade going on so....

14 base(what you'll get if you go right now) times .5(.4+.1 if you have edge)

21 dollars.

I know LakersForLife just spoon-fed you, but for future reference, you could have searched this thread for "Kingdom Hearts" or "KH". I've mentioned the trade value myself at least 3 times, as have several others.

OR, you could check that dandy "trade-in values" section in the banner. The value was updated as recently as 24 hours ago.

Anyone lucky enough to find Tales of Vesperia, it's trading in at $20 at Gamestop base TIV. That comes out to 30 with a tiered trade-ins of 40% + EDGE.

Picked up at San Dimas, CA store:

Red Faction Guerilla :14.99
Overlord 2: 14.99
Prince of Persia: 9.99
Saints Row 2: 6.99 (no box/manual)

Total: $25

There were a few other decent games. I almost missed the bins set aside for this deal. Hah

Picked up at 4 copies of transformers : Revenge of the fallen in 2 bestbuy* in San Pablo CA
Transformers (PS3) = 14.99
Transformers (PS3) = 14.99
Transformers (WII) = 14.99
Transformers (XBOX360) = 14.99
tOTAL :32
Now i am gonna play and finish transformers and then trade them in gamestop where i can get around 51 dollars in store credit with the 40% trade and 10% edge card.

*I meant to write blockbuster instead of bestbuy
