Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
You can temp fate, but it's risky, depending on the manager, cuz I used that same deal with Final Fantasy XIII back in February. Since the flyers were still up in the store, Manager was willing to honor it but went to remove the flyers immediately after.

When I saw it, I picked up 2 Brutal Legends then at the same time after buying them, traded them back in for credit towards the game, and got it for $30.

Blockbuster has new flyers replacing that old one you saw from months ago. By the time your order that copy from EA and then trade it in, it's possible they caught on about the old flyers and proceed to remove them. Then you will be screwed.
But I already have a copy of Brutal Legend that I ordered from EA's site(using the double stacking coupons last week around this time;)), so it cost me about $2.72 a game. I already dumped 5 on the local shop for $30, which covered my $26 total from the order, so I have nothing to lose really.

Although I'm sure they have changed the flyers at my local store by now, but if not then I'll have them order me God Of War III and hope it doesn't take 3 weeks to get here. Then return that bitch to GS for my $60 in credit back.;)

mmmmm, I hope they do some decent ps3 price drops this weekend, they have 3-5 good games that are at $19.99 right now that the freaking 360 has for $14.99 which would bring them into the Bogo deal.

Okay, here is everything I picked up, with prices (maximized B1G1 implied):
:360:
COD World at War $6.99
Gears of War $6.99
Battlefield: Bad Company $9.99
Mass Effect $6.99
GTA IV (x2) $6.99
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed $6.99
Eternal Sonata $9.99
Beautiful Katamari $6.99
Civilization Revolution $6.99 (POG)

:ps3:
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen $14.99
Dead Space $9.99
Oblivion $14.99
Godfather 2 $9.99

:wii:
Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games $9.99 (not normal price!)
Mario Super Sluggers $9.99

:ds:
Kirby: Super Star Ultra $9.99
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 (x5) $14.99

:psp:
Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny (x3) $14.99
Dissidia: Final Fantasy $14.99

This was spread out over 4 days. The first day I only bought 2 copies of KH (one to keep). The second day I only bought those first 6 games for the military. The third day I picked up a handful of keeper games for myself. And today was the day I went all-out for max trade value. So the local competition had plenty of time to beat me to it!

Final results, after all promotions (excluding what I spent on those donated games, since that was a pure loss) was approx $137 spent. In return I got Resistance 2 (new) and used but basically mint copies of Oblivion, Dissidia, Dead Space, and KH 358/2. Plus approx $260 in GS credit. :D

I'm willing to trade Eternal Sonata for something that would get a good trade in value at gamestop.... that's about all I'm doing the blockbuster rounds for... btw my ES is complete, disc looks perfect... PM me.

I went to 2 blockbusters in OC that i used to frequent.. And one was already closed down and out of business, the other had a sign saying 9 days left till store closes..

So yah, that kinda sucked.
That must've been a flyer from when the promo started like 3 months ago or whatever. Man if that's the case I would have bought all the brutal legends up and preordered a bunch of stuff. It must've required a mgr override.
I did...they only had 2 Brutal Legends left. :)

I usually don't post pics but I had to on this one. I traded this game in at multiple BBV's for $36 and then I would never see them again. I'm guessing the price had something to do with it. I got it during this sale lol.

If you can't see the sticker, it is
$6.99

So far, sooo good:

xbox360.gif

 • Madden NFL 10 $6.99
 • Grand Theft Auto IV $6.99
 • Saints Row 2 $6.99
 • Crackdown $9.99
 • Army of Two $6.99
 • Unreal Tournament III $6.99
 • Stuntman Ignition $6.99
 • Overlord $9.99
 • Viking $6.99
 • Crash of the Titans $6.99
 • Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End $6.99
 • Narnia: Prince Caspian $4.99
 • TMNT $6.99
 • The Golden Compass $4.99
 • NHL 2K6 $4.99
 • Jumper $4.99

That's about 55 dollars for 16 games. YEAH.

So I got Transformers RotF and Godfather 2 just as flips, and I was greatly impressed with both of them. They aren't that good, but they aren't that bad either. I was letdown greatly by LotR but that is expected. lol out

heads up on those flipping and grabbing multiples mario and sonics to take advantage of the gamestop promo. Word is they are not accepting any more of those!
Seriously, i would kill for an Eternal Sonata (The only one i found i had brought before, and it was borked to hell, and the exact same damn disc has been floating around for like a month)

I grabbed ES during one of my trips, got anything you want to give up? I'm looking for Fable 2, Prototype, or W@W myself.
Didn't you read what he said? Name someone you want killed! He'll take care of it.
Since there doesn't seem to be a master trade list..I will echo the thought of a previous poster. Would anyone be willing to trade Eternal Sonata for another Blockbuster sale game? I can't find the game anywhere, and maybe there is something I can find that others can't. I haven't found any POG games, but I have seen most of the titles that would otherwise qualify for this sale.
I've seen one copy of Eternal Sonata at every Blockbuster I've gone to, but the three times I actually tried to buy it the disc has always been beaten to hell.

Well just completely demolished my store before inventory. Pretty much everything with a positive flip to amazon. Turned out to be 20 or 25 games. It feels sad that all this work was for the equivalent of like 1 check. Then again, it's sad how small my checks are =( Mostly garbage games. I'm really surprised something like de blob has such a high TiV at amazon still, almost positive it's been a lot lower. Guess they get hit hard with sales like these and once the demand kicks in it all kind of stabilizes.

If anyone in Florida happen to get KOF XII on PS3 at any of the BBVs. I would like to get it off your hands with shipping included. Just putting it out there thanks

Here was my Saturday night, the wife's out of town so I'm going to scour the entire metro area (a whopping three blockbusters) haul (prices before B1G1):

:ps3:
Prince of Persia $9.99
Tomb Raider: Underworld $9.99
MLB 2K9 $9.99
Mercenaries 2 $9.99
Incredible Hulk $6.99
Smack Down vs. RAW 2008 $4.99
Enchanted Arms $9.99
Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire (I know, I know) $9.99

:wii:
Pikmin Play Control $9.99
Worms: A Space Oddity $9.99

Raving Rabbids TV Party $6.99

:ps2:
Star Wars: The Clone Wars Republic Heroes $6.99

Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction $4.99

All but four were complete. I'm pretty excited, but the queue just got a lot longer.

Forgot to add what I managed to pick up a few days ago. Got the following titles:

Grand Theft Auto IV (Complete)
Mirror's Edge (Complete)

Beautiful Katamari (Missing Manual)

No More Heroes (Missing Manual)

Like someone posted earlier not many price drops to $14.99 this week. Damnation both platforms, rockband beatles all platforms, halo wars, and wii tmnt.

Game transfers can be done Sunday so you may see some new stuff out but not much that will qualify for the sale. Most of the stuff being converted is the new stuff ie GOW III, AVP, bioshock 2, dante's inferno, LFD2, borderlands etc.

That is more than i expected. Beatles RB is a pretty good deal. My local BB has a Halo Wars: LE, so I will see if that qualifies.

cool. so transfers are sunday, price changes on Monday, correct? I would love to swing out on Monday to try to grab a RB Beatles for $7.50.

Hey here's a little something if BBV gets sloppy like they did for so long with Cranium Kabuki: Damnation is dropping to $14.99, so it would qualify for the sale. I just traded it in yesterday for the 360 at it got $10. Like I said, this is a big maybe, but if they don't update that TIV, there could be a small profit churning that game back into the system over and over. It would also be really handy as a filler; ie you need one more $14.99 game to make a set; why not Damnation, if you could possibly take it down the road to the next store and get $10 for it.
So which system is Prototype cheap for? I liked that game and if I could find anything to pair it up with I'd love to pick it up again.
I saw it marked $19.99 for the 360.
anybody able to find Bioshock 1?

my area doesn't have any to buy...anyone have any luck getting employees to transfer rentals to buy??
I saw a PS3 copy, no artwork or booklet, for 9.99. Want me to snag it?

Also, do price changes take effect tomorrow or today?
Ha! So I'm guessing that Singstar vol. 1 doesn't fetch $36 anymore?? But then again, knowing BBV, it just might!
Last time I traded it in (for $36), a girl told me that it sells for $6.99 so it has been like that for awhile.

I thought it was (or at least used to be) price changes on Sunday, TIV on Monday? Or did that change and I missed it?

So far was able to snag the following

(Wii)
MLB 2k9 9.99

(360)
Bionic Commando 9.99
NFS: Undercover 6.99
NFS: Pro Street 6.99
NFS: carbon 6.99
C&C Siberian 6.99
Mercenaries 2 6.99
Gears of War 2 6.99

So like 31 dollars pre tax for 8 games, not bad.

I also saw SFIV for 9.99 but didn't have a need to grab it. Thanks op.

such a good sale. I made about $300 in credit from $150 spent.

Going to pick up Splinter Cell with it and bought a bunch of things I'd been wanting at Gamestop. Paid off Super Street Fighter 4, and probably bought about 10 games I'd been wanting from the B1G1 to keep also.

Thanks BBV!

And I saw it marked $19.99 for the PS3 too. But I swear someone mentioned getting it for one of the systems. It was probably just another price error or something.

BTW, for those getting complete/mint games, you guys really might wanna consider the Best Buy trade-ins.

I'm getting $79(assuming they take my trades w/o deducting anything for some bs reason)for four games(non GOTY LBP $30, 2x Hots Shots Golf: Out Of Bounds$20 each, which was $5 @ Sears;) and a copy of Rise Of The Argonauts $9 I never finished).

They pay for shipping(one way)too.

I think at least one member found proto in POG format, hence the deal.
I had both platforms scanned this week, $19.99
Ok, let us know.
Yeah, I'll let you guys know if I find anything new and such. Was gonna go today but I feel it's a waste if price changes don't happen till tomorrow.

Just picked up Beatles Rock Band :360:... the employee there was very proactive I guess and had already put the new stickers on, though of course it rang up $19.99 still.

Anyone know if Rock Band 2 :360: is $14.99 also, or just the PS3 version?

I had a cashier check the price of the 360 version the other day and it was $19.99.

I have zero experience w/BBV price changes, but I did ask a very nice lady yesterday if new games would be put out today (Sunday). She said no, but she did say the prices would change (today), and she showed me a list she printed out from corporate. It was pretty short, which she said was because they had such a small game selection.

Maybe she was mistaken, but she most definitely said the change was today.

did any of the 9.99 games drop further?

Hmm. I said i was done yesterday. But I think i'm going back.. I'm addicted!

she was mistaken. if she looked at the paperwork she'll notice the date says effective 4/12. we get the lists early but it doesnt go into effect til mon and we dont have the ability to override prices.

and games can go out sunday. stores have between sunday and wednesday to finish a transfer. last week was an exception maybe due to the large transfer.

From what I understand, they are not going to have DS or PSP games anymore. So, they will be leaking more out onto the floor as the sale goes on. My guy here told me to come back on monday for more.

Tried my Blockbuster again but there wasn't anything new. Went to a different one 10 miles out of the way but their store was closing so they had nothing.

Disappointing.
