Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Yeah but while I never played that game, I've seen the mod. It looks awful, you know? I get that it's a straight up sex mini-game, but I guess for me the better it looks, the more it should get ignorantly bashed =)

I still get a kick out of how much uproar there was over the ORIGINAL Mortal Kombat back in the 90's and how the formation of the ESRB came to be pretty much because of it.

Yet, I looked at videos of it just recently and go 'that was the game they were making a big stink over?'. It makes no sense to me.

Conan basically has a save all the tits quest.

Anyway, I had a somewhat knowledgeable employee look up The Saboteur on PS3 and 360 and she said it wasn't in the system for sale or rent for either system. Is there a bar code number I could have someone use?

014633190991 is the UPC for the PS3 game. I'm not sure if BBV uses that for inventory or if they have their own SKU system or something.

Sounds right. There are a lot of games that have this happen. Disgaea 3 I've never seen, eternal sonata on ps3 I think might be one and ninja blade for 360. I can do an inventory search and not one store in my area has a copy, which usually means the same thing: blockbuster as a whole(or a region?) didn't get it. Least that's the only thing that makes sense.
I see your Damnation, and raise you a Terminator: Salvation. If you haven't played it, don't. It was $5 after b1g1, and it still wasn't worth it. I've played four hours, and only progress maybe 1.5 or two worth because of the constant freezing.
Having played the two, Damnation is by far worse.

Well hit up 3 more stores today, and made out quite well. :)

Store 1:

$14.99
-----------
Damnation (PS3) (I know alot of you are saying its bad...but I figured I'd try it out. I'm bound to get some money for it if I dont like it)
Drawn To Life: The Next Chapter (DS) (Quite odd here.....they had the original Drawn To Life as well..but when I brought the case up they couldnt find the game. Said they had the sequel for the same price..so i just got that..but she gave me the case to the original. Ah well...I was gonna keep this anyways)

$9.99
-------------
Velvet Assassin (360)
Drawn To Life (Wii)

Store 2:

$9.99
----------
Dead Space (PS3)
Star Wars Lightsaber Duels (Wii)

$6.99
--------------
Vurtua Fighter 5 (360)
Two Worlds (360)
Secret Agent Clank (PSP)
Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaicahi 2 (Wii)

Store 3:

$9.99
----------------
Rock Band: Metal Track Pack (360) (Anyone want the code for the songs for something in return? Not sure if its been used but I already have all the songs on the pack)
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time (DS)

$6.99
--------------
Ninety Nine Nights (360)
Earth Defense Force 2017 (360)
Devil May Cry 4 (360)
Sega Rally Revo (360) (was actually $4.99)

So got all this for roughly $80 with tax.

All together from all 5 stores I went to Ive gained 29 games for $150. Hell of a deal. :)

I may trade one of my Drawn To Life games for a copy of Banjo Kazooie or Prince of Persia (360) if anyone wants to trade.
Also if someone wants to trade something for my Rock Band Metal Pack code let me know...though I cant guarantee it will work. But I'll give you the code first in trade.

My BBV had beautiful katamari the first day but i didn't even think to get it. ghostbusters wasnt glitchy, it just had a patch and had instant auto install right when you put it in and so it said do you want to get patch, i hit yes, and i think it was mid install so that messed it up for me, scared the hell out of me thinkin my ps3 was dead/errored. now on if i put a new game in i make sure the yellow light isnt blinking/installing before i install any patches, but im still a bit spooked. when i put just cause 2 in there was need for an instant patch and i made sure that save indicator wasnt blinking before i clicked yes.
Anyone know a site that I can print off cover art for games? Some of the games I bought today had no manuals or cover art.
Yeah but I don't know anything about it. Last time I tried to print one, the whole thing didn't get printed. It seems that the printable area on the paper isn't long enough to print the whole cover. You might have to use paper longer than 8.5 x 11.

surprised Blockbuster would of had that to rent.

thecoverproject.net is a great site for covers, both official and custom. I do wish someone would post a cover for Sonic Riders Zero Gravity Wii, though. I requested it but nobody made it. My kids like that game and I've got no cover for it.

Anyway... I went back to BBV the other day and again found 1 game I wanted but nothing to pair it with. Actually they also had 3 or 4 copies of Beatles: Rock Band Wii and one for 360, but most were marked $19.99. I may go back and buy them if they are still there and trade them to Best Buy now that I have another game I'm sending there.

EDIT: yes, I realize they would probably scan as $14.99. I just didn't intend to do anything with them at the time, so didn't buy any.

Good news "due to the positive results the b1g1 offer has been extended one week til Monday 4/26" so we have 2 more weeks of transfers and price drops. I guess it's time to order more rogue warriors since it's still holding at $22

I don't know how people are seeing saboteur In stores as there is no part # listed in the system so even if someone were to try and trade it in it would come up as invalid. Weird.

CAGs are using Rogue Warrior 360 to transfer their credit from GameStop to BlockBuster so they don't have to use cash. It is close to an even money flip.

It's $24.99 at gs.com and i've been taking advantage of the deal that allows you to stack coupons when ordering $100 or more. So it comes to $18.xx after discounts.

Sometimes I wish I was more dishonest, yesterday I tried to buy No More Heroes and the employee asked me if a No More Heroes 2 disc was the right one, I told him no and then they ended up not finding NMH1... >_
Good news "due to the positive results the b1g1 offer has been extended one week til Monday 4/26" so we have 2 more weeks of transfers and price drops.
This could be good news. Hopefully Wet will drop and I "think" GH: Metallica is 19.99, so if that drops, that would be nice as well. And here I hoped to save a little bit of money these next two weeks. So much for that idea.

Tomorrow? I thought price drops were Monday?

I think Hawaiiboy will know what they will be tomorrow but they won't go into effect into Monday.

oh I gotchya thanks for the response.. I thought I was missing on some crazy deal to work into the b1g1 lol

did anyone mention kingdom hearts ds dropping? I found 2 copies for $14.99 or $7.50 each and had new stickers on them from 4/14/10. saw more at another location as well for the same prices. also picked up other ds games, lego battles & up for $9.99 or $5 each

nevermind, it's in the OP spoiler, for some reason thought it was kingdom nights?
surprised Blockbuster would of had that to rent.
During a clearance sales a few years back, I bought a bunch of copies of this game at Blockbuster for like $5-10 each new. Blockbuster stocked the hell out of the Guy Game when it came out.
I just stopped at a BBV and i saw infamous at 19.99. It would be so amazing if this drops to 14.99 so we can take advantage of this b1g1.
I saw this one too and was thinking the same thing. Also, wish the PS3 Rock Band: Beatles falls to 14.99 next week.

I traded a new copy (Target Clearance) to GS towards Just Cause 2.
Thanks to the BOGO/POG sale, I replaced it (POG) for $3.50!

my local stores have not SSBB but one store has 3 rental copies!
anyone have any luck asking for a transfer so you could get the BOGO free?

There are actually several really good PS3 games at the $19.99 price point at BBV. Off the top of my head, I recall seeing Killzone 2, Infamous, UFC 2009 and Street Fighter IV. I'm hoping that some of these games drop on Sunday because that would give us all one more opportunity to load up on the B1G1 sale...
Just to be clear the sale is still going on?
It should be... I just got back from mine at got
Army of Two and Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise

You're welcome everybody. Yes, I feel personally responsible for this given all that I've spent (and all in cash too - I didn't bother with Rogue Warrior flipping).

There's a lot more, too: Lego Rock band for all 3 systems, Toy Story Mania for Wii. Star Ocean for 360 just dropped to $19.99 (so it's unlikely to drop again so soon but you never know). And I remember seeing scads of other PS3 games at $19.99 (RE 5 for one). I think someone mentioned GoW Collection, but also MGS 4 and GT 5 Prologue I think are still $19.99. and have been so for a long time.

I am really, really burnt out on this sale, though. It would need to be a pretty nice selection to drop for me to make too many more runs. If it is just one or two things the problem will be in finding other $14.99 games to pair up with. It wouldn't be worth it if I have to buy some load of crap just to get, say, GoW Collection for $14.99.

I hit up a few Blockbuster stores and it makes me wonder how long these will be opened until. I was either the only one in there buying games or there might have been one or two other people in there at the same time. I remember over ten years ago when the store used to be packed with people renting and buying! The times really do change.

Regardless, this is a great deal. Since it's been extended I will check out even more stores.

Hoping for some good flips to Best Buy if we get some good drops. Wife is looking for a new Dyson vacuum and they cost more than a frickin' PS3!
Have $160 pending right now with them.

That is good to know. I think everyone should post their hopes, dreams and what they want to buy in the future. This thread will really benefit from that.
