Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
So a game that is all over the place here and have seen no one mention (and was unreported in the GS trade thread) is Tinkerbell: Lost Treasure for the DS. The base TIV of that is $9, so the $5 --> $13.50 is a lot better than the Marvel Super Hero Squad so many people have thought was so great.
Wish I had figured this out before today, but I needed some filler and decided to give that one a try.
Well, I didn't know the GS trade-in value because it wasn't listed in the DB here on CAG when I checked, but it has been a staple of my Amazon/Gazelle trades ($10). The other one gets $9.

I was trying not to be too obvious about it, but I did mention a while back that all those Disney DS games were worth checking out as I was sure most of you guys were ignoring them. For the most part, they are better for trading than the shoot-em-up console games most of you guys go after ;).

Wow, I wish I would have known it had such a good GS TIV
Ah yeah...that is funny indeed. Boy they're lazy if they didn't bother taking off a few stickers.
Considering Gamestop puts on how many stickers at their stores, what's a few more on the case? At the rate they keep putting stickers on the cases, I'm shocked we haven't seen a picture of a game's case mummified in stickers from various stores by now.

Of course, now that I said that, someone will do just that with a combo of GS and BBV stickers and snap a pic of it to be a smartass.

But, yeah, that pic was pretty funny - double laziness there: first on the part of the person trading it in, then on the part of the GS employees. But I put more of the blame on the trade-in dude. I mean, c'mon, those BBV stickers come off really easily for the most part. Why be that blatant about it? If nothing else, it has the potential of raising suspicion of theft if they look like they just came off the shelves of another store - why even entertain the possibility of that hassle? I'm guessing he probably had a whole stack of BBV games all with the stickers on them .

yeah i was snatching up tinkerbell games left and right to trade in to CEX. they were giving like $13 credit for the second one, Marvel SHS was a goody there too for awhile, probably about 80% of the qualifying games I would guesstimate are worth more somewhere else, CEx, ebay, GS, goozex, TRU, BB etc. sometimes you just gotta take a chance on a few, especially if you could pair em nicely, and especially the 6.99 and 4.99 ones, the risk/reward is usually pretty good

I've seen games stickered like that more than once, in both BBV and more often in GS. Personally, I always tear the old stickers off before I flip. There might be some residue left, but not an actual price tag!

Here's the base trade values for each of the new drops at Gamestop, though Cars Race-O-Rama is NOT listed on the GS value thread and some of these are ooooold values, so they may be worth jack shit by now.

Beatles Rock Band:$9(4/12/10)
Cars Race o Rama: no value listed in GS thread
GH Metallica::$7(2/24/10)
Ice Age Dawn of: $8.50(11/29/09)
Rock Band 2:$9(3/23/10)
World Of Zoo:$6.75(4/20/10)
Toy Story Mania:$13.50(4/15/10)

So far the two 'best' ones seem to be TSM and BRB, since they have the highest TIV's with the most recently updated values.
Damn..I know where I'm going tomorrow. I saw both Tinkerbell games at $9.99 but figured they were worthless. What does the other Tinkerbell game trade in for?
The Gamestop extra 40% deal is over today Im pretty sure. It is still quite a bit higher but don't expect the 40%. I think an employee told me a 30% starts tomorrow. Doesn't matter amount of games. Don't know if that is true or not.

From Gamestop website:

Tiered % Offer (360, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP)

Trade any 2 Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS or PSP games and get an extra 10% trade-in credit, trade 4 and get an extra 20% or 6 or more for an extra 40%.

Offer not good on cash trades. Trades must be in full working condition to receive full value. Offer good towards games normally accepted in trade only. Cannot be combined with any other offer. Trade-ins subject to manager approval. See store associate for details. No dealers. Offer valid in the United States, Puerto Rico and Guam only.

No end date listed for the tiered trade that I can see, which strikes me as really odd.

I was denied a trade-in by GS a long time ago because the case itself was from Blockbuster. I've made it a point to use generic or authentic cases for trade-ins ever since.

They pulled that shit on me too at the one GS near here. I went off on them, telling them why does it look like 90-95% of them are in non original cases with GS artwork and are probably scratched to shit, while I bring in one game in an unusual case and I get crap for it.

Then I just said to forget the transaction and went to the next closest one, where they took the games without a hassle of any kind. Then again, the store that hassled me likes to think that by gouging people with refurb fees for every little thing they're going to suddenly gain favor with their DM.

This just shows how much of a fracking RIP OFF those Gamestops really are, i think the only time i've traded to them is stuff i got for FREE via BB coupon deals otherwise they can suck my hairy donkey ballz!

The only things I can remember trading in at GS in the past 6 months are two copies of L4D2 off CL that I got $95 credit from an investment of $45 (during the 50% + edge) and free games from BB.

Gazelle TIVs (all Wii, assuming with original case/artwork):

Beatles Rock Band- $20
Cars Race-O-Rama- $17
Guitar Hero: Metallica- $13
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs- $10
Rock Band 2- $12
World of Zoo- $10
Toy Story Mania- $13

And I went by my local BBV to see what they would have tomorrow. The only thing they had on the list that isn't here is Drawn to Life 2 for DS ($10). Otherwise a little dry. Maybe that's a good thing, since I don't have that much money. :p

Hey now. One Gamestop 'hater' per thread please. This one already has its limit with me.;)

But I'm the same way. Unless I got the shit stupid cheap, Gamestop is the LAST place I go to trade stuff in.

I should've really went out tonight and saw what was left of the new drops, so I know what sort of chance I have tomorrow whenever I drag my ass to BBV to try and grab a few for flipping.

Yeah. I saw that also. I was just told by a manager at a store that today was the last day and a 30% on games started tomorrow. Im not quite sure what to believe though.

Sounds accurate, the last sale ended on a Sunday (I believe) and the one before did as well (I believe).

is the BOGO at blockbuster still alive??? It's been a while... I would think that by now that its done... specifically today. I don't exactly know why I think this though...

Can anyone confirm with me the status of this deal??

TIA

I saw this in a local game stop today and thought it was hilarious
Should have demanded it be sold to you...Then return it later without the BBV sticker.
Will the sale continue tomorrow? I read the last few pages but nothing.
It seems that way. That's why everyone is planning on hitting up their BBV tomorrow when Toy Story Mania, Beatles Rock Band etc. hit the $15 mark.

I was out most of the day today, but hoping the TIVs stay tomorrow plus the sale goes till tomorrow and the prices do drop. What games are on this list?

I got all the Beatles Rock Bands I could, so it's Toy Story Mania, Tinkerbell (DS), and what else?

Thanks to anyone who can recap for me.

thanks! I guess I could give it a try tomorrow.

Dont believe anyone has posted FYE values yet, so if anyone wants actual cash, FYE is the way to go:

Toy Story Mania: $14.50
Cars Race O Rama $12.25
Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure $9.75 (this is the one people are finding right? There are 2 Tinker Bell games)

Hope I can score 2 copies of each. Wouldnt mind keeping a Toy Story for myself.
I was denied a trade-in by GS a long time ago because the case itself was from Blockbuster. I've made it a point to use generic or authentic cases for trade-ins ever since.
I have too, and do the same thing. I guess I will hit up a few stores since it is going on tomorrow.

Does anyone know if some good GS to BBV flips that aren't Rogue Warrior? I would love to not spend real money and pick up a few games. It doesn't seem like many games are worth ANYTHING at BBV though, so they may be difficult.

The 40% deal is still on the website, but so is the $25 off new game deal that ended yesterday so it is still up in the air whether it is on or not.

IM talking the Gamestop promotion.

Just called a Gamestop in Tampa.

The 40% Ended yesterday.

The new one is 30% on any next Generation game. Doesn't matter if you trade in 1 or 2 or whatever.

So still for the games being talked about you come out ahead and makes it worth it.

Any east coasters have (or willing to get) the TIV at BBV for 360 Rogue Warrior? Hawaii thought it might bottom out today...
thanks!

Just called - still $22.

Grabbed two Toy Story Manias, a guitar hero metallica and a beatles RB. Thanks Hawaiiboy. There was someone closely examining the games when I got there but the tags hadn't been changed yet so she paused long enough for me to get what I wanted.

Tags werent changed at the Bay City, MI location but I asked the cashier if theyd ring em up and see if they rang up at $14.99. And they did, so I nabbed 3 copies of Toy Story and a copy of Cars Race O Rama. Keeping 1 Toy Story for myself, and flipping the rest. One of my Toy Storys still has the 3D glasses in it too. :)

I will be stopping in after work and attempt to pick up BRB Wii and 360 which they had multiples of last time I was there, and to look for Toy Story Mania, etc. Also Brutal Legend if they have any out now.

Absolutely no copies of Toy Story near me. I did manage to nab Beatles Rockband, Cars Race-O-Rama, Guitar Hero Metallica, and a copy of Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X for myself. Tags weren't updated here either.

Hawaiiboy FTW! :applause:

I just turned 6 Rogue Warriors (GS credit) into, well...lots. :)

Just in time for the B1G1 50% Star Wars Lego sale at ToysRUS. Christmas came early for my boys!

(no worries about the BBV banhammer - no more than 2 per store and spread over two district managers)

...and I left STACKS of Toy Story and Cars on the shelves (all marked 19.99). There's plenty to go around.
No price drops here in southwest Ohio.
Note my post above - they're still marked 19.99 in most places. Have them SCAN THEM and watch the look on their face! I almost get as much enjoyment from the "The sale is only good on titles 14.99 or less - these won't work...Oh, well I guess they ARE 14.99" spiel as the games themselves. :D

edit - This only goes for CORPORATE stores (check for a bulletin board that lists a district manager on the wall near the checkouts). Franchises are YMMV (and there are relatively few of these).

Is there any rhyme or reason to the unmarked price drops? Don't want to to carry a stack of games to the front to be scanned :)
