Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Blockbusters Facebook promo page:

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Is there any way to know ahead of time which stores will be closing Hawaiiboy? My local store has been around for about as long as I can remember. It will be really sad if it closes.
I would be interested in this as well. My 3 favorite stores in the area all closed in the past year; I'd hate to see more go.
No offense but what are you going to do about it if they stop selling non-first party titles to them?
I'll jump out of a window.

Good thing every BBV I've ever been to has been a 1 story building.

BBV doesn't "need cash bad." Right now, what they're trying to do is get as much cash as they can from all its stores so the CEOs can get huge bonuses. Look at the last quarter. $65 million lost, but Keyes got a nice $400k bonus. They know the company is gone, but they're harassing and threatening all employees with termination if they don't start selling their candy bundles. At least, that's what started happening in my district and is one fo the reasons why I just up and left.
Wii and DS games are usually the best flip fodder. See Toy Story Mania, Mario Olympics, Mario Super Sluggers, etc etc etc.
And don't forget Drawn to Life Next Chapter, Lego Rock Band DS, Jonas DS, Tinkerbell Lost Treasure DS, Princess and the Frog DS, etc... Those were way more common flip staples from the last B1G1 than M&S and Mario Sluggers. From the stack of games I saw being sent off at one store, those and many others were all ditched.
So, can you just get cash for trades at BB or just credit?
Credit, which might not be so useful at this point.
Game reduction confirmed here, just north of Cincinnati, OH. Went in this morning, and about 50-75% of the previous for-sale games were gone. Maybe 20 games left for sale, total. They guy there said they "got rid of" most of the other games that weren't selling.
#-o. Man, they sold a ton of games, to me, at least, during the last B1G1. They could have tried having another before going the liquidation route. Or, like I said earlier, they should have just stuck with the 50% off glitch. They would have cleared out most of that stuff in a week.

Lol he got a bonus for doing what? Smiling? It sure as hell wasn't for doing a good job. I wish I still got bonuses, or raises, or...anything =P

My store manager printed and cut out "coupons" for rewards, basically it's a small fucking flyer. "Are you handing them out as they come in the door?" "Yeah, some"

Lol, no, not one, not ever. They're stupid and people are bitching about being asked like 5 times so I don't even bother unless they're renting an assload or ask me. For one of the easiest jobs you could ever have, it sure is a pain in the ass and super stressful. I actually like doing well at work but they've crossed the line at this point, I just can't hassle people that much because I know how I would want to be treated as a customer.

will make a blockbuster stop tonight....picked up a ps3 a week ago and have no games....codmw2 at $29.99 toysrus maybe better.....

I know what you mean. I kinda got stupid with the amount of stuff I picked up during the B1G1. But almost everything was older stuff that's harder to find now a days and its stuff I wanted to try (just not willing to pick up at higher prices). Throw in the low prices and I was sunk.;)

Another 50% sale would have been great for us as well as BBV. However, the SUITS only care about their pocketbook. This clear-out is a quick and simple way to get a bunch of cash where a sale would be the equivalent of water torture, waiting for the money to trickle in little by little

Im pretty sure there will be a drop in stock prices for BBV next week lol

Sorry, but Im hopeful that BBV will be pulling themselves out of this.

I'll use some of my Vanilla Visas to purchase stock at .31 / share

This reminds me of the days when all of the Blockbuster Music stores closed down. I recall buying this awesome magazine rack for like $5.

Wow that was like 10 years ago too...my how time flies.
And I bought 400 shares at $1.28 a share #-o#-o#-o
Just grabbed some shares. Hopefully they (or someone else) will come through and "rescue/buy" them out. If so, we'll make a nice profit. If not, I'll consider this my "donation" for all the dirt cheap games and glitches I benefited from.

I think Mass Effect 2 dropped to $19.99 today. I saw the manager at my local bbv place a stack of price tags in front of the newer release end-cap titles. There was a set of $19.99 tags by ME2, $44.99 tags by BF:BC2, and he was prepping some for Bioshock 2.

I just left one of my BB's and ME2 was still $30 but Bioshock 2 was down to $30 now. BBC2 was UP to $45 where it was $40 just last week.

Stopped at a couple BBVs on my way home from work, in search of a copy of Green Day Rock Band to rent. (Shocker, I actually wanted to rent a game, that never happens.) Apparently, they aren't stocking this game. None of the stores had gotten in a copy. This game is the epitome of a "rent" for me. I'm a sucker for the genre, but I'm not paying $60 for an expansion pack. Just want to play it, get the achievements, and if I can get my hands on an export code for cheap, import it. But no. No copies. Another blockbuster fail.

It's funny but I've noticed a lot of games I just want to rent and not buy are not stocked by them, yet they stock multiples of the big releases that I will be buying and spending my time playing. Just another reason to sigh and move on...
$29.99 for Bioshock 2 new? That's not really a deal, I'm happy I didn't trade in my SMG2 for $40 there..
I believe that would be the used price since they don't even carry new games any more.
I believe that would be the used price since they don't even carry new games any more.
Try telling that to one of the stores down the line from me. They were one of the first ones to clear out their new stock when BBV was supposed to have stopped selling new games a while ago.

Yet they're one of nearly a handful of stores around here that started selling them again after corporate apparently decided to take another crack at it.

I saw a bunch of new games being sold at a Blockbuster that was closing around 2 months ago. Gauntlet: 7 Sorrows for $20, anyone?

 A handful of exceptions (especially if it is a Gamerush store which you didn't mention either way) does not negate the point that the vast majority of stores have not gotten new games shipped to them in about a year. Thus, generally speaking, any pricing info in this thread is going to be for used games.

I have not set foot in a BBV since the day before they were supposed to send most of the used stock away. I should stop in my local store to see if they even have anything left, but, meh, it isn't really worth the 10 minutes for the disappointment of either no games or just a handful...

In other news I just completed the Bayonetta I got from the first day "glitch" of the last BBV sale (for half off of $29.99). So, now, off to Gazelle it goes for $28 - kind of like a reverse rental where I got paid to play it for a couple weeks ;).

That may be the last great sale we ever get, but hopefully not.

I went in to my local BBV today, I noticed some empty shelves where movies for rent should be. Wonder if that section is taking a hit as well.....you would be lucky to find a BBV with 20 games used for sale lately.

I went into one the other day. Was sad to see how much of their stock was gone. The wire rack they had set up, had a few games spaced out. They are clearing out a lot of other things. I picked up the Simpsons Scene It for $10. I should check to see if they are clearing out the G.I. Joe or Transformers Monopoly sets, that is if they still have them.

There are no Gamerush stores in my area and while HWV was still a viable chain(a few years ago)we had ONE Gamecrazy within 100 miles of here.
For what it's worth madden 10 and NCAA football 10 will drop to $19.99 on 6/14. All formats.
Too bad Gamestop stopped that 'trade Madden 10 and get a Madden 11 pre-order for $20' or whatever trade promo a while ago.

Otherwise, ya could buy a $20 Madden 10, trade towards the 11 promo, then switch the pre-order to another game and get said game for $40 instead of $60.;)

Went to the 2 Blockbusters within reason from me and both gutted the used inventory to a single rack for all systems with only newer released used expensive titles :wall:

Went to one tuesday. I haven't went to one since last month, mostly due to free movie rental coupons I have. Much like the earlier posts, seems that the movie section is getting fewer copies(only had about 9 copies of Shutter Island when they opened tuesday). Also noticed they're no longer selling used games at all.

The games section is also shrinking, with now few Wii games & the only new releases they get in are big name titles for PS3 & 360. Seems they also finally cleared out their PS2 section. Seems like they're circling the drain like HWV did.

Went to the Gamerush across the street and the game rental section is smaller by a rack, the only used games are more recent games with only one or two at 14.99. Must say there were decent used prices for Darksiders 29.99, AC2 19.99 and the few others they had left. Hope BB becomes useful gain and survives, but I have my doubts.

This may be a question to the people who slave for blockbuster but who is this "Private Vendor" Blockbuster sold all this used inventory to?

Assassin's Creed II really dropped to $20? Which formats?

I assume that's the used price Hawaiiboy on the Madden? Still pretty weak if you ask me, I'd rather get a couple restaurant gift cards and invite company.

I looked them up on Wikipedia. They seem to be very good at anticipating market trends. I'm sure they didn't pay much for Blockbuster's stock and will probably make more money on that stock than Blockbuster would.
