Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Blockbusters Facebook promo page:
http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Awesome off topic discussion. So if I'm visiting the florida keys, then I'm in the deep south? Yeeee hah, thats dang rooten tooten interesting. Next time I'm there I'm going to rustle me up some moon shine with my gator jerky. :p :p :p

**Is it obvious that the only stuff I know about the deep south I learned from Woody in the Toy Story movies and from the Dukes of Hazzard? :)
Yeah. When Netflix started, they use to do this also (which they still continue to do, but not as bad since streaming has come along). Somehow the system "flags" you for using them too often, hence a delay. One of the tricks (there are others) with Netflix is to never respond to any of their emails (How was the picture quality, When did you receive..., etc.) and finding a post office with the quickest turnaround time. Their system is so swamped now their sending me 4 movies instead of 3, all the while I'm still streaming on my 360, Wii, PS3 and computer every night.
Wow, I remember netflix doing this years ago. I would cancel my subscription and sign up again under a different name and a different email email and I would suddenly get all of my movies quicker again. I guess by creating a new account I wasn't "flagged" anymore. I wonder if this still works. I haven't used netflix in a long while.
pretty much everyone refers to Palm/Broward/Dade counties as South Florida. I've never heard anyone say "Deep South." Where the heck did you come up with that?
Well, Tampa is South Florida, so that would make stuff thats more southern, deep south.
Well, Tampa is South Florida, so that would make stuff thats more southern, deep south.
Tampa isn't South Florida.

Tampa is home to the University of South Florida but it is not "South Florida". Having lived here my entire life, I have never heard it referred as such.

Yeah, I'm in Tampa, and this is not the Deep South. Definately a lot of ghetto parts, but not "dirty south" either. I think it's because UCF (University of Central Florida) is outside of Orlando, so Tampa got the USF (University of South Florida). Maybe they just couldn't think of any other name.

Plus, we all know Miami isn't a city but a country of it's own, so that isn't "Deep South" either lol! ;) I went down to just outside of Miami to pick up a Nissan Skyline engine with a buddy, and I barely understood anything where we were. My Spanish isn't great, but I seriously felt out of place.

And to stay on topic, the only thing the BBV's around me have here (Clearwater/Oldsmar) are a few copies of newer released games (Madden 10, Army of Two 40th, ect), and the occasional Tony Hawk Project 8/Virtua Tennis crap. Everything seems to have been shipped away for now.
Crazy thing just happend today. I saw the updated list went to a blockbuster a little out of the way. Took up Operation Flashpoint to counter and they ring me up. They ask me if i'm 18 which is weird because i'm 22 and have a full beard. I tell them i am and they ask me if i have an ID. I show them my regular ID and they think its a fake ID. I was WTF? so then i show them my military ID. They still go on to tell me they can't sell me the game because they belive i'm underage. I just got pissed and left
If they didn't take my military ID after a reg. ID, I would've laughed in their faces.
If they didn't take my military ID after a reg. ID, I would've laughed in their faces.
Would they allow a full beard on a military ID? Maybe that could have been the problem.
Friend told me he got Uncharted 2 for around 20 bucks. Is this a price drop or a misprinted case
Bump.

Looks like another round of pre-packs arriving in select stores soon.

X360 prepack July 2009 part # 275837 $6.99
X360 prepack apr 2010 part # 306710 $9.99
WII prepack Apr. 2010 part # 306709 $9.99

Hopefully the new part #'s will have some newer games and not the same old stuff from the last couple of times. These should start arriving in stores late this week or early next week. I don't expect our store to receive them til Friday at the earliest. I'll post any findings when we get them in. Our store is receving 30 of the old x360, 60 of the new x360 and 30 wii so there looks to be a lot going out if were getting that many.

What is a prepack? It's a previous rental that was reported as defective and sent back to the distribution center to get refurbished. They come in these clear/whiteish plastic cases with no cover art or instruction manual. They come in boxes of 30 and are under the same part number so calling
and asking for a particular game will not work. Not all stores will receive these but you can go to any store and ask them to check stock of another store.

I kept telling people in the past that these were refurbs but many insist what they got was brand new. They do have a very nice refurb machine compared to say, Gamestop. Why on earth GS doesn't use something as nice as BBV I have no idea. The GS refurbs look like crap - they'd probably do much better with their used games sales from GS.com if they had the BBV machine ;).

Anyway, I'm looking forward to once again not seeing these around here, just like the last few times :bomb:.
For my military ID i had to be clean shaven, my reg. ID was with a beard
I'm almost positive that it had to be your beard that set off the red flag. They thought it looked like a fake beard, and the clean-shaven military I.D. (to them) only confirmed their suspicions. It should be noted that it's much easier to fake a full beard than a short stubbly one, or even a goatee. I imagine that they must have recently experienced a rash of 12-year-olds with fake beards recently trying to rent m-rated games, and they are probably being extra cautious under the orders of the manager. The next time your there, give your beard a few tugs (or better yet let them tug it themselves!) and you should receive far better service.:oldman:

Does anyone know whether blockbuster scrapped their perrenial 4/5 for $20 $10 dollar DVD deal. I was there a few days ago and the only signs up were of the 2 for $20 $15 or under deal.

Thats the thing though my regular ID had me with a beard.

WTF? Who fakes a beard to rent an R-rated movie? If you're gonna go to all that trouble, at least go buy some beer, amiright?

Nope, definitely still going on. My favorites are the older signs we have that say "LIMITED TIME ONLY", even though it's been running since I started working there.

Ha, those BBV machines will probably be available within a year. Maybe GS can buy them in liquidation! ;)

I was wondering this as well. I might swing by there later if I don't hear anything. It's just a 20 minute drive so I didn't want to go for no reason.

You'll generally see them in a clear translucent case.

Thanks for the heads up HB. I still have 4 local BBVs that still sell games so if you can let us know when your store gets some in, I'll do some stops.

So, here's an interesting issue... According to the BBVs around here the ones that get these prepacks are the ones with really good used games sales. There is one store about 40 miles from me that got a ton of them last summer and they said it was because they sell many times more used games than the other BBV in my metro area. But now with them sending off nearly all their used games what metric will they use to determine who gets the prepacks? I guess they can still go off past sales. Whatever, I still can't believe they ditched most of their used games. Someone out there has to know what sort of deal they got for them. I really want to know!

Here's hoping they send some to everyone!
So what is a prepack exactly?
See post #263 (the previous page). I take back what I said about Beaverton - they just changed how they organized used games. All systems still have some, just on the racks separately. I went yesterday so I don't know about prepacks.
Ive gone through post after post and still dont know what a prepack is
What is a prepack? It's a previous rental that was reported as defective and sent back to the distribution center to get refurbished. They come in these clear/whiteish plastic cases with no cover art or instruction manual.
B1G1 on all previously played games priced at $14.99 or lower should be starting up 6/28. I'm not sure how long it will go for yet, or if all stores will be doing it. I just happened to see it listed today as one of the things going on this month in at least some stores. In other words, call before you head out. Sorry I don't have more info on the B1G1 right now :( I just wanted to give a small heads up here so CAG'ers can jump on it right away tomorrow and beat the impulse/casual shoppers that trickle in during the evening.

I asked an employee and he said the $9.99 prepack Wii/360 games that stores received should be included in this deal since they ring up under their respective game system's revenue department in the POS.

The store I go to in southern MN initially had New Super Mario Bros, a few Mario Karts, and a couple Super Mario Galaxies included in their prepack selection (all Wii). Only a couple Mario Karts are left, but it might be worth calling other stores to check what they've still got.

YMMV: the last few stores I've been at were pretty nice about making game cases for the prepack games they would occasionally get, but it depends on if they have extra case artwork and/or manuals laying around for the game(s) you want. Never hurts to ask :)

Wow and basically every store wiped out the used game section.. my local stores have nothing that would qualify for this if it happens...

I have been out of touch with Blockbuster since the last B1G1. I guess will need to stop by some tomorrow after work. Is this sale for all stores or only a YMMV sort of thing.

Not 100% sure yet, since I just found out about it tonight. He said the store manager will be there tomorrow though, so I'll ask him. Your best bet would be to call ahead of time. I can try to get an update here when I get home from work around 4pm central.

I think the BBV by me still sells used games and the usually get the prepacks. I hope I can wake up early tomorrow to check.
