Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Blockbusters Facebook promo page:
http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Went to 2 more stores in Cypress today and didn't have much of anything. Although I did find JCVD on Blu-Ray for $7. Guess it wasn't a total waste.

Went to the local BBV in Chesterfield,MO yesterday and asked as didn't see ANY games or signage. I asked the young lad behind the counter if they were participating. He said yeah we are I just haven't gotten around to getting the signs and games out yet. He proceeded to pull out a stack of about 20 games and set them in front of me and says take a look and see if there is anything you want. Pretty much what everyone else is listing here, nothing special that I didn't already have. Oh well... will keep looking. Guess it didn't hurt to ask.
This sucks, I fucking love hoarders.
How do you know he was hoarding and not reselling? Just curious.
Thanks. I thought it worked that way at BBV, so I'll just hope your store doesn't have the games I'm hoping will drop in stock. Mainly Darksiders, Dante's Inferno, GoW Collection, ME2, etc. The store by my house is really good about always keeping prices up to date so I'll check there tonight.
i want those too!

Checked the BBV that is on top of price changes and it was the same as Hawaiiboy's store, only UFC 2010 dropped to 29.99. Nothing else. I know a guy who works there and he's waiting on a few of the same games as me. Hopefully this weekend. On the other hand they have so many of Bioshock 2, ME2, Darksiders, Bayonetta, etc that they will last until the next B1G1 (if they don't close) and I've got plenty to play in the meantime.

Anyway, this store which rarely gets POGs got some new ones that weren't there last Wednesday. Only a handful with a date of 7-20-10 and most were sports, but I picked up NCAA 2010 and Destroy All Humans Path of Furon. Figured $5 was right for a college football game as I don't have to have the most up to date game and despite the reviews I wanted to try out the new DAH. Too bad I finally got around starting a Madden 10 franchise a couple weeks ago cause now I can't import the rosters from NCAA.

I went to 6 more stores tonight. I think I'm at 20+ stores I've visited for this sale. A few stores I've never been to before. Anyway, here's my haul for tonight:

Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings - Wii - 9.99
Farcry Vengence - Wii 9.99
Mario and Sonic at the Olympics - Wii - 9.99
UFC 2010 - 360 - 6.99

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga - 360 - 14.99
Get a xl after the drop for all those ds games!
Hell yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I have a couple more DS and PSP games I've collected during other BBV B1G1's and from Target. Do you think there will be a significant drop when the 3DS releases? How much do u think previous DS versions will cost?

If I could get a DS XL for around $100 to $120, I'd probably buy it. I just haven't because I already have an iphone and I don't even play games on that. It would be a completely different story if I still rode the bus or train or something to school. The only time I'd really play it is on long trips when I'm not driving.

I went to a store tonight and found a KH 265/2 Days also.
I was about to buy Lego Rock Band Wii and Brutal Legend PS3 but then they didn't actually have Lego Rock Band. I hate it when they do that :bomb:.

The interesting thing was the the asst. manager of a HWV store that used to have an awesome selection during their $5 used games sales is now a manager at this BBV. Good to see him get a job after all that.

Just a heads up, if you're looking for a DSi XL, they've popped up on Amazon Warehouse Deals for as low as $110 (I believe it was a XL that was this low anyways) if you're okay with it being "used".

I couldn't find anything 14.99 to go with KH 265/2 days. I almost bought both copies to flip to Amazon, but it seems like more trouble than it's worth.
Are u keeping it or flipping it if you don't mind me asking?

That's good to hear about a good HWV employee finding work. I also know BBV employees that have told me they used to work at HWV. I guess if you're a good worker with a good reputation, u will find work. Many of the BBV's I visited have a "Now hiring" sign on the door. In fact, a customer was inquiring about applying while I was in one of the stores last night.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to take a look at that. If the screen isn't scratched, I don't care too much about it being used.
So much for saving my Amazon credit for the Star Wars Blu Ray set. ;)

Well, since other mods are deleting posts that talk about such stuff, I'll just keep it to myself ;). Lets just say that I didn't really have any specific plan for it, but it just seemed a waste to let it sit there when it is only $7.50. I got Endless Ocean Blue World along with it. But yeah, I already have the game (from the last B1G1, actually). But, you know, the sale's been going on for a week so anything is fair game now at at this point.

Star Wars Blu Ray set, you say? I may have to look into that - though I really have a hard time spending any real amount of money on movies. I still have blu ray movies I haven't even opened yet.

They haven't announced a price for the Star Wars Blu Ray set, but I'm guessing the MSRP will be somewhere around 179.99. I already preordered the Back to the Future Blu Ray set, Beauty and the Beast, COD Black Ops Hardened Ed, and I bought a bunch of other stuff, so my Amazon credit is going fast.

My backlog of Blu rays is really ridiculous as well. Hell, I still have blu rays from the Gamestop, Buy 3, get 4 sale a couple years back that I haven't watched yet.
Blast you BBV! Mass Effect 2 and Bayonetta alludes me for a 1 time price of 15$ once again!
You meant elude :)

I want both of these for $15 too.

I hope there are some left in the next B1G1.

Went to 4 stores (Las Vegas, NV west side) - got
Rogue warrior and Chaotic shadow warriors for $10
Red Faction Guerrilla and Street Fighter 4 for $15
Left alot of Wii games, GTA 4, Dark Void, Def Icon, Iron man, and older 3+ old
sports games on the shelf (most 10 to 15 dollars, some as low as 5)
COD, Bad Company, Bayonetta, Final Fantasy, etc - all still in the 30 to 40 dollar range even though Best buy has a sale of Bayonetta and Splinter Cell Conviction for 20)

Note - I tried to use best buy coupon $15 in gamer mag to reduce price of SC conviction to $5 bucks but sales girl said no. Will try in another store and time.

I picked up Super Mario Galaxy for Wii and Dark Void for 360 yesterday. 90% of the game cases didn't have manuals in them, so I didn't bother with anything else.

Thanks to Hawaiiboy for the heads up on the DS Lites being dropped to $79.99. However I was told earlier today(after finding a store with not one but two DS Lites in stock)that it was a promotion and NOT a clearance and as such it was active for employees for 5 days to a week and then customers for FOUR measly mf'n days and that it ENDED SUNDAY.:bomb::bomb::bomb:

Mother bleeping fucker!!

I got so excited when I saw the two systems sitting on the back counter by the window and I swear I felt my heart miss a beat, since I figured I'd never find one of them in stock.

Oh well. I had them price check both systems, total out the transaction and everything on both just for the hell of it. No dice. Just my luck too.

Ahh man that sucks.. the day before this price was live I called every store within reasonable driving and all were out so it was a lost cause from the go here

Should I say it? NEVER call on a deal.

At first I thought that the store that had them was bullshitting me about it being a temporary price drop, but after stopping at another store(that was long sold out of them)on the way home they verified the information for me.

Like I said, I figured there was some sort of catch to it. Though I was shocked to find a store with two of them still in stock after the $50 price drop for almost two weeks.

I know if I were working there I would've called up a couple friends and had them snap up the two remaining systems since it was a hell of a deal.

Trust me calling the store was not going to ruin any deal for myself.. these stores have been picked clean of everything so long that I kinda take thoer word for it when they say they dont have anything...

A quote that was near and dear to my former El Hoardo heart when I first joined CAG.

"My deals are my deals and your deals are your deals unless I get there first, then they're my deals too.";)

I used to roam the Tri-State(PA/NY/NJ) area going 75-100+ miles one way from my house every other day when I first started on CAG.

I'm from Northeastern PA but I was routinely hitting up Syracuse, Elmira, Poughkeepsie, Ithaca, Harrisburg, Atlantic City, Parsippany, Paramus, Philadelphia, Bloomsburg, State College and so on in all directions from my home area.

I even managed to swing a trip up into CT from PA in one day the one time. I'm still angry I didn't jump on the chance I was given quicker then(take all of the pennied guides from the one store at the one mall right over the NY/CT line). Considering there were 500+ in just the one GS store I would've probably broken the shocks/springs on my friends car trying to lug them all home.

Of course gas was a tad cheaper then and I had the help of a dear friend who felt we might be able to make a business out of everything I was buying up. Funnier still was how every day trip with my friend(ex gf I was still friendly with)turned into a CAG shopping experience by day's end.

It was kinda sad really, since for a while I knew more about the side roads in areas I was hitting outta my own area than I did the streets in my own city.

Insanity was more like it. If I sat down and calculated all of the gas, tolls and other expenses incurred on all of those jaunts we could've probably paid off her Chrysler Pacifica 2x over by now with what was spent on those treks.

The sickest trip ever though was my EIGHT HOUR ride to Atlantic City from here. Normally that trip going non stop takes THREE hours.

Yeah. Suffice to say she wanted to leave me in some little dinky town just over the PA line in NJ when I wanted to go into a mall after hitting up a Kmart AND a Gamestop up the hill from that Kmart.

yes very true unless......your calling from inside the store (with merchandise in sight)
yes very true unless......your calling from inside the store (with merchandise in sight)
We traced the call, it's coming from inside the store! GET OUT!!!

You know what would be both funny and sad at the same time, would be if you were to walk up to the clerk you're talking to on the phone and ask for the same item in person. They look it up, you see it sitting on the back counter, then yell LIAR and point a finger at them, then just stand there smirking and see if they can put 2+2 together.

Crazy was more like it. But I did get to see some really treacherous winding backroads in NY and NJ states and all sorts of places that if you asked me how to get to them I wouldn't have the foggiest idea of how to get you there.

I never said who paid for most of the gas, now did I? I said I bought lotsa cheap shit to try and resell back then(including 600-700 guides:shock:), but I never said I paid for gas.

Credit cards are a nice thing to have, specially when it's someone else running up the bill.

Mind you I did take a couple treks to Poughkeepsie on my own before, but not in quite a while.

When's the last time you've raided 'Cuse lately IATCG? I just landed into my motherland for a few days time and might gander around lol... from Arizona, now that might be farthest distance if it was purely for a deal ! :D lol anyways happy hunting haha
That explains why I never found much of anything outside of Selinsgrove and Williamsport.. my old stomping grounds. Lol
That and the fact that there's already CAG's out that way. I only ever hit that one mall out near Williamsport(where they just built a Best Buy by it a few years ago)maybe ONE time and that was a quick runthrough. One of the CAG's out that way told me the GS employees told him that they just cleared out 500-700 old pennied guides a few years ago from the back stock rooms. I can only imagine how far back those guides went to have amassed such a huge number of them.

The store in CT that had 500-ish had guides going back to PS1(Brave Fencer Musashi).

It has to be at least a couple of years since I went to the Carousel Mall, Great Northern Mall or even Shoppingtown Mall.

But the last time I was up by Shoppingtown they still had a copy of Juiced 2 for PS3 in the game case at the Kmart right near there, which looks like an old 1970's one.;) The manager at the Best Buy up near there kept trying to question me about how I knew about penny guides as I was walking out with 30-40 of them per trip.

Like I said, once I got used to an area I would take little side treks down the backroads and try to find some new areas to raid.

I can still remember pulling into the parking lot of the one Best Buy up in Monroe at 10 to 9pm and screeching to a halt in a parking spot to run in and sift through their shelves.;)

I never did get back to that one, though I'd like to, but if I remember correctly they were pretty strict on guides.

I'm surprised anytime we go up to W'port, the BBV there always has a decent selection.

Saw Splinter Cell: Conviction for $4.99 but some idiot left the game without a anti-theft case and someone stole it. Some woman working there wouldn't honor the sale even though they had 4 or 5 rental copies that never get rented and she attempted to make up some BS excuse.

I agree, I miss that BBV. Always a good selection of something -- whether it's cheap games or cheap movies.

I used to watch that Williamsport Target like a hawk, and I used to work next to the Selinsgrove Target so I'll admit to scoffing up the majority of their deals. Nobody ever shops there because it's "too far back" in that shopping center, plus everyone in that area is a Walmart hobo; so if you're looking for good buys, definitely check it out.

I was at my local BBV and was chatting with the manager .. he said there's a guy that comes in weekly and buys up any of the good disc only titles that are sitting there .. which would be why all I saw were sports games in the $6.99 bin. My first run in on the trail of El Hoardo!

Mine is hit or miss as well. For a while they were doing the b1g1 of all "yellow cased" games. They had tons of stuff for $7 w/no case/manuals. GTA IV, Gears 2, MW GotY, ME all the previous years sports titles, CoD WaW...tons of stuff.

Guess I'll be packing up my 6m old and heading over today, lol.

The best part of IATCG's post is that I'm fairly certain it is my town he is referring to when he says "dinky town just over the PA line in NJ".

I know this sale has gotten a bit slow, but to reinforce the saying that it never hurts to ask.......... I brought up two rentals, a Super Paper Mario and Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands (Wii) and wondered if they were willing or able to convert them to sell. I did not even know if SPM would be $14.99 or not, but I thought it might be. They checked it out and I walked out with complete copies in excellent condition. I've been kicking myself for passing on SPM when I could have bought it for $25 in GameCrazy credit and this finally makes up for it.

Went to BB today. Plenty of games under $15, but no signs indicating a sale; nothing I wanted anyway. I did, however, pick up a few dvds and a blu-ray and to my astonishment received a PLASTIC BAG upon checkout! Not an official Blockbuster plastic bag, but a sturdy one none-the-less.

I repeat PLASTIC BAGS ARE BACK AT BB! I recommend this info be added to the thread title, who's with me?
