What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I went to one of the bigger BBVs in the richy-rich area and they were 'splodin with blu-rays. I got Ponyo (x 2), Coraline, Speed Racer, and Bolt.

Picked up:

Scott Pilgrim
Star Trek
Watchmen DC 2 disc set (marked up wrong as $12.99 but counted towards the sale)

No Ponyo by me. Did have one copy of Coraline left though, but the S Pilgrim I got was the last one too. Thanks Hawaiiboy for the info!

I can confirm on the sale, just had my wife ask about it while she was there. She said buy one get one $15 or less and $3 movies for the Memorial Day weekend.

Ha ! My instincts were right. I knew there would be a buy 1 get 1 free sale. That's why I held off at buying blurays during this sale

Funniest quote ever!

Ok I read every page since the sale started, with only a few mentions of normal bluray cases. Where is everyone buying cheap replacement bluray cases? Any suggestions for non-bulk orders?

I don't understand you guys. Why don't you ask the BB employees for the original bluray cases when you're buying the used blurays? Don't you guys ask for the original PS3, Wii, Xbox360, etc cases when you buy used games?

Everytime I ask the BB employees at multi locations, they either looks under the counter/cabinet or go to the back room and get whatever cases to match what I just bought. The only time they don't do this is when there is a long line....then I still buy the items and just wait until the line is gone, then ask.

I say something like "I hate to bother you, but do you think you can find the original case for these games/blurays? I would really appreciate."

I just bought 10 blurays with the generic BB cases and got 10 original cases. I bring the generic cases back to BB for recycling....they usually say they don't need them, but still take them.

PS-Just realized that by sharing this, my BB stores might run out of original case. Good luck all.

At least when I was working at BB they quit sending us the bluray cases when they rolled out bluray nationally, they were shipped in the standard locking dvd cases after that.

On a side not, I worked at a trial store that had HD-DVDs and Blurays for a while. We had to lock them in plastic cases we normally used for games. People had a field day grabbing a few going to a corner of the store and slicing them open with a knife in five seconds and dropping the case. We were super happy when they started coming in normal cases.

Why don't we ask for cases? Oh my god, why has no one ever thought about doing that?!

Clearly you haven't been following this thread, or you would have seen the posts talking about the stores telling them that they throw the cases away. That is what I have been told many times. I have asked about Blu Ray cases and game cases (for the generic case games) and am told every single time that they don't have them, whether there is a huge line or if I am the only person in the store. I am typically super-polite when I am dealing with salespeople, so it's not like they just don't want to help me or anything.

Good on you that you are able to get Blu Ray cases, but I cannot.

"Wow, why don't you guys just ask for cases, duh!" Like we're all some kind of morons...
I don't understand you guys. Why don't you ask the BB employees for the original bluray cases when you're buying the used blurays? Don't you guys ask for the original PS3, Wii, Xbox360, etc cases when you buy used games?
Because they don't have them. The blu's get shipped to them from the DC already in the rental cases. I've been told that at multiple locations. If your store has a stash of actual blu cases they give out upon request, well, then I guess your store is special.
Didn't know they kept those original cases.
As you can clearly see above, some people didn't know or ask for the cases.
My post was to remind people that you can ask and get them for free.
I get rejected (rental coversion see below), but I still ask everytime even to the same employees/managers. Ask=chance, don't ask=no chance.

I'm adding YMMV because I don't want more people to get pissed at me.
I didn't know that I was just getting lucky, sorry if I offended you.
Maybe it's not you, it could be the neighborhood or just lazy employees.

I do follow this thread and I heard all the missing cases, missing manuals/artworks, and mislabeled prices.

Just a few things I couldn't believe, but didn't post. I'll post now.
1. If you are missing the manual or artwork for game, grab the rental or display and ask if you can get the missing item....works most of the time on manuals...doesn't work well when the artwork is the display. Also ask if they have them the drawer.
BTW, I even go to other stores to get missing manuals or artwork, if the original store didn't have it.

2. Ask for rental conversions....this is a 3 out of 10 for me....I got the manager to convert a few times and I got a lot "Corp does the conversion, not us" comment.

3. About Cases....see the above posts.

4. During B1G1 sales....when I can't find a good match, I pick whatever games with the same price...buy it...drive to the next location and ask to trade the crappy game with one that I wanted. I did this a lot....and the employees started to recognize me. This works 100% for me (YMMV).
The employees don't even say the "you should return/exchange it at the original store" anymore.

There might be more, but I can't remember and this post is getting long.

Not just one store....at least 3 by me....but sadly 1 is closed now.
I guess it's still YMMV from what people are saying.

Does anybody mind listing the rental only copies that are for sale? I'd like to avoid those. Thanks! So far I think the following titles have only the movies itself and no extras:

500 Days of Summer
Transformers Revenge of the Fallen
Sherlock Holmes
The Box

Ok because i have through a few pages but unable to find the answers but whats the deals on the sales? Also when does the sales end? Thank you all

Oh damn! Somebody stop me. Why did I buy so many Blu-rays? I spent over $80 yesterday for a total of 20 discs. I don't think I even have time to watch all of it. I can't seem to resist these for $4ish each. I think I still have some from the Hollywood Video sales that I still haven't watched yet. At this point, I should just get Netflix or something. How long a subscription of Netflix can I get for $80, 8-months?

Just look at it this way. You really aren't spending any money on these things unless you plan on keeping them. Watch and then sell. You are basically going to end upgetting a lot of these movies for free as you can easily sell them to someone for the same price you paid.

it looks like my BBV that closed down is open again.... about a month ago the store was empty with no posters in the windows or anything... drove by today and their were tons of posters advertising stuff on the windows, wth?

edit/update: i stopped in this store today and they said they opened back up because they were the most profitable store in the area i guess. the store had no one in it as usual though, and all the used games are gone. and there was no 5 for $20 deal advertised. still, it's good to see it back open as i've gotten lots of good deals there over the years.
Thanks for the heads up on ponyo and having a search hawaiiboy. Although the BBs in my area are few and far between now.

Eeeeeked out 5 at the La Habra BB
Moon
Red Cliff 1 and 2

Aww, so there WAS a copy of Moon there... Good job beating me to it.

I hit the jackpot at mine today. I went and bought 10, might be returning for another 5 sometime soon.

Hurt Locker
The Messenger
The Road
Terminator 3
Terminator Salvation
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Up in the Air
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Tropic Thunder
No Country for Old Men

I saw a few things I might actually pick up during the 5/$20 BR sale, assuming I can find a cheap player for them since I have never and will never use my game consoles to play movies.

But the no real BR cases would probably bug me, so maybe I'll just stick to games for this sale period again.

I only saw :ps3:Singularity and :wii:Toy Story Mania that I might pick up from the bogo that's upcoming. Otherwise there was jack and shit. I hope there are some price drops during the sale(namely Fallout New Vegas), since they had a shitton of copies sitting on the shelves.

Awesome sale, thanks to HawaiiBoy, io and everyone that contributes to this thread..I picked up 5 Blu Rays..

For me and the wife:

The Fall
Dawn of the Dead
JCVD

For my son:

Alice in Wonderland
Scooby Doo and some random subtitle

LOL! Know your local competition!

Dont know what side of la habra you are on, but if you are willing to drive i think i saw moon at both the fullerton (harbor and orangethorpe) and at the yorba linda bbv (rose and ?) thursday night.

Those are the only bbvs left in my willing to drive area. Found out both the whittier ones are closed. Lean pickings now in North OC\ south La counties.
Hopefully you have an xbox360 so we are not competing for the same vid games next week.
