ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

The whole district is- Tampa was 1st last week thanks to the 8 copies of Smash that I picked up. Also on a similar note, nearly all the Beowulf's I kunaied are gone as well. Also, it's $16.99 and doesn't count for the sale.
 
I was able to find complete/mint Me & My Katamari along with DDR Ultramix 3. I couldn't justify picking up any other two for 14.99 with the way 360 game prices have been dropping recently. I may have to bite on DDR Ultramix 2 later on depending on if any new games are added to the pile. Chances are it'll be sold though.
 
Stopped by my local BB last night and flipped two copes of Jericho PS3 for $30 each. I was going to buy a copy of Ratchet and Clank PS3, but they coudn't find any copies despite having a display box and an inventory count calling for two copies.
On the used front they had the buy 1 get 1 deal which was half tempting considering Earth Defense Force was $10, but it was disc only. Nothing else worth noting, aside from an obvious drop in the prices for some of the 360 titles.
 
So did Jerico go up from $26? Damn Kunai, I can only afford to buy 2 or 3 clearance target titles at once, that and I don't need them anymore because I finally got my ps3, don't need as much credit now that I have the console trifecta...
 
I went into a local blockbuster on Monday and they knew nothing of the sale and acted like I was crazy, even though they knew gamerushes were doing the sale and they were not a privately owned store. One thing that got me really pissed was they had a decent selection and after I asked they both were looking around the game section picking up some of the used games.

When I asked them to scan the 6 games I picked out to see if they come up b1g1 they said "Oh no way is that going to work, we do not have that sale." and he refused to scan my games.

When I asked for the manager he said he was the manager (made me think of the PopCopies sketch). So I left. What an ass.
 
I checked my one store for the B1G1....I got nothing, but they had FlatOut, Quake and Prey...those were the only games that seemed decent. Nothing good for PSP. They did have GTA:LC, but I already own that.

My GR had a lot less to pick from compared to a few weeks ago, but there was no indication of the sale going on. They were busy, I was in a hurry, and nothing really jumped out at me as being worth waiting and encountering a possible hassle of explaining the sale etc. So I'll go back for Brain Age and Street Fighter AC, maybe Tron Xbox and Psi Ops.

For those looking for PS3 stuff, I saw one PS3 game for 14.99: Enchanted Arms. I probably traded in all three copies back when it was a good flip last summer.

Well, my Biggest. Flip. Ever. was spending spending $250 in GameRush credit and making $1250 back in credit the next day. Then there were the 40+ Hour of Victory, 40+ Marvel Ultimate Alliance, 40+ Forza 2, 40+ Beowulf, 40+ Darkness, plus the clearance titles and everything else.

How do you not get your account flagged. I think I will just stick to making around 500 a month in profit. Just started two months ago and have just over a 1000 dollars in credit (400 investment). Wanting to buy a ps3 but want to wait untill BB gets dual shock. Anyway, I cant touch you Master Djkunai

This isn't a pissing contest. I doubt you or anyone else will ever top djkunai. First, you got to have the balls to even attempt it. Second, you have to be well-connected with BB/GR personnel that will even let you do what djkunai does/did. Last, you must be also to replicate and on occasion, exceed your previous flip.

I say djkunai is the king of all BB/GR flippers.

Yeah!! He may be a lucky SOB, right place, right time, right attitude, but he's a selfish bastard when it comes to sharing with the CAG community. Ask him how many Jericho's he left in that previous haul. If its more than 0 I would be shocked.

Any advice on how to go about trading into 1 blockbuster? Should I save up titles or go in everyday with a few games? Right now I have Juiced 2, Avatar, NHL2K8, Jericho (wont scan), gears of war (dont know if im gonna trade), bee movie!

Wish I could trade at a bunch of BB....

my best deals came from a mom and pops store 3 years ago where I bought Shining Force 3, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Suikoden II all brand new for the grand total of $21.49.

I made $975 off those 3 games.

I was just going to say that was nice, for a change, that people seem to be finding games from a Blockbuster/GR sale that they actually want for themselves. It has broken up the non-stop talk of massive credit building just a bit ;). It's always nice to have something to spend that credit on, after all.

I picked up some stuff the other day, but today, oh, today, I had fun going to every BlockBuster I could, dropping off a single The Darkness and leaving with 4-6 games.

I'll make a larger post later, but I went through about 8 copies of Darkness in the past 72 hours, and the highlight was probably the $15 Fatal Frame 2 with free Zone of the Enders 2, and the fact that I added 8 360 games, 8 Cube games, 4 Xbox games, and 6 PS2 games to my collection, as well as built up $115 in BB credit, with six games left over that, once flipped, will pretty much cover all expenses except time and gas.

I also located a franchise BlockBuster with a 60 Gig PS3 for $450. =D

I'm probably going to head back to GC on my way back to campus to get some more flippables.

Haven't you already been banned from most of your stores? I go maybe once a week (never more), and trade in large increments. Always one copy per game per store per week, and I have never had a problem, even when I was printing out covers for the MUA/Forza2 trades.

Also, good luck tryin to beat out Kunai...thats a battle I wouldn't even attempt.

- I've yet to physically see Earth Defence at all anywhere around here, new/used/sale/$10/$60/bb/cc/whatever. Haven't been trying REALLY hard, but been keeping an eye out at multiple stores. Wouldn't even know about it except buzz on forums and cheap price. Probably sux anyway.

OK, well, I stopped by and it was just too tempting so I picked up a couple of 360 games for $9.99 total: Top Spin 2 and Earth Defense Force 2017. I keep hearing about EDF here on CAG and I figured for $5 (or about $2 in real money) I might as well give it a shot. Neither is mint but they did have the manuals, so not too bad.

It is really too bad the GS trade-in promo ended because they had some more copies of these along with a few other $9.99 and $14.99 360 games.

Also, big news: they had signs up for [highlight]Mario Kart Wii preorders[/highlight] so I dropped $5 on that!
