ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
It's getting confusing with all of the GS quotes being mixed in here, but FIFA 07 gets 22 TIV at Blockbuster/Gamerush not at Gamestop.
Damn, with the rumored B2G1 sale at Gamestop, I was hoping to flip credit to GS from BBV.
How long does it take to get games from gamestop online? I'm thinking about ordering a couple strangleholds since there isn't a gs here.
You may as well wait for tomorrow to make sure they don't drop.

Stranglehold PS3 is your friend.
Stranglehold PS3 is your friend.
No that works the other way... GS---> BB/GR ... he wants to transfer BB/GR credit to GS credit.
I've been flipping for several hours- and I'm not done yet. Details later. Epic day indeed.
Please post asap. I'd love to read about what you did. :)
No that works the other way... GS---> BB/GR ... he wants to transfer BB/GR credit to GS credit.
Right.

But I guess if Stranglehold is worth +20, a couple flips of that would be the same as B2G1 free at GS.

I'm thinking:

Ninja Gaiden
Hulk
Lego Indiana Jones
Today while at BB, saw new signs for B1G1 ($14.99 and under) behind the counter. So be on the look out.
Holy freakin' !@#$...

If that is true this will the perfect time to xfer my Blockbuster credit to GS. I was going to do it anyway, but that makes it all the sweeter.

As it is, tonight, for a trial run, I bought Beautiful Katamari, EDF, MtR, and Spiderman 3 for $36.96 at Blockbuster and got a total of $43.10 from those after bonus and Edge. I'll be a bit pissed if those would have cost me just $19.98 as early as tomorrow. This was at my local store so maybe I can get a price adjustment/refund - very YMMV of course but it is possible.

But I can hit up 6 or 7 other Blockbusters for those same games (and PotC, Chromehounds, Bullet Witch, Monster Madness, and I'm sure there's more) if a B1G1 free under $14.99 happens. We can expand the list to include those $14.99 games, too, which otherwise wouldn't be worth it.

So, just to summarize, here's what we have so far:

Game: BB price -> GS price with Edge+bonus
:360:
Beautiful Katamari: $9.99 -> $11.60
Bullet Witch: $9.99? -> $9.40
Chromehounds: $9.99? -> $8.30
Earth Defense Force: $9.99 -> $10.50
Meet The Robinsons: $6.99 -> $10.50
Spiderman 3: $9.99 -> $10.50
Top Spin 2: $9.99? -> $9.40

I also noticed Sonic Secret Rings was $14.99 and I think someone reported that as trading for $9 before bonus (so $14.90 after). It is a decent flip now and an excellent one if B1G1 $14.99 or under happens! My store had at least 3 of these as they overstocked that for rent. Usually this means it happened at every other store as well so there is some great potential there. Plus we'd be giving back to BB by getting rid of their overstock ;). C'mon, Blockbuster, help us out with the B1G1 sale!

Other possibilities, especially with a B1G1: Cars, Virtua Tennis 3, Fuzion Frenzy 2 (not sure what these sell for at BB, but I assume $9.99-$14.99).

I'm sure we'll get a big update of titles as soon as djkunai reports in ;). It really helps to know what the actual BB prices are because I noticed a few that my store had marked higher than others have reported (eg, Monster Madness marked $14.99 instead of the $9.99 someone else mentioned). I was quote shocked to see Beautiful Katamari at just $9.99 - awesome price for that game. I hope everyone who doesn't already have it picks one up for themselves!

Talked to the helpful ladies at my local GR and told me that the MGS4 PS3 Bundle would be coming out this week on the 12. I'll be picking it up just in time for my phoenix trip on friday =)
Katamari's down to $9.99? I'll add that to the list of "games I want to play but not at full price".
Yeah, I had no idea but someone else mentioned it a few pages back as a good GS flipper so when I saw it at my store I snagged it. (I already have the game of course - bought at full price from Gamecrazy with no regrets).

At that cheap in BB credit plus the cheap points cards any CAG should have from Target to get all the DLC, it makes it a no-brainer purchase IMO.

did I miss something, how did you get cheap points cards from target?

oh you used the cuoupon for the points. my target wouldnt let me use it because it wasnt "software". I cant really complain though I got a few free games out of it.
oh you used the cuoupon for the points. my target wouldnt let me use it because it wasnt "software". I cant really complain though I got a few free games out of it.
Well, for sure it was hit or miss - didn't work well for me at the beginning but it seemed to get easier for some reason later on. Hell, I had a problem with the $5 off toys coupon tonight (which is meant to be printed) and I was even buying toys (though not $25 worth even though I had games that made it go over that amount).

But yeah, if you got cheap games to trade to Blockbuster, buy some cards there. Result = cheap points cards from Target, just in a different way ;).

On another note:
C'mon djkunai, I know you are done flipping now as it is 1am Pacific. Spill the details!
what are some good credit builders right now?
As of yesterday Stranglehold PS3 (regular/CE) both were 36
and Sega Tennis PS3/Wii 30 and 360 28.50

It is likely that they all dropped today, since today is their drop day (once a week). Does anyone know when they implement new deals (b1g1)? Just curious if there will be any crossover with the GS deal.

I saw Cars for $14.99 at a local BB, and Virtua Tennis 3 for $9.99.

Good point. If anyone manages to trade in Stranglehold today at BB, please let us know.

I can almost guarantee that Stranglehold didn't hold.

I saw it for sale at Blockbuster last night for $39.99

I noticed a bunch of games marked cheaper than they were previously, so I think there was a mass adjustment.

One quote that I got was:

:ps3: Medal of Honor: Vanguard - $16 TIV (this was $30 last week)

Odd thing was I was there at 9:30pm and the change in trade in value had already taken place. Previously I was safe through all of Monday (I live in the Midwest).

Please, someone call up and check on Stranglehold and Sega Superstar Tennis in the next half hour. I would love to know before I head out. I've called four Blockbusters, and they all gave me a hard time about not giving out trade-in values over the phone. Thanks!

I'm in TX, but I just called a store in GA since they're already open. He quoted $33 for PS3 Stranglehold. A drop of $3 ain't bad, assuming he's correct. Pretty sure he looked it up properly b/c he even asked "regular or collector's edition?" Also, Spiderwick Chron. for Wii held at $30 (which is great, because my Amazon DOTD order is just now shipping today or tomorrow). And here it is, nicely formatted for those opposed to reading:

TIV phone quotes as of just now:

Stranglehold (PS3) - $33
Spiderwick Chronicles (Wii) - $30

....and on a side note, all you folks who are always saying, "what's the TIV of _____?".... seriously, pick up the phone and call if you're able to, its not hard. Most cell phones have free long distance, so call an east cost store if its still early morning and if your local store won't give phone quotes...... call a different store. If every person who posted "whats the value of such and such" would just call a store and get a couple of quotes, A) you'll know the value sooner and B) the thread won't get cluttered with requests. Not ranting or anything, just sayin'. Maybe I need another cup of coffee.

EDIT: p.s. - to any of you who might be new-ish, don't ask for more than 2-3 quotes over the phone at once as it'll irk the employees. Also, they're obviously going to be less likely to give out quotes if they're busy/understaffed when you call.

Can any Blockbuster employees who post here please look into this and report on the accuracy of this claim? Preferably, when it would start if you can find that out. If it overlaps with the reported Gamestop B2G1, it would obviously totally rock.
Got FIFA 07 at Kmart for $5. Traded in at BBV for $19.

Battlestations Midway is worth $12 I think.
Was this today? So Fifa 07 is getting $19? Wow thats crazy...is that PS3 or Xbox360?

Also for anyone who has Amazon Prime... Spiderwick Chronicles for Wii is 14.99 free 2 day shipping (prime).

$14.99----> $30

Not bad.

Today. and it's the 360.

I just posted these values over in the Gamestop $10 bonus thread but figured it might be helpful here. I don't know how much these games cost used at BB/GR, but some or all of them might be helpful in moving credit from BB to Gamestop.

Again, these are GAMESTOP trade in values, so there's no confusion:

title - base trade in (total w/ Edge and $5 bonus)

Wii:
Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree - $14 ($20.40)
Bleach: Shattered Blade - $12 ($18.20)
Cooking Mama: Cook Off - $11 (17.10)
Rayman Raving Rabbids 1 - $6 ($11.60)
Soul Calibur Legends - $5 ($10.50)
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz - $6 ($11.60)
Today. and it's the 360.
Nice thanks. I just got SC from amazon to flip. So thats an easy double your money.

I wonder what else would be good.

Im gonna have to go check out my Kmart and Sears today to see if theres anything interesting.

American Idol Karaoke (360) $35

Grabbed a Meet the Robinsons for $6.99 and Katamari for $9.99.
Hearing good things about Kat.. but they will probably go to Gamestop with all the Target crap games.
Holding off on too much Blockbuster used, hopefully the b1g1 will start soon.

As the hiring manager at my store, here's a couple things to help those of you looking to get a job at BBV-

1) Make sure the store you're applying to has an opening. If there's nothing available, you're application will just get dropped in the "6 months before I can throw this out" file

2) If you applied more than 3 weeks ago, reapply. We just changed which company we're using to process applications. In the changeover we lost all the old ones.

3) It helps if they know you where you are applying. Apply at a store where you do your trading/renting (and you're in good standing... if they've banned your trading, you're wasting your time). Follow up on your application by going in a couple days after applying and ask for the hiring manager. Introduce yourself so they can put a face with your application. Assuming you don't come in dressed/smelling like a bum, you are at LEAST twice as likely to get an interview if they can place a face with your application.

So warner, how do you feel about all the crazy TIVs at blockbuster and flipping? Does it matter to you or is it just corporate policy and you couldn't care less?
