Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

June 25th - July 1st, 50% off used games $19.99 and under

See here for the deal: http://www.blockbuster.com/stores

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

See BlockbusterGuy's thread for a list of titles eligible under (and commonly found at BBV) for the promo:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/310423-blockbuster-video-4th-of-july-sale-bogo/

Coming July 2nd: B1G1 free on games $29.99 and under

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

Dammit, keep it quiet! ;)

I'd be shocked if many people have any 'good' games left near them, and lord knows you don't want to have a stock pile of credit at BlockBuster.

If the value is still 17 for DNF, I might grab a few copies and trade them to the nearby BBV to grab Wii games to donate to a children's hospital for Christmas.
Am I nuts, or did we read some case dealing with rights-limiting pamphlets which were packaged inside of the item (disc/movie) that could not have been read by the consumer until after the package was opened? I took one (maybe 2) IP classes during my entire 3 years and that was 12 years ago now so I only have vague recollections about this stuff.
No, that kind of thing does exist. They are the shrinkwrap/EULA cases, and there's been some back and forth regarding what companies are able to do with them (because you don't actually see the language until after you've bought and opened the product), if I recall correctly. But that's a bit different than disclaimers which purport to tell you what your rights are, but incorrectly do so. EULAs are licenses which companies require you to agree to before using their product. It's a shady practice at times, but I believe courts have generally upheld them.

True. My stores on completely cleaned out of any games actually worth buying, keeping, trading, or giving away as gifts. I did see a WWE 2011 in a generic case and a Fallout New Vegas in a generic case, so they weren't completely out of $14.99 games.

There's still pre-viewed blu-rays, and new blu-rays but that selection has dwindled down a great amount. I can't get myself to buy any pre-viewed blurays right now because I remember what a great deal the 5 for $20 deal was on used blu rays and now it's like 3 for $20, 5 for $30 also I guess? My CAGness impedes me.

I'm in the same boat, I cleared out all the local stores and hit up a few out of town ones so nothing really to get other than movies. However, for $10 you're getting $34 which can get 5 blu-rays. That's 5 for $10 which is even better than 5 for $20

This is pretty interesting. I guess BBV is a little desperate and is trying prolong the life of B&M video rentals any way they can. There are so many streaming options available these days that its humorous to me if anyone would actually try to sue BBV for what they are doing.
I'm very interested in cyberlaw and learning more about IP applies digitally.

The Blockbuster Thread = Genuinely interesting way to learn about intellectual property law. :)
Also do we have the trade in value for Disneyland Kinect? I have one left. I could return it, but if it's decent at BBV, I might just take it there.
Don't quote me on this, but I believe the highest TIV possible is around $25 and I believe that would be for a $60 MSRP game.

I suppose the Disneyland Kinect game was less than $60 MSRP and cost $19.99 at BB, so you may end up losing money trading it in at BBV.

Hawaiiboy will know what to do.

Except that for some(i.e. me) who are too cheap/broke to pay for a better internet connection the streaming would become the stuttering from the lack of bandwidth. Twenty bones a month is my upper limit for internet service. I still REFUSE to pay anything over.:booty:

So as long as cheap physical media formats continue to exist I shall remain happy.;)

Beginning today and running til at least the end of the year you get a free $5 gift card for each pre-viewed bundle you buy (either 3 for $20 or 5 for $30). The gift card can't be used in the same transaction.

If you happen to be a combo pass member you get $10 in gift cards for each pre viewed bundle from 12/8-12/11.

Holy carp. Too bad mine has nothing left :(.

hotdamn. This will be icing on the cake if Dukes tic is still $17.

Just ordered 4 dukes from Bestbuy. I was scoping out my favorite Blockbuster a couple nights ago and still has most of the decent games left. It's not a very busy store.

They definitely rearranged some stuff at my store...but where they normally keep the games they took down all the signs (which is to say they usually keep the ps3 games on the same shelf as the rentals, etc). The only place I saw signs was a new rack they put up with a bunch of old really cheap, crappy movies.

Looking around I couldn't find any under 14.99 games, not even crappy ones, so either they are wiped out or they moved the games that qualify some place else. I guess I should have just asked, but I was in a hurry.

Forgive my ignorance: Can you trade in multiples of the same game in one transaction? If so, is there a maximum number they allow, like how Amazon only allows 3 copies of the same game per year?

Totally YMMV, so most likely no. As for Amazon, they changed it to 2 copies some time ago.
Just took advantage of the $5 gc deal...had no idea it was going on till the employee told me about it. Sweet!
Exact same thing. He asked me what box I would like. Said no. Then he said its for free. Said ok whatever and chose one. Then he said is this gift card alright. I said I didn't want one. Laughingly he said "Dude it's free again".

Made my day because I had no idea. Kinda pissed though now that I saw if I would have waited I would have gotten an extra $5 tommorow as I am a pass member. Oh well just keep telling myself if I wait a day they probably would have been gone.
Do they advertise with signage in-store that they do this? I imagine that it's just for Warner Bros. movies since they can't buy those at the wholesale/distributor level for 28 days post-release.
The last one I think they did was Super 8. I saw a sign for that one. Once they hit a certain number though they cut it off and then you have to deal with returning all your leftovers. I didn't see signs for any of the previous movies. Cars 2 was one. Stupid Crazy Love also I think.
Is there an up to date list on what the trade in values are at blockbuster? My local one has dead space 2 and possibly duke nukem iirc.
17 for DNF just went 30 minutes ago. DS2 should be $7 as that is half of what it sells for in store ($14.99 to buy) which is the normal guideline.

So sad I'm down to 1 BBV in town and 1 in the next town over.

You should have gotten $10 today since ur a pass customer. I edited my last post to reflect 12/8-12/11.

The games are supposed to be mixed in on the tables with the pre viewed movies. They want all the DVDs, blus and games $14.99 and under all mixed together.

Man now I can't use the excuse I gave. If I went in and said I should have gotten the $10 instead of $5 would they be able to do that?

Yeah I would think they would give it to you since that was supposed to what u got. Did you buy the movies on your pass account? If so then theyll probably give it to you
Yeah I would think they would give it to you since that was supposed to what u got. Did you buy the movies on your pass account? If so then theyll probably give it to you
Yes and the pass account was at that store (technically). Would it matter if the pass account was at another store, but that store closed an was absorbed by this one. They specifically told me that the pass account would continue at this store and have exchanged movies on the pass account at this store

My BBV is right down the road, so I went in and he let me trade in both games. Apparently the credit is good only at that location? Bummer.
resisted the urge to pick up 1700 dukes and buy a local blockbuster with my cred.
Nice try, we know that BBY wouldnt sell you that many at such a low price.

I know the feeling. Only got 1200. Guess I will have to do with just owning 70% of a BBV.

Conversely to the above poster, BBY was more than happy to sell all their garbage to me for $5 a piece.

One idiot employee. Most Best Buy employees know that they are supposed to match BestBuy.com prices.

I mean it is in the first line of their PM policy which is a 10' high billboard over at the CS desk...

I wonder if this guy could read or if they have those "special" register buttons like they do at McDs with just pictures

Hey HawaiiBoy, do you happen to work tomorrow and could shoot us an update if Duke Nukem held in the morning?

I don't feel like driving out tonight; but I might just do in-store pickup for some Dukes and grab them tomorrow if the value holds. If they don't, I can just not pick them up.

Thanks!

 This has just renewed my interest in going to BBV with my copies of Hunted and Duke Nukem Forever to trade in to grab another 5 pack.:D

Damn you HB for being so up to date on the newest promos, yet bless you for all of the money you've both saved and made me over the years.:bomb:

I guess I'll stop in my local store on the way home tonight after going to Best Buy. I don't expect there to be much of anything to buy though.

Yeah. I plan on going in first. If I don't at least see some decent converted titles that're both playable and flippable, then I won't even bother doing the trades.

I don't work til the afternoon so won't know til then .

No problem. I could just pick them up tomorrow evening. Just debating if I should pick them up at all. An update on their price would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

cashier at the Blockbuster I went to didnt know how to ring up the new promo for the free $5 giftcard. i guess I got some dumb dvd holder trays and cardboard movie reels with each set of 5. She rang up a reel and holder tray and giftcard which equaled to me paying $10, the scanned some coupon code and it only took off $7.50. She ended up crediting the $2.50 back on my account after my transaction but was still a pain.

Heh, anyone going tomorrow to look for flips may want to make sure they can still trade in to Best Buy first. In the BBY trade in thread no one who has reported having tried to trade-in today has not been banned.

Err I worded that like I'm drunk.

Everyone so far who has posted in the thread about having gone to do a trade-in today has reported that they were banned. Only a few people, but still, not good numbers.

OK. I checked my BBV en route to a buddy of mine's house and they had jack and shit left as far as games went.

They had one copy of :ps3:Bulletstorm, one copy of :wii:Wii Party and a metric shitton of crap, crap and MORE crap left.

Funnier still was how much of the leftover stuff was OLD crap( Bionic Commando, Untold Legends Dark Kingdom, etc, etc).
