Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

June 25th - July 1st, 50% off used games $19.99 and under

See here for the deal: http://www.blockbuster.com/stores

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

See BlockbusterGuy's thread for a list of titles eligible under (and commonly found at BBV) for the promo:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/310423-blockbuster-video-4th-of-july-sale-bogo/

Coming July 2nd: B1G1 free on games $29.99 and under

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

Finally found a BBV that would take a KA, on my 5th attempt. Confirm it's still at $15 in the system. 3 of the prior 4 stores gave me the "no barcode" excuse, and the 4th said he'd taken too many over the weekend and hit his limit. That guy was relatively cool and helpful about it though, so I couldn't be too mad.
I'm not sure. I guess if its franchised than they don't do trade ins then ?
It's up to their discretion, I believe, if it's franchised.

If you ask an employee, that's one of the questions that they'll actually probably be able to answer for ya! ;p

@hawaiiboy

I know that BBV doesn't allow returns on used games (unless it is defective), but is there a policy against return/re-buys or changing to an alternative method of payment? (and if this is possible, is receipt-only ok?)

Thanks!

Well, i used my store credit today, ended up getting.....

Fable 3
Mafia 2
Spiderman Shattered Dimensions
Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded
Kirby Superstar Ultra
Dead Space 2
Bulletstorm
Assassins Creed Brotherhood
Dragon Age 2
Dead Rising 2

Not bad at all for only paying 3.74$ :p. Gonna take Dragon Age/Dead Rising/Bulletstorm/Kirby right over to Best Buy, but keeping everything else

There is no set policy as stores seem to do whatever they want to but you will most likely get shot down as most will only do any kind of exchange on defective product only. But it won't hurt to ask.

No flipping for me but I did get Fear 2 (360), Assassins Creed 2, Splatterhouse, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising (all Ps3) for 30 bucks. Not a bad deal, most of the other games were already cleaned out or too expensive.

wow. traded in 2 everybody dance, duke nukem, coj cartel and dangerous catch.
then picked up 10 more games. good stuff
thanx everyone. still $55 credit @ bbv, but this sale goes til end of year?! wow

josh- duke and brink are back up in price at gf, but tiv for both is 17 i believe. you should have tried for 2 free copies this morning, but alas, i missed it!
just what the hell to do with BB credit though? wait for the next used game sale in 5-6 months?
Start buying the lower tiv games for BB and trade those in? Buy sodas for everybody working in BBV once a week? Get it on a gc then sell the gc on PlasticJungle.com?

No luck with the KA flip.. decided to just give up and return the 2 copies I had to GS since it's literally a 2 minute walk from my house and it's on my way home from college. The guy actually looked perplexed and asked why I went out of my way for 4 bucks and it got a little awkward but let's be honest here, I don't have a Kinect and there's no reason for me to hold those games. Maybe someone else wants em (or wants to try the flip I guess) so it was more of a courtesy than anything on my part.

Got my 4 bucks back and no 50-60 bucks of credit at Best Buy. It's a shame.. this could've been a great flip for me. Ah well, it's good to be a CAG, I've already saved a lot of money on my gaming habits and I'm sure I'll come across many many great deals in the future. Congrats for those that got it to work. For those of us that fell on our faces trying, time to move on. ;) At the end of the day, at least there's beer and porn

Is there any way to move store credit between stores? Only 1 BBV around me would take KA, and their game selection sucks. Can I buy a gift card, or buy a new (sealed) movie and return it to a different store to move my credit?
just what the hell to do with BB credit though? wait for the next used game sale in 5-6 months?
I believe HB said this 3 for 20 or 5 for 30 deal is going on until the end of the year. I'm sure they'll restock some games by then so just hold on to your credit for a couple weeks or so. I know mine had a bunch of new games put out in a 15 and under bin when I walked in yesterday so it's pretty clear they're moving inventory around. Hang on to your credit for a rainy day.

Yeah, I missed it as well! That may still not be a bad deal with the 12 dollar off sale. It's nice to have some option with flips. Thanks for the heads up.

last night I picked up some new disney blus ~ blus up to $12.99 are 3/$25
at first the staff member thought the promo ended, but he called his manager and sure enough it was automatic in the system

$8.34 plus tax for Toy Story 3 2 disc wiht digital download works for me.

Well for anyone wondering if there are still Killzone 2's out there, I picked one up tonight that was probably still there because it was mispriced at $29.99

Did 1 more lot of 5

Killzone 2
Splinter Cell Conviction PS3
Prototype 360
Civilization Revolution PS3
New Carnival Games Wii

And that brings my grand total of games bought (all to keep and play) up to 35. Yeah, probably done for this sale :)

So I have $45 in credit at one store and decide to hit up another that has good games. Didn't realize they don't transfer. Oh well, rookie mistake.

I traded in 2 KA at one store and 3 at another. My friend decides to try and they tell him they aren't accepting any more KA's. We go to out local store and they say they can only trade when the manager is there.

My buddy goes there today and the manager says, "We aren't taking those games. Were you and your friend at the (other) store? Where did you guys get so many copies of the game?"

My buddy just left. I call to talk to them about getting my balance on a gift card and they say no, store policy. Kinda getting sick of BBV real quick.

I got denied by two BBV's on KA because they claimed that it needed a barcode that scanned and doesn't accept without it because it came free with a bundle. I ask if they can just look it up and they just flat out said no. I wasn't expecting much from the third one but I tried anyways. The manager tries to scan it but it doesn't work. He types in the game, and I get an easy $30 credit for the two games. Immediately grabbed 5 games for $2.50 to cover tax and walked out happily. God, I hated those managers that gave me bullshit about that.

went to 2 blockbusters, one couldnt find the trade agreement sheets, so i couldnt trade. freakin ridiculous that they cant print out a piece of paper. the other one let me get away with signing half of one (?). still got the trade in though. made 51$. gonna go try again tomorrow

One store swore they needed that piece of paper after I mentioned that the other stores just typed in my info and set up my trade account on the computer, without any paper work. The employee (assistant manager) called the store manager who walked him through it on the computer without any paperwork.....

Anyways...I got banned at one store (message from the store manager said not to take any trades from me)...no biggie since this was the only game I've traded in since the singstar bundles =)

No restock at my local store, but they did convert a few more games that weren't there last week (pet peeve of mine, rental conversion =/= restock). Nothing too special but there was a KH Re:Coded and a PS3 HP Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 so I grabbed those along with some leftovers like DA II for 360. Fortunately they let me switch the case for HP with the rental since the one they were selling had cover art that had clearly been submerged in water and then dried out - it was crunchy, faded, and in shreds. Oh, and half of it was missing - from all over .

So I was able to use my $15 from KA on those to get them pretty cheap. Saw my KA on the shelf for sale for $34.99 - only copy in the store. I wouldn't dare stick them with another.

After going through my experience and reading others, I'm still having a hard time imagining why some employees just flat out refuse to do something as simple as look something up on a computer. I could understand it if they knew about the flip and were hesitant to take the game but for those employees who simply stated that they can't do it because of lack of a barcode.. really?

I've seen plenty of used games being sold without the original case or manual with it. What if I had just stuck those games in a sleeve or only handed him the disc? What would he have done then? I'd be fine if he had just told me the store didn't want the game but to make up bullshit like that just frustrates me.
Looks like the Kinect Adventures trade-in is dead here in Indianapolis.

Oh well..
Where did you try? They were getting suspicious on the southside yesterday. Was going to try again today.
the restock at my BBV's on monday was just a whole bunch of gears of war and fear
Same here. Six gears 3, one fear 2 and one fear 3. So much for the big transfer :(
Where did you try? They were getting suspicious on the southside yesterday. Was going to try again today.
I tried on the 62nd/Keystone store and the 86th St store.

They just said they aren't currently taking them.

The computer doesn't even list the game.

no way!, dam it!, i still have 6 copies left, was going to try to unload them today

had a bunch of trouble yesterday, one store said its illegal to trade games after 5pm?!?! lol - i went a mile down to another blockbuster that gladly took them??? i swear its a diff story at every blockbuster

what the heck is with their weirdness, its like Do they do game trade ins or not!?!?!?....jesus H man

and then another store about 6 miles away (corporate location) said that oh we dont do trade ins anymore since dish network took over - is every store just doing whatever the hell they want? i mean isnt crap like this why they ran themselves into the ground in the first place

on the other hand, one store was awesome with absolutely no issues with great selection, another did the trades but we were barely able to make one 5 game set

any way we can get a solid confirmation that KA is dead? because im wondering if that was just misinformation

Just tried to trade KA a couple hours ago in upstate NY and got shut down. Very helpful guy behind the counter tried to look it up for me, but said his POS was showing him there was no trade-in value associated with the game. Looks like corporate may have shut this one down today :(

Velo, how much were they giving for :ps3: Everybody Dance?

I just tried asking for KBOX Kinect Adventures TIV and the person said it was not in the system. Realistically would all these KA trades lead to BBV bankruptcy again, haha.

This figures. I was at my local blockbuster last night & the line was too damn long. I looked in their section & I could barely scrape 5 games as it was. I didnt see any signage about any sales either. Why cant the TIV hold up 1 more day when I can get to the other 2 stores?

Was told a rental pull was going to occur on Saturday. Need confirmation from other sources.

Rental pulls happen every Sunday. We get the list sat but can't do them til sunday. Not sure why everyone is t seeing this weeks pulls. Our store did 30 games and they all werent gears and fear like some people have posted.

Seriously people WTF? Why so frakking greedy? Trade 2, fine, trade 4, umm ok, but that's not enough huh? Gimme gimme more huh?

If this was Walmart or BB, I wouldn't give a shmit, but these used deals by BBV have been awesome and everyone knows they're going/are/were bankrupt so why do you have to be so damn greedy and take even more advantage of BBV.

I didn't attempt one KA trade, I did flip a decent amount of games, got some as gifts, and some for myself and am very happy, content, and thankful for these great deals.

Nothing personal...but the name of this site is Cheap Ass Gamer, not Cheap Benevolent Gamer.

I'm not one to kick the special needs kid in the local cul de sac either, but BBV is a business and at the end of the day if they don't have the people in place to avoid or remedy situations like this one, then they deserve what they get.

Look at Best Buy - TIV's drop right before big sales. Someone's paying attention. Will they catch everything? Probably not, but I don't forsee a Cranium Kabookii happening there any time soon.

That being said...Happy Thanksgiving to y'all. I know I'll be spending the next 4 days in gaming nirvana thanks to BBV. 27 new (to me) games for me and the kiddos.
