Hey Cags. I am starting a backlog support group here on CAG and wanted to see where everyone was on their backlogs and maybe we can help push each other to start finishing our games.  I made a list of all my backlog games and realized that I have over 900 hours and I think this could be a good forum to come here, chat about what games we finished and what game to start next, update hours, with what games we buy or beat. Who knows, maybe we can even get some coop groups going to help.

How I added up my backlog: I used a spread sheet to list all my games and I matched each individual game with the corresponding time on Howlongtobeat.com

Another useful tool:

Well I'm working on that now.  It was just the main story hours you used or did it vary if you thought it was a game you would seek out collectibles/trophies on?  Gotta have ground rules if we're going to compare our shamepeens.

Yeah just the main story, unless it was a game that didn't have a main story and then I looked at the length it would take to complete the trophies, but for the sake of simplicity, I think main story should be the focus.

Well I just finished tabulating the PSN stuff into a Google spreadsheet and leaving out free to play games and those that I've actually played more than an hour or two.  Also only counted titles I have on multiple platforms only once.  That puts me at 113 games and 1325.5 hours.

Think I'll call it a night there and start on the physical games tomorrow.

That's awesome! I'm trying to get Killzone Mercenary done so I can trade it in to Gamestop with the 2 for $50 promo then probably move over to Last of Us. My plan of attack is to start taking out the shorter 2-4 hour games after I finish my physical copies of games. Try to make the list look a little less intimidating.

One of the hardest things about working on the backlog, is prioritizing the games that I want to play. Do I want to play the games that have the highest TIV to try to unload to gamestop while they are worth it? What if they take the same amount of time as I two other games would take and basically be the same trade value? Or what type of game am I in the mood for?

Now that have killed all the credit I've accumulated on various stores it seems like I will finally be making a dent in my back log.  Pretty cool idea to start this thread. Currently playing Guacamelee and should be receiving a download code for A link between worlds tomorrow. Picked up Tales fo Xillia and Killzone: Mercenary over Black Friday weekend.

I'm using backloggery.com.  I don't care to total up how many hours I have.  The RPGs are gonna get me.  I estimate I have 5 years worth of games to play in my backlog.  I just recently finished Fallout 3 GOTY and I am wanting to start Enslaved then move onto Nier.

KZ Mercs is really fun. It has to be the best FPS and possibly the best shooter on the VIta.

Update:
Finished Xcom: Bureau Declassified. Not a bad game, but not a great game. Takes awhile to get going, but once you have the controls down it's pretty fun. I like the idea of the hybrid genre of shooter meets tactical strategy. I haven't played the Ghost Recon games in years so I don't exactly remember what they are like, but I don't think they are exactly like this.

I've probably got around 200 games in my backlog. I've slowed down a ton on buying stuff and trying to only purchase something if I'm playin it right away or I just finished a game or two.

Playstation plus has really filled the backlog. Whether it's the free games or the heavily discounted games, it is hard to not take advantage of the deals. We are cheapassgamers after all.

I have at least 650+ games in my backlog. I do need to slow down on the acquisition, and am planning on taking a bit of a break for the first half of this coming year. The first title on my backlog to play is Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies. I'm already in the middle of playing it, and am about half way through. I've completed every other game in that series, so this one is getting played through, one way or another.

After that I'll probably move on to The Walking Dead: Season 1. I finished the first chapter of that title, but haven't played through the rest. Then I'm probably going to want to play the Stanley Parable and Gone Home. After that I'll play it by ear.

Finally finished Puppeteer. What a weird, dark game. The art style is pretty amazing. When you first start playing it, you feel like it is something that could have been made in LBP, but the more you play, the more you realize how Puppeteer is unlike any other platformer. It's too bad it wasn't more successful, because I would absolutely love a sequel, especially on the Vita.  I also finished Lego Marvel Super Heroes for the PS4. Lego Marvel is probably my favorite Lego game so far. I have only played Harry Potter 1-4, 5-7 and Lego LotR, but I was thoroughly impressed. I hope everyone's holiday season/ breaks are going well and that you have time to kick out some of that backlog.

Finally finished a bunch of games that I recently received within the last week or two that I just never added to my list. Now I am back on the list and I set a rule for myself. I have to finish my Physical PS3 games before I buy another game. I have about 5-6 to go...

I've set up the same rule where I can not buy another game until I've gone through my physical games. I'm making it a point to take my time and not rush through any games so I can enjoy the experience. I feel like I'll be finished with the GTA V story mode soon where I'' continue to explore once I am done from time to time, and I need 2 more sages for a link between worlds but I'm meeting all the other quests as well.

This works for me. I've slowed down my physical game purchasing by a lot. I've only bought about 4 games this year. Thing is, I haven't had the motivation/dedication to play any of my games at all.

Well your first step was coming here to the support group ;). Maybe what would help is figuring out how long certain games are and just kick them out. I just finished the Killer Is Dead campaign and the Germinator story mode. K.I.D is nowhere near as good as Lollipop Chainsaw or Shadows of the Damned and at times I felt like I wanted to stop playing. It took me about 6-7 hours to finish it and I am happy I did. Germinator was an alright game. It doesn't give you a lot of time to think about your next move, which makes it sort of frantic. Getting through these games was more of a chore than some of the other games I have played since taking on my backlog, but not every game is going to be surprisingly good or even fun.

I have so many rpg games in my backlog (even from two gens ago). I think it is time I start Final Fantasy X, but maybe I should finish Dragon Quest VIII first

Even with this huge backlog I just bought Tales of Xillia and Tales of Vesperia... I think I have a problem.

Same here. In the time it'd take me to figure out the hours, count the games....I could have played one. I'm pathetic

Sorry for dbl post...but this helps me pass on K.I.D. I still need to play the other 2 Suda games you mentioned, so this makes that easier. Thank you :)

Hi everyone, my name is Invicta and I'm a backlogaholic.

My backlog started in 2008 when I got back into gaming with the NES, SNES and Genesis, so many games I'd never played.  It moved on to the PS1, PS2 and PS3 where it grew in the hundreds.

I first realized I had a problem when I purchased a game that was on sale only to find that I had purchased it months earlier and had forgotten because I hadn't played it.

I am now five years backlogged.

Welcome. Hopefully we can help you get through some games, I am sure if you have been collecting NES through PS3, you have some fantastic titles and a few hidden gems.

Glad to help. If you could get K.I.D for sub $10, I think you wouldn't be too disappointed. The art style is great (If you like cel shaded games) and there is a lot of weird stuff that you would expect from a Suda game. I just wouldn't give this game priority over any other game.

Just finished Sly Cooper Thieves In Time and Jacob Jones Big Foot Mystery. Sly Cooper is pretty good. Great variety in characters and a lot of levels. I may edit this later to update more info, but I'm lazy right now.

wrapped up on on A link between worlds last night! Amazing game and I think it will be one of the few I keep after I beat. Looking forward to returning and completing the hero quest after my Fiance plays through it. Next in my sights is Guacamelee and Killzone: Mercenary while I catch up on my book backlog as well haha

Just finished Labyrinth Legends and really didn't enjoy it. Just glad to have it off the list. I am going to start working on the NBA Jam Road Trip between games. I think I may start Malicious next.

You guys try to get through the game as quickly as possible using easy settings or do you go for trophies, accomplishments, etc.?  I've turned into a trophy whore which will make getting through games much longer.

I usually look at the trophy list and if there is a difficulty trophy I will play the game on the required setting. If there is not, I will play the game on the easiest. Generally I will do one play through and go for as many trophies as possible, maybe put in an hour or 2 after I finish the game to do some clean up, but I rarely plat games.

I've been doing that. I just have to sit down and actually do it.

I try to go for trophies/achievements. I'm not a whore, but more of a completist; I want to try and get all the trophies/achievements in the games I play although some of the time it doesn't happen.

I've never went plat on a game and thought I would give it a shot on Ghosts.  I need to accomplish this before the first DLC content.  I finished the game on veteran and have one trophy left on single player.

Unfortunately the rest of the trophies are for survival mode which requires others to be on the same page.  I used to play COD with co-workers but they've moved on to the PS4 already.  Random matchups don't really play out too well.

Try using ps3trophies.org to organize a group. There are always people willing to boost.

Just finished Dokuro and holy shit it is a long game. Howlongtobeat.com had it at 17 hours and it took me 23 hours using a walkthrough when I was stuck ( and I was stuck a lot) . It is very rare for me to say this, but this game had too much content. There are 15 stages and a boss fight and all the stages have 10 areas, which is a puzzle and you have to escort a princess through most of them. There is a steep increase in difficulty from stage 7-8 but once you reach stage 9 there are only a few puzzles that are difficult to figure out, but they still take quite sometime to complete. This is a tough game to recommend to the average player, because I don't think people have the patience to complete a 17-23 hour Limbo-esque escort game with something around 140-150 puzzles and a tough boss fights. This isn't a game that you can sit down and figure out a room or two and feel like you made progress. I truly believe the type of people that would enjoy Dokuro are the hardest of hardcore puzzle game fans. Some how though, Dokuro doesn't leave you bored and the puzzles and stages have enough of a variety to never really notice any repetition. I have been dying to start Last of Us but my brain is fried from forcing myself to finish Dokuro. I will probably find some action or shooter game and continue watching Dexter, which I just started and I am about to finish season 1. I wish I had started Tales of Xillia already so I could just sit in a field and grind for the next 3 hours until I fall asleep.  Anyway 17 hours off my list even though it took 23. Hope you guys are making some progress.

I finished up Infamous over the weekend.  Honestly, I had a tough time getting through the game.  The gameplay was cool but the characters and story were very boring as well as the city.  Also didnt like enemies superhuman accuracy.  I only beat the story, as I had no interest in getting 100% of the side missions, blast shards (I got 100 or so), dead drops, etc.  Still, I got my value out of the game as I picked up the collection for $20 new at Target a few months back.  I'll still play through Infamous 2 but gonna take a break first.  My next PS3 game will be Uncharted (I just got a PS3 in August so I'm still getting around to most of the exclusives for it).

On my 360, I'm currently playing through both Fallout New Vegas (2nd time through, but 1st with all the DLC) and Kingdoms of Amalur.  I'm not really liking Amalur though so may just jump to something else.  I have Dishonored in my queue as well...

I haven't played Infamous in awhile, but it may just be dated by now. I have played the Festival of Blood but haven't started 2 yet. Festival of Blood is a blast, it's about 5-6 hours and it's really dark. Infamous 1 had weird bugs like Cole's head would flip all the way around and I always thought that was pretty funny. I'm interested what it is about Amalur you don't like so far. By no means do you have to like KOA, but I really enjoyed it because it was like playing MMO single player and you don't have to rely on groups of morons to help you out. The start of the game with the gnomes and is way too World of Warcraft-esque and I know that turned off a lot of people, but once you get into the game and you choose your fate it really opens up a truly expansive world. You have a good list of games you are playing there, they are all pretty long too. Enjoy!

The start of the game with the gnomes and is way too World of Warcraft-esque and I know that turned off a lot of people, but once you get into the game and you choose your fate it really opens up a truly expansive world. You have a good list of games you are playing there, they are all pretty long too. Enjoy!
I didnt really encounter any bugs in Infamous at least. Festival of Blood and 2 are in my backlog as well and I'll probably do those after finishing Uncharted. I figure I'll rotate the two series (Infamous, Uncharted, Infamous 2, Uncharted 2) to keep my PS3 going.

I think my issue with Amalur is the combat seems to be either ridiculously easy or enemies can one-hit 90% of my health. A lot of the quests and characters just arent grabbing me either. I dont know why since its similar to Skyrim in that sense but Skyrim hooked me right away. Havent felt that with Amalur yet. Of course, I'm only 20 or so hours in, so maybe I just havent done enough in the world yet (on the fifth or so main mission and have done several sidequests).

After 20 hours I think you are able to have a pretty solid opinion on any game really. You are definitely not the first person to say that Amalur hasn't grabbed them. I commend you on putting in that much time in a game that you aren't particularly enjoying.

That's one of the weird things, it doesnt feel like I've put 20 hours in at all. I'm sure at least a couple of those are from leaving it on while doing something else in my apartment, but still.

I see in your sig you're playing Last of Us, how do you like it so far? I picked it up on Black Friday and blasted through the story in a week and a half. Didnt really like the first half but the second half picked it up and the last level is pretty fun.

I am actually glad to hear that about the first half isn't that great because I am on the second chapter ( stage? level?) and while the game is beautiful, the sound is amazing, I don't feel like I am doing much. I was blown away by the the prologue. They did a fantastic job conveying the emotions of the characters during an outbreak situation and I don't think any other game has really made me feel the feelings I felt during the opening sequence. I find myself walking away from it though and playing other games. Right now I am playing Zombie Tycoon 2 on the Vita, but I will probably start playing Last of Us in little bit later tonight. I am enjoying the scavenging and looking around the world, but it leaves me wanting more of a loot system to make it feel like I was surviving. Not every game needs to be an RPG, but I wouldn't hate walking around the world created. The scenery is phenomenal and while I am usually opposed to upgraded versions of games such as Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, I don't think I would mind seeing a PS4 Last of Us GOTY, if it is a true upgrade.

I found Infamous 2 to be far more boring and tedious than the original. The characters and story were very blah to me. However, Uncharted 1 and Uncharted 2 are amazing!

I finally beat Killzone Mercanary and Tearaway, so now I can move on to my PS3 backlog; Tales of Xillia here I come!

I just started Xillia too! It is going to be my in between games game because I really don't want to rush through it. I just want hours of mindless grinding in fields while watching movies on netflix. Also Congrats on KZ Mercs and Tearaway. I thought Mercs was a fantastic FPS. Did you play Uncharted 3? I know a lot of people prefer 2, but my favorite was 3, because I felt that they balanced the puzzles and action. Uncharted 1 had a ton of puzzles, Uncharted 2 had something like three or four the entire game and then UC3 was able to find a nice middle ground of both.

Yeah Uncharted 3 was my favorite of the series of well. I thought the story and environment were amazing.

As for Tales of Xillia, I absolutely love it, definitely my 2nd favorite Tales game just behind Tales of Symphonia. The game is kinda of slow to start, but once you get going it is really fun. I also love the orb leveling up system, as well as the improved battle system.

They made some great improvements. As you already mentioned the Orb leveling system works really well, but also the material gathering and shop expanding is something that I absolutely love. Having grade attached to titles rather than quality of battles is something that I really like too. I am still trying to get used to the linking during battle, so far I haven't found anything negative about it.

I had kind of mixed feelings about the scavenging myself. I found more than enough to get me through the levels (especially once you get past the first few where you do have to conserve your resources), but I was nowhere near 100% completion for any of them. I think I found 4 or 5 Firefly Pendants the whole game, lol. It just wasnt interesting enough to me to go and collect every last item. To be fair, that happens in most games for me as I usually leave something unfinished (GTA, Arkham riddler trophies/challenges, etc). I think Mass Effect is the only series where I actively tried to collect EVERYTHING.

Thats not making me excited for Infamous 2, lol. But I'm definitely taking a break from that series to focus on Uncharted first. I played through Uncharted 3 in August (that was when I got my PS3 during a BB sale, came with Uncharted 3 and a year of PS Plus) and really enjoyed it. Picked up the first 2 during a B1G1 at Gamestop in October I think and am looking forward to starting the first one soon, maybe even tonight.

Just finished Zombie Tycoon 2 on the Vita. I thought it would be a game like running a Zombie Amusement park or business or something (fuck me right?) and it is most definitely not. It is an RTS game for those who don't know and after the initial learning curve I have to say I had a blast playing it. I have to subtract 4 hours from my backlog list, because that is what it is listed as on Howlongtobeat.com, but it took me way longer than that. I am finding that the times on howlongtobeat.com are running a little on the low side. I play a lot of games and consider myself pretty hardcore, but I am finding that most estimates are at least over 2 hours under what I can finish a game in. Anyway, I enjoyed it quite a bit and maybe once my backlog is under control, I will go back and 100% it.

I started Uncharted 1 last night, really fun so far.  Only a few levels in but very enjoyable and I will have some fun going through it.

I'm still trucking along on Amalur, I did another story mission tonight but my interest level is waning for sure.  Another couple days at the most before I set it aside.

Ok... So I am playing Last of Us and I am on chapter 8 and wow, this game is boooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring. The story so far is predictable, the one shot Clicker kills when you are being rushed are annoying, Ellie is a clone of Juno ( Not Ellen Page but specifically Juno) Someone on Gamefaqs summed it up for me pretty well
The game is good, but it isn't a masterpiece, it isn't perfect, it isn't near perfect, it isn't goty, it isn't gotm, it isn't naughty dogs best, it isn't the ps3s best, it isn't the best zombie game, it isn't the best survival game, it isn't the best anything.

I couldn't agree more with their statement. I am expecting people to tell me that the story is amazing, but with such boring gameplay, I don't even care about the story. I truly tried to immerse myself in Last of Us. I wore my Sony Pulse headphones, I waited for no interruptions in my house ie when everyone is asleep and at times I want to stop playing this game. I planned on getting all the offline trophies, but now I think I am going to do my one playthrough and get rid of it. Out of all the games that I have played this year that were nominated for Goty, I think this is the most disappointing.

I would also like to say I don't hate the game and there are some really great aspects of the game. The relationship development between Ellie and Joel is fantastic. The banter and conversations are really worth listening to. The game has scared me a couple times, it has a simple enough upgrade system, which is nice in a game like this. It looks beautiful and the world they created is phenomenal, still this doesn't equal game of the year. If it truly is the story that makes this the best overall game, then it deserves story of the year, but not game of the year.

I don't know why I am surprised that I don't find that Last of Us shouldn't be Goty. I am also the person who disagrees with Journey, Walking Dead, Red Dead Redemption and probably a few more games that just didn't do it for me. I am planning on finishing Last of Us tonight and I hope that by the end the game I completely change my mind, because I really don't want to waste my time with a subpar game that I feel is overrated and will probably mention my feelings about TLoU in more than a few forum posts, that will create some war or have some insults hurdled at me, when I could have played something that I would have liked more.

Also my GoTY is Bioshock Infinite for those who read this whole post.

Tl;dr version. Last of Us is boring and I don't think it deserves GOTY.

Update:
Finished Last of Us. There were some fun chapters, I won't mention specifics because I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't played it, but overall I am unsatisfied with this game. It is a solid 8, which is a great score, but no way is this game of the year.

It seems like we have similar opinions on games because thats somewhat how I feel about TLOU too. I think it was a good game for the most part, but nowhere near GOTY status like so many say. The graphics are amazing but everything else fell quite short of GOTY for me. I paid $25 for it on Black Friday and was able to sell it for $33 a week and a half later after beating it so I got good value out of the game, but its not one I had any desire to go back to after beating it once.

I havent played Journey yet, but I also had some struggles with Red Dead Redemption and Walking Dead. I'm still going through Walking Dead but its a little too point and click for me, and while I liked the beginning and end of Red Dead Redemption the middle part in Mexico is VERY dragged out, almost to the point of making you stop playing. I also just finished Infamous and was very unimpressed. So, maybe some of the more popular and well-reviewed games aren't for me, lol.

If you want fun gameplay play The Last of Us on the highest difficulty. I think its Survival. That makes you play differently. Other than that it is simple but I absolutely loved it. Im a hardcore Bioshock fan and I loved it more than Infinite. Those two and Tomb Raider are in my top 3 for 2013. I may be different from all other gamers in that I NEVER play on normal difficulty or below. I usually start on the highest difficulty. And if you unlock yet a higher difficulty after beating it the first time then I play it again on the highest difficulty. Thats what makes games fun to me. Way to many games are a joke on normal or below including The Last Of Us.
