The Darkness - Gen Discussion & Info
Ummm...akward :whistle2:#

I was about to act all dramatic when you posted that, then I remembered he had it so life is good :p

Is the AI that bad that IGN gave it what it got? Looking back, Prey got a 9.0 and while I thoroughly enjoyed it's SP offering, I didn't think it offered anything out of the ordinary outside of the gravity walks. I did see the IGN Video Review and though the AI was oblivious to much of the happenings, it didn't seem to be anything unlike MGS AI.

Tell me it's crap so I don't buy it.
The bit on the couch with Jackie's love interest was phenomenal.
Agreed. I wasn't expecting that. It almost feels like a cross between an FPS and Indigo Prophecy, which I LOVE. The whole couch thing was great, though. I ended up watching like half an hour of To Kill A Mockingbird.

PS3 version for me. I decided to pass on the Xbox 360 version because I need to add more games to my PS3 collection. I only have 2 right now lol.

Just got back from CC. They were unloading the truck right at 2 so the girl had to go find the game from the boxes. :(

I was one truck stop away from having a $20 GC.

As hard as they've been on just about anything else in the last year, I really had to raise my eyebrows at 1up's 9.0 for this game*. So, yes, I think they got paid off. No one's above it. Given the less-than-stellar subsequent reviews, this is now firmly in the sub-$30 'Amazon DotD' category for me. I could really give a shit about extending its life with multiplayer. I made the mistake of paying full MSRP for Prey, and I won't be doing that again.

*--And yet again, beware the exclusive first review, especially when it's that positive. For many, I think once they see that first "9" or "9.5", they rationalize that everything subsequent to it is just reviewers who "just don't get it". The power of the first impression, and gaming publishers know it. (What, they don't get the scores-for-exclusives game? Well, perhaps.)

Your whole "I'm the lone voice of truth and logic in gaming, today" has been old for a couple of months now.

Have fun waiting two years for this to be an Amazon DotD title.

Okay.. story mode spoiler below.. I lost desire to play this game really, really quickly. Big spoiler.. so don't click if you haven't played through the game..

Paulie executes Jenny right in front of you. Seriously blows her brains out. I thought she was the coolest character.. and now.. nothing. What's worse is that the game forces you to watch it and prevents you from doing anything. That pisses me off.
Is the thing in the spoiler the reason you lost the desire to play?
I took one for the team and read the spoiler. It has nothing to do with gameplay, don't worry ;)

I was about to read it too...good thing someone else did. Is it just a lame turn of the story or something?

Turn in the story yes. Lame...that depends how close you feel to the characters.

The part of the story following it is even lamer. Another spoiler.

And yeah, the spoiler before was a twist (I guess) in the story that I was pissed about. Nothing to do with gameplay. I'm loving the gameplay.

I'm supposed to believe now that i've warped into the past, into the civil war era? or is it the future? the underworld? And I'm living multiple lives because of the Darkness?

Remember this is based on a comic, with 10 years of story. That spoiler was a big story arc in the comics, so what can you do? :)

Now this game is awesome. Developers need to take note. This is how you develop a license.

BTW anyone play multi player? All my matches seemed laggy.

Glad it's not just a PS3 problem then.

My matches lag with 4 or more people it seems.

I want to ps3 version to get some games in my collection, but I'm an achievement whore. Plus I'll get Ninja Gaiden next week anyways.

Unless you're an achievement points whore, you can have "accomplishments" in the PS3 version.

I can't really say-- I loaded up a player match first before I started with the Single Player, and I jumped in it just to mess around and see what it looked like on my TV. Pretty soon I'm getting lag spikes, but I'm realizing people are joining my room.

After all of them hopped in, didn't lag to bad for me-- the gunplay in multi seems off a bit though, I can't tell if I'm hitting guys or not. Nill on the Aim assist though so it doesn't feel as sticky as some other console fps.

I gotta say, I watched that 25 minute video a few times over in anticipation, but actually playing it was awesome-- and I played it differently, getting a few more collectibles/secret areas than that particular play through.

Multiplayer was fun too-- though that could have been due to me owning it up as the host (more than likely).

Wow...what a great intro. Reminded me of Half-Life with the tram sequence, only more action-packed. I gotta turn off the damn surrounds, though. Those damn voices give me the creeps.

BTW, anyone have some good control settings as far as sensitivity goes? I turned off Auto-Aim, but I'm still trying to figure out how to get the aiming to at least as close to R6 Vegas feel. If that's even possible.

Can someone comment on the framerate, please. I'd like to hear comments about both the PS3 and 360 version.

In the IGN video review, it looked like the framerate dropped a bit, while climbing the stairs. If i can see the framerate drop in a 240x200 video 30 fps video, I'm a bit worried what it will look like on a 37" LCD.

Hmmm...I'm not that far into the game, but spent about 2 hours just walking around and redoing parts of it, but I just can't get the aiming to where I want. I'd appreciate some advice on controller settings.

Now I know what you guys were talking about with the couch scene. I really love the cinematic moments the game has offered thus far. I was tempted to sit there as well and watch the movie (though I got annoyed in the beginning 'cause the damn bitch wouldn't shut up. I was trying to watch a movie.).

I must suck though, 'cause I died 4 or 5 times on my way to the apartment on Medium. Doesn't take a lot of bullets to take you down.

Don't be afraid to take advantage of your darkness. I like to hide in the shadows and unleash hell with my snake thing.

Umm, I just got the romantic achievement, but how do I get off the couch? Im not seeing the option now that shes asleep

I'll be sure to let you guys know how the surround is since I do have the setup for it. I think I'll be picking up the 360 version since it seems there's some graphical issues with the PS3 version (frame rate and aliasing.) If Gamespot's review says the same thing, then yeah, gonna go with the 360.
I bet surround sound would be soooo bad ass in this game. I really need to invest in a good surround sound set up.
The surround was pretty sweet, hearing The Darkness breathing in the background and such was great. I had to hook it up to the 65" HDTV with surround for this one hah

Does it seem like when your talking to someone there Common Bystamders are always starring at you? It's fucking creeping me out.

Also I have a Nice Onkyo/Bose Surround Setup. My Nephew was getting creepd out by the Darkness Voices.

The part where
Jackie goes to Hell
is one of the greatest sequences I have ever seen / played.

for those of you on the fence-- yeah, the PS3 version has frame rate drops and a lack of aliasing. the colors are kinda washed out too, but I'm not sure if that's just the game's style.

nothing that's going to make your eyes bleed, but you might as well go with the smoother version.

edit: and online is ridiculously bad. not sure if there's chat, and you can't even name rooms.

That damn voice creeps up from the rears and its really freaking me out. I hate dying in the game, too. That damn loading screen comes up with the creepy sounding voice-overs.

im trading in my ps3 version for the x360 version since it has a flawless framerate and AA and all that good stuff...talk about waste of time and money -_-

I was thinking about doing the EB special of trade in two PS3 games and get one free, but is the PS3 version so much worse that I should just trade the two games in and pay the difference in cash for the 360 one?

I don't see anything wrong with the PS3 version and I've been playing all night. I honestly don't know what people are not liking about it.

I got the game today but only having a chance to play it for like 20 mins. I was laughing my ass off and had so much fun at the beginning (the very beginning), and this game is looking way awesome. It has just enough hellish parts to it seems to make it awesome. I also like how the guards curse at you like literally every five seconds just because it just sounds right there, lol.

it's not so much worse, but it sounds like the 360 version does have some nice graphical advantages.

yea I bought it for PS3 but held off on opening it for fear that it would be inferior to the 360 version. thank god I waited because there's nothing worse then playing a game when you know that there's a better version of it out there that you could be enjoying.

Loved the first hour. Anyone else playing it on Hard? Reviews made it sound too easy, so I opted for the harder difficulty level. I died many times... I'm not sure if it'll be worth it. Seems like some of the fun of charging up to someone and using your powers is lost on the Hard setting since you can't take much damage. You almost have to keep your distance. Any other impressions on the differenet difficulty levels?

There are some glitches in the game, the facial animations are so bad it's funny, but overall this is the most fun game I've played in awhile. It reminds me of the same fun I had with Dead Rising, it had it's problems yet it was still an awesome game experience.
