GS FAQ

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

What do I need to trade in an older console?
The console, power cable, av cable, and controller. Sometimes they don't care about USB charge cable but ymmv. 3DS XL trade would be console, charger, and stylus. Some have reported being charged a refurb fee for missing the stylus, but again ymmv (answer stolen from anarchyburger)

FAQ will be entered when those questions get asked frequently.

Does the Pro Membership B2G1 coupon apply to only games, or accessories as well?
The coupon applies to both games and accessories, per the wording on the coupon.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free. Typically refers to the coupon you receive when becoming Pro.
GCU/BB: Gamer’s Club Unlocked, Best Buy
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

I found this e-mail in my junk folder today. Came from a suspicious address, but I went directly to the website and it seems legit from looking at the court docs.

8. What payments are available for Extraordinary Expense Reimbursement?
Answer:

Class Members who had other extraordinary unreimbursed monetary losses because of information compromised as part of the Security Incident are eligible to make a claim for reimbursement of up to $10,000. As part of the claim, the Class Member must show that: (1) it is an actual, documented, and unreimbursed monetary loss; (2) the loss was more likely than not caused by the Security Incident; (3) the loss occurred during the time period from August 10, 2016 through February 9, 2017; (4) the loss is not already covered by one or more of the categories above in Question 7; and (5) a reasonable effort was made to avoid or seek reimbursement for the loss (including exhaustion of all available credit monitoring insurance and identity theft insurance).

More details are provided in the Settlement Agreement, which is available in the Important Documents section of this website.

Anyone have luck swapping out one of their "4 for $20" games after the promo has ended (but still within the 7-day return period)? I want to replace the 4th "filler" game I grabbed with another game that has the same ($9.99) price.
Not likely, since it will require a full return of the whole receipt and then price override on all the games for the new purchase. Like you said, the promo has ended. (Returns or exchanges for the same titles is allowable within the 7-day period)

i'm trying to sell my fiance on letting me do this xbox one x upgrade. Do i have this right? i can trade my OG xbone for $200. i get a $60 game with the system, that i could go trade right back in for $25 to $30. so its really about $270 out of pocket? can i get that down any lower?

Watch him cancel all 10 lol
nah they were existing preorders. I get all my games through gamestop doing trade ins. I grab cheap stuff from craigslist, fb marketplace, letgo and offerup and the flip em for double/triple what I paid. saves on tax too cause trade credit is tax free in jersey

I got this too. I actually had a data breach on 1 of my cards used. I was reimbursed but it was a hassle. I lost a shit ton of time fighting with bestbuy and trying to get them to honor there Visa checkout promo. Still have that nightmare to deal with.

Cool. I didn’t even know about this letgo app. Thanks. Gotta check out this fb marketplace but I don’t even have Facebook no more

Yeah, the Spider-Man Pro may be worth more in the long run than something like the God of War Pro, but I can't imagine it will be more valuable than the translucent blue console.
Yeah that's never going to happen.

I dont know 10 games worth a pre-order

So you guys pre-order and then cancel to keep the bonus? They don't hassle you for cancelling?
I would cancel at a later time if you plan on cancelling so it doesn't look suspicious. Bad thing about cancelling is that it hurts the employee who does the cancellation transaction. I usually just pre order things I can't get cheaper elsewhere like GameStop exclusive Funko pops and action figures that I know I'm going to get anyways.

Correct.

To get it lower? Trade more stuff to them?

I just moved all my preorders over to one game that I was looking to buy. They didn't give me any grief about it.
They didn't act weird at all? I thought that effected their numbers and would get them a little worked up? I might try do this for Spiderman.

It does hurt their numbers, but they don't really have much of a choice so no use in being weird about doing it. Also, most Gamestop employees are paid so poorly that they simply just don't care.

I do not recommend working there. I had issues with my store managers all the time, and only gave you hours based on performance (pre-orders, card sales, reviews from customers).

Had one instance were I had a customer who was trying to exchange a pre-owned controller 30 days AFTER the original 30 days purchase date (60 days total). I turned to my ASM (Assistant store manager) and asked if I could, he said No. A week later, the SM pulls me into the back saying I should've exchanged it anyway. I told them I has already asked the ASM before politely refusing the customers, and the SM still insisted I should have done the exchange. :argue:

Yeah, sounds about right for Gamestop. I worked there between 2004 - 2010 starting as a Game Advisor and moving my way up to ASM. I could probably write a book on some of the stuff that went on during my time with the company. I've always said the biggest undoing of Gamestop would be the way they treat the employees and management across the board. It is hard to stay motivated when you are consistently given unrealistic expectations and routinely get barked at by virtually anyone above you regardless of your position.

Have you tried this personally? The fine print in the ad say limit 1 $5 bonus per pre-order.

Separate note, what's the refurb on <$5 games? ( I'm thinking $1)
I traded in a $2 base game yesterday and had a refurb on it of 75¢.

Does anyone know if you can extend pro membership, if you currently have elite pro? I have elite pro for like 1-2 more months, and I didn't end up upgrading while elite was still available cause I was busy. I used a birthday coupon to buy a used game the other day, and they said I couldn't extend elite or buy pro because my membership is currently elite. The employee told me it was discontinued, and I had to wait for it to expire before I could get pro. Has anyone has any experience with this? I want to continue my game informer sub but I may have to let it expire before I can re sub to pro again

You'll be fine letting it expire and resubbing to Pro. Most stores typically keep the previous months' issues of Game Informer if they still have them, plus the magazine is available digital if you are worried that you'll miss an issue.

I dont know 10 games worth a pre-order
Spiderman
Shadow of the tomb raider
Red dead redemption 2
Super mario party
Hitman 2
Smash Bros
Kingdom hearts
Days gone
Anthem
Last of us 2
Ghost of Tsushima
Death stranding

Not to mention call of duty, battlefield, assassin's creed, NBA 2k etc.
Didn't see Dragon Quest XI mentioned, but wanted to just in case anyone is looking for a JRPG to preorder. I'll be getting it from BB since I was able to use GCU right before it expired. Just a little annoyed the PO bonuses are retailer specific (GS, AMZ, PSN).

GS has an exp vest, 8 buttons, & 3 skill points.
AMZ: money vest+3 points
PSN: loot vest, 15 points, 3 agate of evo orbs

So you have to do separate transactions per game if you want to keep getting the $5 bonus on the same preorder?

Have you tried this personally? The fine print in the ad say limit 1 $5 bonus per pre-order.
Just to confirm, the promo will continue to work on your existing pre-order if you decide to go back the next day with another trade. I personally verified it at my local GS store ( received a $5 credit boost on a trade towards the Spiderman PS4 game pre-order yesterday, then today received another $5 boost on a game trade towards the SAME pre-order ... obviously at the same store.) Cheers!

The money vest from AMZ would definitely help, but GS is the only pre-order with a physical bonus, so they get my money (aka their money, aka trade credit from boomerangs)

Guarantee it was because they person filled out a negative survey, & the DM yelled at the store manager about it, who in turn yelled at you for doing your job. #sad

Probably wouldn’t happen now as GS offers warranties on all accessory purchases so you can stand behind they didn’t buy the warranty.

Hoo boy I remember the month the PUR credit card released. Our DM wanted 15+ applications a day, in addition to over 50% gpg and rewards card sales and we had to have a talk with the SM if we were under for more than 2 shifts in a row. Bad times man.
