The General 360 Owners/Buyers FAQ Thread (Updated 1/15/10)

Hmmm..

Rep is reputation...You raise your rep by building a reputation. Well a perceived reputation at the very least, its a big thing when you are in school and see the same people everyday I guess.

People with a bad rep are those who have the reputation of doing bad things. Make sense now?
How do i raise it what is it anyway?
You play games online, with other people, without acting like a douchey.

I have a few questions to ask:

1) Does it come with a free headset
2) How do I tell I'm getting the Falcon Chip?
3) If I already own the other 2 consoles, is this one really necessary?
4) Would it be wiser to pony up the extra money to get a 20 gig hard drive model, even though I can get a good deal on a 20 gb hard drive?

I am thinking about picking up one of these babies over the holidays since I heard about the new chipset. Since I can get a cheap 20 gb hard drive from a buddy of mine, and this bundle comes with Sega Superstars Tennis (not to mention the Arcade), AND that It has the wireless controller, it just seems like a no brainer. Thank's in advance, guys.

1. yes
2. unless your store has really old stock it is probably a falcon
3. yes
4. you can get a harddrive pretty cheap.

edit: no headset, but they are pretty cheap

^^^ you don't get a headset with the arcade.

If you can guarantee a HD from your buddy then stick with the arcade or pay $20 I think to get a refurbished HD from microsoft since their new dashboard thing requires a some memory. 20GB units are hard to come by now (in my area anyway), you might want to consider the 60gb HD if memory might be a concern for you, but its $100 more.

I can get a hard drive tuesday for a good price from a buddy of mine. I was wondering is it worth it to get the 60 gig for an extra 100 bucks or an already packed in HDD 20 gig for the extra 50.

Complete Contents of the Xbox 360 Arcade System

 • Xbox 360 console (without hard drive)
 • 256 MB Memory Unit
 • Wireless controller
 • Xbox LIVE Silver membership
 • Composite AV cable
 • 5 Arcade LIVE titles (included on disc): Feeding Frenzy, Luxor 2, Boom Boom Rocket, Pac-Man Championship Edition, Uno
 • Sega Superstars Tennis Game
Via Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Arca..._2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1224469624&sr=8-2

So yeah, I'll need to get a cheap headset; but the 256 MB, plus the 20 GB hard Drive, Plus the free memory program from Microsoft, plus the system, plus the game for 200? Not a bad deal...but I'm still unsure if I should pick this over 3-4 holiday games coming out...

Thats the question you have to answer your self....is memory important to you? Will you most likely be downloading lots of stuff on the hard drive (movies, demos, music, DLC, so on....). If you plan on putting games on your hard drive for faster loading, 60GB would prolly be the way to go since filling up a 20GB is pretty easy by just downloading demos.

Are the games that come with the Pro (60GB) games you are going to play or might have an interest in?

If you are referring to the holiday bundle, Indiana Jones doesn't look too bad and nobody honestly gives a crap about Kung Fu Panda. I'm just afraid of the backlog that's about to explode when I buy this thing. Also, I see the 20 GB hard drive as something to hold me over the Holidays and about halfway through 09 before I buy a 120 GB one in the future.

If you are planning on getting the elite later on, why not save up until you have enough to get the elite?
Wayyy too many games to buy.
hmmm...I'm guessing you will be getting some games that would be exclusive to the 360 (Gears 2) and that is why you want to get a 360 asap?

That, and the fact that there are wayy too many good games coming across the consoles (Gears 2, Fable, Animal Crossing, LBP, Resistance- even though thats already paid for), and 3 years of games to buy...

Well, Fable II comes out this week. If you must get a 360 to play this game. The cheapest and best route would be to get an Arcade (cheapest would be through Gamestop used or ebay). Then if you need the HD, get it from your buddy or do the Microsoft thing where you get the HD for $20. Then get a used headset or see if anyone on CAG is selling/trading one.

Well, I would no way in hell get a used console, especially a 360. Fable isn't even close to the front of my most anticipated list, just around there on games I plan on getting this holiday. And lastly, 2 20 gb hard drives would easilycarry me thru 09.
Would someone *please* tell me where I can buy the hard drives?
Gamestop or GameCrazy. Donno about GC, but from GS a refurbished 20 gig HDD is $60, $54 with the Edge card; and the 120 is, I believe, $100 ($90 after Edge).
I mean like could I use one of my pc adaptors on the 360?
Im confused about the pc adaptors part. A pic or a link please?

I picked up an Arcade Holiday Bundle two days ago, I have HDMI, and I have the falcon chipset, and I ordered the $30 refurbished 20gig hard drive with +3 month Live from Microsoft.

The refurbished 20 gig hard drive deal kind of forced my hand. I wasn't sure how long that deal would be up and I wanted to get it before it was gone. I'm just using it to play the exclusives really. As soon as the hard drive shows up I'm going to get Castle Crashers.

Having 2 hard drives and swapping out is pointless on the 360 because your profile can only be on 1 HD at a time and every time you swapped the hard drive you would have to move your profile from 1 drive to the other (either via the MU or by doing the gamertag restore.) Also that gets into DRM issues, which game saves are going to be on which HD, etc.

Either just get the (1) 20GB HD cheap from M$ or your friend, get a 60GB Pro, or get the Elite.

I was playing Dead Space, and all of sudden, the graphics got a little weird. Almost like vector graphics, where everything looked pencil drawn. I could still play fine, but it was bugging me, so I shut off the 360, and turned it back on...and now there is no picture or sound. The system is working fine (I can hear it spinning, loading, disc tray opens etc), and there are no Red Lights. Is this a problem with the AV Cable or what?

Any suggestions? I've already tried multiple TV's etc.

Thanks
One more thing to consider about the arcade--no HDMI. If your display can handle it, I'd say HDMI is the way to go.
The arcade has HDMI, I don't know what you're talking about.

Yeah, there are no arcades that have EVER not had HDMI. You haven't been able to buy a unit with no HDMI for over a year, if I'm remembering right. It was added on the second big version of the 360 (and we're now moving into the fourth big revision, shortly).

An extremely similar thing happened to me. I tried a gazillion things and ended up returning to for a new system from Microsoft. You might have to do the same

Yeah, that's no cable. A cable could not possibly do that. It's very clearly the GPU or something else major.

Out of curiosity, what generation 360 do you have? (Crosses fingers it's a first or second gen.)

My 20GB 360 that was purchased in Nov 2006 just RROD'd on me (I know, I can't imagine it lasted that long either, which is pretty sad). Anyway, my wife was smart enough (although I thought it was dumb at the time, before I knew about all the RROD problems) to buy the 2-yr protection plan from Best Buy. This allowed me to upgrade to an Elite last weekend when I made use of the plan. So basically, $40 to go from 20GB to 120GB, have HDMI support, and avoid the hassle of shipping stuff back to Microsoft. Not bad at all.

Now my question is, Should I buy a new 2-year protection plan from Best Buy for the Elite I have now? I haven't yet, but I have 30 days to decide. My initial thought was that the Elite should survive 2 years since it has the 65 nm chip, but now I'm having second thoughts. Do Elites RROD just as consistently as the old ones did? For those who have or know people who have Elites, what has your experience been? Btw, I got the Elite that included the Marvel UA/Forza 2 bundle. Anyway, I welcome any advice on whether I should get the protection plan.

My hope is that the Elites are of higher quality than the initial batch of 360's, which were apparently made of crap.

You have three options for your warranty, though BB, through MS, or through a third-party warranty company like Squaretrade.

BB is a replacement plan, where you pay for the ability to switch it out with BB and get a new 360. Single use only.

MS is a warranty, that extends the 1 year warranty to 3 years for all non-RROD issues.

Squaretrade's warranty will have the unit fixed if it's something their network of repair personnel can fix, otherwise, you'll get a check for the purchase price of the item.

I keep getting disk read errors with Chinese words. Last night it kicked me out of dead space an said i had an error. Is it going to break?Any fixes?
