The General 360 Owners/Buyers FAQ Thread (Updated 1/15/10)
It's not hard it just takes a long time. The feature has been around for awhile now so they probably walk you through it step by step, the Official Xbox Magazine had an article on it as well. Just switch the license and then re-download everything from your download history. (I did this when a while ago when they did not have the transfer tool online and just redownloding worked for me.) I seriously think they need a re-download all button though.
Do I have to delete the games off of my hard drive, or do I just save over the old ones?

hey I had a quick question, I just bought an elite console and on the box it said there was a free netflix trial card/ 48 hour code,I can't find it, is it in the lego Indiana/ Panda game case? I won't open that because I'm actually giving it as a gift.

I have a question. A guy I work with is giving me an xbox 360, he says it freezes when it starts up, any idea what the issue could be? Or any idea how much it would cost to get it repaired? If I can't fix it myself. I think it's an older model from launch or around that time.

Is there something that needs to be configured for voice chat to work? I was playing COD4 tonight and nothing I tried made my mic work. I couldn't hear others speaking either. I tried 2 different mics and 2 different controllers. I'm connecting wirelessly using the official 360 wifi adapter. I can connect to Xbox live without a problem. Any thoughts?

quick question...recently my wireless (& when i am wired/charging) controllers have been disconnecting. I have synced the one controller 4 times w/ the console today. still for no reason it will just start flashing all 4 quadrants then eventually connect back up.

Since I own 2 wireless controllers I thought trying the other controller but i found myself resyncing it 2 times already while watching 10minutes of a netflix flim. I am using the same rechargable battery pack since i only use one. Is this a battery issue? Any warrenty on that?

Any ideas what this problem could be? This is very annoying :/

Try both controllers with some known good batteries-regular alkaline if need be. If neither stays connected, it's probably your Xbox's wireless hardware not working. I'd try unplugging the system for a few minutes too just to reset it.
Is there a way to check if your NAT is open on the new dashboard? Testing live doesn't show it anymore.
That's what I'd like to know too since I think that's what's causing my mic problems.

I just decided to open up my ports and it worked. I'm not sure which of these did it, but here they are:

Xbox Game Server Port (TCP): 22042
Voice Chat Port (TCP/UDP): 22043-22050

Just in case anyone else is having trouble getting voice chat in game working.

also wanna add...i used the default battery pack w/ the AA's in them. I got the same result. So i disconnected the battery completely from the controller and just had the play n charge hooked up to the console and controller. Still disconnects after a minute or so. this is very annoying. I tried this method on both of my controllers? Is my console defective? I just got it back from a RROD in october....guh this shit is annoying. Makes gaming impossible.

Edit: problem Fixed. I use my laptop's wifi to get my xbox online. normally i have the controller next to me and the laptop on my lap. for some reason now the wifi on the laptop is bothering my xbox. I have used this exact same setup for 3months. So I just moved my laptop 5feet away from where i use my xbox and it works perfectly.

Does a 360 have built-in wifi capabilities?

If not, can you connect an ethernet cable to a laptop that uses wi-fi to get internet access on a 360?

No wifi built in but you can connect it to your laptop via internet connection sharing

I can't find the NXE thread or I'd post this there.

Does anyone know where to view your rep details? I can't find them since NXE. I can't find them online either.

Hint: Packet loss on the Wireless basically means that unless it's a slow game, forget about winning often. I know I'm going off topic, but if you want to go for online gaming without wireless (due to packet loss, signal degradation etc), then you want to look into Powerline devices. I've got a Netgear set and it's made things much faster than what I had when I had wireless and I used ICS.

Your best bet for maximum enjoyment out of the 360 wirelessly is to bite the bullet and get the stupid wireless networking adapter. The problem with it is that its $99.99 new. You may be able to find it cheaper on eBay or if your local Gamestop has a used one its $69.99 and if you're an edge card member its about 63 or so after the discount.

It doesn't have built in wi-fi capabilities, but you can connect to the internet from your laptop, I've done something similar with a Linksys Wi-Fi Adapter.

I use my desktop wireless Wifi to connect my xbox 360 to internet and I don't seen to have problem with online playing. I have good stat in COD4/COD5 =).

You have no clue what you are talking about. No clue.

I just got xbox live but all my save files are on the profile without xbox live.
Does anyone know if you can move save files from one gamer profile to another?
Or can you change a gamer profile to xbox live?

I don't believe you can associate saves with other profiles. I'm upset that somehow my Forza 2 save got associated with my fiancee's gamertag and she's never played the damned game.

I have heard that you can gift xbox points/games to other friends, how would I go about doing this? Would the points be coming out of my point balance, or would I have to add points from a credit card? I currently don't have a CC on file with xbox live.

I am wanting to gift the bankshot billiards 2 game to a friend.

Any help on this matter would be appreciated.

I would like to know this information as well. My brother plays GOW2 a lot and I'd like to gift him the new map pack or 800 points to buy it. Any way to do this?

2 questions:
1 how do i get it to sign me in automattically?
2 Does it tell your friends what video you are watching, when watching a video from hard drive or netflix?
thanks

Does anyone here have the official 360 adapter? I just sold mine to some broad and she's claiming there's a bump in the antenna joint that prevents it from going all the way up. I can't remember if this is true or not.

Does the antenna move pretty smoothly?

I was going to post this question as well. Gifting was suppose to be out around the time of NXE, but I don't think it's implemented yet. Which is stupid, since Christmas would be the perfect time.

Edit: After some digging, I did find this post from major nelson about it on Christmas Eve of last year. Apparently it was allowed (in a beta form) but when I go to the links he mentions (the official points site) there is nothing there about gifting so I think it's disabled.

Would like to get some more answers on this from MS.

So how difficult is the DRM transferring process?

My brother's house burned down last week, thankfully the family and quite a few of the irreplaceables are unharmed. Unfortunately the drive to his son's Xbox 360 didn't quite make it, even after I opened it up and cleaned it.

Thankfully, someone's already offered to give him there 360. So now I just have to help transfer his profile and save data, with exception of the big DLC (Halo 3 Legendary Pack), so I'm curious how painful the whole DRM transfer process is.
Is there anyway to connect a 360 to a wireless network without buying the microsoft wireless adapter? Is there a cheaper alternative?
Yes. Do an amazon/google/live search for "Wireless gaming adapter."

does anyone know how i can get audio from the receiver only? Currently I'm getting audio from the TV speakers + receiver. An HDMI and toslink is connected to my 360. Didn't have this problem connecting with VGA and Component.

Yes I know in most games you can do this in the options menu. However, some games like Dark Messiah and possibly Silent Hill 5, you can't invert your Y-axis which sucks for people like me who have to use the "aviator" control scheme (up=look down, down=look up)

Now some time ago, someone told me that you could make any game default to the aviator controls by choosing some kind of option somewhere in the dashboard. This trick did work for DMMM and I could now play as an archer.

However, with the NXE, this may have somehow reset itself as evident when I was playing Silent Hill 5. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and if it can be done with the new dashboard?

Thanks,

I just got a 60GB hard drive and want to transfer the data from my 20GB to it. Do I need another 360 system? Also does anyone have a spare transfer kit?

http://www.xbox.com/hi-IN/support/systemuse/xbox360/gameplay/game-defaults.htm

Set Game Defaults with Xbox 360

Use the Game Defaults screen in your gamer profile to establish default settings for games you're about to play for the first time and for all future games. (Games you've played already will continue to use the original game defaults.)
Almost every game gives you the option to change settings like vertical look, controller layout, or player color. In the past, you had to manually set these in each new game. With Xbox 360™, however, you can set your preferences once and all your games will follow suit.
To change your game defaults, select your gamer card from any area in the Xbox Dashboard, then select Game Defaults. There are three categories, each with four default settings:
 1. General: Difficulty, Primary Color, Secondary Color, Controller Sensitivity
 2. Action: Y-Axis, Movement, Auto-Aim, Auto-Center
 3. Racing: Transmission, Camera Angle, Brake Control, Accelerator Control
So, for instance, if you always like your camera to hang off the front of your car in racing games, change the Camera Angle setting to Front. Then, the first time you start any racing game, the camera will be automatically set to the front of the car.
Note
If you set up or change a default setting after you've already played the game, the game won't pick up the changes on its own. Default settings are only picked up the very first time you play the game.

Anyone know why my wireless mouse does not respond anymore when my 360 is on? My monitor serves both my comp and 360 and I haven't had a problem before I removed the console and later hooked it up again.

Anyone every use the Skullcandy Lowrider headphones/mic for 360? I got one today for Christmas from my GF. She wasn't sure if they were good or not. It was the only one available at the time and she said I can exchanged it for something else. I found a couple reviews online and they seem to be mediocre. Good for sound but not voice chat. The Turtle Beach EarForce are probably better right?
yeah i've been turning down the volume. Is that the only option left?
yeah. What else would you expect? You have audio going to your tv. How would your 360 know that you are using surround sound and want the tv audio off?
