The General 360 Owners/Buyers FAQ Thread (Updated 1/15/10)
That's a negative, KaneRobot. An HDMI cable is just that, a cable. The additional cable (component/composite/optical) is a completely different thing. As far as I know, the XBox will not output along the HDMI and the component at the same time, so the optical cable is pointless if you want to use HDMI.

As for cables. Monoprice.com is my go to for cables of all kinds, but HDMI cables are the best at Amazon. They are third party, but I picked up 3 10 footers for 30 bucks including shipping. Best Buy will charge 50 for one of the same cable. I haven't had any problems with any of the cables I have purchased from Amazon.
Not true about the optical. It may vary from receiver to receiver or not but some need the optical cable to be able to output 5.1 in their surround sound systems. I remember reading in some forums that without it, you would only be getting a fake surround sound (pretty much an enhanced stereo). This I mean just with the 360 in itself and not any other thing.

Still trying to figure out the coded message.

Trades for me today:

Blockbuster
Hellboy Xbox 360: $35
Monster Jam Wii: $30
Escape From Bug Island Wii: $16 (Drop from first Page)
Luxor pharaoh's Challenge Wii: $20

EB Games Base (Edge + Deal or Coupon)
Spider-Man Friend or FOe Xbox 360: $5 ($10.50)
Sega Rally Revo Xbox 360:$5 ($10.50)
Fear Files Xbox 360: $8 ($13.80)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Darkness DS: $20 ($27.00)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Time DS: $20 ($27.00)

Also was in Blockbuster and apparently they've gotten their shipments for next week already as all the employee's were standing around playing Star Wars: Force Unleashed on the PS3 that most have setup in the stores. Street date isn't until Tuesday.
You should definitely call corporate and report that guys attitude; it can't possibly be good for business there. Maybe mention that the experience left you emotionally scarred with feelings of inexplicable guilt.:joystick:
LOL The guy gave me this long speech about gaming and all. I just let him ramble since I had no place to be, but he was annoying as hell with his anti gaming shpeel. If it wouldn't draw attention to my trading history, I just might consider calling corporate, but it's not that big of a deal.

I have to find my receipt for Force Unleashed, since I think I'm gonna just cancel the PO. This is due mainly to the fact that I haven't even played more than maybe 5% of Mercenaries 2 since I picked it up almost 2 weeks ago now.

I'm trying to actually control my splurge purchases and limiting myself to ONE game at a time lately.

HDMI
My HDTV is currently connected to my stereo system(which I have 4 speakers coming from that) So basically I have the audio cables from my tv going into the stereo. If I get a cheap HDMI cable from amazon.com will the sound work through the stereo system?
My Gamerush store is getting converted into the BB Electronics store, so who knows, maybe in a few months, we can use our BB Credit to buy a TV from BB.
Which one is that? We're vaguely thinking about replacing the TV in the living room and my mother and sister live in Tampa - so making a day trip once they get up and running wouldn't be such a bad way to spend my credit.

Yeah, it'd be nice if they converted the plain old BBV at my place into either a GR or something that sells TVs at least, since right now my good TV is at the dorm, so I'm playing stuff on a 19" SDTV at home... it's not easy. I have to sit, like, two feet from the screen.
Still trying to figure out the coded message.
Sorry about that. Left message board open and my 4 year old pounded on the keys and somehow got the message posted.
I think she was trying to say "stop telling my dad about good flips, I'm sick of going to Blockbuster!"

GS TIV (Edge + Cellfire)
PMD: Time - 28.00
PMD: Darkness - 28.00

Both are 20.00 base.

GS Cost: Alone in the Dark Wii: (Cellfire + Edge) 17.49.

BBV TIV:

AitD Wii: 30.00
WSOP: BftB: 20.00 (13.something cost)

That's funny. My 3 year old loves going with me to all the GS and BBV stores.
That's funny. My 3 year old loves going with me to all the GS and BBV stores.
My 2 year old does as well. She's at the point now where if we go into one of the stores she keeps saying "down" until I put her down. She runs amok at each place while I try to hunt for flippable titles. If I find one I usually just hand it off to her to keep her from pulling stuff off of the shelves.

So, the idea is to go to GameStop, buy those two PMD games for $20 each with EDGE + Cellfire, then come back later and trade them in with the EDGE + coupon to get $28?

I've always sat that far away from the tv when playing a game. When I had my Atari 2600 hooked up as a kid, I would sit indian style with the Atari right in front of me, with the tv(black & white) right in front of that.

Now, I just sit up on my bed, right next to the table my PS3 is on and about 3-4 feet from my 20" SDtv.

What? No. Buy them from BBV for $25 each and trade to GS for $28 each...

As for this whole Cellfire thing, that cheeses me off - I don't do the pictures on the phone thing. Bah...

Well, I'm running out of credit here. I have about $90 at Blockbuster and $50 at GameStop after buying a Wii at BB, among other things. Any way for me to make more credit right now would be quite lovely. I'll have to pick up the Wii Sports titles I saw to make a profit.

Alright, so I am a little confused now... What PS3 SKUs do GameRush carry?

So far I have only come across the 40 GB with Spiderman 3 for $399 and the 40 GB Bundle with Transformers, Spiderman 3, 12 Week Rental Pass, Blu Ray remote and extra controller.

Also does anyone know if there are plans to carry the 80GB soon?

Just traded Eye of Judgement for $30 in my local BBV. I used a permanent marker to black out the pic and the part on the case that says "Comes with Eye Toy" just in case they would try to tell me no.

Sweeter thing about this trade was that I went to Walmart and bought the Eye of Jugdement/Eye Toy bundle for $30 so I pretty much got the camera for free... ;-)

Easy return the WII it sucks i bought one a couple of weeks ago. To me the system is all hype u turn it on a few times and then it collects dust. As long as u have an xbox or ps3 thats all you need in life. Go get your credit back if u stil can

Traded :360: Dynasty Warriors Gundam today for $35 to help pad the credit balance at BB. There's a Gamerush down the road from my new apartment that I've decided to frequent for my gaming needs - after the guy called me to tell me I could pick up Rock Band 2 anytime tomorrow (a day early), he scored points with me.

Was just in Blockbuster and got to see my copy of Rock Band 2, but then they looked up the release date and said I couldn't have it till Sunday  (edit - just read your post JJSP - I now officially hate you ;)). They only got one in for sale so I made sure they'd hold it for me (I preordered it). It was a bit disturbing to see that they had slapped a price tag on it so it didn't seem they were holding it for me until I asked about it.

I also noticed they got Spore Creatures in which I had also preordered and they didn't bother to call about or hold for me either. But that's OK as I decided after reading the middling reviews that I didn't want it anyway. The good news is that they finally got Animal Crossing City Folk in the system so I swapped the Spore Creatures preorder over to that. They still don't have Wario Land Shake It or the new Kirby DS game in the system though. Oh, and they had Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir for sale new.

And still no Rock Band 2 drums on order so I'll get those at Gamestop next week I guess. Tomorrow I'm going in to trade Rock Band 1 - gotta get some more play out of it tonight (and transfer the songs).

I had the same problem on my cell phone, I couldn't get it to work. Just print out the coupon and it will work fine. I already used it about 5 times, no one asked anything.

Really? I thought they were trained to only accept if via the phone. You know, I don't even know what it is, really - it seems people talk about it being a 30% bonus credit AND a 30% off used game coupon. Is it really both?

I would like to start flipping games, but all of this is so overwhelming. I have a Blockbuster and (three) Gamestops in close vicinity, and I would like to start flipping in order to save up for a PS3 to get when LittleBigPlanet is released. Does anyone have any tips? I've been reading through here, and it's all pretty intimidating.

EDIT: I suppose the first step is to buy an EDGE card. Hmm. I'll do that tomorrow.

There is a 30% bonus on trades, or 20% off used games. I believe each has limits. I know you can only get a max of 3 games with the 20% of games one. I just printed the coupon on the first page of the cell phone thread, and they took it without question.

Traded in Rainbow Six for $10.50 after edge and bonus with two other games. Just noticed that it's in the 50% off price tag bin tagged at $17.99 ($7.20 if edge applies to the full 17.99) making it an actual money making flip if you need another game and you're making a multiple GS run with no BBVs in between.

As of 2 hours ago, my BBV still hasn't received their copies of RB2, which has me a bit concerned. The manager told me they typically get saturday shipments as well, so my fingers are crossed. Gonna have to drop in before work tomorrow and find out.
Hmm Alone in the Dark is running 24.99 used at Gamestop now (-30% runs at 17.00 in credit). Not a bad flip. As good as the CC clearance sale (without that bonus 20%) without having to use cash.
Interesting, the price has not updated online yet. Confirmation, price has not changed in store either. Still 44$

The Land O Lakes Gamerush. Needless to say, its a work in progress, so I wouldn't expect it overnight.

I guess it's time to start building up credit to get a new TV... :D

FYI for people planning on buying GTA4 for $34.XX. Today I bought a copy and in the comptuer it was still ringing up $44.XX even though the stickers did say $34.XX. CSR did fix the charge but still make sure to double check your bills becuase in some systems it will come up $44.XX

The 30% bonus requires 2 games to be traded in at one time. What's nice about these coupons is that they don't have the usual language about one coupon per customer/visit. I even made a PDF with barcodes to make it easier on the store associates and haven't had any problems thus far at 3 different stores.

Anyone?? I know we got some BB/GR workers in here.

From what I've seen, GR carries the 20gb, 40gb, 60gb, 80gb motorstorm, 80gb MGS, and whatever other bundles they do.

Thanks Bezerker... I guess now it is up to just finding something other than the 40GB bundle(s).
Damn you blockbuster.. why don't you have MillionHeir. Now I have to spend GS credit.
Really? I just posted earlier that even my little podunk store got a copy of that to sell. Give 'em a few days and I'm sure they will have it. Or at least ask them if they have one on order (or it already came and sold possibly).

1) Check on GS deals and promos. Right now there is a trade in 3 PS3/360/Wii games, get an extra $15 credit, a cell phone coupon for an extra 30% on trade-ins, and a paper coupon for an extra 25% on PSP/DS trade-ins. Generally, you want to wait for a coupon like the 25% off used 360 games that was running two weeks ago.

2) Check the first post of this topic and the last few pages for information on the profitable flips.

3) Go to GS with all the relevant coupons and buy what you need. Remove the stickers on your way out.

4) Go to BBV and trade them in. I recommend you only do one copy of a given game at a time, so they don't get suspicious.

5) If you'd rather have GS credit rather than BBV credit, buy the profitable and/or 1:1 flips from BBV (again, check the thread) using your new BBV credit and trade them to GS.

Just got back from BBV and they had PSN $20 and $50 on display. Tried to purchase one but they couldn't get it to ring because they didn't have it yet in the computer system.

Bought the two Pokemon Mystery Dungeons to flip, and a copy of Professor Layton for myself. Since I bought a DS at BB a few weeks ago, I'm down to just $36.03 in credit! I'm glad there's a chance to replenish my GameStop credit, I went a little overboard when they had the GameCube 30% off coupon 2 months ago and the DS 25% off coupon a few weeks ago.

Anyone know what date GR will be getting in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (360\PS3) for sale. I have it pre-ordered, and I could have sworn the guy said the 16th. But Gamestop has the 16th down as the shipping date, so I might have to assume the 17th. Or they may not bother getting it in 'till friday. Anyone know?

DRM license transfer:

I bought an Arcade to replace my ailing 2 year old Pro, and am getting a new 120gb HDD in a couple weeks as a birthday present. I have the 20gb from my Pro on the Arcade unit right now. question is, if I do the license transfer now, will it carry over to when I transfer the data between HDDs, or should I wait until after I transfer the data to do the license transfer? basically, I don't want to get screwed if I do the license transfer early, since you can only do it once every 12 months.

I can wait a couple weeks if I have to, but I'd like to get it over with and be able to play Geometry Wars 2 without being signed into Live.

thanks for any help.

The 16th is the street date and many stores seem to be getting it early. Best way to tell if the store is getting by the release date is signage in the windows. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Soul Calibur, Madden, and Force Unleashed have all been featured on the window with the release date as the date available.

Like I said in my earlier post, I was in my local BB yesterday (Friday) and the guys already had their copies of Force Unleashed in, and were even playing it on the TV in the store.
