The General 360 Owners/Buyers FAQ Thread (Updated 1/15/10)
Heard a lot about Peggle. How long does it take to get 200/200 and how long is the single player? Not too interested in the rest...but any other suggestions are good
Well the achievements are pretty hardcore but you can probably get half within a day. Its the game and achievements that you'll be working on for a while. The single player has 55 levels and after that you can try all 75 challenges if not a duel with the AI or online match.
I found out by accident that pressing start on the controller turns on the 360. Did anyone else know about this? I only thought the guide button could turn the console on.
I'll be damned...it worked. I tried pressing the start button...nothing, then pressed it several times and nothing. Then finally held it down, the ring of lights on the controller lit and xbox is on. You learn something new everyday
i accidentally blocked communication from a buddy on my list.. anyone know how to allow communication again.. i cant find anything
Send them a message. It will automatically unblock them. When you block someone, a little warning pops up, and this is what they tell you do.

I'd never heard of that either, and I've had one since launch (well...not the SAME one :D )

I thought it was only the big X that turned it on.
I'm looking for a really good SINGLE PLAYER XBLA title. Any suggestions? I barely have any XBLA games, so throw out anything... basically I want it to at least last more than a couple hours too.
Braid is awesome. It might be a bit short for you, but it's amazing while it lasts. Well worth it (although I picked it up when it was Deal of the Week).

Heard a lot about Braid too and ya, its apparently real short. Looking for something with a bit more replayability.

I guess it depends on how easy you find it. I'm working my way through it VERY SLOWLY, because I'm not using any hints (also, I suck). I usually hit a wall on one of the puzzles, stay away for a week or two, then come back and have an epiphany on how to solve the level.

The frustration is high, but so is the rush when I figure it out.

That's one that I really WANT to try, but I think I'd stuck at and get stuck in 5 minutes. I'm usually terrible at puzzles.

I am BY NO MEANS a proficient puzzle-solver, and I'm finding Braid difficult, but do-able. A lot of it is just goofing around, trying different things to see if any of them work, and sometimes something will just occur to me, and then I just tear right through the puzzle.

The great thing is that you can race through a level without actually solving it, so if you get really stuck on one particular puzzle, you can just move on to another level and come back later to the head-scratcher.

Right now I'm completely finished worlds 2, 3 & 4 and have partially completed worlds 5 & 6. I'm also in one of my periodic "break" periods, as I let my subconscious work out some puzzles that have got me stumped.

Just tried the Peggle demo...quite fun :D. Might get that...also, I remembered Geometry Wars and I've never bought neither the first or second. That said, if I were to buy one which should it be? The first one is half the price of the second, but the second seems to have better features...

If you're trying to save some money then grab the Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged disc and get Geometry Wars along with Wik: Fable of Souls, Outpost Kaloki X, Bejeweled 2, Hardwood Backgammon, and Texas Hold 'em. I just got the disc, I like having my arcade games on my hard drive but the price was pretty decent, from Bandian Games which I found on pricegrabber.

Just wrote a review for them but its prob not up yet, never heard of the merchant but all positive experience from my purchase. They even buy back the games later on if you're bored with them which I thought was pretty cool.

Geometry Wars 2 is good but you can wait for that one to go down in price while playing the other six games.

wow great deal. I'll hold off on that then too...man I was just trying to find some good XBLA games to get cause I won't have internet for awhile. Not much out there though...Peggle, Bionic Commando rearmed, and Keflings all seemed pretty good as did Geo Wars. Can't Peggle be obtained for free on the PC though?

Cool. Thanks for the info. Well, what with all these Amazon deals, it may be something I get sooner or later! (I have a random number of points whose value in dollars I don't even know :D )

Hey CAGs I have been trolling the forums and listening to the CAGcast for a long time now and I figured now was as good a time as any to post. What is the game can i pick up that will give me a lot of play time? I already have cod4 and play on live all the time, but I need something new. I've been looking at fallout 3, but I am not sure how long it is. Any suggestions? :twoguns:
Orange Box
Burnout Paradise
Rock Band 2
Dead Rising
Agreed, though I think the other two are YMMV.

FO3 can be beaten if you rush through it in around 6-10 hours (Depending on how good you are, difficulty etc.), but if you screw around there is a lot there. Not to mention the DLC.

There's also Bethesda's other gem, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I have yet to meet anyone who didn't like it and I myself have put over a hundred hours in to it.

Just a note, if you have a good PC get Orange Box on that instead of the 360. TF2 is way better on the PC.

Xbox 360 Top Live Titles (based on UU’s)

1 Halo 3
2 Call of Duty: WaW
3 Call of Duty 4
4 Gears of War 2
5 GTA IV
6 RESIDENT EVIL 5
7 FIFA 09
8 Left 4 Dead
9 Halo Wars
10 Guitar Hero World Tour

If you like RPGs you might want to pick up the new Star Ocean game. I got over 30 hours out of it on my first playthrough, and I didn't even complete all the sidequests.

Oh and to answer you question about Fallout 3, it is a very long game. The Main missions are short, but I did a lot of exploring and side quests. I think it lasted me about 30 hours to beat, and I only completed about half of the side quests.

I was not really interested in Fallout 3, but I decided to give it a try. Believe me I have NO REGRETS about buying this game. The only problem is that you level up very fast. I was at level 19 (20 is the highest level you can get) when I beat the game, and remember I only completed half of the side quests. However the "Broken Steel" DLC should fix that.

thanks.. ill try that

Burnout Paradise is, what, 20 bucks now? That fits the bill. Orange Box is cheap now as well but I've always preferred the Half-Life series (and mods) on the PC - but that's just because that's how I'm used to them, if you've never played the PC versions the 360 version is more than fine. And has achievements.

Rock Band is ultra-cheap now if you look in the right place, that'll keep you busy for a while and opens you up to the wonderful world of DLC songs, and it'll hold you over if you want to wait until RB2 drops down to that $20 range, likely sometime later this year.

I agree with most of what's posted, but I'll toss Viva Pinata out there. Ultra cheap and if it gets its hooks into you, 60 hours will fly by in no time.

thanks for all the replies! I have the orange box and have beaten it several times over, I think I'll drive down to the local game crazy and take some of these suggestions with me! My 360 just got back from Microsoft after getting the rrod so i have to make up for all the lost gaming time :p

Here are some of my most played 360 games.

Rock Band series- 100s of hours
Guitar Hero series- 100s of hours
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion- 140 hours
Fallout 3- 90 hours
GTA IV- 78 hours
Bioshock- 40 hours
Mass Effect- 40 hours
Call of Duty 4 online- 40 hours
Saint's Row 2- 23 hours
Fable 2- 23 hours
Saint's Row 1- 22 hours
The Orange Box- 20 hours
Bully- 20 hours
Tony Hawk's Project 8- 17 hours
Skate- 17 hours

Yea Oblivion GOTY with the expansion packs, as well as the other DLC, will give you tons of play time. The Orange Box is simply a great value now at $20 for 5 games. Also, if you like MMORPGS, then FFXI online will keep you entertained for months, but you have to pay a subscription every month. Fallout 3 is another good choice since it's just Oblivion set in an apocalyptic time with guns. Plus it has new DLC coming to it as well to make it more expansive. Really, any popular online game that keeps you coming back (COD4) will keep you busy for a while.

I am planning on buying a few games later this week and I was wondering what some of the best games that are $25 and under? I like all kinds of games.

currently at my walmart they have 007 Casino Royale for the xbox 360 for only 27.00 , it uses the same online engine as the call of duty series. its a great gamer.

That's a pretty broad request. Outside of several of the games at the Best Buy sale (all of varying types)... there's a few great games worth grabbing, like Crackdown... or the first Viva Pinata...
