Yeah, the Wii is just a Gamecube, and handles saving identically to the Gamecube for Gamecube games. The 360 emulates it, so can put the save whereever Microsoft decides to put it, which in this case is the hard drive, just like 360 native games. (I've found a number of games though where it doesn't let you copy saves off, which is lame...don't know if that's for all Xbox 1 games or not.)

Well actually your 360 was not polling the hdtv, it was using the settings that you specified.

The new NXE actually polls the hdtv if your using hdmi or dvi and sets the screen to the best possible settings.

Well he's not quite right about the party thing, it is in the beta NXE which I'm using right now. I think you can still get into the beta through connect.microsoft.com (or majornelson.com's link). It's scheduled for release in the very near future.

Honestly Netflix is the best, but not everything is available online.
 
I completely forgot I signed on for the preview, but then a system update notification pops up before. So nice to finally have some more options with the Netflix streaming.

Are you sure? Maybe I'm forgetting and just thinking of the PS3. I bet that's it. On the PS3 it autodetects what the TV supports, but then I have to set it up manually on my 720p set so that it doesn't use 1080i (I want it only outputting 480 or 720p).

Not hugely useful, although I bet there are some people with an HDTV, and an Xbox/Playstation, who aren't running it in HD :lol:
 
How do I get my 360 to recognize .ma4 files? I'm guessing that I need first to get my Windows Media Player to put them into its Library...but I can't do it!
 
Do any of you know whats wrong with my rechargeable MS batteryplay and charge kit?

I've had it for a while, but now when I charge using the quick play thing, the light that shows its charging goes to green right away, but if i take it off, then it just shuts off, and doesn't turn on because it doesnt have battery. What's going on?

edit: oh and how to fix it

the batteries go bad sometimes...sounds like you need to buy new ones
 
I know with NXE there is blade lag but on my console it is unbearable. If I am playing a game almost every time I hit the guide button and go to my friends list there will be 30-60 sec lag. My friends list will then load up i will click on a friend and then again 30-60 seconds lag. Also with certain games i notice slight lag when they are saving. For instance, Marvel vs Capcom 2 has some trouble sometimes saving and takes longer than usual.

Could this be an issue with my HDD or is the just normal occurrences with NXE? It seems to happen to me all the time and friends of mine who have a 360 it does not happen to as much just once in a while.
 
I posted awhile ago that I bought a Piece of Shit headset for the Xbox 360 from Toys R Us. The distributor was www.neweraonline.com

Well I got a replacement headset and my voice is clear when I do a record, plus the mic goes OFF ON when I speak. That's how the headset is supposed to work.The first one I got though did not go OFF, and just stayed ON the whole fucking time.

Anyway, costs abt $13.30. Cheap Ass Hell.

Works good I guess with Marvel VS Capcom 2.

My first controller which I played with for years with absolutely no problems is now sticking to the right or forward (in fighting games).

Meaning, even though the stick is centred, things in the console even at dash-board moves to the right, I mean I dealt with wired controllers that stuck before, ps2...nes...etc...just take out and blow, but I never dealt with a wireless one before!

I read one ONE summary that I have to take it apart and clean, before that, I would love to hear other methods.
 
I use rubbing alcohol whenever my controller gets sticky. Maybe a paper towel dap w/ alcohol as you rotate the thumb stick will work for you.
 
It sounds to me like either something has gotten in the controller and is triggering the touchpad, or something inside has broken. Honestly, it's probably get a new controller time. My damn PS3 controller since day 1 randomly disconnects itself, which makes everything go to the right until it is reconnected, for some reason. I'm assuming you are talking about a 360 one. My original one actually sticks to the right as well. You can unstick it though, but I'm thinking the current gen of controller just aren't made that well, despite the price. I have controllers I've had for 20 years that still work fine. Don't think that's going to be the case with anything from this gen.
 
You could always take apart the controller, and give it a good cleaning. :) I don't think it's too far-fetched, considering we're on CAG.

It looks like the screws are like a Torx screwdriver with a column in the middle.

I googled it, it's like 2 bucks on Amazon, plus S&H. I'd post the link, but I'm new, and can't.
 
So I got a new LCD monitor for my setup. It has speakers, which the old one didn't and I would "pipe" my audio through my PC's sound card. I'd like to be unshackled from my PC though but if I'm using a VGA cable there isn't a sound cable?! I've got a sound cable for the monitor but unless I'm using the composite cable there doesn't seem to be a way I can get audio from my 360 to the monitor?!

What VGA cable are you using? Maybe I'm not understanding, but Microsoft's cable has the normal L/R audio cables as part of it, just like the component/composite cables. It also comes with some adapters, like one that takes those two normal cables down to a normal PC-style stereo jack (3.5mm I guess it is).

Out of curiosity, how big are you guys' friends lists? I've got maybe 5 people on there, since I don't have gold and there's not much point to it...could that be why mine seems fast? I've always assumed that, but don't actually know. (Still think the new interface is more confusing though, other than I've memorized where stuff is.)

Ahahaha, I didn't see that as it was behind the desk (actually plugged into the PC) along with all the other wires back there. Yea that will work, thanks, *smacks forehead*.

My 360 doesn't have HDMI but if I did have that I'd use it.
 
I read the rumor on Kotaku that the Elite might become $300. If this is true I'll probably sell my 20GB Pro and buy it. I want a bigger HD and might as well get a newer system with less chance of red ringing as well. My question is, how hard is it to transfer saves, DLC, and other stuff to the new HD? How would I even do that?
 
DLC transfers are allowed once per year, you will have to redownload every piece of content. Tedious to say the least. There are devices out there that support copying a disks content to a new hd, they run about 30-50$, or you could just use a memory card if you have one. You need to use the license transfer approach for your DLC if ppl other than the original content purchaser use the xbox (like kids for instance).

So for the DLC/games I can just redownload them, and for the saves, put everything on a memory card then move it over to the new HD? I'm the only one who uses my 360. All the achievement stuff is tied to your email right?

Just move your live account information using the memory card as well.

It's more than that-you'll want to go through the license transfer process (which can be done once a year), BEFORE redownloading anything, or else you'd be redownloading stuff twice.

I'm confused. If I do the license transfer, I only have to download once? Why would I have to DL twice if I don't?

Okay, if you download it on the new system BEFORE doing a license transfer, then after you do the license transfer, you'll have to redownload everything, as I understand it-so you'd be stuck doing it twice.
 
Basically, what Wolfpup is trying to say is that you should transfer the license before downloading all your content to the new system. If you download all your content before doing the license transfer, you will need to re-download everything again to allow offline play, and sharing between other profiles, etc... essentially making the license transfer pointless until you downloaded everything again.

Yeah, the instructions are on the Xbox site. The only catch is you can only do it once a year, but normally that should be good enough.
 
Has anyone had trouble with their conroller not regonzing your 360 during startup? For the last few days, my controller has lost its connection with my 360, and I have to "re-find" it again during startup. Not sure if its a controller thing or my 360 itself, and I dont currently have another working controller to test it.
 
I had a 3rd party battery that would cause that. I was told that the controllers had been modified in a h/w recent revision in such a way that the battery / controller would no longer sync reliably.

They replaced the battery, and the problem went away.
 
Hmm, well my battery is a 1st party from a plug and play charge kit, so I dont think thats the problem. The controller itself is a few years old too so if there were revisions made to it, I dont believe I have a newer model.
 
About the battery, how would it even know? I mean I've only used "third party" batteries with mine, because I've never used an Xbox specific battery (although now I don't use my wireless controller at all).
 
Sometimes my controller doesn't work to start up the 360 while pushing the guide button. I just switch the battery from the one thats being charged and it works. Thing is the battery that was switched was not all the way down so thats kinda weird. Anyone else experience this, they are getting a bit old now though.
 
So it might have to do with the battery then? It seems to be working fine, holds a charge pretty well, hasnt failed me yet. I'm gonna try to borrow a friend's controller to see whats up with my 360.
 
For those that have the Quick Charge Kit: Is it better to have the batteries constantly charging (green light), or just plug it in and charge when you're nearing having to change batteries. I don't go through batteries that much since I don't play too often, but I get the feeling that the batteries sitting there holding charge all the time will have an adverse effect on their longevity.
 
I called to cancel live since I forgot about the auto-renew which kicked in a few days ago. The guy said if I wanted to cancel it, I risk losing my achievements and gamer score (I think he mentioned some thing else but I don't remember). Is this true or is it an empty threat used to scare you into letting them keep your money?

I told him I'd hold off and think about it.

Empty Threat. Silver members get achievements and gamerscores just like everyone else. I haven't been a gold member for a month or so, and I didn't lose anything

Now that is highly doubtful. In general, their subscriptions are notoriously hard to cancel and far too easily auto-renew. It's usually a good idea to buy cards and use them as opposed to inputting a credit card.
 
I used a CC to buy points years ago and used it to buy a 3 month Gold. Obviously I'm never doing that again. It's pretty sleazy of them to have this BS auto-renewal. Why would anyone want to have perpetual 1 month or 3 month plans?
 
Whoa, that was really sleazy of that rep. At any rate, Microsoft ought to realize that it is NOT a good thing that it's widely known you shouldn't give them your credit card number. I had no qualms about giving it to Nintendo or Sony (or Google, or Apple...) but I'd never give it to Microsoft after the 90 billion horror stories I've read...and that does not reflect well on them at all.
