I was hoping for a nip slip with Melina... she looked damn good tonight for once.

The Hornswoggle bullshit at the end left a sour taste (no pun intended) in my mouth.

So, Regal comes back next week? Does that mean the suspensions are up for everyone?

Did anyone else notice a sign that said something about Queen Sharmel, King Booker, Bobby Lashley, and MVP? I couldn't make out the rest of it...

Regal's back next week? Guess we'll see a torrent of surprise returns all around the next week or so.

Kiss that title belt goodbye, Punk. I'm willing to bet Johnny Nitro wins that silly-ass chase for the belt. After all, Burke's had enough shots, and nobody takes Dreamer or Thorne seriously.

I watched maybe 10 minutes of Raw last night. I think Hardcore Holly's a homo. I don't mean that in a bad, or demeaning way; but, the signs are all there. He's a complete bastard, likes to roughhouse with strapping young lads, he's old, pretty creepy (not frightening, but creepy), he's supposed to be a big tough manly man, but wears black and neon spandex tights that are reminiscent of either a stereotypical homosexual or a 1991 rollerblader.

I'm tellin' y'all: when Holly comes out of the closet, you're going to react with that same sort of stupefied "How could I have NOT noticed!?!?!?!?!" reaction that you had with Rob Halford.

Just found this clip of Cena and Orton during their OVW days:

It feels weird looking back and seeing them in reverse roles from what they're doing now (not to mention Orton foreshadowing Cena's Marine angle).

Also, their hair looks horrible :D

John Cena has that "did you do that on purpose?" haircut like Billy Gunn and Jimmy Rave. A 1997 college dickhead haircut.

Not a bad promo by Cena, but pretty fuckin' goofy still.

Oh, yeah.

He's always struck me as the type of REAL MAN that cruises the late-night truck stop / porn store circuit, sucking on whatever anonymous cock comes his way. Conversely, he'd rip the throat from a homosexual man for being a "fagit!!!!!!!"
http://www.theonion.com/content/node/33540

He's that guy.
Spot-on satire.

A friend of mine worked at a porn store near a truck stop, and his managers instructed him to turn a blind eye towards the 25 cent jerk-it booths.

Shop rats, truckers, "real" men, and any other type of guy who would beat up a homosexual for being a homosexual, would cram themselves in the half-closet-sized happy-time booths to suck each other off.

I like to imagine that they had to do a standing-69 in order to fit in those tiny mop closets -- a mop closet that could only hold a mop.

And hence the wrestling thread turns a new awkward turn.

I'm mulling over whether or not I should pre-order SvR 2008.
$50 shipped from Liongames will probably be the best option for a while.

The thing is, every year I tell myself that I'm gonna skip a year of Smackdown. But then something comes up that makes me go for it anyway. Like I was all ready to skip the first SvR, but then they took it online so I HAD to go for it. And last year I ended up getting a 360 unexpectedly, and then I got a gift card at work, so I figured "what the hell" and picked up '07.

Custom themes are damn tempting though. I do some wrestling for an indy promotion called PWR in Long Island, and it would be a hoot to recreate my wrestling comrades and I, complete with authentic theme music. Hopefully the CAW itself hasn't been handicapped! They have a nasty habit of doing that every year...

Firepro Returns, of course, is a no-brainer! I'm looking forward to playing a console FirePro for the first time (my only prior experience is in FirePro 2 for GBA). lol, one of my wrestling trainers was telling me how he created a very authentic version of himself, complete with taunts, on an imported FirePro for Dreamcast back in the day. :D

Wait for the reviews. '07 was the worst of the bunch.
Wait for the reviews. '07 was the worst of the bunch.
What bugged me about '07 was that I couldn't shake the feeling that I was just playing an upscaled PS2 game. Sounds like a shallow cliche, but it just didn't feel "next-gen." I was also disappointed in the online system. PS2 online was horrible overall, but at least they had "lobbies" where you could view a bunch of open matches (you had to "search" for a match type in '07 for 360... unless there was a way to just view open matches and I missed it).

And I didn't spend much time in the CAW, but it quickly became apparent that I couldn't do a lot of stuff that I could in the past games. And of course they take moves OUT, which is always a pain.

I did however like the combination of "instant" moves and "grapple" moves. And some ultimate control moves were nice, although they need a lot of refinement. The coolest thing was how you could catch someone jumping off the top rope, and it would go right into an ultimate control powerslam... that was badass!

What! Rob Halford's Gay. The man who brought us Turbo Lover. Breaking the law, and Hell Bent for Leather, is gay. Wow whose next, Buff Bagwell.

Buff Bagwell worked a show for some indie federation my friend works for.

They had to pick up Buff at his hotel room -- they as in, like, three guys. Buff answered the door completely nude... like, opened the door... all the way. Nude. Like it was nothing.

My friend also said that Buff snorted some cocaine off of a pool table at some shitbomb billiards hall that he was signing autographs.

Any word on if you can actually put designs on CAW and take tham online this year? Complete and total bullshit how they handled that last year.

Cyber Sunday ad or Y2J return tease?
yeah i was insanely confused when i saw that suggested to my buddy paul it could be the return of y2j, but alas i doubt we are that lucky, prolly just someone getting moved up or a cyber sunday teaser.

I hope it is Jericho's return. Then I'll have a reason to actually give a damn about wrestling again.

Jericho (my all time favorite) vs. Kennedy (my new favorite) would be a dream come true.

Sure, but he did also put a TNA logo on his website not long after he left WWE. He's not stupid, and sure knows how to work people.

Well, Jehrico's debut speech is more appropriate now than ever before.

He also mentions "saving the WWF", which could relate to the "save us 222".

Doubtful though.

An interesting article on why WWE development has failed.
If anyone is interested in getting the dirt rag it came from here is the e-mail address. [email protected] It's not bad with some house show and indy results.

WHY WWE DEVELOPMENTAL HAS FAILED
by Karl Stern of www.karlstern.com

WWE developmental has, in some shape or form, been in use for over a
decade now. The most predominate of the developmental groups belongs to
Danny Davis in Ohio Valley Wrestling. Yet in the last decade, WWE
developmental has failed to turn out more than a handful of major stars
and none of them have been mega-star level.

While many of WWE's current roster has, at some point in time, been to
developmental, just who in the main event ranks owes the majority of
their training to WWE development? You could argue John Cena though he
has never reached Rock or Steve Austin level of popularity. Still, we'll
count him as one. Brock Lesnar was a true product of WWE development
having been recruited out of the NCAA to come to pro wrestling. While
Lesnar was a main event star and headlined a Wrestlemania, the time he
spent in pro wrestling was a blip on the radar. Still, we will count him
as number two. Beyond that who in the main events owes their training to
WWE developmental?

Great Kahli, while no poster child for any development program, was a
long time wrestler in Mexico and Japan as Giant Singh and has been
wrestling for close to ten years. Triple H came from Killer Kowalski's
wrestling school, spent time on the independent scene then in WCW before
coming to WWE (then WWF) as a lower card act before politicking and
fighting his way up to the main events. All the major mega-star acts of
the last ten years owe their training to the old territorial system, not
developmental. Steve Austin and The Undertaker got their starts in the
Texas end of the USWA, Memphis, and early WCW. The Rock worked Memphis
(though it was, at times during his stay, a WWE developmental area) and
was a third generation wrestler who owes more to the training done by
his family than to WWE.

What developmental has churned out is a stream of also-rans and
mid-carders. The list reads like a where-are-they-now: Doug and Danny
Bashem, Rob Conway, Nick Dinsmore, Rene DuPree, and the list goes on and
on. Now this shouldn't be so much a knock on them, but instead on the
cookie-cutter WWE style and look.

What the territories gave us was variety. Not everyone looked like Hulk
Hogan or Superstar Graham. There were a lot of look-a-likes but there
were also different body types and styles. What is sad is that if things
had always been the WWE developmental way then people like Dusty Rhodes,
The Assassin, Tommy Rich, and even people like Ricky Steamboat
(style-wise) would never had made it to the main event levels. Everyone
does not, and should not, look the same or wrestle the same.

The biggest fatal flaw in the whole system, however, is the way it plays
out in the arena. All the development talent work against each other
instead of with the veterans. Yes, they have the veterans there to train
them but not in front of the crowd in an actual match. When Danny Davis
was coming up he went from territory to territory working against the
older stars. When Davis started out he was a lower card wrestler who
worked in Stampede and later Memphis. In fact, The Nightmares (Davis and
Ken Wayne) were a jobber level team called The Galaxians before they
became The Nightmares. When they arrived in Southeastern wrestling they
worked for years with older wrestlers before Davis broke out as a
singles star in the promotion.

Same thing goes for trainers like Dr. Tom Prichard and Steve Keirn. They
both spent years traveling through the territories before they became
top tier performers. At the Police department as a Sergeant I train the
newcomers. Why would I send a rookie to ride with another rookie and
then later tell them what they did wrong? Does it not make more sense to
ride with them and teach them as we go? Yet the WWE developmental system
does exactly that.

Perhaps the development system shouldn't just be for upcoming performers
but for outgoing ones as well. The ones who become stale. Instead of
curtly wishing them the best in their future endeavors at WWE.com why
not send them to OVW or Florida to perform on their shows against the
younger wrestlers? Why not have a stale performer like Kane or a veteran
like Dean Malenko as champion of the area with the up and comers chasing
them? Why not have Arn Anderson as an active manager and mouthpiece on
the shows while the person he is with learns from him?

Instead, year after year, we get more cookie cutter wrestlers with
cookie cutter gimmicks. And when they arrive in WWE no wonder they don't
stand out... because they don't.

I've landed a second row seat for the Misawa show in NYC. I'm sooooo sooooo happy that I've managed to get that ticket. It's going to be amazing. Myke have you been able to decide what you're going to do? It's only about a month and some change left till Misawa comes to the United States.

I don't understand the "222" significance. I was thinking 2/22, Feb. 22nd, maybe a debut date wrestling, his birthday, his debut in WWF, the 222nd day of the year (August 10th).. I can't find anything

A brief read that misplaces the root of the problem in the developmental territories, rather than the WWE front offices, their writers, their bookers, and their matchmakers.

Nick Dinsmore is nobody because WWE made him retarded. Rene Dupree is nobody because WWE made him so very, very "Fraunch." Rob Conway is nobody because WWE made him Billy Gunn.

None of the failed WWE developmentals were really given a chance to succeed. What separates the above guys from Londrick (aside from the fact that Londrick have jobs)? Beth Phoenix spent ages in OVW perfecting her craft; so did Batista, Cena, Orton, Santino Marella, Shelton Benjamin, Ken Kennedy, The Major Brothers, Deuce and Domino (and Cherry), Kenny Dykstra, Mark Henry, Boogeyman, Johnny Nitro, Elijah Burke, and The Miz.

Not all are amazing wrestlers, but to blame OVW for that is absurd. Some are very good wrestlers, and some just get by based on their looks. The WWE decides that, not OVW. Some get by despite being ready to wrestle at all. The WWE decides that, not OVW. Some get saddled with potentially career-crippling gimmicks, or worse yet, no gimmick at all, no promo time at all...just a three-word catch phrase and maybe a t-shirt. It's the WWE's self-fulfilling prophecy: give Mr McMahon/Triple H/John Cena a 20 minute goddamned interview segment, don't give any to London and Kendrick, and then praise McMahon/H/Cena for being so over with the crowd, while chastising Londrick for their inability to connect with fans.

OVW is not perfect; their biggest problem is that they're, in many ways, a good old southern-style group. Their show reminds me of mid-south to a degree. But, to blame OVW because Nick Dinsmore was made into a retard and was squashed in 3 minute matches on TV? Please.

WWE has harmed themselves by creating paperthin characters that simply don't connect with the fans, have little basis in reality, and aren't given 20 seconds of mic time to get themselves over (I don't think I've EVER heard Londrick talk in WWE). Why don't The Highlanders get a segment to put together a feud/match we WANT to see, instead of "hay guyz herez are cocknballsnass!"?

Really.

So, the characters stink, the matches stink (only squash matches should be shorter than 7 minutes), the booking stinks (why should I care about the tag team division when every single one of them lost to Triple H last week?...so what reason is there to watch overall?

Those opinions of the guy are fine (he's entitled to them), but they're absurd when considered at face value. It isn't OVW that's fucking things up; it's the WWE turning bad-ass shootfighter Boris Alexiev into happy lucky fan Santino Marella (they got lucky w/ Marella by turning him heel, but if they hadn't, you'd all still be screaming for him to be fired to this day).

If you think OVW has lousy wrestling, you've never watched it. It's not ROH, sure (btw Zen, 'smuch as I can't stand Jimmy Rave, that I quit match w/ Nigel was exciting as hell!); but it's not meant to be. It's meant to be TV wrestling (appreciate the distinction). If you think OVW gimmicks stink, you don't know who Michael Kruel is, or ODB, "Ripper" Paul Birchall, Shawn Spears, and so on and so on.

Eh, on second thought, fuck that guy's opinion. It's clear he's never even seen OVW.

Expect them to chant "shut the fuck up" in return. I've seen it happen again and again. The Benoit chants will live on in my memory forever.

Well, if you went to see the Stones play this year, you wouldn't expect a classic performance either way, but you'd still be in awe as they struggled through "Under My Thumb," y'know?

I saw a "grown man" (loosely) throw a temper tantrum that would give an infant pause at an ROH show. I think it was during the CM Punk/Samoa Joe 1-hour draw (show's called "World Title Classic," FWIW). He was sitting first row, right in front of us...fans were being fans (shouting dumb things to get themselves over with the crowd...for the record, evidently "DONKEY PUNCH HIM!" is a crowd pleaser). This cat in front of me (who wore big black Hot Topic jeans with all the chains n' shit on 'em...like the fruitbat goth shit mixed with 1998 Jnco raver pants, and had a "Misfits" shirt tucked into them - yes, I know I'm petty, but fuck it) stood up at some point and was almost in TEARS...

"WHY DON'T YOU fuckERS JUST GO HOME AND WATCH YOUR WWE!?!?!?!?!?!?"

I don't recall people's reaction to that, outside of a smattering of laughter and a brief pause before returning to...you guessed it "KICK HIM IN THE JUNK, DUDE!"

Oh I know man. From a wrestling viewpoint, I'm more excited by the prospect of a Bryan Danielson vs. Austin Aries match than something with Misawa, but for the pure larger than life spectacle of seeing Misawa live in the United States, it's going to be insane, especially since it's NYC. I know I'm leaving my voice in the Manhattan Center.

I'm praying they put on Misawa vs. Danielson but word is Misawa vs. KENTA is the match being held for NYC. It would be good, but it's not what the fans really want. I'd also love to see Misawa vs. Morishima happen but there is no way I could see that happen because they're both champions and there would be too much pride on the line between NOAH and ROH.

Wow. I've never seen that happen ever in a ROH show. I've seen things like Julius Smokes harassing some old lady in the crowd and she started throwing him the finger and we all started "Grandma's going to kill you" / "fuck Em' Up Grandma, fuck 'Em Up" chant . This is during the Joe/Homidie match on Battle of The Icons.

Another time during a Davey Richards/PAC match, fans starting chanting "Benoit! Benoit! Benoit!" at Richards which some people thought was distasteful. Never seen anyone break down in tears or ANYTHING close to that.

If they're bringing him in, give ROH talent the chance to work him. I'm sure KENTA has been on the business end of many Emerald Frosions already.

Watching BOTI on dat P-S-Triple right now. BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs.

Zen, I recall you mentioning being rather unimpressed with Whitmer. Did you ever see his barbed wire match w/ Necro Butcher?

I missed the entire CZW fued with ROH so I haven't seen his match with Necro Butcher. I understand that he was one of the main guys during the fued?

I went into my first ROH show blind, not knowing who anyone was back in 2005 at their first Manhattan show after catching a 3 way match between London, A.J Styles, and Low-Ki. Loved what I saw and went to the show. Stopped paying attention for a year and got back into it at BOTI this January and have been paying close attention since Morishima got into the mix.

Whitmer is a good worker and I'll never take that away from him. It's just that his entire character has been aimless after his fued with Jacobs ended. What's a good guy without a great villain to fued against, you know what I mean? And that's Whitmer's problem. Unless he is fueding against someone, his matches can feel severely generic. His stuff against Jacobs is great. It's after Supercard of Honor 2 that he falls off.

You know Whimer cut his hair and dyed it blond? I hear he looks like Corino. Albright dyed his hair red.

Gotcha. His work in 2006 is much better than his stuff in 2007. He and Dan Maff as tag team champions were very good, IIRC. Whatever became of Maff? I thought he was very good at what he did, and whatever issues he has w/ Homicide should be moot, given that Homicide is no longer in ROH.

I forgot to mention that a friend of mine grew up with and occasionally hangs out w/ BJ when he's in town. I showed him some ROH videos I had, and he was floored that I had videos of stuff he was on.

My first ROH show was 2004/5...I went because I wanted to see Styles and Daniels. Styles was, at the time, TNA champion, so I knew him very well. The first match I saw was Chris Sabin versus Homicide. Cop Killa FTW.

EDIT: It was August 9, 2003: Wrath of the Racket. I distinctly recall the merch table being covered with ROH shows and shoot interviews on VHS. Jay Lethal was there at the time as Hydro of Special K (the moment I saw "rich kid raver" gimmick I knew I'd love ROH).

Apparently Dan Maff messed with one of Homicide's kids or his family who was severely underage. Hence Maff got blackballed from the independent scene.

Thing is Homicide still has close ties to ROH. I personally saw him at the last Manhattan show going in to visit with his former co-workers. He lives only a half hour or so away from the Manhattan Center so it's no big deal for him to come to the show. I honestly expect him to be with ROH shortly since he's never going to get pushed as a main eventer in TNA.

That's cool you met with BJ. I'm assuming he is down to earth? He seems like the straight forward, down to earth type of person.

The show I went to was Manhattan Mayhem. Turns out it is now considered one of the best all around ROH shows of all time. The spike cop killa stomp Homicide / Low-Ki combo was the most amazing thing I'd seen in my life.
I never met BJ. I've seen him wrestle constantly from HWA around 2000 through to ROH, though.

That spot looks sick.
I thought you meant you showed BJ the videos you had. Now I understand you meant you showed your friend the videos.

Speaking of Whitmer... Look at this botch.

Cometh Thy Jericho.
Danielson and Aries will collide in a three match series this Fall. The first Danielson vs. Aries bout has already been signed for 10/5 in Boston. The second one will take place on 10/21 in San Francisco. The final one, if necessary, will occur on 11/2 in Philadelphia. The winner of the series will get a ROH World Title shot on 11/3 in Manhattan.

Looks like it will either be Aries/Morishima II or Dragon/Morishima III in NYC on November 3rd. I guess no Morishima vs. Misawa.

I've found a bunch of stuff regarding the 222:

- The phrase "SAVE_US.222" flashes several times and is the focus of the video

- Some of the frames show what looks like computer code containing the names of current and past WWE shows. It appears to be the "video paths" used by WWE's production software.

- Now, let the speculation begin. There is a "3-2-1" countdown that flashes quickly. One of the phrases that shows up a few times is "cd_volume4_1.act". On WWE's CD "WWE The Music: Volume 4", Track 1 is the theme music of .. Chris Jericho. With that in mind, the clip is somewhat similar to Chris Jericho's old entrance video.

- From The Bible: Joshua 2:2 verse 2: It was told the king of Jericho, saying, "Behold, men from the sons of Israel have come here tonight to search out the land."

CHAMP_HARD: Jericho was a former WWE Hardcore Champion

- SMACK_BROUGHT1: Jericho was on SmackDown and on his debut, he brought the "smack" to The Rock. Also, remember back when Jericho interviewed the #1 Draft Pick from SD!, John Cena. Jericho was also brought over from RAW to SmackDown.

- CD_VOLUME4_1: This might be the most significant clue, as Jericho's theme Break The Walls Down was the first track on the 4th WWE Music CD

- WM00_MATCH and WM_MATCH_TRI: Jericho wrestled Benoit and Angle in the Triple Threat Match at WM

- LIVEWIRE: A song by Jericho's band, Fozzy, also an old show, WWE Livewire

- TALENT_PRE: Obvious, Jericho was a former WWE talent

- BAT_***_WEEK: A reference to Jericho on VH1's Best Week Ever? Or a clue at Jericho's obvious humor side

- JVC_FIX: A former WWE sponsor

- PROMO_99: Jericho's WWE debut came in 1999 and he cut that infamous promo on The Rock

- 7_OCT: WWE's No Mercy PPV in October

- RAW_DOUBLE_FIN and RAW_REV: A possible reference to the match against Triple H on RAW which Jericho had won, or so we thought, only to see Triple H void the title change. Also, Jericho and Chyna both won the WWE IC Title on a double pin.

- KOR_Qualify13_60: Jericho qualified for the King of the Ring twice

- r/shara/catman/a_man/cat1: A Lionheart reference, maybe

- share/Insight/library/SGI_book... Possible reference to Jericho's book

- RAW_REV_MAY2.action: Jericho defeated Benoit for the WWE IC Title on May 2, 2000

- BIG_SHOW: This is the only name that means anything that is in the promo, so WWE could have thrown it in there just to confuse the fans. Also, with the above mentioned CHAMP_HARD, Jericho defeated Big Show for the Hardcore title in 2001.

- RAW_WAR_BUMPER: RAW is WAR was the catchphrase back when Y2J was around, and he often "bumped" the phrase around to say RAW is Jericho

- DISP_CHAMP: A possible reference to Jericho's reign as WWE Undisputed Champion

- giga/flame_5.0.7OCT/action: WWE No Mercy starts at 5:00PM on October 7th

- Also, according to his official website, his book signing tour starts on 10/25, and none of those dates are for Mondays. Also, I'm pretty sure WWE Cyber Sunday is the 222nd WWE PPV, though I could be wrong. I guess it would be possible that the SAVE_US.222 could countdown and change to SAVE_US.22J then end with SAVE_US.Y2J.

If you listen closely on the video, you will definitley hear a voice whisper "I'm Back" and it also sounds like there may be a "Lionheart" whisper in there as well. The video even counts down from 6 to 1, kind of like his old WWE Y2J debut promo did. If that isn't enough to add speculation to the fire, The Allstate Arena in Chicago. where WWE No Mercy will be held this year, is the same place that Jericho made his original debut with WWE.

The whole "Save Us" could trace back to when Jericho came to WWE originally, his whole schtick was that he was here to "Save the WWE" and in many of his old promos, he always refers to being a "saviour" and stuff. In another interesting note, WWE Cyber Sunday is being held in Washington, D.C. which is the last place Jericho wrestled a WWE PPV match.

There's also a slight reference to the Bible verse, Joshua 2, Verse 2 (Joshua 2:2) which is: "The king of Jericho was told, "Look! Some of the Israelites have come here tonight to spy out the land." 3 So the king of Jericho sent this message to Rahab: "Bring out the men who came to you and entered your house, because they have come to spy out the whole land." The Bible verse, Joshua 2, Verse 22 contains no Jericho reference: When they left, they went into the hills and stayed there three days, until the pursuers had searched all along the road and returned without finding them.

Now I realize that all of these clues and guesses are taking a long shot, and some of them may have been thrown in there by WWE just to fool with the fans. Whether it really does mean Jericho's return or not, Cyber Sunday or No Mercy, it is still a great new angle for WWE to come up with to get the fans excited again after the disappointing "Illegitimate Son" storyline.

I checked Joshua 2:2, verse 2, and it said BREAK THA WALLZ DEEEEEEYWN!!!
