Impact was a fairly enjoyable show - every match worked on some level, which is more than can be said for Impact usually. THE MCMGs WINNING made me very happy, and the women's match had some incredible action, but was bogged down by way too much happening outside the ring (damn that SUB-PLOT).

The opener was... weird, but enjoyable, and I enjoyed hearing Mike and Don act surprised that 3D felt they were lowering themselves by facing 'the guru' and a man dressed up a shark. Don mentioning that we've never seen Messias beaten up this badly came across horribly, as he just debuted a week ago, and as it's been stated, he's only been on TV for three weeks in full. Like Karen, I guess we're supposed to care about these characters as if we've seen them grow and develop over the course of years.

It's sad that the announcer's build up for Angle-Sting (the Olympic gold medalist returns to the place he won gold, while Sting returns to the place that made him a star) did more in about five seconds than weeks of TNA's own build has done to make me care about it. They could actually tell a very compelling story about the progress of both men's careers, what Atlanta means to them, what their match means to them, and instead, we're treated with a soap opera angle that has once again made the TNA World title seem completely meaningless.

Quotes -
DW - At Bound For Glory, Team 3D doesn’t even have a tag title shot, and that just BURNS THEM TO THEIR SOULS!
Tenay - Looking at the body language of Team 3D towards their opponents, Shark Boy and Sonjay Dutt, you have to wonder if they’re taking this seriously.
DW - Yeah, it’s almost like that aren’t taking it seriously, and are treating it as a joke
(on Shark Boy)Tenay - It‘s the INFAMOUS bite!.
(as Ray cusses like a sailor)Tenay - Don, do you think Sting is looking for revenge tonight?
(on Dutt)Tenay - I’m not sure there’s room for a well-adjusted individual in TNA!
DW - Sometimes, you gotta wonder about the common sense of that.
DW (after a 3D)- 1...(enthusiastic)2...(morose)3...(depressed)
Ray (holding chair to Shark Boy‘s throat)- Scott Steiner, this is for you!
Tenay - DIDYA HEAR THAT, HE SAID ‘SCOTT STEINER THIS IS FOR YOU!”
(to J.B.)Kip - SHUT YOUR MOUTH!
(on the fans)Kip - We are superstars, YOU. ARE. NOT!
DW - Next week, it’ll be the IMPACT DEBUT OF TEAM PACMAN, featuring the most CONTROVERSIAL ATHLETE IN SPORTS!
(on Rave)Tenay - This is Jimmy Rave’s second stint in TNA. He’s quite the world traveler - this year alone, he’s done three tours of Japan in the Dragon Gate promotion in Japan.
DW - RAVE GOT IT UP IN A SPLIT SECOND! …the shoulder…
(after a move in the ring)Hemme - OH, OW!
(during a Team 3D attack)DW - Devon’s got the table… WE’VE GOT TO GO TO COMMERCIAL!
(after commercial)DW - THE MASSACRE CONTINUES!
Tenay - UH OH, SHARK BOY, WHO CAME OUT TO HELP THE MOTOR CITY MACHINE GUNS…
DW - OH NO! THIS IS THE SHOT THAT TOOK SCOTT STEINER OUT!!
J.B. - I’m in the usual place in the Impact Zone where we conduct our interviews with Sting, but as you can see, he’s not here, so Don, Mike, I’ll keep you up to date.
Tenay - It’s TNA’s Super Bowl, World Series, Final Four all wrapped into one - IT’S BOUND FOR GLORY! We can’t wait to get to the ATL!
Tenay - There’s an INTERESTING SUB-PLOT IN THIS MATCH - every woman in it is accompanied by a male wrestler!
(Hemme misses a split leg drop off the top)DW - She goes for for the FFG!
Tenay - THE FFG!?
DW - Yes, it stands for the Flying Firecrotch Guillotine!
Tenay - …it didn’t connect.
(Harris knocks into Storm)Tenay - …did Storm’s beer spill?
DW - OH NO!
Tenay - I understand that Jim Mitchell and HIS SON JUDAS MESIAS are OUTSIDE THE IMPACT ZONE LOOKING FOR A FIGHT! (show goes to commercial)
Announcer (on BFG) - An Olympic hero returns to the city where he won the gold, the living legend returns to the place that made him an icon - Kurt Angle faces Sting in TNA’s biggest event of the year!
Your TNA Tag Champ Myke.
I already mentioned him, though, and understand if people are angry. If you're going to quit your job over one lousy (short term!) coworker, they better be shitting in your coffee cup.

I think a lot of talent is used to being given spots based on the work they do. They're not used to people being given a legacy push at their expense. Like Team 3D. The last match I saw of theirs was an utter cluster-fuck. Can they draw heat? Yes. Can they work? Hell no. Regardless of the names involved, there is a lot of fat TNA could cut off from the top.

Anyone who gets upset if they don't get the spot they're "used to" should go fuck themselves, IMO. You're not going to put Angle in, say, Eric Young's spot. But if Team 3D are asked to become like Scott Steiner (that weird "Kane"-like upper card jobber/go-to guy for the rub), they should be fine with it. If they're moved out of the title picture for MCMG, or whatever other tag teams exist in TNA, they should be fine with it.

Anyone who thinks they "deserve" a spot, outside of Shelly (the only one with a legit gripe) can just fuckin' walk. What do you have to say about LAX? We're arguing, but centering the discussion around Shelly (on which point I agree, to a degree). What about LAX? Did they get treated poorly in TNA? Not enough of a push? Jobbed out? What's your take on them?

Now, I'll agree with you about 3D. I don't care for their matches (but appreciate that they've moved on from tables spots and D-Von's boring cunnilingus headbutt), and they should, by now, be moved out of the tag title picture. But were I a booker, I'd use them. I'd use them before Sabin and Shelly. They are over, they're good with the crowd, and they are "legends." They're not getting any younger, too, so if you're gonna use them now is the time.

There's no problem with older talent (to a degree), but mix it up. 3D is lucky if they have 3-4 years left in the business. The Steiners should have been brought in to feud with 3D, and that's it. Send Rick home. Use other tag teams more.

The fact is if the company doesn't care about someone and they treat them as such, they'll never get over. If the WWE allowed London a mic week after week and decided he should get over without any limits, he could because I've seen his mic work. However when TNA/WWE cuts the legs out from under their talent, you can't fault the talent for not getting over. It's like calling Christian a bitch for complaining about not being given a push when his program with Cena wasn't followed through on and he was put on the backburner when moved to Smackdown.

I said as much at several point above. In Christian's case, the political maneuvering to undercut him was so blatant, though, that WWE couldn't have made it any more obvious had they shown 5 minute long "instant replays" of him getting the shaft, the way they like to bombard us with the bullet points of their paperthin storylines.

I'll give you Shelly, but any wrestler dissatisfied with their spot in TNA based off of where their spot was in another promotion can go to hell. TNA has a **TON** of things they need to fix about their show/wrestler hierarchy; but one of the first things they need to do is stop this political crap. Release those guys or job them out for a month. You push them now, you're gonna have a locker room full of 300lb guys throwing temper tantrums, thinking it will get them a push.

Job them out for 4-8 weeks or release them outright. Don't reward them for bitching. I, personally, don't care either way. With indies becoming higher profile, and the tech of the internet, we'll still be able to follow these guys no matter where they go.

I understand what you're saying. It's like when WCW put Billy Kidman in a program with Hulk Hogan because the IWC was pissed because they weren't pushing the younger talent and it never caught on because Kidman had never deserved to be put in a program with Hogan in the first place. Am I correct in this?

The more I think about it, and after a decent night's rest, the correct word I want to use is 'meaningful'. The wrestlers want to be used in a meaningful way. It's not completely about main eventing every show, but about being used in a meaningful way that realizes their potential. Is that a better way to think about this?

Like Aries didn't like the way he was being used in TNA compared to ROH, where he was in the middle of a huge three faction fued, and he took his ball and left. He feels he is better utilized and finds more meaning in being booked in a faction war than playing Austin Starr, co-starring alongside Alex Shelly and starring Kevin Nash and Bob Backlund. Others see what he did and see that he is happy in ROH.

Homicide could main event TNA. I believe that whole heartedly. Give him promo time with Christian and I guarantee he could get over huge. Shelly could too. Sabin has the potential to get over but he needs to drop his metrosexual demeanor and come up with something new.

Anyone who thinks they "deserve" a spot, outside of Shelly (the only one with a legit gripe) can just fuckin' walk. What do you have to say about LAX? I know they talked something about TNA but I can't remember what it was.

I know Joe wasn't able to make it to a show because of getting injured doing TNA and so at the next ROH show said something along the lines of, "I'm sorry I couldn't make it last week. On the way over here, I tripped over some bad booking." Was it something akin to that?

My belief is that Homicide and Hernandez believe the same thing everyone else does. Konnan was responsible for the push they got. They were just the muscle behind Konnan's words.

And look now. Konan departs and what happens? No more push for LAX. I don't know about Hernandez but from what I've read about Homicide, he just doesn't give a damn. Push him. Don't push him. He will say what he wants to if he believes he is right. That's what I think bothers him. He was never given the ball by TNA. They gave Konan the ball and they were supposed to follow Konan. But once their mouthpiece left, they weren't given a chance to shine afterwards in a meaningful role.

Meaningful is understandable. I'm a fuckin' righteous cook, but I don't expect to be a head chef if I were to go back and work in a kitchen. If you have me doing prep still, six months later, and don't let me work the line? fuck you, you don't know how to run a kitchen if you ain't using me right.

I can understand that.

Cable's set up, and ready to rock. Driven is on tonight from 10-12. It's $15, though, not $10. Bastards!

WWE 24/7, though, is $9 a month. Should I?

WWE 24/7 is a fucking waste of money, IMO. They rarely update anything, and there is really not that much good stuff per month, I had it for 4 months, and got rid of it.

Hope you enjoy Driven tonight. Sorry about the extra charge. I only paid 9.99$ but I guess your service provider wanted an extra $5. It's still worth it. Are you going to watch it at a friend's?

The only time I've tried 24/7 was the online service they had when I got it by using some secret code that gave me access for a month. I've never tried the cable version.

Zen, I think that's a good way of putting it - the part about being used in a "meaningful" way.

Now on that topic: what is your opinion of Vince Russo's booking in his WWF days? There's a lot that can be said about putting "entertainment" over wrestling, or "crash TV" or what have you, but one thing I've always appreciated about that era was that Russo seemed to find something for EVERYONE to do. You had two random jobbers become the New Age Outlaws, you had Mark Henry become "Sexual Chocolate" and take part in some genuinely memorable skits (the "Hand Incident" notwithstanding), Bob Holly in his most entertaining role ever as "The Big Shot," X-Pac and D-Lo brown in a highly-showcased feud over a tertiary title... and of course you have people like The Rock and Mick Foley growing into the main even scene during this time.

Now it's entirely possible that I'm attributing some things to Russo that he's not really responsible for. But he had a lot of input at the time, so it's fair to say he had a hand in getting so much mileage out of the talent pool.

24/7 has some kind of free promotion going on, but I still have no desire to order it. I've got too much wrestling to watch via DVDs, tapes, and the web as it is.

Here's Jumbo Tsuruta vs. Ricky Steamboat from 10/1/80.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7577R5OL

As for Russo, I think he's fine when he has folks that reign him in - in TNA, it seems like they (as in execs and other writers) a're all awestruck by him, so they just let his ideas fly through because they came from THE Vince Russo. Apparently, he doesn't have that much power, but it sure seems like he does given all the Russo-isms that crept up onto Impact again (like complicated storylines that made no sense, killing wrestling in favor of 'character development', and more POLE MATCHES).

I think Russo and McMahon worked well together. Right time, right place if you will. Sure there wasn't a lot of meaning back in the day, but it was definitely a whole lot of fun and a whole lot of money was to be made. It's like a rock band that is spectacular and after breaking up, each member tries to make a single album that never really works. That is Russo and McMahon.

Consider Russo and WCW. He added nothing to the product at all and quite frankly his two WCW tenures are quite comparable to the current TNA one. The fact is that Russo doesn't know how to build stars, and as of this point, he hasn't gotten a single person over. The only person who is debatable is Samoa Joe, but he was already hugely over due to his ROH work. Everyone else is a WWE cast off. Russo needs someone to work off of and he hasn't had that since his days in the WWF.

That's just my opinion on the matter.
Good show.

I thought reports were that Mesias wouldn't be on iMPACT!

*shrugs*

I really like Mesias.
The shows were taped 2 weeks ago. The injury he has happened after it.
Although it might be a little spoiler, but he's not in the show for the first 2 two-hour shows. For right now, it seems they've dropped the storyline until he heals up.

Zen, might want to put spoiler tags on those links or something. Because it's stretching out the page.

Seems WWE is advertising the New Hart Foundation for a Smackdown event on November 6th. No word yet on how many members will be brought up to WWE(current 5 members in the florida developmental territory).

I'm guessing it's due to WWE trying to get their tag team division back in shape.

They could start by not having Triple H beat the entire division in one match.

but what do i know?

bad tna show imo...from the beginning (really...did they have to have team 3d dominate this week??!) to the ending (sting beating up judas in the back looked too set-up...a door and whatnot right there - damn!)

tna, you better impress me with those 2 hours next week!

That was absolutely ridiculous, having him beat down what... 1/3 the remaining roster on Raw?

Did anyone else think that the way Vince won the cage match on Raw was an accident? Almost looked like Vince was trying not to fall down... maybe he was just trying not to fall so far or fast? Who can tell.

Yeah, that seemed weird. He hung onto the cage for at least minute before finally dropping.

I guess the match stunk overall, because the UK airing replaced it with a Triple H vs. The Hurricane match from 2003.

I agree. As a heel, he didn't really wrestle nearly as much as when he was The Hurricane. Although I miss TH, I wouldn't mind seeing him as a face again, either.

That would've worked. The only problem is that for it to get over he'd have to be a silly supervillain and then he'd be getting cheered anyways. Still, it would've kept "The Hurricane" fresh for a bit longer if that is in fact what led to him dropping the gimmick.

I still remember his time spent teaming with Kane, and the team chokeslam that they did. My goodness, did I ever mark out to that. Teaming with Rosey didn't seem all that good, since I never really saw Rosey wrestle that much in the first place.

Friday WO site news update - http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/wo/news/headlines/default.asp?aID=20850

Mistico suffered a brain contusion due to a bad fall in a match last night. He wants to wrestle tonight, and it's hoped that he won't for his own well-being. Puder did an interview stating that Angle will probably never do MMA, and that he was more banged up from wrestling than MMA.
.......................................................

Mistico wanting to come back so soon is horrible, and one example of something that needs to change in wrestling. Puder putting over wrestling now is kind of surprising since he got a pretty raw deal in it overall, but he's taken his experience in it and used it to better himself and his brand name in MMA. Kudos to him for doing that.
I still can't believe they didn't turn him into a supervillian. Imagine all of the hilarious promos they could have done.
C'mon, now. They gave him SUNGLASSES! AVIATOR SUNGLASSES! If that's not heel enough for you, I just don't know what is, man.

I wanted jobber henchman, over the top traps set for faces and him stealing the belt/holding it for ransom.

Fifth Year Festival: Dayton - Limited Time Download
Dayton, OH
2/23/07

Description Below Contains Spoilers Regarding Prior Shows!

Products__2237_14.jpg

1. Grudge Tag Team Action: Nigel McGuinness & Colt Cabana vs. Jimmy Jacobs & Brent Albright
2. Dragon Gate Open The Brave Gate Championship: Matt Sydal vs. Austin Aries
3. Six Man Mayhem Match: Roderick Strong vs. Shingo vs. Claudio Castagnoli vs. Mark Briscoe vs. Matt Cross vs. Pelle Primeau
4. Special Exibition: Samoa Joe vs. Davey Richards
5. ROH World Title Match: Takeshi Morishima vs. BJ Whitmer

The Six Man Mayhem Match is one of the better undercard matches of the entire year. I suggest everyone check it out for the beating Pelle Primeau takes and how his chest looks like jerky after the match. Craziness!

In addition, Samoa Joe vs. Davey Richards is a must see for the stiffest kick I've ever seen delivered to the head of another human being. I've seen it a hundred different times and it still makes me cringe because it looks like Joe could have genuinely killed Richards. The shot comes at 1:22:20 and if you do not say 'Holy Shit', you might as well quit watching Pro Wrestling.

The show is also notable for the first title defense of Takeshi Morishima, a title reign which has been going on for over 6 months now.

Cut out were...

1. Jimmy Rave vs. Sterling James Keenan
2. Lacey vs. Daizee Haze
3. Tank Toland vs. Mitch Franklin
4. Three Way Dance: Homicide vs. Christopher Daniels vs. Jay Briscoe

Whenever I upload these shows, I'm always going to try and get each show to around 2 hours, essentially the same length as the PPVs. It allows me to cut out matches that may seem to be filler and overall improve the flow of things.

Also, I don't think people will have patience to sit for 3 hours. The total show length is 2 hours and 01 minutes. Original length is 2 hours and 52 minutes. You need to download all three parts and unrar them to watch this.

Fifth Year Festival: Chicago coming this Wednesday.

I caught Smackdown for the first time in awhile, is Hardy cutting a lot of promos now? I think last time I watched it was ths beginning of his MVP feud and he cut a long one then too.

And anyone know what Shannon Moore's theme is? I think it'll make a good ringtone.

SD was okay. I liked Rey punking out JBL. Undertaker squashing Mark Henry was the best way to prevent more unfortunate PPV main events. Kane vs. MVP was pretty good (I didn't realize MVP was cleared to wrestle again).

I didn't order Driven yet. I'll probably watch it on Sunday.

Thanks for the Dayton show. I saw it live, and don't remember anything really standing out and impressing me except for how great the six-man was. I groaned when I saw Pelle Primeau's height and size, but by the end of that match, I was screaming for him to make the great comeback (or perhaps it was just "get the hell out of the ring!"). Also, I recall Davey Richards vs Joe impressing, but that may have been because my first impression of Richards was that he was a lousy wrestler and his kicks were really overrated (so, having low expectations made the match better).

Dayton is basically considered a secondary market and it's kind of hinted as such by Samoa Joe during his farewell speech. The next night in Chicago had a much more stacked card. Pelle basically got fed to the other 5 bigger guys and the crowd gave him a lot of love for it after the match.

I like Richards and I think he has a lot of potential. He can work the mic and when he's in the ring, he seriously lives the gimmick and breathes pro wrestling. I think he was fed to Joe in that match as a right of passage type thing, but in the coming years, I have a feeling he'll rise to the top tier of ROH.

I'll agree that it's a secondary market to a degree, but at least I got to see James Gibson win the world title from CM Punk last year (not to mention the first of three Punk/Joe world title matches).

We're thrown bones more often by them than WWE (e.g., Cyber Sunday, yech!).

Oh ROH always tries to be good to all its fans, but upon their entrance in the PPV arena, certain markets are going to start taking more of a backseat to others. For every Dayton and Detroit show, there is a Chicago show that will get a more stacked card. For every Long Island and Boston show, there are New York City and Philly shows that are getting Misawa. Edison, NJ seems to be somewhat high tier since it landed the 4th PPV (although the card doesn't look all that spectacular - I expect some crazy shit go down).

I did notice that they're running one less show in Dayton this year (3 as opposed to 4 - FYF, a show in June I missed, and one in November).

I don't mind, really, as it's been a very busy year for me anyway.

I think there wasn't an extra Dayton show this year because ROH is trying to start running shows towards the west coast now. They're holding a Las Vegas show next month and another a San Francisco show a few days after that.

Hey fellow ROH fans, just like last time out with Respect is Earned, I taped a podcast breaking down the events of ROH Driven. It's myself, Larry Csonka and THE WIFE~! talking for 80 minutes about this awesome, top notch PPV. Discussion includes: the return of Aries, the importance of clean finishes, the wonder Matt twins of Sydal and Cross, the cookie monster skit, why Philadelphia needs to have a full PPV taping and Danielson vs. McGuinness--just how great was this match (short answer: it was freaking great!).

Check it out here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/bwz51o
