The "HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" OTT
The more I think of it (since it's father's day,) the more I believe that Boy Named Sue by Johnny Cash is probably the best illustration of a perfect father/son relationship ever.
My daddy left home when I was three
And he didn't leave much to ma and me
Just this old guitar and an empty bottle of booze.
Now, I don't blame him cause he run and hid
But the meanest thing that he ever did
Was before he left, he went and named me "Sue."

Well, he must o' thought that is quite a joke
And it got a lot of laughs from a' lots of folk,
It seems I had to fight my whole life through.
Some gal would giggle and I'd get red
And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head,
I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named "Sue."

Well, I grew up quick and I grew up mean,
My fist got hard and my wits got keen,
I'd roam from town to town to hide my shame.
But I made a vow to the moon and stars
That I'd search the honky-tonks and bars
And kill that man who gave me that awful name.

Well, it was Gatlinburg in mid-July
And I just hit town and my throat was dry,
I thought I'd stop and have myself a brew.
At an old saloon on a street of mud,
There at a table, dealing stud,
Sat the dirty, mangy dog that named me "Sue."

Well, I knew that snake was my own sweet dad
From a worn-out picture that my mother'd had,
And I knew that scar on his cheek and his evil eye.
He was big and bent and gray and old,
And I looked at him and my blood ran cold
And I said: "My name is 'Sue!' How do you do!
Now your gonna die!!"

Well, I hit him hard right between the eyes
And he went down, but to my surprise,
He come up with a knife and cut off a piece of my ear.
But I busted a chair right across his teeth
And we crashed through the wall and into the street
Kicking and a' gouging in the mud and the blood and the beer.

I tell ya, I've fought tougher men
But I really can't remember when,
He kicked like a mule and he bit like a crocodile.
I heard him laugh and then I heard him cuss,
He went for his gun and I pulled mine first,
He stood there lookin' at me and I saw him smile.

And he said: "Son, this world is rough
And if a man's gonna make it, he's gotta be tough
And I knew I wouldn't be there to help ya along.
So I give ya that name and I said goodbye
I knew you'd have to get tough or die
And it's the name that helped to make you strong."

He said: "Now you just fought one hell of a fight
And I know you hate me, and you got the right
To kill me now, and I wouldn't blame you if you do.
But ya ought to thank me, before I die,
For the gravel in ya guts and the spit in ya eye
Cause I'm the son-of-a-bitch that named you "Sue.'"

I got all choked up and I threw down my gun
And I called him my pa, and he called me his son,
And I came away with a different point of view.
And I think about him, now and then,
Every time I try and every time I win,
And if I ever have a son, I think I'm gonna name him
Bill or George! Anything but Sue! I still hate that name!

Yeah, Cash was a regular Eminem as far as storytelling goes. ;)

Actually, Shel Silverstein penned Boy Named Sue, as I recall. Still, Cash's delivery of it makes it perfect.

I just made my 44th ignore, I think that ties me with Frisky.

Maybe I should clean out the list, but I don't even remember who really deserved it.
And your thrilling response?
He signed off before I could. This is actually the kid that hooked me up with those obscene woodshop deals (see one of my old threads). But he can be retarded sometimes.
No, you suck!
Is that an invitation?
I don't think your boyfriend would cotton to such talk.

I finally beat Katamari.

Hehehe, I rolled up a rainbow.

The credits were cool, I rolled up 142 countries.
The ott title would have been better if it was the "Soooouuuuuullllllllll" OTT
Why you frontin on Hacksaw Jim?

I still say a "Hoooooooooo Train" OTT would've been better. :D

 man, that was some funny stuff, back in the day

Yeah, but we all know the HOOOOOOOOO Train was just a parody of the SOOOOOOOOOUUUULLLL Train.

I prefer the original. It's more sublinely humorous. Also, with the Soul OTT we can break down and DANCE!

well, I didn't know where to go... so I though I would come here

who knows anything about graphic novels? never read one in my life... hell not even a comic book. But I heard they are hot shit and I read some good stuff about some of the batman ones. I am intrigued (sp?) I heard Frank Miller is the way to go. where do I start?

Batman: Year One. It's a GOOD take on Batman's first year. You'll see him make his rookie mistakes - mistakes that Robin would make.

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. The opposite end of the spectrum. You'll see a Batman in his 50s, disillusioned and bitter and has given up his War on Crime only to take it up again for a just cause.

IGN put together a top 25 list in their comics section as far as the Batman graphic novels.

I really want to read The Dark Knight returns. I have never read any of them either, but the History Channel did a special about them, and Frank Miller's novels were a large focus (he does TDKR and Batman: year one, which were 1 and 2 on the list)

They can be just as good or as bad as regular comics. Usually they're more independent minded than the monthly mags.

Look, everyone will say things like "Sin City" and "Sandman" and "Concrete" and Love and Rockets and all that jazz.

If you want me to recommend a writer in particular, I would go with Grant Morrison. It was Morrison's version of "Arkham Asylum" that got the actor to consider play Batman in the new movie. He said he thought Batman was kiddie stuff until he read that. But if you want to see something more surreal, I would recommend Grant Morrisons run on the Doom Patrol. It is fairly underappreciated but it's truly something unique. These graphic novels are a collection of his run in the print series. It's one of those series that probably most people have never heard of, but it's one of the great comic runs ever.

Doom Patrol COllection 1

The Painting that Ate Paris: Doom Patrol Collection 2

Arkham Asylum
It's really underappreciated stuff. I didn't even know they had these in GN's now. I'll have to buy them. But read the reviews on Amazon.

Damn you, damn you to hell! Five words and that damn song is in my head. :bomb: Needs to listen to some Black Eyed Peas, who are the real masters of getting songs stuck in my head. I need to pick up their new album and they're old one. I'm proficiently lacking in albums from African Americans, which I have maybe 1.5 albums by black artists.

Shouldn't you be working on your papers, young lady, rather than harassing this poor old man? Tsk, tsk.
