The "How long will it take to complete this game?" thread

Arc the Lad: Twilight of Spirits - 40 hours. I messed around with some side quests
Beyond Good and Evil - about 10 hours
Champions of Norrath - about 17-20 hours playing on co-op. when I played by myself I remember I finished it alot quicker
Culdcept - about 25 hours
Devil May Cry - I beat this the same night I rented it. It took about 3-5 hours
PsiOps - took about 12-15 hours
Final Fantasy X - Put about 60 hours into this. Did alot of side quests and tried to get their ultimate weapons
God of War - about 8 1/2 hours according to the game clock

Resident Evil REmake - took me about 14 hours to complete Chris's side
Resident Evil 4 - took me about 26 hours
Tales of Symphonia - took me a little over 40 hours

Kotor - took me about 45 hours to complete with almost all the side quests
Kotor II - took me about 30 hours to complete
Ninja Gaiden - took me nearly 30 hours to complete
Brothers in Arms - about 8 hours
Republic Commando - about 10 hours

It only took me 45 hours total (or so) to complete KOTOR with most of the sidequests and items done. I think I only missed 1 or 2 of the sidequests that you have to talk to your characters to get such as Jahani's, I think.

It took me 90-95 hours to beat Final Fantasy X, all the extra bosses, and get all the Ultimate Weapons. It would have taken longer if I'd gotten the so-called "Ultimate Armors" as described on some Walkthroughs, nor did I beat many of the "ultimate monsters" like Nemesis in the Monster Ranch. I had no need of the armors though by the end as no regular enemy could touch my characters. I also did not level up every character completely on the sphere grid. I imagine that could take another 30-40 hours to do that, which I saw no real benefit to do.

EDIT: buncha stuff that didn't make sense in the middle.
how about burnout 3 100%?
Well that really depends on your driving/crashing skills and a bit of luck. You could probably do the world tour in less than 20 hours if you don't have to repeat races, which is unlikely. Getting 100% can take a lot of patience, especially getting those last few for the trophies (2 Tram, 2 Bus takedowns, Signature takedowns, 40 takedowns in a Road Rage, etc).

Overall I'd say I've spent well over 100 hours on the game, but that includes a lot of online play as well.

Phantom Dust (Xbox) takes about 12 hours to complete the single player scenario mode, but it will take much longer for you to collect all the skills you'll want to play online.

Vagrant Story takes 25 hours to beat and 10 more hours for new game+ and side quests.

Chrono Cross takes 40 hours.

I haven't played those games in years though so times might not be exact.

Front Mission 4

Ok, this is kinda wierd and I'm still trying to figure it out. When I first played this game it took almost exactly 80 hours for me to beat. I recently decided to play through it again and I finished it in a little over 30 hours (wtf???). I think I must have spent most of the first playthrough on customizing my mechs since my second playthrough I used prebuilt models (for the challenge).

Update on Amplitude too. I finally beat the final track on insane. I still haven't unlocked the last 2 bonus tracks but I'm close. That means it takes roughly 1 month to beat completely. I wouldn't have spent so much time and frustration on this game if it wasn't so much fun.

How did I miss this thread, I was considering posting this exact question.

Anyway: Growlanser II: 12-15 hours clocked, most sidequests, a few resets to get 'Mission Complete'. A little longer if you want to beat the Arena.

Did the same thing...just posted asking about these games:

LoTR: TT
Resident Evil 0
Pikmin
MoH: Frontline
Culdcept
The Getaway
Jak II
Rogue Ops
Vagrant Story

Took me (can't remember exactly..should be good guestimates):

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy - 14-20 for 100%
Wario World - 10 hours at most for 100%
Onimusha: Warlords - 10-15 hours
True Crime: Streets of L.A. - 15 hours (max) to do it all
Dead to Rights - 8-10 hours
Quest 64 - 8-12 hours
I-Ninja - Bout 17 hours for 100%

All I can remember right now...

Dark Cloud 2 can be a huge time sink. I'm sure you could probably just plow through it pretty quickly (20-25 hrs) but I spent just over 100 hours on the game. Seriously. There are so many different things you can get caught up in. Taking pictures, using those pics for inventions, finding the ingredients for said inventions, getting all the villagers to join you, meeting all the requirements when building the towns, fishing, fish racing, earning gold medals on every stage, customizing your weapons and, oh yeah, golfing.

I didn't even touch the fish racing and only got about 85-90% of the gold medals. I did spend an inordinate amount of time building the ultimate weapon(s) though. Also, be sure to stay tuned after the credits roll, there's an entire extra chapter to the game afterwards.

I looked over the front page but didn't really see what I needed; maybe someone can help with the following. I'm short on time and need to get through the games quickly ...

Disgaea
FFX-2
Shadow Hearts
Shadow Hearts 2
Fable
GTA:SA

Sorry if I passed over it in the thread. I didn't want to wade through so many posts. Thanks.

On the very first page:

Disgaea - 60/180+
Shadow Hearts - 25 / 35
Shadow Hearts: Covenant - 45-50 / 65-70

As for Fable I'd say no more than 12 hours. 8-10 maybe even less depending on how you play it.

For San Andreas I averaged about 1 hour for every % of completion. So, 100% was nearly 100 hours. If you're just looking to beat it though I'd guess 20-30 hours.

time splitters: future perfect = 9 hours on normal
project snowblind = 8 hrs on normal (maybe a little less)
brothers in arms = 10 hours

all are for xbox :)

thank goodness for the cheapdeals on this website b/c if i paid full price for any of these games, i would expect at least 20+ hours each hehe.

GTA:SA I also averaged about one hour per % completion. However, I'd guess you'd still take around 35 hours to complete even without trying too many side missions, etc.

I wasted a ton of time trying to date that damn chick in Los Venturas, though.. I think I had the bug where she stops showing up. :(

Can anyone give me even an estimate of how long a full dynasty/franchise would take in Madden and/or NCAA? I'm thinking at least a few hundred hours at least.

Me and 2 friends all took 45 hours to beat kotor II. Mine would have been shorter if i had not tried to go back to the planets to see what else could be done(if anything). Anyways, that's 3 opinions on the long time to complete just about everything.

Parasite Eve: seems around 12 hrs, but it's been a few years, and that was playing through once. I think there is a New Game+ or something, but I didn't try that.

Somewhere in the realm of 10-15 seems correct (been several years for me as well).

And the Game + is merely the EXACT same game except you get to start w/ the beasty weapons you had at the end of the game...no point if I remember correctly.

Come on CAG's...post some more times for games...we should be able to compile a HUGE list. I'm always wanting to know approximately how long a game is before I play it so I can cut down on backlog as much as possible...

Finally completed ODDWORLD: STRANGER'S WRATH for XBOX last night. I'd say it took me about 17 hours or so, since I liked exploring/talking to peopole. You can add that to the list if you like...

Finished Onimusha 2 tonight. Took around 6 hours on Normal. I didn't do the two spirit realm places. I'm sure you could easily put 10 to 12 hours in the game to unlock everything etc.
Anyone know how long XIII is?
Not long. I can't remember exactly, but under 10.

I like the thread, nach. Nice job. :)

I'm calling BS on some of these, that are frankly impossible to be either A) enjoyed as they should be or B) at least the second time through.

Jade Empire for example, why would you buy a game that is story based then clearly not read any of it so that you could fly through it in 14 hours? Anyone who has played this game for more than an hour knows this is impossible unless you read ZERO dialog and just picked the first branching paths of each of the dialog trees. Which, as you know, has a HUGE impact on your XP and alignment, not to mention styles, weapons, and companions.

Kingdom Hearts & Fable are also great examples of inaccurate times. Do we want this list to be right or do you want it to be the fastest times? Completing most things in KH and fighting Seph will take you to 40 hours easy. Cleary some of these times are for notches on a belt not for enjoyment. I can beat Resident Evil 4 on normal, (first run), in under 6 hours but that's skipping every scene and running past every enemy I could. Its just not the same game when played that way. ( I wasn't even speed running it, I was just doing it for shits and giggles, cause damn that's a great game.)

I didn't think the goal of this thread was to "whip it out and measure". I thought it was to provide real-world data. Hell, if that's the case I have a save game, (hopefully) from Zelda II which has everything, zero deaths and a time stamp of under 4 hours.

To me, this is wine and beer. I'd rather enjoy wine over time, than get a quick buzz from a Bud. But hey, that's me, maybe some people love flying through a game, skipping every bit of dialog, every cut scene, and every side quest. It just seems off to me, but what works for me doesn't always work for everyone else.

Could it be possible that people play games at different speeds? The time I posted for Jade Empire was correct, I was also level 22 when I beat it so I did not run past all of the enemies etc. I didn't skip any dialogue but I did not wait for them to speak it, I just read it. Also, who are you to say how we should enjoy a game? If someone likes going through a game fast and that's how they get off, then they still enjoyed the experience.

Agreed. :applause: Enjoy it however you enjoy things most. I like to take my time, but not everyone does.

I doubt you read all the dialog in JE when you couldn't even read my post...

"Also, who are you to say how we should enjoy a game?"

Clearly, the very last sentence of my post was either skipped or ignored.

"It just seems off to me, but what works for me doesn't always work for everyone else."

It would be nice if we could gather more data so that the OP could list a high, low, and avg time for each game since people of course play games at different speeds. Hopefully as this thread grows that will be possible. We just need more people to start listing their times (accurately, no bragging needed as was mentioned).

i listed the KH time. And like it mentions i just ran through it. I beat the game within 3 days. I didnt do all the sidequest or anything. I just hated the game and decided to just finish it, I didnt care for any "notches on a belt " like you mentioned. And that is just the low part of the spectrum. I'm sure some people like you need as many notches as possible for certain games. Thats why the OP labels with and withut sidequest. If you really want to help this thread you should list your times instead of critcizing everyone elses.

How about La Pucelle: just over 40 hours for me. I didn't do much side questing, but I had Prier and Croix's levels in the 70s.

" I'm sure some people like you need as many notches as possible for certain games."

What is that based on? You just asked me why I didn't post my times, yet you then attack me, assuming they are "notches"? How do you know when you have ZERO facts? How do you come to that conclusion when I just made a case against that very thing?

Nevermind, forget I mentioned it. I'm sorry that this got out of hand and has started to ruin this awesome thread. The fact that I was critiqued by a guy who wasted hours of his life on a game he "hated", shows why it took me a year to register and why I post so rarely.

Have fun whipping it out and measuring.

Love,
John Holmes

Read the first page of the thread again. We're keeping track of both types of play-throughs. That's what the / is for:

hours to blast through game / hours to complete every damn side quest

And the time for Fable is not BS. I completed all the side quests and maxed out my stats on damn near everything save for a few of the "good guy spells." Really, the game's not all that long.

BTW guys, back on topic. I just finished God of War in God Mode last night. Time was 9:26:36. That was maxing out health, magic, and all weapons & spells. Also acquired all the Treasures so I'd say that's everything unlocked. Might want to add an hour or 2 on to the play time though as I don't think it counted the numerous restarts after having my ass handed to me. The 2nd mode of the final battle was a helluva thing to get through. If you've finished the game you know what I'm talking about, it was hard enough on the normal difficulty.

So you wrote a very long post bitching about how everyone plays their games and then negate it with the last sentence? Why even bother to post?

Rygar for PS2:

Game clock was probably around 6:15 (6:00 even before the last two bosses). But I had to play several of the bosses multiple times (die and reload) so total time was probably around 8 hours. I didn't get 100% - you have to play through the game several times (on various difficulty levels no less) to get everything.
