The "Is This Game Rare?" Thread

Im still on the fence on selling my sealed non PC pikmin on ebay...but i think ill wait and see if its worth more in the future. and since ar tonelico 2 is most likely not coming to america, would a sealed Ar Tonelico be worth more now or later, iyo?

haha i recently picked up a sealed ar tonelico + artbooke at gamecrazy. too bad it was 49.99 + taxors :(

The only difference is that very occasionally they will fix a bug or two in the PC games, I'm pretty sure they did that with Metroid Prime, but other than that there is no generally noticeable difference.
Will the price of pikmin go up since pikmin 2 went up?

I bought a PC complete one for 15 bucks and was wondering if i should sell it now or wait.
I just sold one I had this week for $35. You'd make a profit now if you sold it...but what happens with it in the future? Who knows.

i really think pikmin 2 will only go up in value, it isnt like they are going to print more.

it will go down if, god forbid, they wiimake it.

I agree that long term it will probably go up in value.

Short term. Once they announce and release Pikmin 3 (please, please Nintendo) the game will go up in value for sure. Whenever sequels are released everyone rushes to play the old ones. This will be no exception.
Disc only copy of Trap Gunner for PS1. Is it rare?
Not really. You can buy it for about $10 on half or amazon right now.

Also, is there anything different about PC GC games other than the yellow thing on the box art. The manual and disc look the same to me.
All PC and GH PS2 games are identical to their original releases -- only a diff label on the cover. Older PS1 GH games swapped color disc art for plain black and white logos, and sometimes added an ad to the back of the disc holder where previously there had been game art.

Some people really get hung up about PC/GH vs original, and some even get upset about GameQuest reprints -- in the end it is all the same.

Found it at FYE almost a year ago and never played it.
That's pretty rare. I would bet you could put it up on Ebay and bring in $60 or $70 at least, maybe even more depending on who is looking at the time. If you let it sit up at $99 with a best offer I wouldn't doubt you could sell it for that or get a good best offer.

How much does a sealed GH Symphony of the Night go for, there's two on Ebay now and one sold for $105 and the other sold for $30 so I'm not sure what to make of the huge gap. I picked one up for $21 recently and was wondering if it's a good deal.

In reply to the Player's Choice / Greatest Hits / Platinum Hits discussion, while most are simply a marked down price and a slight change to cover art, the PC version of Metroid Prime (Cube) added in a voice over to the intro and fixed a glitch that let you get a certain item early, and the GH version of Silent Hill 2 (PS2) added in the extra endings and side story from the Xbox version.

Sweet.
I'll be hanging on to it though.
Gotta build my collection some how, selling games won't help.
Or selling one game for a few other games...

Edit: Only spent $5 on it too. w00t!

it depends on the buyer. ive seen them sold for $60+. last year i saw a few that was buy it now around that price range. it really depends on the interest of the buyer since its greatest hits. but i would save it just in case.

Heh... that's pretty weird. Complete GH copies average about $30 and sealed copies aren't that much higher.

people should consider GH titles. specially those games that have extra content on them. like Silent Hill 2 GH, it had extra content which was featured on the Xbox version. Devil May Cry 1 also had extra content. i believe thats what they (sony) intended for them to have. so that you'll buy it again. i know i did for silent hill 2. i have a sealed gh copy of that game.

I believe DMC1 didn't have extra content, that was DMC3 (but I won't swear to it). I do know that there were regional diffs in difficulty level from JP to NA for the original release of DMC1.

Bonus content in the GH titles has been up to the individual publishers (like Capcom and Konami), and has been more the exception rather than the rule. In the past gen, it often resulted from the diff release schedules between country as well as platforms, and the discovery that customers actually would rebuy a title if it had new content. So if a title got tweaked for a Region 3 release, the release sold well, and there seemed to be NA demand with a GH release, why not take advantage of it.

It puts out a lot of SKUs, like for Call of Duty 2 (standard, SE, GHSE), but more SKUs means broader distribution, higher quantities in the various sales channels.
i have a hardly ever played copy of bangai O for dreamcast * in a jewel case * is this worth anything?
It sells for about $35-40. If you have the box and instructions it would go for more too. This might increase in value too because the Bangai Nintendo DS game is coming out. New releases of older games can sometimes raise the value of the old ones.

Wondering how much a few games in my collection are worth and how rare they are:
capcom vs snk 2: mark of the millenium complete
crash team racing complete
kirby canvas curse complete
okami complete
ICO no manual

Complete copy of Document of Metal Gear Solid for PS2?
Complete copy of Suikoden for PS1?
Complete copy of Legend of Legaia for PS1?
Complete, non-GH copy of Vagrant Story, sealed, for PS1?

How about KH2 Black Label Sealed.

Suikoden complete goes for 45+
Vagrant Story probably around 150+
Legend of Legaia around 25+
I saw Metal Gear Solid Document for 300+

This Vagrant Story quote is way off. The game sells for about $25-30. You can buy a brand new one on Half.com for $50 right now.

Crash Team Racing - around $9-10 complete ($6 without)

Okami - around $25-30
ICO - around $25 too

What about cart only copies of General Chaos and Theme Park for Genesis? A local shop has them for $5 and $2-3 respectively.

I just checked the DigitPress online rarity guide and they come up as the following:

General Chaos-4
Theme Park-5

I also had a disc and back case art only PS1 version of Theme Park, which I paid all of .69 cents for, but I gave it to a friends sister for her and her kids to play on their BC 40gb PS3.

Oh and I'm glad to see that that price for Vagrant Story was WAYYYY off, because I'd be super pissed at myself for getting rid of a copy I paid $10 for at a local shop to a fellow CAG for $25-30 about six months ago.

It looks like only sealed copies of Document fetch that much, but wow, I didn't realize how uncommon/rare it was.

General Chaos - $12 or so
Theme Park - $30-40

It looks like buying them at the game shop could be a good deal for you.

um 50$ with that shitty feedback its probably broken and so on.

100+ Vagrant Story most likely but not 50.

I see sealed ones go on ebay for a lot.

And no im not way off.

You're talking about the Genesis versions, right? And taking into account that they are both cart only as well?

If so, then DAMN, I knew GC was sought after, but $12 cart only. I guess that $5 pricetag is a steal, like I thought.

Yep. The Genesis versions.

I went back to that local game shop today to dump off all but my RPG guides(and those for games I have) and scored another $15 or so for 60 guides. Now, I can officially say that I'm DONE with grabbing tons of these things.

Oh and I did mention that I thought Theme Park was worth more than $2 to them, so they pulled it. I mentioned the same deal with General Chaos, which I've wanted again for a while, but I think I'm done with most of the older gen stuff. But when I left there, it was still in the case for $5.

Why did I alert them to it? Because I'm trying to win over the owner, who thinks I 'know alot about my games and guides and is afraid of how knowledgeable I am'. I have no patience to deal with flipping them myself and I figured I wanted to give them something back for them taking all of my guides for fine games like 50 Cent: Bulletproof and 25 To Life. I checked all of the guides months ago and none aside from the RPG ones were worth over .50-1.00 each.

Which sites do you use to get the average that comes up on your site, JJ? If it's a combination of those eternally present BIN/store auctions on Ebay, the gouged prices I routinely see on Amazon from individual sellers and the horribly gouged prices I see on Half.com, then it's no wonder those two games came up so high.

I can't count all of the auctions I've seen which included the word 'RARE' for games and guides in recent memory.

IAmTheCheapestGamer, You can see more details about where our prices come from on the methodology section of the site. But basically we visit ebay, half, and amazon every day to check on prices. The ebay prices are only based upon actual completed auctions, not listing prices. It is what the prices has been bid up to. The half and amazon prices are the listing prices on the site (we are working to make it actual sales too). The price we actually show on our site to users is a combination of the three sites using a pricing method we developed with an Economist. It isn't just the straight average of the three sites. I hope that answers your questions.

Yes it does, thank you. I was going to say that if it were just info taken from the buy it nows that the Ebay stores have up, then that game's average would've been higher I think.

Sad part is, I had both the Genesis and PS1 versions at one point and sold/traded each and both were COMPLETE/MINT.

Not sure about rarities on them , but as far as quality goes , the first three I'd say are good (not sure about project eden). In the case of Onimusha and DOA , if you have access to the xbox versions , they are better but the PS2 versions are still good.

i sold a sealed rebirth special edition last year for $125 on ebay and $135? at half.com. they were selling at those prices before the 3rd GU came out then the price of it went down to about $70-$80. now its back up maybe because of the the 2nd game being out of print, which fetches a good amount used of $40-50, sealed around $60+.

speaking of out of print, Twilight Princess for the gamecube is now out of print :) the big N had stopped production of it. copies of it is still found everywhere but not a whole lot.
How about RE3 for Gamecube, has been opened but never played. Rare?
not anymore since they reprinted the game. it is still worth some good points over at goozex and could probably be traded for around $20 to gamestop (i think they still sell them $39.99 used).
