The "Is This Game Rare?" Thread

I've got one.
How about the Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence Limited edition. Still Sealed.
Also Metal Gear Saga Vol. 1 that came with the game. Still Sealed.

Oh yeah, the MGS3 Subsistence LE plastic packaging has a small opening on the front because it's signed by Hideo Kojima on the cardboard. Is this rare.. and how much would it be worth?

there

the recent Game Informer article helped boost sales for those games that was mentioned. so now if NCAA Basketball 2k3 shows up at your GS, im sure an employee had already snatched it. ITZ RAREZ YO!

i sold a signed Metal Gear Solid for Ps1 last christmas for $425 (that was the best offer, i had it up for $500). i went to uniqlo here in nyc and met mr. kojima there :applause:. memorable experience. some people got a little greedy and sold theirs for less than the game. i waited 8 months. well, i listed it around october-november 08 cause i knew it'll sit for awhile. you also need to sell this at the right time.. right now the interest has slowed down dramatically.
I'd imagine you could get quite a bit. I sold my complete copy of .Hack Vol 1 for $15 shipped so I can't really help you get a good estimate for a sealed copy plus guide, but given how this usually works I wouldn't be surprised if you could get $200+ for the lot.

Now for my question: Steel Batallion. Is it increasing in rarity/value, or is the current going rate inflated due to the time of year(from my experience there seems to be certain months that are better for buying, and some that are better for selling)? Here's the story... I scored a copy of both games(both factory sealed), the strategy guide, and the controller(also new, the only thing missing was the box) for $90 shipped on march of last year. I got to play it for about a half hour, and since I didn't really have any room in my place to store it I ended up selling it not much later for like $130 shipped. Now that I have a place to keep it, I wanna pick another copy up again but it's going for like $150+ on ebay! Should I try waiting or do you think that it's only going to get higher from here on out?
There's about 3 GS stores bout 100 miles from me with the SB bundle in stock now, though I will say that I'm a little short to grab it now AND the gas prices are going up here again(up nearly 20 cents in a week).

So, I guess unless my closest GS tells me they can special order it for me, I'm SOL.

I just wanna PLAY the game and have it in my collection as an oddity, much like The Guy Game.
Anyone know if the Final Fantasy VII with the misprint on the back is worth anything extra?

Some information on the game is here if people don't know about it:
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91999&page=2
Not really. I've seen it go for about the same and trade list requests on other forums seem to rate it at equal value to the regular.

Some anomalies in value may exist, but I haven't seen anything outrageous different.

It's not $400 rare, as GI states, however. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they ripped off the prices from vgpc. :whistle2:#

NCAA 2K3 has been rare, and much like the effect of the tourney in March, it probably wasn't boosted a lot by the article, especially because GI isn't a price guide.

Ok. Need some help pricing.

There was a complete one sold on Ebay for $44 (can't find it now). It was a buy it now though so I can't tell if it was priced to low and sold really really quickly. Thoughts?

This one I can't find on Ebay or Amazon. I got a bunch of 3DO games and I looked at Digitpress.com. Every one I have they list at $10 so Im guessing it isn't very reliable. I found prices on all but these 2.

Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes for the 3DO

DSCF0023.jpg

BC Racers for the 3dO. None on ebay and 4 on Amazon but listed for $70+. Not sure I believe that. Any thoughts?

Thanks.
From the 3DO rarity guide

3DO Sherlock Holmes CIB $20

3DO B.C. Racers L $6 CIB $15 I think yours will be around the middle since you dont have the long box

hope this helps
Thank you. I always forget about that site. Also, didn't the 3DO games stop coming in those long boxes at a certain point and were just shipped in the smaller jewel cases? Reason I am asking is because the Sherlock Holmes game doesn't even have a place for a Jewel Case.

I cleaned out 10 S.F. Bay Area Gamestops of their NCAA Basketball 2K3 in early 2003. Sold each one for $95 to $120 during March Madness.

I know why it's rare but its funny that a sports title is worth sooooo much. Sports titles finally get their dues.

The only games I have sealed are not worth anything... R&C1 (black label, beat an ex-girlfriend's copy back when it came out), Disgaea 2 (haven't finished Makai yet) and Castlevania Double Pack (burnt out). Although I do have a sealed Tales of Vesperia Premium, I wonder when the best time to sell it will be.

I sold my FF XI Vana'Diel 2008 collection for 50 (After getting it for 20), now it goes for 100+.#-o

Yeah, seriously i'm not understanding the pricing system for the rare games feature in GI. They are way extreme. I think they took the highest price from a ebay auction for a sealed copy of the game.

Update: i just finished reading the article and found out they were talking about sealed copies.
To clarify, I actually didn't hold on to my NCAA 2K3s until this year. I flipped them almost immediately during the 2003 March Madness. It was the only college basketball game available on the system.
Oh, and to clarify further, this only applied to the Gamecube.

What version is that for FF XI? I'm surprised it goes for so much.

As for rarity, only ToV Premium is worth much on your list. I'd hold onto it since it'll probably gain more value down the road. It's only worth about $30 more than retail at the moment.
Actually, it's the Gamecube version of the game rather than the PS2 version. Something about it having a really low print run and the game being pulled from store shelves (I think).
Sega cancelled production of all 2K sports games on the Cube in the middle of its production. Some had already been shipped to stores. All others were destroyed.
R&C1 sealed is worth around $140. ive seen 1 auction at least that ended at that price. im not sure how much its going for recently. the castlevania double pack.... GQD has a few thousand copies (i think 4000) of them on ebay for a jacked up price of $42, but they're not going for that much.

the best time to sell previous games of the series is when a sequel or something related to it is coming out. right now tov premium might net you around $100+.
How much you all think this is worth in new sealed and used condition?
it would be hard to find someone that would pay $100 for something like this. maybe if you market it towards disney memorabilia collectors it would sell for more. if youre listing it, make sure you link back to that page and explain why it's so rare.

How much more of Fatal Frame III did GQD print? I just scored a sealed one for $16 at a Second Spin B&M store in Denver.

I also scored a 2nd Tales of Vesperia Premium at GC (I had one sealed, I wanted this one to open and request the soundtrack. I may reseal it just so the case doesnt get all messed up (I have a regular retail one to play)

I have seen a few auctions recently and it hasn't gone for that much. there's a BIN for $120 with a best offer option that's been up there for a while. I saw one auction for $50 a while ago and two more recently; one for $20, and another for $7. It just seems like no one is looking for it.

Are there really not that many rare/valuable original xbox games excluding obvious ones (Steel Battallion, Fatal Frames, etc)?

I was trying to do a little research on some but really haven't found much (and I am mostly talking about opened/loose ones more so than sealed)

Yeah there really isn't much at all.

Jurassic Park Operation Genesis
Futurama
The 2 in 1 double packs are hard to find. (Sonic MonkeyBall)
Street Fighter Anniversary Collection

Even then you aren't talking much more than $30 on any of them though.

well fuck that sucks. oh yeah and MVC 2 of course but that may take a little hit in value. My local GS still has it but I am holding out for a 35% discount plus 10% with edge to get it.

kind of funny that the GC seems like it has more valuable games than the xbox.

if you wanna buy the original xbox version of MVC 2 wait until gamestop starts clearing out all the original xbox games and see how low it goes. Get it fast though because once they're gone, they're gone.

yeah that copy of MVC 2 has been there forever I just want it cheap to have it. If someone else gets it more power to them I will be happy with the copy off of XBL

Did Namco do another Vesperia Reprint? My local Gamecrazies got flooded with tons of new copies, when before they usually had one or two on hand. I saw on amazon they lowered the price as well. I havent checked in awhile so I am probably slowpoke.

For the better, more people can play it. I still need to grab TOS2.

Naah, new copies of some XBox games (Like Conker) still fetch a good price. The original Fatal Frame fetched $100+ recently.

I wonder how much I could get for my original XBox collection. 230ish games including Marvel vs. Capcom, Fatal Frame, 2 copies of Fatal Frame 2 (one is still sealed), Guy Game (Sealed), Barbie's Horse Adventures (Which is rare but isn't holding much value), Drive for life (rare to find, not worth anything), all of the extra Outlaw Golf games (Red Hot, 9 more holes, etcetcetc), Doom 3 LE (still sealed), Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, Jedi Academy, Jedi Outcast, Futurama, Silent Scope (With rifle still in the box) .. all 230+ games are complete with cases and manuals.

It'd probably be better just to keep it all.

I got a few titles that I believe to be rare (for NIB condition and age), but I am not sure what these could go for or even where to sell it (ebay I guess, but anywhere else for vintage titles?). Where would one advertise ?

Civilization I (NIB - Floppy Disk set) 5 1/4 or 3 1/2 (Can't remember which disk size). DOS version.

2 AD&D Gold box games on floppies (NIB) DOS version

all of those are originals and not reissues, etc... DOS gaming at its finest :D. I can't even count the hours I spent playing those games (on the Amiga)

I have the games in storage and didn't feel like digging them out unless I see they are worth digging out (hence the lack of detail right now). Lost my job 3 months ago so I am considering to let them go to help get some new stuff (Sacred 2, Wolvie, etc).

Any ideas ?

Thanks !
Im confused. Is Tetris DS rare or not? I got one today for $36 & after checking completed auctions, it seems to be going for fairly cheap.
All the bootlegs on the secondary markets have lowered the price of legit copies.

once gamestop clears itself with original xbox games, expect some not-so rare games to be sought after.

what josef said.. make sure you didnt buy a bootleg. ebay is flooded with these and it affected its value.

I have a basically MINT copy of Re-Volt which was only given out to first couple wave of beta testers for live(I was in the 1st wave) also have the orange memory card/carrying thing with it as well :). Always curious what that was worth since it was never launched as a full game as expected, they just canned it after the port.

I'm seeing a lot of you discussing original Xbox games. Expect a lot of games to climb in price after GS clears out all of their stock. There's going to be a lot of "new" rare games coming out into the open in the next year or two. Anyone with a collection of Xbox stuff would be best off just waiting another year or two to sell it.

I still don't see a lot of Xbox games going for as much as their PS2 or Gamecube counter part, the same way many genesis games aren't that sort after.

Probably because the Xbox never had a established fanbase... the PS2 had PS1 users and the GC had Nintendo fans. If there are no fans to want the games, there's no demand for the games.

Personally, I think most of the games are so cheap because you can still waltz into a GS and find pretty much whatever you are looking for (aside from the games that we all know to be rare). Once people lose that luxury and are forced to the alternatives (eBay) they'll wind up paying higher prices than the games are currently at (maybe only 10% more or less, but prices will still rise on the whole, I think). Then again, 62t is right, most Sega Genesis games are still pretty worthless (that goes for most Sega systems, minus the Saturn, even though they've got great games).

My copy isnt a bootleg, but Im wondering if I should keep it or return it. It costed me $38.xx, & i am wondering if I should return it & put it towards something better or keep it & hope it goes back up.

I'll return it then. $38.xx seems to be a bit much, & I know I'll find one for cheaper at a pawn or the flea market one day. And besides, the store Im returning it to just got in a PS2 Network Adapter ;)
