The "Messiah CompleX PWNS Countdown and WWH" Comic Discussion Thread

anyone on the east coast heading for the Baltimore Con? Ill be there for the 2 day event to see if i can see the likes of Adam Hughes or Jim Lee. that will be a treat.

just picked up Iron and the Maiden..........This is pretty good. Can't wait for number 2 to come out.
Issue #2 of Iron and the Maiden comes out tomorrow. It was pretty good. Too bad it's only gong to be four issues long.
aww thats beat! oh well ill enjoy it while it lasts.

Well, this was the first week of me not working at the comic shop... went into a much closer shop (detroit comics) and got my new copy of Y the last man. Only 3 issues from finishing that series at my old job. (sniffle).

At least Metal Men is fun. Other book I picked up was Faker...this series is weird. Good, but weird.

ok so Batlimore Comic Con was a blast. I got mad comics real cheap....got the B cover for Iron and the maiden for a buck. Got the Variants for Gen 13 each half off....Sketch by campbell was only 8 bucks..what a steal. picked up a whole shit load to read and catch my self up on....Im excited to read the new thunderbolts. I heard it was really bad ass with Venom and bulls eye part of the team....and Penance looks like the shit.

Got a sketch done of Witchblade by Michael Broussard who draws for Top Cow and did Marvel Union. Ken Rockafort was there and he did a killer jam sketch for my cousin of madame mirage and witchblade. Ill post pics up soon when i can....Jim Lee made his appearance there and was huge. My cousin got Wildcats #1(the modern age sketch cover) signed by him. David Finch, Mike Mignola, Alan Sudyham, and Randy Green were a couple of the other big names that did sketches and signed for the public. Also got to play free donkey kong thanks to the promo of King of Kong. last thing im going to push for is if anyone is going to a another con on the east coast..and sees an Artist by the name of Ryan Stegman....Get a sketch or a drawing from him. He is really good. My best friend got him to do a sketch of Daffy Duck and Superman standing side by side. Ill post a pic of that also if Stegman allows me to. anyway that was Baltimore in a nut shell.

Can I just say "HOLY fuckING SHIT!" at the ending to that last issue of Y? That was so insane and sad. Can't wait to see where Vaughn takes this in the last issues.

I'd love to see the pics of the sketches you got. Did you get one from Finch?

If Yorick is alive at the end, I'll be surprised.

I picked up Captain America: The Chosen. I really done know about it. Too early to judge from the first issue. I want to talk more but I am afraid of spoiling it for others and I don't know how to do that spoiler button some of you guys use.

Im going to take pics once i get a new Digi Cam....my LCD broke :(. Ill see my cousin tomorrow to take a picture using his cam. i really like rockafort after seeing his sketch he did of Witchblade. i forgot to mention that Broussard and Rockafort switched up their usual sketches and sketched each others characters on the jam cover. Once i post a pic..rockafort did the gaunlet with crazy detail. ill get on posting it tomorrow.

I wanted to get Finch to sketch for me...but the line was so huge behind me..i had to settle for an autograph of a print he made. He said he would sketch but there was just too many people to attend to.

Thor #3 is just great! Thor is without a doubt the ultimate powerhouse in the Marvel Universe. I would like to see Thor deal with Captain America's death.

Green Lantern was also the great. Right now, Green Lantern is the best title coming out of DC (along with All Star Superman, Grant Morrison's Batman).

anything geoff johns does is the best thing from DC. his stuff is golden. JSA and Green Lantern all the way, for sure.

i want to start reading Superman regularly. I'm thinking ACTION COMICS when the new creative team starts up.

any suggestions?

I might get a bit of work at my cousins comic shop after the Holidays. I wonder how long I'll be attached to this industry.

That being said, Booster Gold was frickin awesome

Okay, I finally was able to read the GA/BC Wedding Special. It was seriously awesome...Except the end...
That better fucking have been a clone or a plant or something....If they seriously just killed Ollie off AGAIN after having brought him back rather recently. That's seriously messed up. And I was really hoping it'd somehow work out for Ollie and Dinah. Though it definitely made GA/BC the series leap up my list on stuff I'm really anticipating...

Since Cable & Deadpool (my favorite Marvel comic) is being cancelled we decided to do an interview with Fabian Nicieza, who to me is Cable and Deadpool, since he did co-create the two. If you have questions for this fantastic writer, who's written comics out the wazzu in the last 20 years just follow this link and feel free to ask him whatever you like:

No word on who's sporting the new threads:

I stopped buying comics, it got too expensive and I barely had time to read and keep up but I still try to stay up to dates on these things.

Are they going to do a standalone Deadpool comic? Please tell me they are.. My heart sank when I read the news in Comic Nation.

Gah!! I have my comics shipped down to DC every week. Of course, the week Green Arrow/Black Canary 1 comes out, UPS messes up and they weren't shipped. Now I might have to wait till either tomorrow or Monday and I really really want to read GA/BC1.

Well he's holding a gun so it's not Steve Rodgers. If it's not Steve Rogers it's not Captain America. And besides that costume is, to quote Brian Posian, "Gaytarded"

Maybe it's the commie smasher Cap from the 50's...

It's probably Bucky. I really don't like the gun. I don't mind him carrying it actually, just seems forced in those pics.

Ah well, Captain America has been fantastic under Brubaker, so I'm sure I'll like where this goes.

dave gibbons said in wizard this month "Captain America has the best costume in Marvel."
i've always agreed. that costume looks silly. metallic? really? if thats bucky, the winter soldier suit looks 10 times better than that. of all the heroes in the marvel U caps suit is the one constant. why change it now? he looks like a poor mans cap 2099.
i dont mind the gun, but do you need it when you can punch holes through peoples heads? oh well....

Strider is right though,"In Ed(Brubaker) I Trust".

I've always found it odd that it so few superheroes reflect a real creative effort in costume design that really, truly breaks the mold --while remaining essentially "superhero"-- when two of Marvel's biggest, Cap and Spidey, have such striking, nonconformist outfits. The iconic lines and materials on their costumes are instantly recognizable as theirs alone (Venom and US Agent be damned). I'd just like to see more work than a new chest emblem slapped onto a generic tights, gloves, and boots number.

Why are you thinking about leaving comics? It's odd, because I've been thinking about dropping comics as well. It seems like every month I'm picking up less and less books.

Both GL Corps 17 and TotSC Superman Prime were great reads. I really feel for the heroes of earth. Cable & Deadpool was solid like always. My surprise came from X-men. Usually that title hasn't done anything for me. Hell since Morrison's run it has steadily gone down hill. After reading this issue, I again am excited about the return of a crossover. I was highly disappointed in Fookiller 1.

caps costume is non conformist???

you do know it was created in the forties right? its an american flag for goodness sakes.

oh yeah, i'd say the material of spideys and venoms suit are very different. anyone else agree?LOL

new books this week? i never remember what comes out week to week, i just buy whatever is in my holds box, plus what looks good on the shelves.

They arn't free for me to read anymore ( i fucking HATE reading downloaded comics. Not ethics, just not fun to read that way), the huge story lines make it hard to follow (yet again, its not free for me to read every green lantern tie in book) and frankly %90 of the people in the hobby piss me off.
and frankly %90 of the people in the hobby piss me off.
My God I think you hit the nail on the fucking head when you stated this. This is the reason why most people stay clear of the comic book genre. Of course the reason they might piss you off might be different than mine. To be fair though I think that about 60% of gamers piss me off.

most people stay clear of comics because they just dont get it. just like i dont get CSI tv shows or soap operas or survivor or pop music or 10,000 other things.

i dont pay for cable or sattelite tv. i spend it on comics(which are basically tv shows to me) and gas and xbox live once in a while.

in my experience comics people are ok. its the ones who dont shutup i cant stand. but thats everywhere, not just comics.

for the record i have the world longest muted list. if you arent on my friends list chances are i cant hear you.

with that being said...

Comics are something I think you are born into. My dad bought me comics because he loved to read himself. I am hooked. I would have a hard time giving up reading comic books. The biggest problem is that comics are not generating new readers. New readers to comics usually head straight to manga. Comic movies don't really turn into viewers into comic readers. The one thing I hate about comics is the price seems to be going up and up. Because of this, I have cut down dramatically on the number of titles I read. I also hate fill-in issues.

yeah i agree. my brother got me going. i read the killing joke when i was 12. after that g.i. joe just didnt cut it y'know?

a long time went by i didnt read comics. the Xman craze in the mid nineties totally turned me off. image went poof. it was a bad time as a reader.

what got me back into it was the dropping of the comics code. that set the stage for everything in comics(the mainstream big publisher stuff, anyway). from that you get that sick X-force stuff to wonder woman snappin' whats-his-name's neck. plus the art is better than its ever been. and the big 2 are far more willing to take chances with there bigger characters, chances that have reprecussions years later(like spidey unmasking and the civil war, 52 and so on. unlike supes dying which seemed to last the weekend or bats broken back or all those xmen crossovers) oh no im ramblin' DONT MUTE ME!

Yay for Messiah Complex coming out!!!! I can't wait till that comes Friday. I can't wait for a big ol' X-cross over. Especially with Sinister involved!!

Hold on bro...I agree to an extent here. But repercussions for years. How long did Hawkeye, Vision, Psylocke, Donna Troy, and Magneto stay dead? Granted Cap is still dead, but at the same time they've brought back Winter Soldier and Jason Todd( I still want my damn 75 cents back). Spidey unmasking himself is obviously not going to last that long. Thanks to One More Delay. If anything 52 un-did what Infinite Crisis was set to do and now Final Crisis is going to do again.

To be fair though, it's always been like this in comics no matter how long you have been reading. Nothing really last that long or at least it last till the next creative team takes over the book. I mean Wolverine didn't stick around as an Ogre, Superman is no longer two electric entities, and ohh wait....Northstar is still gay, I think that one actually stuck. So yeah some revelations from the 90s are still around.

as far as quitting comics because you hate fanboys? that's a bit much, ain't it? i'll agree that fanboys can be pretty annoying, elitist, what have you.. but i read comics because i like 'em, not because of the other people that do also. if anything, the high cost of monthly books now should be turning a lot of people away from comics.. but you're reading/getting them for free anyway, haha. weird.

and i'm psyched about messiah complex too. i hate the whole crossover ordeal, but i'm psyched that there's actual meaningful shit happening in the x-universe finally. definitely copping this.

my pull list was huge a few years back compared to what it is now, and i ended up dumping a lot of dc titles because it was getting costly (and also because i'm primarily into marvel). i've heard a shitload of good things about lantern.. anyone else recommend any dc for a marvel head? i know i'm dropping some marvel shit real soon..

You're using the term nonconformist in a different way than I did. I meant that Cap's outfit doesn't conform to the standard superhero costume template, not that it represents an iconoclastic, counterculture attitude/ideal. I suppose one could argue that after the events that transpired during Civil War, but that's not my point anyway. :)
a symbol on the chest wings on the head and only three colors. that is not counter culture.
Unless you have some weird sense of humor, I think you're entirely misunderstanding my posts...as well as glossing over the intricacies of superhero visual design. :???:

Well, Sinestro Corps is definitely beyond awesome. I didn't read any Green Lantern stuff beforehand so I can't say for sure.

Parallax is fucking sweet.

I bought pure DC this week. I got Batman, Robin Annual, Action, Countdown, and Justice Society of America. Really looking forward to this resurrection of Ra's al Ghul. Action Comics had Superman and the Legion of Superheroes and was great!

I've had to really cut down on comics, the only Marvel titles I buy now are Captain America, Thor, and Iron Fist.

Marvel's gone down the shitter. I was a Marvel fanboy all my life until the past year or so. I think Civil War is what made me realize it. I haven't even touched World War Hulk.

Thor is, however, kickass.
