The NFL 2012-13 Season Thread - Super Bowl XLVII is the Harbaugh Bowl!

If Modell gets in, he will be the Ron Santos of his class: Should have gone in years ago and won't be able to enjoy his enshrinement. A damn shame.
Your stat also came with a caveat of ignoring the fact that they lost the most recent game where he didn't turn it over, so they can lose those games.
The caveat was because Flacco only played 2 series before being rested. Safe to say Tyrod Taylor isn't likely to get any snaps in this game. If Flacco, played most of the game it would have counted, but you know as well as I do that Week 17 resting only really matters if you're facing the same team the next week.

Unless that Flacco stat is lacking context, I only see 12 straight wins for the Ravens when he's not turned it over, as he lost to the Patriots 13 games ago 23-20 despite 2 TDs, 0 INTs, and no fumbles. Maybe that factoid doesn't count fumbles or Yahoo's gamelogs are wrong somewhere?

Here's the list of games before Week 17 of this year where he's had zero turnovers:

2012
16 Dec 23 NYG W 33-14
12 Nov 25 @ SDG W 16-13
9 Nov 4 @ CLE W 25-15
6 Oct 14 DAL W 31-29
1 Sep 10 CIN W 44-13

2011
Divisional HOU W 20-13
17 Jan 1 @ CIN W 24-16
12 Nov 24 SFO W 16-6
1 Sep 11 PIT W 35-7

2010
15 Dec 19 NOR W 30-24
14 Dec 13 @ HOU W 34-28

It's amazing how different the Hall of Fame situations are for the NFL and MLB right now. The NFL is backlogged with great players waiting to get it while the MLB can't pull the trigger on letting any of their great players in because of conspiracy crap spoiling the whole bunch for their voters.
All those names are fine except Michael Strahan. Please, for the love of god, that guy's ego doesn't need another boosting.

Sorry Ray Guy, it's never going to goddamn happen at this rate. You tried, Chris Kluwe.

My picks:

BAL 13 - DEN 27
HOU 20 - NE 30
SEA 23 - ATL 17
SF 21 - GB 27

What I would like to see happen:

BAL 13 - DEN 30 (Let's get Ray Lewis's career over with already)
HOU 30 - NE 13 (So sick of Belicock)
SEA 17 - ATL 24 (Don't really care about either team but would like to see Tony G win a playoff game and have a chance at a Superbowl before his career is over)
SF 421 -G
B -3 (I'm a Bears fan so what can I say? ;) Also like Coach Harbaugh).

You mean the guy who took away Clevelands franchise and went broke in the process? Hes totally comparable to Santo.
I'll pick Ravens every time as I'm a fan. I also hate Peyton Manning with a fucking passion.
I pick the Giants every time for the same reason. Not sure why you hate Manning though - he is awesome.
I'm torn, because one of the quarterbacks is:

0-3 in the playoffs when the temperature is under 40 degrees.
1-3 after a 1st round bye.
4-7 in his 1st game of the playoffs.

And the other is Joe Flacco.
You forgot about him being the best QB of all time with a historically great offense and a running game to lean on for the first time in 7 years.

Maybe he just can't stand looking at his Frankenstein head .

Well that's a fair point. :D

I have irrational hatred for players too but I can appreciate the greats. I hate Handsome Tawmmy Brady but he is damn good and fun to watch (especially when he is getting pressured all game hahaha).

How does one hate Peyton Manning with a passion? I have no problem with Brady either. You can be envious of his life but I can't bother to hate any player. I'm not one of those people that sanctifies players either, none of us have even met them. They could be total ass holes.

The best game of the weekend should be SF-Green Bay. Those teams are the closest to each other on paper, while the stats tell us that Denver, New England and Seattle should all be pretty good bets to win. They don't play the games on paper of course.

Edit: Just to clarify what "stats" I'm talking about, I usually find Football Outsiders' DVOA rankings to be a very good metric of how "good" a team is relative to the rest of the league. That tells us that Seattle, Denver and New England are all fantastic teams; Green Bay and San Francisco are very good; and the other three are good but not great. That gels with what my eyes tell me as well having watched all these teams.

The only player I "hate" is Bernard Pollard, but that's completely rational. :D

I think both Manning's are great quarterbacks but I can't help but thinking they might have an extra chromosome (trisomy 21).

He has a knack for injuring New England players, Took Brady, Welker, and Gronkowski out. Its just baffeling how one player can take out a teams top 3 players to serious injuries. I feel your pain, I'm a Patriots fan too.
I love DVOA... and most advanced football/baseball stats - nerd alert!
DVOA also says Baltimore's biggest advantage in this game is Special Teams... So we can already see it's not perfect. :D

By the way, nobody does the "throw a pop-up and pray for a flag" better than Flacco. He's like the Johnny Unitas of that.

This Denver/Raven game is not looking to good for Baltimore. Broncos ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown, now Baltimore recieved kick off near their goal line, they cant afford to get too far behind in Denver.

Thing of note, when a team is running a kick off back for a touch down, and only Defense left is the kicker, who ALWAYS look like the slowest uncoordinated athlete ever when running to try to make the saving tackle.

Edit: Well spoke too soon, Flaco throws a bomb to Torie Smith for TD.
This is going to be a fun game to watch.
I was gonna say. Only the 1st quarter, and this game is already more entertaining than all 4 last week.

Lmao @ Broncos secondary getting torched on almost every long bomb.

EDIT: lol typical Ravens, didnt even take 1 quarter before they went back to garbage play calls and making Denver seem better than they really are. Literally getting burned by Noshow moron.

I hate 3 players in the NFL: Peyton Manning, Eli Manning and Jay Cutler

Peyton Manning: I respect his talent but I hate him because of his attitude. Everything is always someone's fault. On it's own, that wouldn't be that bad but the key was in 2005 when he called out his offensive line after a loss in the playoffs. Now he was right in that his line was crap but you don't take that shit out of the locker room.

Eli Manning: I've hated him ever since the draft. His "I'm taking my ball and going home." attitude when he was drafted by the Chargers just pissed me off. People can say Elway did the same, don't care. DOn't like Elway either. I believe it's a slap in the face to the league when you are just like fuck it I don't want to play. It's his choice to do so, but I felt it showed a lack of class.

Jay Cutler: Grew up in the same area with him and he was a spoiled fucking child back then. Felt the entire world revolved around him. He acts the same way now that he did back in high school. Dude needs to grow the fuck up and act like a man and not a spoiled child.

Dear CBS,

Please shut up and stop running ads every break reminding me you are "America's Number One Network." Especially since I don't give two craps about just about every show you have. Thank you.

Really? Moreno is pouring gasoline on them and lighting them on fire? I didn't see that.

That last connection between flacco and smith was top notch. This is a hell of a game.
You mean the guy who took away Clevelands franchise and went broke in the process? You really think Jacksonville was the first choice for an expansion team?

Hell, how is what Modell did any different from Al Davis moving the Raiders every couple of years? You'd think Modell is the only owner who ever moved a sports team.

Oh yea, and the Cleveland Browns STILL EXIST. The Baltimore Colts, last I checked, DO NOT.

I don't know about the details of the Al Davis LA/Oakland thing, but Modell's company took over operational control of Cleveland Municipal Stadium and he ran it like a slumlord. Withholding revenue from the Indians caused them to jump ship for a brand new stadium and he stubbornly thought losing 81 baseball games would have no effect on their financials, which was an extremely bad move. He lost a lot of money, tried to get the taxpayers to pay for repairs to the stadium, and he eventually tried to move the team despite signing a 25-year lease that ended in 1998. The city sued him for trying to break the lease and they eventually settled on the deal that gave the city all of the rights to the team with the stipulation that the franchise would be deactivated for three years until the new stadium was ready, which was used as a basis for a ton of sports teams to threaten moving if they didn't get new stadiums (Chicago, Denver, and others).

Modell was great for the league, but he was a shitty owner of the Cleveland Browns when he ran the team and their stadium like an egomaniac.
Tied game.after Manning fumble. Man I hope Ravens pull it off.
Me too...

On another note is there anywhere to stream this game? I know it's on CBS but you can't stream from their website.

Ravens just could not get a stop on defense and their special teams, by far their best and most consistent section, came up lame.
add eu. instead

EDIT: and of course here comes the shitty calls
Got it, thanks! Had to download an app and most likely open myself up to a bunch of spyware but all that matters is it works.

2nd half epitomizes Ravens ineptness. Oh gee Champ Bailey getting burned on almost every play involving him while covering Smith?, lets go away from that in the 2nd half! great logic . If Denver even attempts to play as mediocre as they did tonight, they'll get curb stomped by Brady if he gets by Houston.

Do Ravens realize this is OT? fucking stupid ass run plays for 2 yards after you just demoralized their secondary in regulation. -face palm=

Run, run, pass. I smell some play action coming.
Is it just me or has Dierdorf been wrong on every single review today?
Except for that last one, that's my thinking.
