The Office - Season 4 - Discussion [possible spoilers]

"If I'm not in my bathtub with a glass of red wine in one hour, you're dead."

Dwight is definitely so money:

Dwight at the club was brilliant. First he solved the club ratio problem then prevented himself from being poisoned. Dinkin Flicka. Fleece it out.

Could be a swerve. If you read the episode description
his replacement is too accomplished an actor to really be around for longer than a few episodes. Unless Toby's spinoff bound.

The other two upcoming episode titles look like great ones coming up. "Did I Stutter?" and "Job Fair". In the episode description for Job Fair
Michael is hiring from Pam's old college apparently, so new characters for S5?

Also, spoiler for the final episode:

Ausiello on tvguide.com reported that two people get engaged in the finale, although didn't specify which two.

My guess? Dwight and Angela. Pam turns down Jim.

Everyone thinks Pam turns Jim down if he proposes but on Officetally.com, the webmaster was there for the finale filming and took tons of set photos. In the photos of Pam/Jenna she is covering her ring finger and holding her hands in weird positions for a few pictures. Could be trying to throw us off though. If I had to guess if someone else was getting engaged, it would be Michael and Jan. He proposed to Carol out of no where so his loneliness might lead to taking Jan back

The more I think about it, the more I realize the dinner party episode is the best this season--perhaps of them all.

Ugh--I watched it again trying to find something to like about it, and it was even worse the second time through.

Last episode, however, brought the funny.
"I'd also like to see her topless."

Creed is 3 for 3.
Definitely one of the best parts, if not the best, of the episode.

I didn't quite get Ryan's little bitchfest with Jim. That seemed out of nowhere since they always hint that Jim is a good salesman.

Seems like Jim/everyone in the office already had been punished enough for that, with being stuck there and whatnot.

Besides, Jim had a valid point about the whole thing, which was that it was nothing more than trying to make Ryan look good. Ryan just seemed like he was out to throw his weight around like a petty little bitch.

Which reminds me - this was the first episode that Toby actually sort of annoyed me. He's usually one of those sympathetic characters, but he came off as kind of a jerk. Eh.

Remember that little part last episode when Ryan goes "Watch your back Jim", they made it to where he was obviously not kidding. The Toby addition was great, further building on his lust for Pam.

The Dwight/Andy/Angela exchanges were just fantastic. Best mad libs ever.

Oh yea and Pam threatening Jim she will say no to his faux proposal (fauxposal?), pretty much implies she will say yes. Though it could be a swerve!

I also think Jim getting a warning and Stanley blowing up is part of the writers trying to get us to speculate who is going to the spinoff.
The stare that Andy gave when Jim one-upped his suggestion was priceless.
"How about a newer outgoing message with even MORE zing and pep?"

Another fantastic episode.

Lines of the night:

"Crips? Bloods?"

"Both. Latin Kings also...Newsies."

"What are the pink lines?"

"Menstrual cycles."

"This can all be fixed with the Dwight Schrute emergency plan."

On a side note, Ryan plays his character so well I want to punch him in his smug little face. I hate his character.

My hope is that he gets fired from his current job and then gets placed back at his old job UNDER Michael and Jim next year or the year after.

If the spinoff was about the downstairs warehouse, I would watch it. They can call it "Fleece It Out". Or if they spun off Andy or someone to one of the other 5 families, that would be interesting as well.

Last night's episode was pretty good. Daryl is always great.

And I agree, I hate Ryan. I'm going through the older seasons and realizing he's always been a douche. I thought he was solely funny before but now he's funny and an asshole.

Decent episode, although I was expecting more from the golfing scenes with Jim, Kevin, and Andy.

Lines of the night came from Andy:

"I hit about 1200 golf balls last night in preparation for today."

"Shortcut! Shortcut!" as he drives his cart into the bunker.

Creed: "We're gonna ditch this bitch--you in?"

Michael: "We need to euthanize this office."

Looks like they're saving a bunch of storyline conclusions/new beginnings for the season finale next week.

My official prediction: Dwight and Angela get engaged and Pam turns down Jim.

Another thought--I've been watching season 2 and 3 in between episodes this season, and I can't help but feel that the quality of the show has dropped this year. Seems there were many more laugh out loud moments before this year. That's not to say this year hasn't been good, but to me it seems to be the a down year.

Maybe the staff shakeup will help a little next year--I think, if they go this direction, that Andy will be an absolute perfect choice to head up the new spinoff. Putting him as the head in a new office and expanding his character COULD be great if written well.

I think the timing is off this season after the hour long episodes in the beginning. There is not enough of that awkward pause time from the first couple seasons that make each joke even better. The jokes come flying fast now. Especially post strike since they try to cram so much into each episode.

Nailed it.

Anyway, I kinda think the whole strike really interfered with the quality. Its still my favorite show (besides lost), but I too hope next season is better.

Edit: And what was up with that last Pam scene? Seeking a new job? Hmmm.

Gotta go with Plinko's comments.

The feeling I get from this episode was "lost potential." I imagined Micheal going to a job fair and all kinds of havoc being wrought. Instead he just puttered around and made fun of kids and then made a speech that was awkward and boring.

Was also let down with Andy and Kevin, who showed that they can be a good comedy team.

Everything else was just bland.

They're definitely trying to keep everyone guessing about the upcoming spinoff. With Jim aiming higher for the sake of his future with Pam, who's to say that he won't just get a new job. And the end where Pam talks of New York and Philly, more room for possibilities. Will they dare to move Jim and Pam off the Office? Hmm..

Andy crashing the cart was the big  moment for me. I think they took it overboard with his blisters. I liked the belly hiding shot of Angela and Dwight leaving the office, its almost like a nod to fans who know shes pregnant. Michael telling Jim to kiss Pam was creepy in all the right ways.

Another thing to think of is the people who play both Pam and Jim are suddenly coming into their own in terms of the box office... so there is a chance they want off the show to persue a bigger career in Hollywood.

I know the dude who plays Jim just wrapped a movie with George Clooney, and Jenna Fischer has been in a few movies off and on.

I wonder if they are planning on them leaving the show?

John Krasinksi (Jim) has been in two movies. The first was horrible, and the second was passable at best, living only off the star power of himself and Clooney (mostly Clooney).

He's no movie star in the least. I've found that he can't be a leading man - he can't go out and be a swaggering diva that is given the most lines and camera time. He's much better suited as a reactionary character - he needs people to say dumb stuff to him, and he smarts off back or gives a funny facial expression.

It doesn't help that most of his honest ability is his fourth-wall-breaking that occurs so frequently in the Office, since the camera is considered part of the actual scene. He's just not that great of a leading man (at the moment).

I don't think Jim and Pam will be leaving. They're just throwing out little tidbits for us to start speculating. Like the whole Ryan on drugs thing, its a popular theory that he'll be fired and Jim will take his place. I think it could be possible that Jim take the job for Pam. Maybe Pam can go to school in New York. I would love to see Ryan desperately taking a job under Michael after being fired.

I'll agree with the funny but could of been funnier crowd.

30 Rock has done a much better job picking it back up post-strike, imho.
I really liked that Creed called Angela "Pumpkin". I'm using that from now on, Pumpkin.
That was freaking hilarious!

"Pumpkin's out! Let's go."
"Pam is a beautiful person and a talented artist but I'd never say that to her face."
Haha, YES!

So Jim proposes, Pam says no so she can attend graphic artist classes in NYC... That was my initial thought of how the season finally would go after watching this weeks episode. Hope it doesn't go that route, would be to much of a cop out.
