I got a nook and tried the Honeycomb preview. I played with it a little and took it off in favor of Nookie Froyo. It was cool for a preview, but it isn't really that usable right now IMO. Only thing I don't like about using froyo is that since the nook has no home, back, properties, or search button I have to use softkeys program to replicate them. In Honeycomb those buttons are software that just resides in the bottom of the screen.
I was wondering when minecraft could come out for android. Someone at work told me it is only about 3MB so I didn't see why it would not be able to be ported.
Somebody was actually able to somehow stream the game to their phone. I'm sure it didn't work well, but never underestimate the resourcefulness of a WOW addict.
I really don't know why people are buying last years phones right nows. I mean if you're in a pinch and need something right away that's one thing. But I keep talking to people who are so excited to have their new phone, then I tell them what's about to come out, and they're like "wut?".

If the price is right on a good -- but perhaps somewhat dated -- device, I don't see the point in waiting on the latest and greatest. Especially considering that delays often crop up. It's all about being a cheap ass, son!
Depends on the deal. You also have to remember that these older devices may not get updated as far as the newest ones, so you're also possibly sacrificing increased functionality down the road. I mean when I got my Fascinate I paid 1 cent for it through amazon, and that was not long after it came out.

now I need to find a way to force my EVO to roam on Verizon towers all the time, so Sprint kicks me out, ETF free
This is something ive looked into as well.. I have a verizon and sprint phone. The 3g coverage on verizon is loads better than on Sprint. Sprint 3g doesnt really seem stable at all.
I'm waiting for a Verizon sales rep to call me with offers to upgrade me to a newer phone since I hit upgrade last friday.
They usually call within 2 weeks of my upgrade qualification.
When I get the call I will tell them that I will wait til June then drop verizon (when my 24 months is up)...they will do anything to keep me (aka kiss my ass)...so I might end up getting a droid type phone for less than 100 bucks
Is it worth to root an original Moto DROID? My phones been freezing up a lot (escpecially when I exit apps) and I heard rooting and installing custom ROM helps out a lot. Is it easy to do? I've only installed custom firmware on my PSP, is the process sort of similar? lol

Here's what I used to force mine to roam all the time:
2/3 of my 1.5GB of data used this month has been roaming...
Two words of caution though: 1) using the above link instuctions forces the use of your plan's anytime minutes for EVERY call 2) upload speeds went into the shitter according to the SpeedTests.net app.
Also wondering when we will get 2.3 on the Evo
I'm already running 2.3 on mine.
But I'm pretty sure 2.3 Gingerbread will come to the EVO...
I haven't tried flash yet, but mobile youtube looks really good on it. No reason why flash shouldn't work on Nookie though. I've got the 1.1ghz kernel running on mine, thing works liek a champ. Only thing I don't like is the lack of physical navagation buttons, how the hell do apple fans get by with just a single button? Softkeys makes up for it, but it's just kinda weird using it.
A full blown Honeycomb rom should happen soon once all the official tablets start coming out and Google spills the beans on the source. The preview is stable and all, just kinda limited.
I can't believe some of the bullshit carriers try to pull. The "Droid X2" is such a joke, it isn't even LTE compatible. They're basically going to force X owners into buying that thing if they want any more OS upgrades.

Welcome to Android.
Don't place all of the fault carriers, either. Off the top of my head Sony, Motorola, and Samsung pissed in buyers faces with reneging updates.
I tried out CM7...man, things kind of a piece of shit. It's really ugly and unintuitive.
I ended up switching to Myn's new Warm Z ROM, which has Sense 2.0 (which is faningtastic), only thing is since it's the first release and based off the Desire Z (which is a GSM phone), certain things don't work or need a work around. Like 4G, front camera (fix for that) and lengthy text messages. I'm looking forward to future releases though.

Oh I know, unless outside development continues my Fascinate will never have Gingerbread. I swear that if Google ever does a Verizon google phone I'll buy it.
Anyone here have experience rooting a Nook Color? I bought one about a week and a few days ago, but I would like to have a better PDF reader (one that I can search by word).
I know they have a 2.2 and a 3.0 OS beta out, I was just wondering if anyone has done it and what you recommend OS wise I install?
For Nook Color questions, NookDevs is a very good place to start.
And to reiterate for anyone who's squeamish about rooting an NC: you don't HAVE to root the NC to play around with Android on the device. Because of the NC's boot order (SD first, then internal eMMC), you can burn a ROM image to an SD card, then have NC boot to the SD card to play around with whatever flavor of Android you like. None of this will violate warranties or "brick" anything.
Provided that you're willing to RTFA, a combination of NookDevs and XDA will have you up and playing on the NC in hours. If you're looking for somewhere to start, I'd say deeper-blue's Honeycomb preview build is a good place, as it will give you an idea of the potential for the NC as an Android tablet. Given the sizable dev community behind the NC, there's a pretty good chance it will realize most, if not all, of that potential.

Thanks a bunch, I would rather do this method because I just need a better PDF reader and I don't want to void my warranty over it (I have an iPod touch for the other stuff like music, etc).
Yeah just do a Nookie Froyo install to an SD card, just make sure it's a fairly fast SD card, class 6 at least. Then just use whatever PDF viewer you want.
WiMax works, but I don't use it as I'm roaming as much as possible.
When I use SpeedTest.net app in my place, I get 3Mb/s down w/ WiMax on, but about 500 kb/s when roaming on VZW.
And who the uses the HDMI out?
Are you running a Gingerbread ROM? I haven't run into that one the above ROM.
I'm not using a rom. I unrooted my phone. I was having issues with it shutting down and resetting at times before I even rooted it. After I rooted it the thing worked fine for a little bit then went to the same bull shit. Now that it is unrooted it resets at times. I'm thinking about just taking it back to sprint. I'm paying i think 7 bucks a month for a service plan so will they charge me to get a new one or mine fixed?
I wish it were an open beta.
I am really looking forward to Friday. I should be getting an Optimus V then, as long as RadioShack has it in stock.
Anyone with an Optimus have a suggestion for a good case and screen protectors? I'm hoping to be able to use the $10 GC from buying it on a case and protectors, unless they're outrageously priced.
I'm cautiously excited. I'm excited because it's my first true smartphone, but I'm cautious because I know that every RadioShack within 100 miles won't have it in stock (just like Best Buy, who's cheaper, but doesn't have it in stock).

The Optimus V is the same as the Optimus S(Sprint) in terms of accessories.
When I set up a V for a family member, I went to Amazon.com and grabbed a silicone case and a multipack of screen protectors, and I chose by free shipping options. I spent under $10 for a blue protector and a 3 screen guards.
And did you know the Optimus V is $130 this week @BB? Why not take a BB ad to Target and price match?
