I told him to open it up, and it turned out to be the package with Source Code/Anchorman/Let Me In.

However, he said that the movies were untouched because of how well amazon packaged it

Looks like Amazon told me they wouldn't be able to fix the issue with my copy of Unknown. They issued a refund and asked me to ship it back to them.

I'm not sure if the combo version has a different UPC than the non-combo version, though I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

The combo version of X-Men First Class that was a Target exclusive has the same UPC # as the non-combo version they now sell and everyone was selling from day one. I think Sucker Punch was the same way as well, when they switched from combo pack to non-combo pack.

I wonder if I should give it a shot or just stick with what I got. Has anyone received the correct combo version of Unknown? I don't understand why it's so difficult to get it right unless they absolutely don't have them in stock anywhere.

By the way what are you guys using to ship stuff back to them? I'm getting tired of spending almost $2 a pop for new mailers and I was under the impression I couldn't just tape up the one I got the movie in.

I reuse mailers all the time. As long as they're not ripped to hell and have all the previous postage stickers removed or marked out, it's all good.

You can just return Amazon orders in the box/mailer they sent it to you in.

Speaking of UPC# and slipcases, I bought 2 copies of Sucker Punch from Amazon. One for me and one for my bro last Friday. One came with a slipcase and the other doesn't. Both were same price ($7.99 each).

The one that came with a slipcase has 3 discs (2 BDs, 1 DVD+DigitalCopy). The one with doesn't come iwth a slipcase has 2 discs only (2 BDs).

Both has the same UPC number: 8839217742

We've seen this with Sucker Punch, X-Men First Class (Target exclusive version with BD/DVD/DC in initial release week(s)), Unknown and Black Swan (Target exclusive version with BD/DVD/DC in initial release week(s)), Predators (Walmart exclusive version with BD/DVD/DC in initial release week(s)) and Splice (Walmart exclusive version with BD/DVD/DC in initial release week(s)), just to name a few. I think Source Code dropped its digital copy along the way to change to its "Special Edition" which is BD-disc movie-only.

I'm guessing this is to stir up initial sales of the movie in the first weeks of release with the combo pack and then generate more sales with a cheaper price of a movie-only version.

You are correct.. As with Sucker Punch, I noticed that the only difference is the outside slipcover. The bluray disc covers art are the same on both versions.

My guess is that the studios would take back the combo discs after initial sales, take out the DVDs and repackage it as a separate DVD item and leave Blu disc (removing the slipcase) in the original case and re-shrink wrap it back. They'll make more money this way?

No clue. I can tell you from comparison at BB my Up in the Air was identical all except for the ribbing on the cover art. It must be an issue with how they store these because it certainly doesn't seem like they resealed it. I've personally worked with heat guns before and I don't ever recall them doing this, so it must be something else.

Well then that would certainly cause the issue we are having. The guy literally took 20 minutes last night trying to figure out what was going on with Unknown. In the end he said I could either return it for a refund or get a $3 credit. I took the credit just to be done with it. Studios are really starting to aggravate me with some of the things they are doing with disc versions/packing/content etc.

Yeah when I worked at Best Buy way back when I never torched the insert with a heat gun haha. Maybe they use one of those huge shrink wrap machines or maybe it's something in the shipping process process that does it, *shrug*

I think the studios make X number of combo packs, send them out into the distribution channels with the retailers and when they're gone, they're gone.

What is completely asinine in this case is using the same UPC. If the package for one item is BD / DVD / DC and the other item is BD-only, why should they share the same UPC? The retailer doesn't know different and they end up with issues like this.

At least X-Men First Class has a unique slipcover with unique artwork for its BD / DVD / DC version and I think the cover art was the same as the other ones currently out there. Sucker Punch had a slip that was only different with the "Combo Pack" at the top, as the cover and slip had the same main artwork.

I don't have Blu so I don't know if this info helps you much, but I have all 3 seasons on DVD. Season 1 had no slip cover, season 2 did, and season 3 had a cardboard thing with that peel off glue on the front trying to mimic the front of a slipcover. Maybe its the same for Blu?

My copies of Fast Five and Transformers Dark of the Moon came. Mint condition, correct versions and both with slipcovers. If Best Buy offered a Prime type service I'd be all over it and would probably buy a lot more from them as a result.

I got my last BF/CM item today, and everything was what I expected except Inception and the Tron 5 disc pack. Like others have reported, my copy of Inception came with three discs instead of two so that was a nice surprise. Tron, however, did not come with a slipcover, which I didn't even know was a possibility. I went to Best Buy but the two Tron copies there were somewhat beat up, and I already knew that Target and Walmart don't carry the 5 disc edition, so as a Hail Mary I went to Meijer. Crazily enough (or maybe just what you would expect from the fourth or fifth store down the list for buying movies) they not only had several copies of the 5 disc Tron pack in mint condition, but they also had Inception 3 disc with lenticular slip and Inglourious Basterds in the gold Academy Awards slip. I picked up those three and I'll return my copies later, so let's just say I'm pretty content.
