The Official Ninja Gaiden Sigma Thread (demo's up for DL)

I remember that Tecmo said that they wasn't going to put Ninja Gaiden on the ps2, as it wasn't powerful enough to run the game. I think that Tecmo has been waiting a long time to get their products outside of the xbox realm.

Wow this is sounding great.

"It's not just a port to us."

I really hope they push the PS3. I saw that they are going to use the GUI's for the graphics already.

umm doesn't look "amazing" i know i won't buy it because i never want to play such a hard game ever again. The fighting system was so good but the game was so hard it was a chore not any fun.

Yeh I was about to ask if he even read the interview because that is what I got from it too.

I found it to be great fun, and much easier than the original Ninja Gaiden titles. So, I dunno. I don't think I'm any good at games anymore, but this is one title compelling enough to make me play through it and enjoy probably a good 95% of it (there were minor frustrating points, but that was using no strategy guide).

Agree, the original three Ninja Gaidens on NES were damn hard. It took me 5 years to finally beat the first Ninja Gaiden, then again I was only 12 and horrible at games when I first started playing it. The original Xbox Ninja Gaiden was hard at first but once I learn the key was blocking and countering it became more managable.

If you were good at the game it was pretty satisfying. It was a hard game, but I enjoyed almost every minute of it.

I thought this was pretty interesting...

1UP: On the technical side of things, what's the highest resolution Ninja Gaiden Sigma will support and why?

YH: Well, this game is going to support 720p, and that is because we have determined that this is optimal resolution to get the best quality images out of the PS3. There are companies out there that are developing games at 1080p, and the problem is that they're really pushing the limits of the hardware at that resolution, and I think that if you examine it objectively you will see that in order to get the best balance of performance and image quality then 720p is your only choice. I think that the companies that are making a big deal out of making games at 1080p are either underestimating their ability to get their games to run well at that resolution, or they're basically just using that as an advertising gimmick. I'm confident that if you want to make the best-looking game you can on PS3, then 720p is your only choice.

Here's the full interview:
http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?pager.offset=0&cId=3156377

Also has some new in-game screenshots that make me think this game will overtake GoW as the current "best looking game ever." They plan on using most of the PS3's processor for graphics alone.

I don't expect to see too many 1080p games until late 2008. By then, I believe, developers will be more used to the hardware and will be able to have a good looking 1080p game without sacrificing too much performance.

See, I was a bit iffy on this game simply because Itagaki's not doing everything, but now I'm confident. This guy's actually thinking rationally about what the PS3's strengths are rather than saying "ooh, well 1080p is lik teh bigger number so its always better for everything! Framerates are stopid!" The latest screenshots look absolutely unbelievable. I cannot wait for this game and it's obviously a day 1 purchase for me.

What an awesome interview:

1UP: Are you married?

YH: No.

1UP: Do you plan to be some day?

YH: [Laughs] Probably, someday.

1UP: Because some girl is going to love you. You're a very sensitive guy. "Honey, why don't you change your hair today?"

[Laughs]

1UP: I like you. You give very straightforward, honest, interesting answers. Sometimes I gotta work Itagaki to the bone to get a straight answer out of him. [Turns to translator] You know what I'm talking about!

[Laughs]

Indeed... it's bumped up on my list too. :) I think it's refreshing to see that a developer can balance the hype with the reality of a new console. Does this mean 1080p is a wash and no one is going to get any 1080p games? Certainly not, but it does show that there is lots of potential for improvement... I'd much rather see the PS3 tweaked and tweaked to get every ounce of power out of the unit than for them to make a few 1080p games, claim it's impossible and abandon the idea. :) The potential is staggering, for both the PS3 and the 360 (provided we're given enough time to get them fully exploited... I'm more worried about Microsoft's console life-span since this is the 2nd console entry in only a few years... but I imagine that since this one has been more successful, perhaps they'll allow it room to breathe...)

Hopefully by 2008 the price of the 1080p TVs will be less as well. Ive been contemplating the 1080p Westinghouse for a while not since it a little bit less then $1,500.

Indeed. It's still to early to jump on the 1080p bandwagon (after jumping on the 720p bandwagon only 8 months ago...) heh.

By the time I'll need a 1080p TV (at considerably more real estate than my current 32")... they'll be the same price range as the ever-so-crowded 720p/1080i segment.

While the 1080p support is great for blu-ray movies now, I'm willing to wait for 1080p gameplay. Hopefully MGS4 will be in 1080p. I mean if anyone can tap out the power of the ps3, it's gotta be kojima's team.

oops, didn't see it. anyway, I thought the 720p vs. 1080p thing was relevant to everyone.

See, I was a bit iffy on this game simply because Itagaki's not doing everything, but now I'm confident. well, Itagaki has always had 60fps games...up until DoAX2. But I see what you mean, this guy is pretty down to earth. For one thing, I don't remember Itagaki ever admitting that Zelda was an influence on Ninja gaiden.

Hate to beat a dead horse, but Ninja Gaiden for the XBOX was not difficult. In juxtaposition with the original Ninja Gaidens on the NES it was a walk in the park. Try jumping over ledges, while dodging those damned eagles.

But once you remember everything it turned easy, same as in Rush N Attack.

So Master Ninja difficulty was a cake walk for you then? :p

ANYWAY--

big update:

the game has a front cover story in PSM.

here are some scans from some guys photobucket account: http://s152.photobucket.com/albums/s190/123ninja_2007/
They're on the bottom

and news bits from the article:
Ninja Gaiden:

* There are many new animations for the PS3 version
* The game looks better than the screenshots in the article
* By shaking the Sixaxis around you can power up your Ninpo magic
* Everyone is redone for the PS3 version, from the enemies, to the backgrounds, the textures, and the animations
* The game has high res textures
* Hayashi, the dev behind Sigma said that he firmly believes Sigma is entirely new
* Sigma will run at 60 FPS
* Sigma is 19 to chapters long, 3 more than the other one
* There are a ton of new enemies
* Some Special force enemeis will ride Motorcycles
* You can play the game in 3 different ways: no install, partial install, and full install
* The game supports 720p
* Hayashi said that they do not really take hardware sales into account for their games.
* The game will support full self-shadowing
* Rachel will have her own story missions
* Rachel has her own moves and animations
* The camera in Sigma is improved over Black
* A new difficutly level
* The game will have Karma ranking and online leaderboards
* It's a remake, not a port

The Full Install feature sounds interesting. Wondering how much space and just what it means... That mean you won't need the disc?

New details sound interesting, but it is still basically the third time for this game. I'd pick it up cheap, say $30 or so, but I wouldn't pay full price for a game I already beat once. It will be interesting to see how improved the final product is.

This is the one game on Xbox I wanted to play and never could becuase I never had one. If it isn't as difficult as the last one, and is really good, I might have to buy it if it comes out before Heavenly Sword.

you should look into NGBlack if you liked the first one, it's a completely different game. just like this is different from the previous two. same physical levels, but enemies, enemy layouts, weapons, moves, item placement, bosses, mission mode etc. is all changed. and it'll have the best graphics yet on the PS3 :)

It's not like, say, SF2 to SF2:championship edition, it's more like Resident Evil 1 compared to the REmake on the gamecube, but more drastically changed.

Actually, all I ever played was Black, and though I realize it had improvements, my understanding was that they weren't that significant. I think the REmake is a stretch comparison from everything I've read, and also with Sigma. But hey, maybe that's just me. I'm not going to argue about the original and Sigma when I haven't played them. Sigma just looks more like a director's cut than a new game or even a full remake, and that's why I said I would look at it cheap. :)

Gotcha. I guess a diehard NG fan would notice all the differences more. but whoever told you the differences in Black weren't significant was blind or never played the game
Full install means I'll be taking this mothafucka back to Gamestop when it's on my hard drive.
I'd highly doubt they would be that stupid...

there's no way it's going to be that kind of install. you'll probably still need the disc to boot the game.

which makes me wonder if hackers will create a no-cd patch like they do for pc games and such

lol

"Though DAOX 2 isn't on PS3, trust us when we say the game lives on in Sigma, at least in spirit."

I bought a Xbox just for Ninja Gaiden and now I bought a PS3 because of Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Hopefully the new difficulty is super fukin tough. I loved beating both NG and Black on the toughest difficulties. My favorite games of this past generation.

You'd still need the disc to keep playing it.

Yes yes, me likey, me likey MUCHO TIMES!

I wonder if they'll tweak the difficulty so that enemies are hard, but don't kill you in a cheap way. I like challenges, but there's a difference between having you work cut out for you and just having to deal with insanely unfair cheap tactics. Those rocket dudes you have to nail with arrows was just annoying. I loved everything else though, although the final fight was much easier than the first boss fight IMO, which I found to be a bit dissapointing.

Kotaku is spitting the word "port" at this title as if it is a bad thing. Guess I should know better then to read anything there, so I'll count this as a lesson learned.

this game has two strikes going against it:

1. It's on the PS3

2. It's made by Team Ninja

Everybody will hate it. even sony fanboys will say god of war 2 is better

Ps3 is the cool system to hate.

Team Ninja is the cool developer to hate.

I'm joking though.
The word that's been going around is that this is Ninja Gaiden Black: Special Edition for PS3. In the Famitsu article they would of clearly stated it was Ninja Gaiden 2 instead of this Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Lastly, from prior interviews (1up, IGN, etc.) Itagaki "pretty much" confirmed Ninja Gaiden 2 was coming to 360(exclusive or timed exclusive). This is just more SDF spin on something they really want.

AfterEdit: Michaellvortega, proves it.
I did some reading on this and this is more than just Ninja Gaiden Black 2.0. Two characters to CHOOSE from, not swap with. Rachael has her own set of moves and the special effects are awesome looking. This game will definitely get me to buy a PS3. The pics that I saw are just sick. I am a big fan of the series and I will play it on every console!

I don't have a single doubt it'll be better than heavenly sword. wasn't their last game Kung Fu Chaos? This is Team Ninja we're talking about here. :)

1) Thanks for the video.
2) Better than Heavenly Sword? Come on, like this has any chance of not being the best stylish action game ever. Seriously, I have a feeling this'll shit on even Devil May Cry 4.

Ohh I have no doubt it will be better than DMC4, but the thing is with Heavenly Sword is that Sony is pumping a lot of money into and I am sure is getting some advice from the Sony Santa Monica team how to make a good game.

This is going to sound so lame-- but money can't buy the skills that team ninja has to make a good action game. Imagine how much money they threw at God of War 2 and the gameplay is still pretty one dimensional and weak.

Team Ninja has the experience and talent...and they're japanese
