i really wish i could run the internet in the background, this would be great since you can listen to radio stations and XM radio online.. live streaming internet radio in the background while playing games would be lovely

EDIT: Mana, What Zewone is saying is that there are no games to play on the PS3 besides MGS4. Werd.
That's basically trolling right there or HIS own opinion. They are plenty of good games on PS3, multi-platform and exclusive. I will admit PS3 is far from being the console with the best games, but it does have some good stuff.

But, let's just end this argument and stick with firmware.

Anyway, I'm kind of wondering if what I earned in some games, like DMC4, trophies in PAIN, etc. will translate into trophies in Firmware 2.4. It will be interesting to see. Also, I heard reports that at the moment, there are certain games which haven't been posted to see whether the XMB comes up. A rumor floating around (which I believe is), if someone is playing a PS2 game, you'll see the same menu come up when pressing the PS Button (I expect it, since you sign off of PSN when playing a PS2 game, so it's not like you can message friends anyway).

Also, that reminds me, we did receive Firmware update 2.17 like a week or two before Firmware 2.2 back in Feb.

You're the one who said the PS3 was the best Audio Player out there. You could consider that trolling or YOUR own opinion. ;)

Which is a bit subjective, don't you think?

The PS Triple has the same games as the 360, along with some exclusives as well.

...

So how are we getting trophies in 2.40 when those are for HOME? Are they also viewable from a menu or something?

Trophy support isn't part of home, just the Trophy room which allows you to display your trophies all fancy like.

Otherwise, trophies can be seen in the XMB just fine.

You assholes need to stop clogging up my thread. Go learn about audio processing and check out AVS before you continue arguing about the PS3 as an entertainment device.
You assholes need to stop clogging up my thread. Go learn about audio processing and check out AVS before you continue arguing about the PS3 as an entertainment device.
I have to agree, and if I could, I would have deleted everyones post not related to firmware including my own, since I'll admit I went a bit too far.

I do apologize for not mentioning IMO in my post (about how the PS3 is a music player), so I edited my post to show it. Usually I do, but I realized I did not. My mistake, I honestly prefer not to stir up anything. Everyone else, lets just cool it please and understand I made an error.

Anyway, my guess is we'll see this update late next week. My guess is July 1st at 11pm EST (that's usually when firmware goes up). Many people in industry say we can expect other features within 2.4, but want to surprise us. I'm thinking two features will be included, which have not been mentioned (like multiple sign-on and doing a videochat in game). Oh course, this is only a guess.

One article I read (trying to remember where I saw it), it states we'll be able to see friend's trophies on the XMB, but I honestly don't see how it would work (unless there was an option next to each friend saying "View Trophies").

Hope this helps put the thread back on-track.

Check it:

Looks pretty cool if that's real. It's basically a PS3 gamercard, and it seems like that's just the middle page.

I like the 4 tiers of trophies. Bronze trophies could just be progress through the game and small things. Then it steps up as trophy requirements get higher. Then each game could also have a single platinum level achievement that's the hardest thing to get.

So has it been said what we'll be able to do with in game XMB exactly? Is it just to view/send messages and see your friends list? Any chance of private voice chat?

I'm guessing you will still have to quit out of the game to install downloads and probably to surf the web. I think most other things should be accessible through In-game XMB.
In game Web Browser would be the whip, although I doubt its gonna happen
When the Wii was still new, I read that you could switch between channels from the home menu by pressing + or -, and even load up the browser. I was SO disappointed when I found out how much of a lie that was.

The damn thing crashes so often when it's the only thing open. I can't imagine how bad it would be with a game playin'.

I hear you, but having the HD crash on my laptop a month ago, I learned a lot of tricks on keeping it open. I really have zero problems with it now. That does not get around the fact that the web browser overall is garbage.

Never click on links while zoomed in
Only run plugins when absolutely necessary
Open separate windows
Dont visit memory intensive sites
Clear your cookies and cache a lot
Give pages time to load
Sign out of PSN

Most of these are obvious, but my browser used to crash all the time. Using these and others have helped tremendously. Basically text heavy sites (such as this one) are fine. I just had 3 CAG topics and one youtube video plus digg homepage open at the same time.
1. Figure out your most frequent pages to visit.
2. Bookmark them.
3. Success.

Don't bother using it if you're just looking for standard browsing.
Figured this was a given. Just bringing up the text/keyboard box causes problems.
Well, the only page I had open was youtube, and it was crashin'. I'll try signing out of PSN. Thanks.
Hopefully it helps. The more you use it the more you get a feel for what makes it crash.

That's odd. I've never had it crash on me. WTF are you doing to it, Zewone? I think that it knows you hate it. It is, after all, 4D and self-aware. I hear that Saddam Hussein is trying to buy them up from beyond the grave...

I don't understand why Sony didn't contract a company like Opera to develop a decent PS3 browser. The Wii's browser works better than the PS3's which is just pathetic.

I click links while zoomed in all the time.
I only use the browser when I'm tired and just want to check the front page of GAF after playing a game for bit.

I used to use it as a quickie to play youtube videos on my TV too.
It's never crashed on me though, strange.
I'd never surf regularly on it though.

My PC needs a new mobo, so this will have to do until it arrives.

smiggity had to go through a similar situation. He seems to be the only who knows what they're talkin' about.

You're doing it wrong.

Is PSN down right now? I just fired up my PS3 to play some MGS4 and I get a message saying "Use of Playstation Network has been suspended. Try and sign on again later."

Its been back up since 4pm est...
not from me but:

Firmware 2.40 is hitting between or on July 1st-3rd.

In-game XMB is primarily for messaging and music.
Really pumped for the trophy system. I hope that screenshot earlier is fake, its ugly as fuck.

The leaked screenshot falls in line with previous Bioshock PS3 shots where there was something called a "Platinum Trophy" or something like that on there. I would say they're true. I don't really mind. It looks ok given the low quality shot.
Now if only you could compare them with friends on PS3 and over the internet. Then we'd have something here.

it's most likely real. it'll look alot better when you see the real deal in front of you. stats and everything on the "card" will take away from its ugliness.

Ya, unlike plenty of others here at CAG, I usually only post if I am knowledgeable on the subject at hand.

Anyways, here is a list of features that should be accessible through in-game XMB. It seems like Romeo's date was right on, b/c everyone is saying 2-3 weeks.

Friend category
• View, send, receive messages
• Manage downloads
• Set the vibration feature of the controller
• Sign in to PlayStation Network
• Register friends
• Manage Bluetooth devices
• Terminate the game
• Music category
• Use the system BGM
• Work the system BGM operation panel
• Settings category
• Assign controllers
• View profiles
• Game category
• Set audio devices
• Use the voice changer
Will older games that came out before this update have trophies to get you think? Like Rock Band, RB6V2, MGS4 and R+C?
I imagine they could be added like the DS3 support.

I'm calling BS since nothing's mentioned about Trophies or this Gamercard feature that popped up recently. And what's with "Terminate the game"?

What would be interesting to see is if you could switch the resolution on the fly. I doubt it though. But in-game XMB will definitely be better than the blades because it'd be most of the menu instead of a blip.
