Welcome to the Official CAG Gamerush/Blockbuster video game deal thread.

First and foremost, please check out the
GameRush Trade-In Prices Wiki.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals, of which there are none currently).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
There will be absolutely NO DISCUSSION of the recent doctored coupon. Do not discuss what you bought, what you traded it for, or anything else - all such posts will be deleted. Any discussion of that should be done here.

Also, it is bad form to discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arrive (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell new and used video game hardware, with the exception of the occasional new controller/memory card spotted at regular stores. (Edit - Some recent exceptions have cropped up: many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and a few stores have been reported to sell DS Lites).

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of new games (though, it seems, many of those have even stopped taking preorders).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later.

Thanks for the listings guys. Was able to accrue $262 in store credit through trading in The Darkness, Hour of Victory, Forza 2 and MUA, plus some other miscellaneous games that I had bought when I was young and foolish. Scored a 60GB PS3 today and couldn't be happier. :D

How much was the 60 gig? Did u find a used one?
the stores are not linked.... that is why you can rent movies from different stores even if you have a late fee at a BB down the road.
They actually are linked to an extent. If your balance goes above $30 you are blocked at all stores until it is taken care of.

And with block for trades they come from corporate, so they block the account at all stores as well. That is why your driver's license # is on the account. It links the account at any store.

Unless you happen to have multiple accounts in system from before which is relatively common because until last summer they really were completely different at every store.
Try it out and let them scan it. Report back with the results CAGer.
Went in & everything scan ok...I did have a problem with Tony Hawk Proving Grounds...They wouldn't accept for some reason...The guy saids its not in our system...I ask him to type it & he said NO!...I guess imma have to print a cover of the regular version TH...Hopefully it doesnt drop today...

I have 2 separate accounts, different account numbers. Not sure if they are linked though, I don't believe they are... Any way to definitely know?

I have at least 4 different store accounts, and none of them are linked. I have trading acct's at all of them and I can trade freely at 3 of them (one of them being a cover and multiple copy nazi). Lucky for me I have traded in at least 7 MUA/Forza's and never had to print out a cover.

Up to $540 in credit by trading in random clearanced games + moving all of my Gamestop credit to Blockbuster at pretty much a $1 to $2 ratio.

I'm actually amazed considering I didn't start doing this until last month.
Today:

Marvel Alliance - 30
Hour of victory - 32 they wouldnt take it b/c it had scratches on it
What version of Marvel Alliance was that? Or more speifically, do you know if the PS3 version is worth 30?

Just called and Forza 2 is holding at $22 this week.

Stranglehold (360) also is still getting $28.50 (whew, wanted to finish it this week before I traded it).

Hmm. I just picked this up, and I am bit disappointed with it. I absolutely loved the X-Men Legends games, but I am just not feeling it with this game.

I've never used Gamerush (or even traded a game in before), but there is a Blockbuster Gamerush down the street from me. So I am guessing this is $30 in-store credit? Can I use this on rentals or only on Gamerush stuff?

Or is there a cash option with a reduced value?

Also, I live in Georgia as well, since I see a lot of people in this thread are from Georgia.

you get store credits when you trade it in. You can use it on anything in the store.

Okay, just a reminder for myself to check the potential on:

Hour of Victory
Two Worlds
Darkness
MUA/F2

And just something funny: we've been flipping Darkness for $32 since the middle of November- and it looks like it's going to still be $32 at the beginning of February!

Hmm. Pretty good if I plan on getting a movie or game pass. So, there is no cash option then?

Not unless you live in California. It's a golden age for CAGlifornians.

Ah. Thanks for the clarification guys.

How long are these trade values good for? I am thinking of taking this and Untold Legends. Does anyone know how much that game goes for?

Also, are there any good deals on any new PS3 games over there that I should look for?

Trade values are updated every tuesday. As for trade values for specific games, look to the wiki (link on the first post) or call your local store. As for PS3 games, the only one that comes to mind with me is if you can find the Bigs clearanced at your local target for 14.78. That trades for $33 to make it a fine kunai candidate.

That's good to hear. I think I'll buy another Marvell / Forza bundle from GS -- trade in Forza and keep Marvell.
It just pisses me off that I need to print out covers!
Waaahhhh. Deal with it, print them covers. I printed one out and it looked not that great, and they still took it.

I have to trade in MLB 07 this week....looking forward to 08. Hopefully 07 still gets around $22 or so. I also have PGR3 to unload, since I have PGR4 now.

Still not flipping much though :( Just trading.

Got $25 yesterday for Tony Hawk: Proving Ground. Since I had the limited edition ($8 at Target) which isn't a sku that's in the Blockbuster system, I took out the cover and used the booklet as a cover. They agreed to look up the game, fortunately, and mumbled something about having to reduce the trade value by a dollar or two since the cover was missing. In the end I got the full $25, though. This turned out to be a 3:1 trade ratio. :)

Thats the problem--they don't take printouts. Not the ones around here.

This may have been covered already, but where do you guys get your images for cover art? I had The Cover Project bookmarked, but it looks like that site is down.

i've called stores around my area and they do not give me quotes over the phone. Can someone share me your store phone number so i can call for a quote, maybe through PM? I will call and post quotes for The Bigs and NBA o7 for the ps3

I think my BB trying to banned me b/c I traded in Hour Of Victory & Darkness once per week & heard a co worker when i was walking out the door, saying that I cant trade games. I been trading games there for 2 years and now they trying to banned me? it doesnt make any sense. im not doing any crime.

last March I remember Blockbuster had alot of games for cheap prices. like 50% off. are they going to do it again this year.
last March I remember Blockbuster had alot of games for cheap prices. like 50% off. are they going to do it again this year.
Being that they have reduced their stock of new games for sale by a significant amount, I doubt it... At least not at the scope that sale once was.
last March I remember Blockbuster had alot of games for cheap prices. like 50% off. are they going to do it again this year.
That was mostly on new last generation games and since they no longer carry any new last generation games I have my doubts. By the way, every BB/GR in my area has a stand up that says "Clearance 9.99 and under games," but it's just regular used game prices and most of the used games in the regular area are just as cheap. Some clearance!
Wait your Blockbusters let you trade in old games? And why do you need a cover for a game you own?
Cuz most of the employees are too stupid to do it manually without the barcode...

Ok i went BB last night & bought some ice cream with value card...I ask the guy to check my balance & he says $120...WTF i'm suppose to have like $280 on it...I haven't use this card in a long time, do you lose credit when you dont use it?

I speed-read the last few pages and didn't see anything so please don't kill me for asking:

Are there any good ways to convert BB/GR credit to GS credit right now?

I think it expires after a YEAR of no activity. Although, if you add stuff to it, that is activity. Read the fine print.

As for employees being stupid, I think it is store policy in some places. Think of it from a retailer AND consumer. The retailer can get more for a used game if it is complete, and a comsumer should not have to pay the same price for a DISC only copy of a game.

...a consumer should not have to pay the same price for a SCRATCHED-UP, UNTRADE-ABLE copy of a game, but that's another issue.:censored:

A consumer should be smart enough to not purchase a scrathed-up untradable copy of a game. Although the used copy of Alvin+Chipmunks I got from GS looked like complete ass, lady at BB looked at it...laughed then scanned it and said "damn 30 bucks". I guess its ymmv.
How much was the 60 gig? Did u find a used one?
$449 brand new. They kept trying to sell the bundle to me though. You would have to ask your BB if they still have 60GB models in stock, since the 2 mine had were in the back room.

It figures. After I blow my ~$150 credit on a shitload of used 360 games, my BBV gets in both Rockband and GH3 bundles for the 360.

Yeah, I saw a load of these at a Blockbuster near me that sells new games. I still didn't think it was worth spending my otherwise usless credit though on them ;). They just aren't for me though I almost picked up GH III anyway. But I still think $35-$40 for it is too much... I just wish they'd get a better selection of other new games. I'm hoping to get SSBB there anyway - they better have that one. (Well, I'll get my GS preorder first and then return the BB copy to GS if/when they get it).

Walmart YYMV money maker. They have 2 packs of wii games, the one I bought was Ninja breadman, and Billy the Wizard, 17$. Each game gets 16$ at GR, so an easy 15$ profit.

I also traded Chicken Shoot 13$ (Crap games), and didn't trade the Tamagochi: Party on game it only gets 9$

Freakin' sweet.

I got a question, if a blockbuster store doesn't have a game you trade in avaiable for rent(probably got stollen or lost) will the they give you more in trade value for it? Because I just traded a regular xbox game two days ago and they gave me 30 credit for it and I was shocked. But then I got greedy so I went to ebay and bought a whole bunch of the same game.....for cheap.... does anyone have any info on this? Did I just waste my money buying more copies of the game and that was a one time thing? or am I going to hit the jackpot when I get my ebay games?

I just called a different BB and he said the trade value for that game is 6$.... either my BB is special or he was looking at the ps2 version

Then again I guess I can get similar value trading the game in various stores... and only lose like a buck from the whole thing.... guess it was worth a shot tho

What game are you talking about, you could check the wiki to see what other people have been getting. Trade in prices change on Tuesday, so anytime you buy something that takes a week to arrive in the mail is a roll of the dice, IMHO it's not a smart move.

Good luck.

the games not updated on wiki and it is smart because I can sell the games for what I'm getting for it anyways.
