The - PERSONA 3 / PERSONA 3 FES - Thread! (FES OUT NOW! $30!)
It's not so much that I don't believe they like collectors, it's that I don't believe they'd pass up on potentially thousands of sales for a small group of people. For example, Disgaea became very popular a few months after it came out, after word got around about it. It became hard to find because it had Atlus' traditional small print run. They reprinted it so a lot more people could actually play it, and Atlus could make money. If they had some stupid rule about never reprinting anything, then it would still be an ebay rarity that not many get to play to this day. Why would any company turn down business? It just doesn't make sense.
They should've just done a reprint of Disgaea and sold them on Ebay! Then they would've made alot more money! :D

Less than 2 days away now...
IF there was someone who was able to find this game, or many copies, and buy them, is it looked down upon to sell them to Atlus fans?
and by that i mean, selling then to cover shipping and taxes, to people that are dying to get their hands on this....
If so, how could one cag get the word out, and help out the atlus fan community?

...Just rhetorical
Check the trading forums. There are some people that did/are doing just this (myself included, as stated above).

Yeah, this is what GameQuestDirect did. No one was really too happy with them after that.

***APPEND DISC CLUES??***

Hey Guys.. not sure if this has been posted, didn't read through the entire thread, just the latest posts and people are still debating append disc or stand alone.. well I got some info that we could use to infer the answer to this.

I went to Gamestop today looking for P3 and said you can now place a pre-order on Persona 3: FES. The thing is.. it's only $29.99! This leads me to believe it's only an append if it's at this price considering P3 is $50 and used is still $45 there. SO, for those of you, you can pre-order FES now at GS and also it's only $30, so MY thought is, append disc only.

Can anyone tell me how the append disc works?

I was able to pre-order FES today no problem. The clerk didn't offer it, there were no signs or anything, but when I asked it was in the system. Back when I worked at GC there were a lot of titles in the computer before we had any info or promos for them.
Where did you see that info at GS? Was it like a flyer or did an employee tell you?
No I was asking if they had any used copies of P3 and he told me via computer info that I could preorder FES.

Well judging from what you and squid said, it looks like a stand-alone disc so far. Thanks for the info. I can't wait for that announcement for some sort of confirmation.
so the stand-alone, how's that work?
I'm not 100% sure, but I think you need a save file from Persona 3 to play it. Someone else can expand or clarify it.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think you need a save file from Persona 3 to play it. Someone else can expand or clarify it.
I guess its kinda like the dotHack games.

My friend was really into the series, and he explained to me that there was 2 ways to play the game.

1) you bought the previous volume and played till the end, and saved after the game ends.
When volume 2 loads, it will search for that said save-file, find it, and start you off just the way you left off, probably transfering items, stats, skills, whatever, and continue playing at the level you left off, probably the cap

2) You loaded volume 2 and it didnt find a previous save file, so the game starts you off below the level cap of the previous game, with generic items and skills.

Does that sound right?
wait, so if its available there....why are they killing each other on ebay for it?

Edit:

Thats what i had in mind.
I dont know, i think the whole thing here thats missing is "effort" to finding the dang game. It took me a while, but i managed :)
in fact i managed so well that i found more than just mind, and i wanted to share my lewt

Hey people even with all this discussion on the append-disc v.s full package, I'm still lost. My main concern is that even with the append disc will I be able to replay through the game with the extras and such. I do own the original copy and have a completed file, so thats not a concern for me . I'm really just hoping its not only episode Aegis. Can somebody fill me in on this?

We don't know yet. Wait until Monday to hear it directly from Atlus.

They're a small company and don't want to take the risk. It's not so simple as just printing up a few more copies and selling them. The collectors drive the niche market.

It's cheaper to produce in bulk (i.e., cheaper to produce 100000 than 10000) but they can't do that because the demand isn't there. If they reprinted 1000 more copies of a rare game, that would probably kill the market for that game. And say they kept doing it, with other games.

Ultimately, everyone (non-collectors and collectors) would see that Atlus games no longer hold value. Collectors will stop buying Atlus games because they can't resell for a profit. Non-collectors won't feel the need to buy Atlus games early because they'll be readily available.

Or at least that's what I think. And that's why I buy any Atlus game that interests me on day one.:p

Ah I was hoping somebody could take some guesses from the JP release of the append-disc. Since I can't even figure out what exactly that had on it, but whatever the case may be. Monday it is.

It sounds a lot more complicated than it really is.

APPEND DISC: Requires original copy of P3 to boot. Contains Episode Aegis.

P3 w/ FES: Both games on one disc. Has a "director's cut" version of P3 with extra costumes, s-links, and activities. Also contains Episode Aegis in the same form as on the append disc.

This is the way that I understand it at this point. If anyone else can correct me, please do so! :D

Thanks that cleared it up.

C'mon ATLUS, give us this "directors cut". I want to max out Elizabeth too.

you are correct. Also the append disc only needs P3 the first time you play it. The append disc also has the director cut version of P3. I think you can also play the non director's cut but I dont think anyone want to play that. Also the Episode Aegis is separate and doenst use any P3 save data.

Yeha, new social links here I come.

That's good then. I'll have to double check my saves. I think I have one from the end of my first time through. I know I've got another that is about 3/4 of the way through on the second time (trying to pick up those last 4 s-links).

Anyway, if that's the case, then the append disc will work fine for me!

Let me take up on that if Atlus' big announcement turns out to be just a add-on disk for P3

April 22nd wouldn't be too bad of a wait, only one more day for the official announcment, since I'm waiting for FES to play Persona 3 I'm getting a bit impatient.

What I don't get is there were 2 pricing setups for Persona 3 FES werent there? From what your describing both discs have the exact same information on it.

they have the same information, but you cant play append version without a copy of the original Persona 3. which results in append version being cheaper.

thus the supposed $29.99 price tag on FES that Gamestop is offering.

So two of the exact same item, but one requires you to have a completed save from P3.

I guess the discount is sort of a thank you to those that purchased the full game?
wtf, it's time and theres still nothing!!!
Must be based on your PC's time which is a weak way to do it since mine shows it ends at 6AM CST. So I'm going to guess the official time is 6AM PST if that's how it works.

EDIT: Bah, said EST when I ment PST.

Dear Atlus Faithful,

Ok, we give up. The rumors were true.

Persona 3 FES is coming to North America!

Months of trying to keep FES a secret are now behind us (which means all of us here can reflect on just how futile an effort that was).

So what's the big deal about Persona 3 FES? "FES" is short for "Festival," and in Japan, FES was released as a reward for gamers who picked up the original. Not only does the new FES content enhance the original game, but the new FES component is actually a game in and of itself, accessible right from the get-go. We think of it as two games on one disc. It is the definitive Persona 3 experience.

We will be releasing the stand-alone version of FES. There was of course the option of just releasing the "Append" disc (which would have required ownership of the original game), but in the end, we didn't want you to have to own anything else to enjoy the experience.

We'll have a ton more updates going out for FES soon, telling you about the extra features, content, and modes for you to enjoy. Thanks for being patient. We're glad you stuck around.

Oh, and we decided to set the suggested retail for FES at $29.99, just for the heck of it. Thanks for continuing to support us, Atlus Faithful!

But what does that mean...does that mean that I can play through the first persona 3 chapter using the FES disc?

Happy BDAY

Agreed! I can't even get mad that everyone who hasn't played P3 gets it PLUS the extra bonus stuff for only $30. The original was well worth it, this is simply a STEAL.
