The Raven vs. Tommy Dreamer eternal feud wrestling thread

Yeah for that level of a show I thought the crows was just above average, far from great. Slick got absolutely no reaction at all, nobody knew who he was. Bret Hart got a middling reaction which was a complete joke, and there were practically crickets chirping when Dude Love came out. If this show was in Chicago or the North East the differences would've been there. Just my opinion of course but on TV the crowd came off as just "ok".
Whoever mentioned that Billy Gunn seemed totally stoked to be back - I agree with you.
That was me. The dude was all smiles from start to finish and genuinely looked like a kid on Christmas morning. I'm happy for the guy.

I really could have gone without seeing Dude Love and Brodus Clay. Foley looks pretty bad, he should have taken a cue from Austin and kept his distance.

And jesus, that Undertaker picture made me laugh my ass off.

To touch upon what CGarb said:

Recently, someone posted a statistics graphic which shows that WWE has a tendency to hold shows in the Northeast and Pacific West parts of the United States. Call me crazy, but the heartland of wrasslin has always been places like Texas, the Carolinas, Georgia, Chicago, Tennessee, and other bits and pieces of the southern and middle portion of the U.S. If I remember correctly, the graphic said WWE frequents New York and Missouri, which I'd also label as a part of the heartland of wrasslin, but mostly focus on places like Massachusetts, Connecticut, Washington, and California.

Ya know, places that don't really have a heart for pro wrestling. And, if you listen to their crowds, these days, I think it shows. When they visit Charlotte, North Carolina or Chicago, Illinois, I think there's a considerable improvement in enthusiasm than their normal crowds.

Just my two cents, though. I could be wrong.

I kinda feel like Vince McMahon saying this, but CM Punk taking out The Rock + The Rock's ridiculous overselling looked... off.

CM Punk needs to bulk up. The Rock looked like a human specimen - waaaaaay more cut than he was at Wrestlemania.

At least they're honest:

Punk is pretty "normal" which fits his persona. As far as Dwayne looking more buff than a few months ago, I think that may be do to him making a movie recently where he was playing the part of a bodybuilder. I remember seeing a picture of him a few threads ago wearing some loud ass 1980's workout pants
sorry the name for them escapes me at the moment, but I know it is the ones commonly paired with the infamous Ribera jacket
and someone that looked like DJ Jazzy Jeff from the set.

The biggest bit of news that came out of Raw was one that a lot of people missed: the attitude era footage didn't have the scratch logo blurred out. I pointed it out in the chat.. Here's more news regarding it:

- For the past ten years, video content from WWE's "Attitude Era" (1998–2002) has been edited due to a lawsuit with the World Wide Fund for Nature over the WWF initials. All WWF "scratch" logos and references to the initials had to be blurred or edited out. This directive has now changed, at least in part.

In regards to the former "scratch" logo appearing unaltered in video packages on Monday's Raw, multiple sources within the company say use of the symbol in flashback sequences is now permitted, so brief clips no longer have to be blurred. However, it is unclear whether the permission extends to complete matches and other archival footage. One source believes the company wants to develop a strategy to cease the logo blurring before the launch of the WWE Network.

That would make a huge difference in the quality of archival footage.

There *is* an "Attitude Era" video being released by the end of the year. Is it too much to hope that the changes are solely audio in nature?

In other news, good thing someone dropped two hundo on my WM DVD box set last week. I'd be down for an unedited set.

Yeah, kinda. He's too slender and lacks muscle definition. That said, he's put on much more muscle mass since he started in WWE, so I can't discredit that. Not everyone needs to look like Brock Lesnar, but Punk could probably put a bit more creatine in his diet. It's not like any major straight edge bands ever wrote anti-GNC songs.

You guys all sound like Vince now. If Punk can put on great matches without having muscle definition, then I am all for it.

I agree with mitch079 here. Let him play the ring smart guy who doesn't have to be huge to get wins/championships. I like the look he has.
Hate to say it but I'm kinda liking what I'm seeing from WWE 13 here. The attention to sound detail is long overdue. I believe the last one I played was the 2010 game, so I suppose I'm due to give it another shot

Oh My God chant as the substitute for Holy Shit is so ridiculously awkward especially with Holy Crap being right there as the more logical PG-friendly replacement. No crowd has ever made a OMG chant so it feels as forced as a Player Two chant.

Haven't played a WWE game regularly since SvR '08 and WWE '12 left me disappointed. I'll probably take a peek if it drops on Redbox, but I'm keeping my expectations low.

Now I kind of want this just for nostalgia.

To those of you on the fence about the game or who disliked WWE '12. my advice is to sit it out until next gen when things will probably change significantly. That shouldn't be too far away now.

Who wants to draw up the business case so these guys will develop a PC version side by side with the console versions? THQ is usually big on releasing for all platforms and the WWE series has always been a glaring omission to me. The mod potential alone would make me highly consider a day one purchase.
WWE '12 still just doesn't have fun gameplay mechanics.
I didn't play that one but I know the reaction seemed average. It was at least better than the incredibly stale SvR engine, yes?

New audio won't make me buy WWE '13 if I'm on the fence.

I plan on getting it anyway, but it still looks exactly like WWE '12 with a few added tweaks and new moves (basically, the patch they *should* have released).

When is the last time they did that? WWF Raw for the PC, which was also released on Xbox? That might be the only time they've taken the WWF/WWE license to the PC.

They were supposed to release WWE Online a couple of years back, but it ended up getting canceled. I'd love to see a current WWE game on PC, just to see what the modding community could come up with.

I played SVR 11 last. Hated the crowd noise. It got me to thinking they just are going to use the crowd noise they edit in on Smackdown and other taped shows. I got '12 a few weeks ago on clearance at a Sony Store for $10 but haven't opened it yet. I think the commentary still sounds like crap in that video. When they showed Big Show catching CM Punk off the top with the goozle, you could hear Cole's voice in the background. "Big Show!" "Chokeslam." Really?

My only gripes with the WWE games are that the ring announcer still stands there with his or her arms to their side while the introductions are playing, and that they never update the entrance animations so the wrestlers come out of the wrong side of the stage. Or when the announcer is still standing there awkwardly after the last wrestler enters. It bugs me that they put so much detail into other areas but can't fix those little things.

And damn I still want that stage creation mode.

THIS. Make the announcer look like a damn human being and not a cardboard cutout who sounds board as hell when the wrestler's names are announced.

Also: add more referee animations. Have him dive for a three-count, or slowly count after he has been knocked down...or randomly have a second ref run down the ramp to make a count when the original has been knocked out.

One other major gripe is how weird the belts look on some of the wrestlers, mainly bigger guys like Big Show or Mark Henry. Some games make the belt look HUGE so it wraps around their waist. STOP IT. Just drape it over the shoulder like they do on television. Make individual belt animations so they don't look glued on and clipped to hell and back.

I'm sort of excited for WWE '13, but then again, I'm excited for every game. I'm excited for the customization.

I want to believe that the commentary has been fixed, but we'll see. The OMG chant sounds awful. The ring looks nice and springy now. The crowd audio has been a huge problem in the past, so hopefully they'll actually cheer when guys hit their finisher/win. Pin reversals are one of those slap-your-forehead "why didn't we have this before?" inclusions. It's good to see the bridge-reverse-backslide pin again, I don't think that's been in a game since No Mercy.

Now if only we can get the mexican surfboard and the mexican surfboard curbstomp..
He legs look like they belong to a cartoon character. Awful.
I don't follow.

I'd rather see people order the "Summer of Punk" DVD from ROH. fucking astonishing stuff. Punk's WWE career has him masquerading as the underdog, but becoming a company man in no time flat.

His WWE career is as punk as The Offspring ever was.
I think the bigger news here is that ICP is still around.
Naw. It's just really hard to kill cockroaches.

I'm not an ICP music fan, but you gotta give it to the guys, when they book their wrestling shows they pay top dollar for talents and treat them very well.
